D. An official website. B I was 14 when I first met Mrs. Korthaus, an English teacher at our rural high school. Her energy and confidence filled every corner of the classroom. More importantly, she created a safe space where we could make mistakes and discover through trial and error who we wanted to become. Growing up in a small industrial town, I feared success and imagined staying right where I was forever. Mrs. Korthaus helped me see the potential in myself, turning literature into a window to the outside world. More than 25 years later, as an established writer, I took an urgent offer to teach an introductory English course at a local community college. Most of my 40 students were training for manufacturing or healthcare jobs, often working long hours. For them, literature was hardly a natural passion. Remembering Mrs. Korthaus, I avoided adding unnecessary pressure. Instead of demanding attention, I focused on earning their trust, listening to their struggles, and making each lesson practical. Through their homework, my students gradually shared their real lives. One quiet young man surprised us with an insightful discussion on a complex fantasy novel. A devoted husband took careful notes home to his sick wife. A working mother grieving the loss of her son never missed a single class even during winter snowstorms. With patience and understanding, I watched them embrace writing not just as a task, but as a bridge for connection. At the end of the term, my student evaluations arrived. While a few noted my occasional late arrivals after a long commute, one statement received the highest score across the board: I feel that this instructor cares about me. Standing in that classroom, I finally understood what Mrs. Korthaus had lived by decades earlier: a teacher’s true success lies not merely in delivering textbooks, but in helping students believe they are seen, valued, and capable of growth. 24. What influenced the author most about Mrs. Korthaus in high school? A. Her wide knowledge of literature. B. Her tolerance for her students’ mistakes. C. Her patience in offering career advice. D. Her encouragement of the author’s potential. 25. Why are the three students mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To prove their academic success. B. To show how writing healed pain. C. To explain their job training needs. D. To show emotional ties built by writing. 26. Which of the following would the author value most? A. Students felt valued and recognized. B. She was forgiven for her poor attendance. C. Her students got the highest grades. D. Students spoke highly of her teaching. 27. What has the author come to realize about teaching? A. To teach is to touch a heart forever. B. Actions always speak louder than words. C. A good tree always bears good fruit. D. True love never goes without strict rules. C We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or lunch queue? Social networking sites have become virtual extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends? In the past, the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to be conversant with technology. However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days we teenagers are attracted to social networking sites because we can choose who we have around us; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated (侵犯) when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand, we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand, if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before. A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it seriously if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to show their independence.” Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list. 28. What does the underlined word “conversant” in the second paragraph probably mean? A. Familiar. B. Careful. C. Patient. D. Busy. 29. What might be the reason for teens to refuse their parents’ friend request? A. They have nothing to hide. B. Their privacy cannot be ensured. C. They don’t want to teach their parents. D. They can’t choose friends around them. 30. Why is the survey mentioned in the passage? A. To warn parents. B. To blame parents. C. To challenge parents. D. To comfort parents. 31. What is most likely to be talked about next? A. How to bridge the generation gap. B. How to make friends on social networks. C. How to explain the refusal to parents. D. How to use the social networking sites wisely. D Like all AI-generated art, creative writing crafted by a bot seems to be missing something fundamentally human. But as AI-generated content advances and becomes harder and harder to distinguish from human-made work, is people’s distaste for robot writing based on the product itself, or merely on how it was made? A new study suggests the latter: Though readers give preference to stories they think are written by humans, ultimately, they like AI-written pieces the best. The study, published by Cambridge University Press, asked 1,682 adult participants to read one of six short stories. Three of the stories were written by humans. The other three were generated by ChatGPT, each with a similar topic and style to one of the human-written samples. Each reader was told whether the story they read was written by a human or by AI — but they weren’t always told the truth. Overall, readers rated short stories written by artificial intelligence higher than those penned by published authors, and most could not tell which was which. When participants were told the AI stories were written by humans, they gave them