His mom put a hand on his shoulder and said, “I understand your fear, son. But think about it — is keeping Pip in a box an act of love? Or is the love about letting it go?” Leo looked at Pip, who was pecking at the window sometimes, and for the first time, he saw not a pet in a cage, but a creature gazing longingly at its true home—the vast sky. Leo took a deep breath and nodded. He put Pip in the box, and then took it to the park together with his mom. Under the same tree where Pip had been found, Leo gently opened his hands. Pip hesitated for a moment, and then flew up to a low branch. It turned back, chirped softly as if saying thank you, and then flew higher and farther until it disappeared into the blue sky. Though a little sad, Leo felt peaceful in his heart. He realized that every life, no matter how small, deserves freedom and respect. True kindness means caring without holding on. 上:put a hand on/rest a hand on ②深呼吸:take a deep breath/breathe deeply ③消失:disappear/vanish 情绪类 ①恐惧:fear/anxiety ②悲伤:sad/sorrowful 【点睛】【高分句型1】Leo looked at Pip, who was pecking at the window sometimes, and for the first time, he saw not a pet in a cage, but a creature gazing longingly at its true home—the vast sky.(运用了who引导的非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】He realized that every life, no matter how small, deserves freedom and respect.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 附:听力原文: 1. 【原文】W: When does the train arrive from New York? Though the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 0.83 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight a day for healthy adults to maintain muscle and tissue health, more protein can also help you lose weight. Protein takes more energy to digest and makes you feel fuller for longer. To build muscle mass, the International Society of Sports Nutrition has recommended a daily protein intake of between 1.4 g/kg and 2 g/kg, combined with resistance training. In places where food is plentiful, measuring your protein by the gram may not be worth it, because a regular diet is enough. Where should the protein come from? Taking in protein as a drink is easier than absorbing it on a steak. A study found that drinking protein made from milk is especially good for exercising adults. Yet advocates of a traditional balanced diet argue that because alternative sources of protein often contain too many sugars and other additives, they are less healthy than food-based protein. So, if you want to take in protein, which way do you prefer? 17.~20. 【原文】W: I’m really worried about Trevor. He broke down crying yesterday. He told me he wanted to drop out of school. M: Really? Do you think that is because his teacher blamed him for something he hadn’t done. W: I think so. He was never like this before. M: But we’ve already called Mrs Jones and she apologized to him. What else can we do to make him feel better? W: I’m not sure. I thought about taking him to see a doctor. I can call around and see if there is a good one nearby. M: I’m afraid he won’t be open to it. This idea won’t work. W: I think I can talk him into it. M: Just don’t try too hard because you’ll push him away. How about getting some of his friends to invite him out to eat at a restaurant? W: That sounds like something that might work. I’ll ask his friend Ben to call him this weekend and try to make some plans. W: Okay. 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。When does the train arrive from new york? B Before giving my first official lecture at university, I stood helplessly outside the lecture hall, failing to open the classroom door. Just at that time, a cleaner walked by and noticed my awkwardness. She comforted me patiently, telling me that the professor would come soon to get everything ready. I had to explain that I was exactly the professor the students inside were waiting for. Such identity misunderstandings have happened countless times since I started my teaching job. As a young female professor, I look far younger than my real age. Most people hold a fixed stereotype (刻板印象) that professors should be middle-aged and serious-looking. Therefore, I am often wrongly considered to be a college student or a young research assistant both on and off campus. For a long time, these repeated misunderstandings brought me huge self-doubt. I kept questioning whether I was qualified (合格的) for my job and whether I truly belonged to the academic community. Slowly, I was filled with endless anxiety until one day, when a student sent me a heartfelt note, saying my lectures broadened his educational views. This heartfelt message pulled me out and made me see things differently. Since then, I’ve changed my attitude. In the past, I tried dressing formally to look more mature (成熟的), but it never worked. Now I’ve just stopped caring about others’ judgments and put all my energy into teaching and scientific research. I carefully design every lecture and give patient guidance to every student. My professional capability and sincere efforts win wide recognition from my workmates and students. I have fully accepted myself. Appearance can never represent one’s ability or identity. I no longer need others’ positive comments to confirm my value. No matter what I look like, I know clearly that I belong here, and I am proud of being a qualified university professor. 24.Why does the author mention the cleaner? A.To explain her solution to a trouble. B.To share the wisdom of ordinary people. C.To stress the importance of campus staff. D.To show her awkwardness at the first lecture. 25.What inspired the author to change her attitude? A.Her coworker’s praise. B.Her scientific breakthrough. C.Her competitive nature. D.Her student’s appreciation. 26.How does the author manage to change others’ impression of her? A.By getting more qualifications. B.By communicating with others. C.By improving her teaching skills. D.By dressing herself more formally. 