The risk of children and young people (CYP) being exposed to and experiencing fraud (诈骗) is considerably growing compared to elderly people as the internet increasingly becomes part of their daily lives. Here’s a report revealing fraud against CYP in 2025 in England and Wales.
Scale of fraud
70% of CYP aged 13-21 were targeted by fraud in the last year. Nearly a third of CYP have been a victim of fraud. Only 1% of CYP have never encountered fraud. Some CYP are more likely to experience fraud victimization, including older CYP (aged 18-21) and CYP with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Methods used by fraudsters
* A message from a stranger asking for your personal details: 30%
* A spam email or other online message with a suspicious link: 24%
* Pop-up window asking you to click on a suspicious link: 24%
* Someone pretending to be your friend or family member: 20%
* A message from a stranger asking for your bank account details or for money: 18%
Action plan
The findings of this report have been used to inform an action plan which sets out how key authorities can help prevent fraud experienced by CYP, minimize its impact and improve their understanding of what fraud is and how it may present.
Actors
Actions
Government, Home Office, DfE
The Home Office/ Department for Education (DfE) should produce a separate strategy meant for CYP.
DfE, child protection experts
Existing networks such as the Joint Fraud Taskforce should include child protection experts and a DfE representative.
Social media companies, banks
Private sector actors are encouraged to tackle fraud against CYP, for example the Online Safety Act should be updated to require social media companies to protect children from fraudulent content.
1. What can we learn about CYP fraud from the scale data?
A. Disabled CYP are free from fraud attacks.
B. Most CYP have never met fraud-related tricks.
C. Almost all CYP have come across fraud matters.
D. Young teens face higher fraud risk than 18-21-year-olds.
2. What do the fraud methods have in common?
A. They involve identity theft. B. They are conducted remotely.
C. They are carried out by friends. D. They lead to investment losses.
3. What are private sectors expected to do to protect CYP?
A. Add experts into existing working groups. B. Draw up independent national safety rules.
C. Update related laws to block fraudulent content. D. Stop young people from using online platforms.

What began as a frightening situation was rapidly solved by the fast thinking of one person. Andrea Fuentes, the head coach of USA Artistic Swimming, is known for her successful career — she won four Olympic medals for Spain as an artistic swimmer herself. But after a dangerous incident in June 2022, she has also been praised as a hero.
During the solo free final at the World Aquatics Championships, Anita Alvarez was performing her routine when things took a turn for the worse. While impressing the judges with her routine, she suddenly lost consciousness(意识) and sank to the bottom of the pool.
Fuentes, her coach, looked for help. “I saw that the lifeguards (救生员) were not jumping into the water because they were shocked. I shouted at them from the other side to get into the water immediately!” Fuentes told a Spanish radio program. Growing increasingly concerned, the coach jumped into the water, fully dressed, to rescue Alvarez when medical assistance arrived. Alvarez was then placed on a stretcher and taken away to receive medical care. The team later posted an update, stating that the swimmer was feeling much better, with normal vital signs, oxygen, and sugar levels. After a careful evaluation, she was considered healthy and went back to the swimming pool.
Almost a year after the incident, the USA Artistic Swimming team announced the athletes who make up the senior national team at the 2023 World Championships and Pan American Games. Not only is Alvarez one of them, but Fuentes remains the head coach. Together, they’ll work to bring home some much-deserved medals and awards. Coach Fuentes states, “I am very excited for this next chapter, and I feel honored as their coach to lead this group of talented swimmers to make Team USA the best team we can be.”
4. Why has Andrea Fuentes been considered a hero?

D. She risked her life to save a stranger.
5. What is paragraph 3 mainly about ?
A. The process of Fuentes’ saving.
B. The procedures of medical assistance.
C. The dangers faced by artistic swimmers.
D. The reason why the lifeguards hesitated.
6. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Alvarez has left the senior national team.
