第一节
Dumpling is a traditional Chinese food. On the lunar New Year’s day, most families make a lot of delicious dumplings. It’s an easy process to make them. The first step is to mix the flour with water and make wrappers. When the wrappers are done, it’s time to prepare the filling. Usually we use meat and some vegetables for filling. When all these preparations are done, we can start making dumplings. First put a spoonful of filling in the center of the wrapper. Then stick the two opposite sides together and then the rest. The smell can make your mouth water.
第二节 (满分25分)
I got ready so quickly that morning that I thought I must have beaten a world record. In five minutes I had my trousers and T-shirt pulled on, and hurriedly emptied my piggy bank. With all the money I saved carefully put in my pocket, I rushed to meet my smiling Mum at the front gate. We went to stands of fresh fruits and vegetables, selecting some for making pizza. Proudly looking at the products, Mum and I drove back home in high spirits. I could picture the perfect pizza which my mother was expert in cooking and the new boy's amazed face.
We gathered on the grass on Sunday morning and I saw the Italian boy immediately. I waved my hand to draw Mike’s attention. He looked around and finally made sure that he was my target. Shy and quiet, he approached me with a light-hearted pace. I patted the place beside me, gestured him to sit down and unpacked his native food. He hesitated at first but later focused his eyes on my sincere face and gave me a broad smile. What a beautiful day it was! We enjoyed the delicious pizza together and came to understand each other by sharing different experiences. No one would resist the sincere kindness.

Living a healthy lifestyle lies in forming the right eating habits. Here are some of the good habits you. can develop when it comes to healthy eating.
Drink plenty of water. You must drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. You may need even more water if you are in a hot environment or if you are exercising.
Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A recent study has shown that those who eat breakfast will consume an average of 100 calories less during the day than their colleagues who skipped breakfast. They will also be able to concentrate better.
Don’t skip lunch. If you do so, your blood sugar level will drop and your metabolism (新陈代谢) will slow down. When you get home, you are starving and eat everything you can find.

Eat your fruit and vegetables. We should eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Take a piece of fruit for a snack, add some banana and raisins to your favourite breakfast cereal, have a salad with lunch, and eat at least one vegetable at dinner each night.
Do not eat your dinner too late. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8 hours. On May 10, 2026, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced a new rule on takeout food safety. According to the rule, from June 1, 2026, every takeout meal must be sealed with a special one-time seal before it leaves the restaurant. This seal is designed to be tamper-evident — once it is opened, it cannot be put back as before. The purpose of the rule is to protect food during delivery and give consumers more confidence.
The rule clearly states that simple sealing methods like staples or ordinary tape are not allowed. Delivery workers cannot open the seal during transport. When consumers receive their takeout, they have the right to check the seal carefully. If the seal is broken, damaged, or missing, consumers can refuse to accept the meal right away. The rule also sets punishments for businesses that do not follow it. First, they will be ordered to correct the problem. If they refuse to correct or the violation is serious, they may face a fine of 10,000 to 100,000 yuan.
Many consumers welcome this regulation. “I often worry about whether my food has been touched during delivery,” said a college student in Beijing. “Now with the seal, I will feel much safer.” Some takeout platforms have already started training restaurants to use the new seals. This is the first time that China has made takeout seals mandatory nationwide. Experts believe it will greatly improve food safety in the delivery industry.
24.When will the new takeout seal rule come into effect?
A.On May 10, 2026
B.On June 1, 2026
C.On May 16, 2026
D.On April 5, 2026
25.What kind of sealing method is allowed according to the new rule?
A.A disposable tamper-evident seal
B.A staple

D.A simple knot
26.What can consumers do if the seal on their takeout is broken?
A.They can still accept the meal.
B.They can ask for a discount.
C.They can refuse to accept the meal.
D.They can open the seal themselves.
27.What is the maximum fine for a business that seriously violates the rule?
A.1,000 yuan
B.5,000 yuan
C.10,000 yuan
D.100,000 yuan

