B The Seventy-Year-Old Student
Grandma Wang is seventy years old, but she has become a student again. Every morning, she sits at a small table by the window and studies.
Three years ago, Grandma Wang could not read bus signs. Once she took a wrong bus and got home two hours late. That day, she decided to learn to read. She started from the ABCs. Her granddaughter, a middle school student, taught her after dinner.
Learning was not easy. Some words she forgot the next day. But she never gave up. She wrote new words on cards and put them on the fridge. Every time she opened the fridge, she read them again and again.
Now Grandma Wang can read newspapers, write shopping lists and even send voice messages to her granddaughter. Last month, she won a prize at a city competition for old learners. When reporters asked her secret, she smiled and said: it's never too late to learn.
59. Why did Grandma Wang decide to learn to read?
A. Because she once took a wrong bus. B. Because she wanted to win a prize.
C. Because her granddaughter asked her to. D. Because she felt bored at home.
60. Who taught Grandma Wang to read?
A. Her granddaughter. B. A school teacher. C. A reporter. D. Nobody else.
61. How did Grandma Wang remember new words?
A. She wrote them on cards on the fridge. B. She listened to the radio.

62. What is the best title for the passage?
A. It's Never Too Late to Learn B. How to Take a Bus
C. A Newspaper Competition D. A Small Table by the Window
C Thinking with Machines
Imagine controlling a computer with just your thoughts. This is not a scene from a film any more — it is real science today.
A brain-computer interface, or BCI, is a small machine that reads signals from the brain. When a person thinks about moving, the brain sends out tiny electrical signals. The machine catches these signals and turns them into commands. In this way, a paralysed person can use a computer, a wheelchair or even a robot arm only by thinking.
Scientists have tested BCI with disabled patients. In one test, a man could write on a screen just by imagining writing. He typed faster and faster as he practised.
However, BCI is still far from perfect. The machines are expensive, and they need months of training. Sometimes the signals are not clear enough, and the machine makes mistakes. Scientists are working hard to make BCI smaller and cheaper. They hope that one day BCI will help more people live easier lives.
63. What is a BCI according to the passage?
A. A machine that reads brain signals. B. A new computer game.
C. A robot that cooks meals. D. A kind of wheelchair.
64. How can a paralysed person use a robot arm with BCI?
A. By just thinking about moving. B. By pressing a button.
C. By speaking loudly. D. By using the hands.
65. What could the man do in the test?
A. Write on a screen by imagining writing. B. Walk again like before.
C. Drive a small car. D. Fly a model plane.
66. What is still a problem with BCI?
A. It is expensive and needs long training. B. It cannot read any signals.
C. It is too small to use. D. It helps nobody.
D Sleep Fixes Your Memories
Does sleep help you remember? A new study says a good night's sleep does more than rest your body — it fixes your memories.
Researchers asked two groups of students to learn the same list of words. One group learnt the words in the morning and was tested twelve hours later. The other group learnt them in the evening and slept before the test. The evening group remembered about twenty percent more words.
Why is sleep so important for memory? Scientists explain that while we sleep, our brain reviews what we have learnt and moves important information from short-term memory to long-term memory. It is like a librarian putting books in the right places.
The study gives students a useful message: do not stay up late to study. A tired brain cannot remember well. Review before bed, sleep well, and the knowledge will stay with you. The researchers also advise schools to give students more time to rest.
67. What did the study find?
A. Sleep helps fix memories. B. Morning study is always better.
C. Words are easy to remember. D. Tests are too difficult.
68. How many more words did the evening group remember?
A. About twenty percent more. B. About two percent more.
C. About fifty percent more. D. The same number.
69. What does the brain do while we sleep?
A. It moves important information to long-term memory. B. It stops working completely.
C. It only dreams. D. It grows bigger.
70. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Sleep and Memory B. How to Learn Words C. Tired Students D. A Night at School
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
When you have a lot to review, should you study late at night or get up early in the morning? Students often argue about this.
Many top students choose to review before going to bed. Their idea is simple: after evening review, you go straight to sleep. Research shows that sleep helps the brain store what you have learnt. So the things you read at night may stay in your memory longer.
However, early-morning reviewers have their own reasons. They say a fresh brain works best in the morning. After a good night's sleep, you can understand difficult lessons more quickly. Noise is also less in the early hours.
Which is better? Scientists say it depends on the person. Some people are night owls, while others are early birds. The most important thing is to keep a regular plan and not to give up sleep for study. You can also try both ways for a week and see which one works better for you. Find your own best time, and review will become much easier.

短文1:
Yesterday, a famous memory researcher gave us a lecture on how to remember better. First, he said our memory works like a muscle: the more we use it, the stronger it becomes. Second, he advised us to review new knowledge within one day, because we forget most quickly in the first twenty-four hours. Third, he suggested we remember new things by connecting them to what we already know. For example, if we learn a new word, we can link it to a word we know. At the end, he told us that a good sleep is also important, because the brain stores memories while we sleep.

第21小题:Why is good sleep important for memory?
短文2:
Last week, our class went on a study tour to the City Science Park. We left school at eight in the morning and arrived there in an hour. First, we visited a robot show. The robots could dance, play chess and even answer questions. Then, we did a small experiment: we made a simple volcano with baking soda and vinegar. It was great fun! In the afternoon, a guide told us how scientists work in real life. Before we left, we wrote down three things we had learnt. On the bus back, everyone was tired but excited. This study tour taught me that science is not just in books — it is all around us.
第22小题:How did the students go to the Science Park?

第25小题:What did the students learn from the study tour?

October 15th, Monday Fine
Today, our class had a memory challenge. Our teacher showed us twenty new words for one minute, and then we wrote down as many as we could remember.
At first, I was nervous. Then I used the picture method and pictured each word in my mind. To my joy, I remembered eighteen of the twenty words.
From this challenge, I have learnt that memory is a skill, not a gift. With a good method, we can remember much more than we think.