B. Fuentes’ action has earned her more rewards.
C. Alvarez won several medals after the recovery.
D. Alvarez’s life has recently returned to normal.
7. Which can best describe Fuentes as a coach?
A. Caring and ambitious. B. Strict and adventurous.
C. Careful and quick-thinking. D. Humorous and kind-hearted.

Italian cuisine may be one of the most recognized and loved in the world — often imagined as a collection of ancient recipes and local traditions preserved by skillful grandmothers over centuries. But now, a food historian is exposing common myths and false stories, arguing that the Italian cuisine as we know it is barely a few decades old.
Grandi claims in his latest book, Italian Cuisine Doesn’t Exist, the idea that many beloved recipes and products such as cheeses or cured meats have hundreds of years of history is pure fantasy. Most dishes have a shorter history than most people imagine.
Migration is what made Italian cuisine what it is today. In the 19th and 20th Centuries, millions of people left Italy, a poverty-stricken country with limited dietary options, emigrating to South America, North America and European countries. The Italians who landed on New York’s Ellis Island left hunger and misery behind. And it was in the “new world”, Grandi argues, that Italian immigrants found the wealth and ingredients to create the recipes that eventually popularized Italian food worldwide.
However, many Italians are not familiar with this history. They might imagine that their beloved recipes were born in Italy, passed down, unchanged, from generation to generation and eventually exported abroad by Italian migrants.
Pizza is the most famous example of this. Born as a cheap street food in Naples, in the 19th Century it was synonymous with poverty and dirt. It was in America, says Grandi, that pizza became “red”. While fresh tomatoes were among the original toppings, Italian immigrants to the US popularized pizza prepared with tomato sauce, a product that industrialization made easy to access and store. And it was in the US that pizzerias really started to take off. Scholars call this process “the pizza effect”: when a product leaves its place of origin, gets profoundly transformed and then returns to its place of origin to be fully embraced in a completely different form.
8. What does Grandi challenge in his book?
A. The role of Italian chefs. B. The history of Italian cuisine.
C. The recipe for cured meats. D. The process of cheese production.
9. How did Italian immigrants contribute to the spread of Italian cuisine?
A. By running Italian restaurants worldwide.
B. By promoting food industrialization in Italy.
C. By creating new recipes with local ingredients.
D. By preserving ancient recipes through generations.
10. What does the underlined phrase “was synonymous with” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Equaled. B. Removed. C. Caused. D. Exposed.
11. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Migration of Italian Cuisine B. The Origin of the Pizza Effect
C. The Secret of Traditional Recipes D. The Truths Behind Italian Cuisine
B 9. C 10. A 11. D
根据第二段“Grandi claims in his latest book, Italian Cuisine Doesn’t Exist, the idea that many beloved recipes and products such as cheeses or cured meats have hundreds of years of history is pure fantasy. Most dishes have a shorter history than most people imagine.(格兰迪在他的新书《意大利美食并不存在》中声称,许多深受人们喜爱的食谱以及像奶酪或腌肉这类产品拥有数百年历史的这一观点纯属幻想。大多数菜肴的历史比大多数人想象的要短。)”可知,Grandi在他的书中对意大利美食的历史提出了质疑。故选B。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“And it was in the “new world”, Grandi argues, that Italian immigrants found the wealth and ingredients to create the recipes that eventually popularized Italian food worldwide.(格兰迪认为,正是在‘新大陆’,意大利移民获得了财富和食材,从而创造出了那些最终让意大利美食在全世界得以推广的食谱。)”
根据最后一段“Pizza is the most famous example of this. Born as a cheap street food in Naples, in the 19th Century it was synonymous with poverty and dirt.(披萨就是这方面最著名的例子。19 世纪时,披萨诞生于那不勒斯,是一种廉价的街头食品,那时它was synonymous with贫穷与脏乱。)”可知,披萨在19世纪诞生于那不勒斯,是一种廉价的街头食品,结合常识,廉价的街头食品与贫困和肮脏是等同的概念。由此可知,was synonymous with意思是“等同于”,与A选项“Equaled(等同于)”意思一致。故选A。
文章第一段提到“a food historian is exposing common myths and false stories, arguing that the Italian cuisine as we know it is barely a few decades old.(一位食品历史学家正在揭露常见的神话和虚假故事,他认为我们所知道的意大利美食只有几十年的历史。)”
D
As new technologies take on increasingly humanlike qualities, there’s been a push to make them genderless. “People are stereotyping (形成刻板印象) their gendered objects in very traditional ways,” says Ashley Martin, a Stanford associate professor of organizational behavior. Removing gender from the picture altogether seems like a simple way to fix this. Yet as Martin has found in her work, gender is one of the fundamental ways people form connections with objects, particularly those designed with human characteristics.