From this week, the UK has introduced strict rules to protect children from junk food advertising. Ads for 13 categories of processed foods and drinks, such as sugary soft drinks, crisps, and chocolates, are banned online and can only air on TV after 9 pm.
The reason is rising childhood obesity (肥胖). Our exclusive report last week highlighted doctors’ calls for routine blood pressure testing in children, emphasizing the dangers of obesity and the case for preventing it. The longer-term trend, both nationally and internationally, is widely recognised as alarming. Since the UK’s child measurement programme began 20 years ago, obesity rates among primary-age children in England have climbed from 17.5% to 22.1%.
Obesity deepens social inequality, with rates in poverty-stricken areas twice as likely to be obese as those in wealthy ones. The resulting health risks — type 2 diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases — add to the hardships of the disadvantaged. This concentration of harm is a key reason to welcome the advertising restrictions. Like gambling or smoking, the uneven impact of unhealthy processed foods on already-struggling households is among their most damaging effects
Children often lack the knowledge and maturity to navigate decisions about fat, sugar, and salt intake. For the UK government, narrowing the gaps that restrict the life chances of disadvantaged children must always be a priority.
Public debate on obesity has increasingly focused on new weight-loss drugs, yet in the UK, these are available only to a small group of severely obese children. This highlights the need to prioritize prevention and public health initiatives around food, as a healthy lifestyle involves exercise and nutrition, not just body weight.
Charities like Sustain have criticized the concessions (让步) made to industry giants, such as allowing brand advertising as long as specific junk foods are not displayed. Their caution is justified: last year saw record snack food sales, and billboard advertising — less controlled by rules — has rocketed. But while the new rules will not end childhood obesity and should have been in place sooner, as with other half measures. they are much better than none at all.
28.What is the main purpose of the new UK rules?
A.To shelter children from obesity risks. B.To encourage people to break bad habits.
C.To limit junk food sales to evenings. D.To enforce blood pressure testing in schools.
29.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Rising childhood obesity is under control internationally.
B.Doctors advise regular blood pressure checks for kids.
C.Fewer primary students suffer from obesity in England.
D.The new rules are mainly meant to cut TV programme time.
30.Why does the author mention gambling and smoking in paragraph 3?
A.To explain the causes of poverty. B.To show they are addictive.
C.To stress junk foods’ harm to the poor. D.To list common bad habits for children.
31.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Childhood Obesity: The Growing Crisis B.Health Inequality: The Widening Divide
C.Stricter Regulations: The Call for Action D.Tackling Obesity: UK’s New Ad Rules
D
Tearing up, sweating, nose running and other bodily functions are all signs when you’re eating spicy foods. Yet, millions of people worldwide actively seek out this burning feeling. The explanation lies not in our sense of taste, but in our complex nervous system and psychology.
The heat we perceive from chili peppers originates from capsaicin (辣椒素), a compound that acts as the plant’s chemical defense. It specifically targets TRPV1, a receptor (受体) present on nociceptors — the special nerve cells that detect potentially harmful factors, such as heat above 42℃. When activated, these cells trigger an instant alarm response, causing the body to react as if it’s been burned. This begs the question: why would we enjoy a feeling signaling potential danger?
The enjoyment of spicy food is learned through adaptation of the neural system. Initially, the brain misinterprets the capsaicin-caused heat as a potential threat, triggering an alarm-like response. Through repeated exposure, however, it receives consistent feedback indicating no actual tissue damage occurs. The feeling is gradually reassessed as non-threatening and manageable, transforming the initial pain into a form of “benign masochism”. Much like the thrill of a roller coaster side, the perceived danger — now under our command — becomes an internal part of the pleasure.
Individual tolerance varies. Genetics can influence how sensitive one’s TRPV1 receptors are to capsaicin. More importantly, people can gradually build up a tolerance, essentially training their bodies and brains to handle higher levels of spiciness. The receptors themselves become less responsive over time, and the brain’s predictive system becomes more accurate.
32.Why does eating chili peppers give people the burning feeling?
A.Capsaicin briefly hurts taste buds. B.Chilli peppers bring potential danger.
C.Capsaicin triggers the reaction of TRPV1. D.Chilli peppers raise the body’s temperature.
33.Which experience is most similar to enjoying spicy food?
A.Listening to music. B.Smoking cigarettes.
C.Exploring the wilderness. D.Watching a horror film.
34.What does building a high spice tolerance involve?
A.Conscious efforts. B.Genetic adaptation.
C.Blocking spiciness signals. D.Keeping receptors from responding.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Capsaicin’s Trick: A False Burning Alarm B.The Spice Lover’s Dilemma: Pleasure in Pain
C.The Body’s Signal: Physical Reactions to Spice D.The Art of Endurance: Building Spice Tolerance
第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Dieting is often doomed to failure. 36 No carbs (碳水食物) after 6 PM? No problem — until we’re out for dinner, on our second glass of wine and reaching for the bread basket. Everyone has a flash point that makes it hard to say no, but eventually, resisting temptation (抵御诱惑) is the key to successful weight loss.
Now research from leading psychologists has spotted the parts of the brain involved in resisting temptation, and how we can use them to stop reaching for chocolate cake. Leading the charge is Professor Walter Mischel, whose research has given the answer. 37 Our mind has two systems: one is cool, slow and allows for self-control, goal-setting and willpower — the “no” system. The other is hot, emotional and present from birth — the “go” system.
So when you see a chocolate cake, the “hot” part of your brain reacts to thoughts of the delicious taste, and the sugar rush you have learned that a slice will give you. Instead of giving in, what you need to do is to activate the “cool” part of your brain by thinking about your goals and practicing far-sightedness. Imagine the sense of satisfaction you’d get, from fitting into your favorite dress in a couple of weeks’ time, for example. 38
Stress is another issue. 39 The first thing to do is to be aware of how stress changes your behavior. Then develop an action plan to deal with it. This might involve taking healthy snacks to work or finding ways to cope better with your time and emotions.
40 If you habitually eat chocolate, for instance, then every time you see it, you remember the high. So the research is clear: if you want to be slim, fit and healthy, it’s time to take control of your mind.
A.But the following tips can be of some help.
B.The problem is, we don’t follow the rules we learn.
C.Brain scans have also shown memory’s significant role in overeating.
D.To resist temptation, our brain has to shift from the “hot” to the “cool”.
E.It’s a simple strategy, but experiments have shown it is highly effective.
F.The sight of the mouth-watering food will also set off the bomb in your brain.
G.It has been shown to switch on the hot part of the brain and cause us to overeat.

