语言输入:教材引导学生关注体育报道的词汇(final / opponent / score / free throw / break the record)、描写瞬间的动词(dash / leap / cheer / shake hands),以及被动语态在报道中的使用(was held / was awarded),并提示引语能让报道更真实。

The Runner Who Stopped
In a regional 3,000-metre race last year, a runner from another school fell at the final bend.
The girl in second place stopped, helped her up, and waited until she could stand. They finished together, last and second-last, while the crowd stood up and clapped. The judges later gave both of them a special award.
She lost a medal that day and won something rarer: the respect of everyone on the track. She taught a whole stadium what sport is for.

One Point, One Lesson
Our school basketball team played the city final on Saturday and lost 58–59 in the last ten seconds.
We led for most of the game. With thirty seconds left, our captain missed two free throws, and the other team scored on a fast break. Our coach called a timeout, but there was no time left to answer.
After the game the captain shook hands with every opponent. “We lost a game,” he said, “not our manners.”

Why We Need to Lose
Hello, everyone. Our school celebrates winners with medals and photographs. I want to say a word for the rest of us.
I have lost more races than I have won. Losing taught me to check my shoelaces, to pace myself, and to congratulate people I envied. I also learned that someone will always be faster. Winning taught me very little, because I already wanted to win.
So let's cheer for effort, not only for results. Thank you!

Dear David,
You asked which sport to choose. I would choose one you can do for years, not one you can win at once.
Try three: running, swimming and badminton. Do each twice, then pick the one that makes you forget your phone. For training, keep it simple—three times a week, thirty minutes, same time each day. Rest is part of the plan.
Tell me which one you choose, and I'll keep a record with you. Start next Monday.
Yours,
Li Hua