In her study, Martin asked participants to rate their attachment to male, female, and genderless versions of a digital voice assistant and a self-driving car known as “Miuu.” It was found that gender increased users’ feelings of attachment to these devices and their interest in purchasing them. For example, participants said they would be less likely to buy a genderless voice assistant than versions with male or female voices.
While gendering a product may be good marketing, it may also strengthen outdated or harmful ideas about power and identity. The stereotypes commonly associated with men, such as competitiveness and dominance, are more valued than those associated with women. These qualities, in turn, are mapped onto products that have been assigned a gender.
Martin’s study also found that creating a genderless object was difficult. For instance, if an object’s name was meant to sound genderless, like Miuu, participants would still assign a gender to it — they would assume Miuu was a “he” or “she.”
Martin sees a silver lining, however: She believes that anthropomorphism (拟人化) “provides an opportunity to change stereotypes.” When women are put into positions of leadership like running companies, it reduces negative stereotypes about women. Similarly, anthropomorphized products could be created to take on stereotype-inconsistent roles — a male robot that assists with nursing or a female robot that helps do calculations, for instance.
12. What is the purpose of making new technologies genderless?
A. To reduce stereotypes. B. To meet public demand.
C. To cut production costs. D. To encourage competition.
13. What were the participants probably asked to do in the study?
A. Design a product. B. Respond to a survey.
C. Work as assistants. D. Take a language test.
14. Why is it difficult to create genderless objects?
A. They cannot be mass-produced. B. Naming them is a challenging task.
C. People assume they are unreliable. D. Gender is rooted in people’s mind.
15. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The quality of genderless products. B. The upside of gendering a product.
C. The meaning of anthropomorphism. D. The stereotypes of men and women.
A 13. B 14. D 15. B
根据第一段中“‘People are stereotyping (形成刻板印象) their gendered objects in very traditional ways,’ says Ashley Martin, a Stanford associate professor of organizational behavior. Removing gender from the picture altogether seems like a simple way to fix this. (斯坦福大学组织行为学副教授阿什利·马丁说:“人们以非常传统的方式对有性别的物品形成刻板印象。”完全去除物品的性别似乎是解决这个问题的简单方法)”可知,人们对有性别的物品存在刻板印象,让新技术无性别化的目的是减少这种刻板印象。故选A项。
根据第二段中“In her study, Martin asked participants to rate their attachment to male, female, and genderless versions of a digital voice assistant and a self driving car known as ‘Miuu.’ (在她的研究中,马丁让参与者对数字语音助手和名为‘Miuu’的自动驾驶汽车的男性、女性和无性别版本的喜爱程度进行评分)”可知,参与者被要求对不同版本的产品进行评价,这类似于对调查做出回应。故选B项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Martin’s study also found that creating a genderless object was difficult. For instance, if an object’s name was meant to sound genderless, like Miuu, participants would still assign a gender to it — they would assume Miuu was a ‘he’ or ‘she.’ (马丁的研究还发现,创造无性别对象很困难。例如,如果一个物品的名字听起来是无性别化的,比如Miuu,参与者仍然会给它赋予一个性别——他们会认为Miuu是‘他’或‘她’)”可知,因为性别观念根深蒂固在人们的脑海中,所以即使物品本身试图设计成无性别,人们还是会赋予其性别,这导致创造无性别对象很困难。故选D项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段中“Martin sees a silver lining, however: She believes that anthropomorphism (拟人化) ‘provides an opportunity to change stereotypes.’ (然而,马丁看到了一线希望:她认为拟人化‘提供了改变刻板印象的机会’)”以及后文所举的例子可知,最后一段主要讲了赋予产品性别有积极的一面,即可以通过拟人化改变刻板印象。故选B项。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Multitasking is really bad for how much work you can get done. When we do multiple tasks at once, we keep “switching tasks”. ___16___ Switching between tasks a lot makes you less productive. Even though each switch cost might be small, when we keep changing between tasks over and over, those small costs add up to a lot. Multitasking might seem efficient at first, but in the end, it can take more time and lead to more mistakes. So, how do we start mono-tasking that is doing one task at a time?