The school picnic day was on Sunday, and on Saturday morning I decided to ask Mum some questions. As soon as Mum took the last bite of her toast, I decided I couldn’t wait for her any longer and asked, “Mum, where is Italy?”
My mum pushed up her glasses and looked at me with her head to one side. Then she said, “Italy is an European country which is very far away from here, my love. Why do you want to know that?” I shrugged (耸肩), “That’s where Mike, the new boy in our class is from.”
She nodded and invited me to go to fetch the geography book. The book was big and Mum always kept the very big books on the bottom shelf of our bookcase. I watched as Mum flipped to the index and then to a page near the middle. “Here we go,” she said, turning the map around to show me. I let my finger meet hers where it said the word “Italy” in capital letters. According to the introduction to the country on the page, Mum helped me know more about the country.
“You know, Mum, Mike’s parents are extremely busy working in the downtown. He seldom eats regularly let alone (更不用说) have his native foods. I really want him to be very happy for his first picnic with us…” I paused and observed Mum, worried that Mum would think that it was silly and maybe a waste of money buying food only to give it away. But she didn’t. Instead, she said, “I think that’s a brilliant idea! Go and get ready, and we’ll head out on a big shopping.”

We all need to snack from time to time, but please choose your snacks carefully. In fact, it’s a good idea to eat two healthy snacks besides your three main meals. Choose healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables, low fat yogurt, cottage cheese with apple sauce, and so on.

【答案】32.C 33.D 34.A 35.B
【导语】本文解释人们喜爱辣食的原因:辣椒素刺激神经产生灼烧感,经反复接触,大脑将其判定为可控刺激,转化为快感。
【详解】32.细节理解题。根据第二段“The heat we perceive from chili peppers originates from capsaicin (辣椒素), a compound that acts as the plant’s chemical defense. It specifically targets TRPV1, a receptor (受体) present on nociceptors—the special nerve cells that detect potentially harmful factors, such as heat above 42℃.(我们从辣椒中感受到的热感源自辣椒素,这是一种植物的化学防御物质。它专门作用于TRPV1受体,该受体存在于伤害感受器(能够感知潜在有害因素,如超过42℃的高温)上)”可知,吃辣椒会让人们产生灼烧感是因为辣椒素会触发TRPV1受体的反应。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段“The feeling is gradually reassessed as non-threatening and manageable, transforming the initial pain into a form of “benign masochism”. Much like the thrill of a roller coaster side, the perceived danger — now under our command — becomes an internal part of the pleasure.(这种感觉逐渐被重新评估为安全且可控的,从而将最初的痛苦转化为一种“良性受虐狂”的体验。就像乘坐过山车时的刺激感一样,我们所感知到的危险——如今已处于我们的掌控之中——成为了愉悦的一部分)”可知,享受辣食的快感属于“良性受虐”——明知没有实际伤害,却因可控的“危险感”获得刺激,和看恐怖片的体验逻辑一致(恐惧但安全)。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段“Individual tolerance varies. Genetics can influence how sensitive one’s TRPV1 receptors are to capsaicin. More importantly, people can gradually build up a tolerance, essentially training their bodies and brains to handle higher levels of spiciness. The receptors themselves become less responsive over time, and the brain’s predictive system becomes more accurate.(个体的耐受性各不相同。基因会影响一个人的 TRPV1 受体对辣椒素的敏感程度。更重要的是,人们可以逐渐形成耐受性,即通过训练让身体和大脑能够更好地应对更高的辣度。随着时间的推移,这些受体本身的反应会减弱,而大脑的预测系统也会变得更加准确)”可知,增强对辛辣食物的耐受能力需要积极主动的努力。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Tearing up, sweating, nose running and other bodily functions are all signs when you’re eating spicy foods. Yet, millions of people worldwide actively seek out this burning feeling. The explanation lies not in our sense of taste, but in our complex nervous system and psychology.(吃辛辣食物时,会出现流泪、出汗、流鼻涕等生理反应。

【答案】 Dumpling is a traditional Chinese food. 阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】I got ready so quickly that morning that I thought I must have beaten a world record.