27.What message does the text deliver? A.Stereotypes are hard to break down. B.Kind words brighten one’s day easily. C.Ability matters more than appearance. D.Teachers often face misunderstandings. C Recently, a video of four snow leopards climbing snowy cliffs (峭壁) in northern Pakistan made environmentalists very excited. Snow leopards are one kind of animals that are hard to find in the wild. Seeing just one on camera is difficult, let alone four at a time. This sighting is seen as a big win for Pakistan’s efforts to protect wildlife. Sakhawat Ali, a park worker who loves taking photos, filmed the snow leopards. He spent two weeks following their footprints in the Central Karakoram National Park, which is always covered in snow. It turned out that the four snow leopards were a mother and her three babies. Ali said that while people in his village often saw snow leopards, no one had ever seen four together before. He first saw the mother leopard. Then, he noticed more pawprints around. Later, from the roof of his house, he used binoculars (双筒望远镜) to look at a nearby cliff and was lucky enough to see all four leopards together. He quickly got his camera and filmed them from about 200 meters away. People in Ali’s village were happy about the sighting. However, they were also a bit worried that the leopards might attack their farm animals. Snow leopards are considered “vulnerable”, which means they are at risk of becoming endangered. They only live in high-altitude (海拔) mountains in the Himalayas, so they are seldom seen. The World Wildlife Fund in Pakistan said the sighting is a good sign, but snow leopards are still in danger. Snow leopards face many threats, like losing their homes and not having enough food. According to the United Nations, human activities and more livestock are harming the land where snow leopards live. This makes it harder for them to find food. Other problems include people hunting them illegally, new building projects destroying their habitats, and climate change making the situation worse. Given the terrible situation, it’s necessary that local communities work together to protect these amazing animals. Only in this way will future generations be able to see snow leopards in the wild. 28.Why did the sighting of four snow leopards excite environmentalists? A.It was a signal that the local climate was improving. B.It was unusual that snow leopards appeared in a group. C.It proved that snow leopards were no longer endangered. D.It indicated that snow leopards could adapt to new habitats. 29.How did Sakhawat Ali manage to film the snow leopards? A.By asking his neighbors for help. B.By tracking and observing them carefully. C.By waiting patiently near the cliff for long. D.By using advanced technology to search the mountains. 30.What is the villagers’ attitude towards the sighting? A.Mixed. B.Proud. C.Doubtful. D.Uncaring. 31.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph? A.To describe the challenges for animals. B.To show human activities’ influence on wildlife. C.To call for collective efforts to protect snow leopards. D.To tell about the great adaptability of snow leopards. D It is often difficult for farmers to recognize diseases quickly enough to protect their crops. Now, some farmers are using a simple device (装置) directly in the field to find viruses (病毒) before they spread. In Tanzania, farmers struggle to recognize diseases in an urgent effort to avoid great crop damage. This process is often not easy when farmers are acting on their own. If they do not know what is attacking their crops, they cannot decide the best way to fight the disease. A device from British technology company Oxford Nanopore is changing that. The device takes out DNA from plants and helps farmers recognize what is harming their crops so that they can change to the improved crops. Laura Boykin worked with the University of Western Australia and brought the device to a Tanzanian farm-owned by Asha Mohamed. The testing recognized a number of viruses in the cassava fields near Mohamed’s farm. “So what would have normally taken six months has just happend in a couple of hours. And that’s possible because of amazing technology, which can give farmers results real-time.” Once the viruses were recognized, Asha Mohamed was given two kinds of seeds that are resistant to the diseases. In another case, DNA was collected from a pawpaw tree farm in Kenya. With that test, the technology was able to recognize the diseases affecting Naomi Mumo’s crops. Laura Boykin says she returned to Mohamed’s farm nine months later. “After nine months of her growing the improved crops, we harvested her plants and she saw large rise in the total amount of crops. Here’s how to improve it. Take small steps. 36 To begin with, pick one little thing you can do to make a change. For example, if your challenge is an untidy room, collect empty glasses and plates and put them in the dishwasher. Your room probably looks a little better already! Next, pick up clothing that’s been gathering (堆积) on a chair and hang it up. Break it down. You can probably do anything if it’s just for 20 minutes. 37 Take a break for 10 minutes, and then set the timer again for 15 more minutes to work on your goal. 38 If you have to finish a task that you’re not excited about, make it more enjoyable by mixing it with something you do like. For example, play music or an audiobook (有声书) while you sweep leaves. You could also call a friend to clean out your disorganized backpacks together. Personalize your organization. The best organizing system is the one that suits you. You may find writing daily checklists in a notebook easier than using lots of sticky notes. 39 Be kind to yourself. Learning execution skills needs practice. When you forget or lose something, be as kind to yourself as to a friend who makes a mistake. 40 It may feel silly at first, but repeat sentences like, “You’re doing the best you can, and that’s enough.” A.Set a timer and go. B.Mix tasks with something fun. C.A small study shows self-kindness reduces stress. D.It’s important to finish all tasks at once to save time. E.Some people prefer using phone apps to record their daily tasks. F.Many people find it easy to make plans but hard to stick to them till the end.