Try to work deeply, focusing on one thing. Instead of working in short 15 — 20-minute bursts, set aside 2 to 4 hours each day to work on a single project without any interruptions. Extending focused working time can improve work efficiency as well as work quality. ___17___
Get rid of distractions in your work environment. Mono-tasking is as much about getting rid of distractions as it is about focusing. ___18___ Mark fixed time on your calendar for specific work.
___19___ Schedule your day around peak performance times. Whether it’s early in the morning , right after lunch, or late at night, everyone has times of the day when they’re more productive. Once you identify your peak performance time, guard it!
Focus on what’s important. Try to remember: At the end of our lives, no one will remember how quickly we responded to emails; no one on their deathbed asks for more time to sit through another budget meeting. ___20___ This is the key part of doing one task at a time.
A. Avoiding distraction is of vital importance.
B. Plan deep work for times when you work best.
C. This causes a “switch cost” — the time needed to get used to a new task.
D. Instead, we look for more time to concentrate on the meaningful thing.
E. Frequent task switching can boost productivity a lot.
F. Shut down your phones’ apps or anything else that sends notification.
G. It can also reduce your work stress to some extent.
C 17. G 18. F 19. B 20. D
前文“Multitasking is really bad for how much work you can get done. When we do multiple tasks at once, we keep “switching tasks”. (多任务处理对你能完成多少工作是有害的。当我们同时做多项任务时,我们会不断地“切换任务”)”提到不断切换任务,后文“Switching between tasks a lot makes you less productive. Even though each switch cost might be small, when we keep changing between tasks over and over, those small costs add up to a lot. (频繁地在不同任务之间切换会降低你的效率。尽管每次转换的成本可能很小,但当我们不断地在任务之间切换时,这些小成本加起来就会很大)”说明每次切换都会降低效率,因此C项“This causes a “switch cost” — the time needed to get used to a new task. (这会导致“切换成本”——即适应新任务所需的时间)”符合语境,解释任务切换的具体负面影响,承前启后。故选C。
【17题详解】
前文“Extending focused working time can improve work efficiency as well as work quality. (延长专注的工作时间可以提高工作效率和工作质量)”指出延长专注时间可以提升效率和质量,空处应补充额外益处,因此G项“It can also reduce your work stress to some extent. (这也能在一定程度上降低你的工作压力)”符合语境,补充减轻工作压力的益处,承接前文,其中的It指代前文的Extending focused working time。故选G。
【18题详解】
前文“Mono-tasking is as much about getting rid of distractions as it is about focusing. (单任务处理既要集中注意力,也要避免分心)”建议排除干扰,后文“Mark fixed time on your calendar for specific work. (在日历上为特定的工作标记固定的时间)”给出固定工作时间的具体措施,空处应同样给出排除干扰的具体措施,因此F项“Shut down your phones’ apps or anything else that sends notification. (关闭手机应用或其他发送通知的功能)”符合语境,建议关闭通知以避免干扰,承接前文,和后文行为逻辑连贯。故选F。
【19题详解】
后文“Schedule your day around peak performance times. Whether it’s early in the morning , right after lunch, or late at night, everyone has times of the day when they’re more productive. (把你的一天安排在工作效率最高的时候。无论是清晨、午饭后还是深夜,每个人都有一天中效率最高的时候)”主要讨论个人高效时段,建议在这一时段工作,空处是段落主旨句,应建议在个人高效时段工作,且需和其他段落主旨句一样使用祈使句的形式,因此B项“Plan deep work for times when you work best. (在你效率最高的时段安排深度工作)”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选B。
【20题详解】
前文“Try to remember: At the end of our lives, no one will remember how quickly we responded to emails; no one on their deathbed asks for more time to sit through another budget meeting. (试着记住:在我们生命的尽头,没有人会记得我们回复邮件的速度有多快;没有人在临终前会要求更多的时间来坐着开另一个预算会议)”批判无意义的忙碌,后文“This is the key part of doing one task at a time. (这是一次只做一项任务的关键部分)”强调某件事的关键性,空处应给出做有意义的事的建议,因此D项“Instead, we look for more time to concentrate on the meaningful thing. (相反,我们应争取更多时间专注真正有意义的事)”符合语境,提到应专注真正有意义的事,承前启后,选项内容是后文This指代的对象。故选D。

Beep, beep! The alarm rang one early morning and Sara’s hands reached for the phone to turn it off, sending chills down her spine She had been up all night, practicing math in preparation for the exam. Though she was a bright student who scored well in English, science and other subjects, math had always remained a struggle for her.
“I’ve learned everything, but my mind just can’t get it. It’s like I’ve forgotten everything,” she cried. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and she got butterflies in her stomach. Just then, there was a knock on the door.
“Breakfast is ready. Come, darling,” called her mother. Sara quickly dried her eyes and rushed to the bathroom. “OK, Mum, I’ll be there in five minutes,” she said.
“Sara, bring your sandwich in the car and finish it on the way. Hurry up!” her mother said.
Sara responded, holding her sandwich but not taking any bites. All she could think was, “Why does math even exist? Why can’t we choose whether or not to study it? My overall scores will drop again because of poor math scores.” When they arrived at school, Sara made her way to the examination hall with a heavy heart. A teacher handed out the test papers.
As Sara looked at her paper, a wave of anxiety hit her. The math problems seemed to dance before her eyes. She held her pen tightly and swallowed (咽口水) hard, realizing that there wasn’t a single question she could solve. Her mind went blank, and she dropped her pen, resting her head on the table.
Noticing her uneasiness (不安), the teacher asked if she was feeling well. Sara didn’t respond, so the teacher took her to the office and called her class teacher Miss Mona, a kind and welcoming lady. Feeling comfortable with Miss Mona, Sara opened up about her dislike of math. She explained that while she tried hard to understand the problems, she struggled to keep up with the rest of the class, which made her feel slow and hesitant to do math.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

By the end of the year, Sara finally got an A in math.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Miss Mona advised Sara to keep at math. She told Sara that she didn’t like math because she had found it difficult, while it was just a subject that needed a little more attention. Miss Mona stressed that avoiding math wasn’t a choice and that getting past her weakness was important. She advised Sara to attend extra math classes and practice as much as she could at home. Understanding Miss Mona’s advice, Sara made up her mind to work harder on math, turning her once-feared weakness into a daily challenge she was determined to beat.
By the end of the year, Sara finally got an A in math. She earned the second-highest mark in math on the final exam. Overjoyed, she rushed to thank Miss Mona, whose guidance had helped her deal with her fears. This journey taught her a powerful lesson: facing fears head-on, rather than avoiding them, unlocks true growth. Through challenges, we build toughness, confidence, and strength. Therefore, be a brave fighter and face your fears.

A. She won four Olympic medals.
B. She reacted rapidly to the incident.
C. She was head coach of a USA team.

While neighboring concrete buildings ____40____ (destroy), structures where Sunmao was used remained standing and intact. These “ancient puzzles” create flexible connections ____41____ absorb shockwaves and create strong, shifting frames. These wooden parts act as natural shock absorbers, providing a safe shelter ____42____ urban residents when an earthquake strikes.
In an effort to protect modern cities, some global teams are now working ____43____ (introduce) Sunmao to regions that suffer from earthquakes easily.