even higher scores, regardless of their actual origin. One of the study’s authors, Skolnick Weisberg of Villanova University, said that public assumptions about AI’s capabilities are increasingly out of date. “We assume creative writing requires uniquely human qualities, which leads people to underestimate AI’s capabilities,” she said. AI-generated writing is trained on human work, and this experiment specifically called for AI stories based on human-written narratives. What, then, makes AI writing more appealing to readers? Weisberg thinks it may have to do with AI writing’s tendency to be “clearer, more direct, and easier to process,” she said. “By contrast, human-written stories are often more subtle (难捉摸的) and complex.” But even Weisberg reasons that artificial intelligence can never truly stand in for human writers. “We may need to make room for AI-generated novels, and for AI/human co-written novels, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no longer space for us to appreciate the process of human creativity,” she said. “Humans write as a form of creative self-expression or to challenge ourselves, or to make sense of our experiences. The fact that AI can generate human-like stories doesn’t change any of that.” 32. Why does the author raise the question in the opening paragraph? A. To question people’s judgment. B. To introduce the topic to explore. C. To criticize AI’s poor writing quality. D. To change people’s perception of AI writing. 33. What can be inferred from the new study? A. Readers didn’t give their true ratings. B. Readers could tell human from AI writing. C. There was a bias toward human authorship. D. Each story was labeled with its actual origin. 34. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 5? A. What sets AI writing apart. B. Where AI writing needs improving. C. Which AI stories are more engaging. D. How AI stories should be more human. 35. What does Weisberg think of human writing? A. It should become clearer like AI. B. It serves unique human purposes. C. It is less creative than AI writing. D. It will be eventually replaced by AI. How to Teach Children the Value of Hard Work In teaching children hard work, what we are really talking about is building self-confidence and perseverance when something is difficult. Teaching children hard work also encourages children to try new things. Here are some tips on teaching children the value of hard work. ● Praise the effort more than the accomplishment. If a child is praised more for being naturally good at doing a handstand (倒立) than when they work hard but fail at the monkey bars, they’re learning that better outcomes come from doing things that are easy. ____36____ This will help them learn that hard work, effort, and practice is valued as much as the actual outcome. ● Give specific praise. ____37____ When you praise your child, be specific about what you would like them to continue doing. “I like how you didn’t give up even after you fell off the monkey bars. You can do it!” Effort-specific praise lets your child know that you notice the work they are putting in and positively reinforces that effort. ● Coach your child instead of taking over. A coach’s job is to help develop skills. Instead of jumping in to finish something when your child struggles, ask yourself what tool or mindset can help them be successful. ____38____ Consider a child struggling to buckle (扣紧) the seatbelt because the jacket keeps getting caught. Coach your child to identify the problem and figure out a solution. ● ____39____ Tell your child stories of times when you thought about giving up but decided to try again instead, or about a mistake you made and how you solved the problem. Also encourage your children to talk to you about things in their life that they work hard at. These conversations help fuel the thought processes behind hard work and determination. Teaching your child the value of hard work can have a really positive impact on their future. Hard work is not a burden placed on children. ____40____ It’s essential for children to understand this in order to reach their fullest potential. A. Show by example. B. Do it the same day, every day. C. It is a gift that prepares them for life. D. This will require patience on your part. E. Be sure to adjust your expectations accordingly. F. Instead, praise your child when he tries again after failing. G. “Good job” doesn’t teach a child exactly what they did right. I had always considered myself a good student. My teacher, Mr. Liu had divided the class into groups to do speeches. Today was my turn. However, my hands shook so badly that I couldn’t read my notes. My voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Liu kindly ended my part of speech even though I clearly didn’t finish. He also asked me to stay after class for a moment. “Betty, I know you are shy, but you worked so hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Mr. Liu said, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find courage?” I nodded, grateful for the chance. I went as quickly as I could to my next class, keeping my head down and hoping the school day would end soon. When I reached home that afternoon, I could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mum was baking(烘焙). She studied my face as I came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Betty?” Tears shone in my eyes. I told her the whole story. Mum was silent for a moment with her hands busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything but you can’t talk to your class?” Mum asked. She set the time right and then said, “Let me show you something.” I followed her to the bedroom. There she showed me a book filled with pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon(丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy at first—not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my tears. You just need to find your courage.” Hearing Mum’s words, I stared at the valuable blue ribbon, lost in thought. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day I walked to the front of the classroom to give my speech. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 华清中学2026级高一年级第一次月考英语学科试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 命题人:张琪 李敏 校对人:张琪 李敏 注意事项: 1. Why does the woman talk to the man? My name is Andrew Brown. I’m a history teacher. I’ll give you a quick introduction to the school before I show you around. Our school is called a “free school”. This means that the pupils are free to choose what and how they want to learn. The school opens at 9:00 a.m., but the children can arrive whenever they like. Most of them are in school by 10:00. If you look through the door of that big room, you’ll see those children reading and drawing there. Four of the older boys are now on their way to the Car-room to have their driving lessons. Several children are taking turns in the kitchen to help Miss Cabe with lunch. They all enjoy doing this. After lunch it’s someone else’s job to do the washing-up. This job is unpopular. After lunch the children go on with what they’ve been doing until 4:30. On Mondays and Thursdays the school is open in the evening until 9:00 p.m. A Borough Market Food Tour with Local Guide On this three-hour Borough Market food tour in the London Bridge area, you will discover the very best of British cuisine while learning all about the history of the market. D 25. D 26. A 27. Korthaus helped me see the potential in myself, turning literature into a window to the outside world. (Korthaus老师帮我看到了自身的潜力,将文学变成了通向外部世界的窗口。)”可知,Mrs. Korthaus对作者影响最大的是她对作者潜力的鼓励。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Through their homework, my students gradually shared their real lives. One quiet young man surprised us with an insightful discussion on a complex fantasy novel. A devoted husband took careful notes home to his sick wife. A working mother grieving the loss of her son never missed a single class even during winter snowstorms. With patience and understanding, I watched them embrace writing not just as a task, but as a bridge for connection.(借着作业,我的学生们慢慢分享起自己真实的生活。 根据最后一段“one statement received the highest score across the board: I feel that this instructor cares about me. (有一句话获得了最高评分:我觉得这位老师关心我。)”以及”a teacher's true success lies not merely in delivering textbooks, but in helping students believe they are seen, valued, and capable of growth. 根据最后一段“Standing in that classroom, I finally understood what Mrs. Korthaus had lived by decades earlier: a teacher's true success lies not merely in delivering textbooks, but in helping students believe they are seen, valued, and capable of growth. A 29. B 30. D 31. 根据第二段“In the past, the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to be conversant with technology. 根据第三段“there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don't get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. 根据第五段“A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn't take it seriously if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent's friend request, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to show their independence.” 根据最后一段“Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list. B 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第一段“But as AI-generated content advances and becomes harder and harder to distinguish from human-made work, is people’s distaste for robot writing based on the product itself, or merely on how it was made? 根据第三段“When participants were told the AI stories were written by humans, they gave them even higher scores, regardless of their actual origin. 根据第五段“Weisberg thinks it may have to do with AI writing’s tendency to be “clearer, more direct, and easier to process,” she said. “By contrast, human-written stories are often more subtle (难捉摸的) and complex.” 根据第六段“Humans write as a form of creative self-expression or to challenge ourselves, or to make sense of our experiences. F 37. G 38. D 39. A 40. 【36题详解】 上文“If a child is praised more for being naturally good at doing a handstand (倒立) than when they work hard but fail at the monkey bars, they’re learning that better outcomes come from doing things that are easy.(如果一个孩子因天生擅长倒立受到的表扬,多于其努力尝试却没能完成攀爬架时受到的表扬,他们就会学到更好的结果来自做容易的事)”说明只表扬天赋会让孩子只做容易的事。空后“This will help them learn that hard work, effort, and practice is valued as much as the actual outcome.(这会帮助他们认识到努力、付出和练习和实际结果一样受重视)”说明需要转变表扬方式。 F“Instead, praise your child when he tries again after failing.(相反,当你的孩子失败后再次尝试时要表扬他)”直接对应“Praise the effort more than the accomplishment(多表扬努力的过程,而不是最终的成绩)”这一小标题,且与后文“hard work, effort”呼应。 空后“When you praise your child, be specific about what you would like them to continue doing.(表扬孩子时要具体说明你希望他们继续做的事)”强调表扬要具体。 G““Good job” doesn’t teach a child exactly what they did right.(“做得好”并不能确切告诉孩子他们做对了什么)”指出泛泛表扬的问题,自然引出下文“要具体”。 【38题详解】 本段小标题为“Coach your child instead of taking over.(做孩子的教练,而不是替他们包办)”。上文“Instead of jumping in to finish something when your child struggles, ask yourself what tool or mindset can help them be successful.(当孩子遇到困难时不要插手完成,而是思考什么工具或心态能帮他们成功)”说明家长应克制代劳冲动。 D“This will require patience on your part.(这需要你这边有耐心)”中的This指代“不插手、只引导”的做法,逻辑连贯。 下文“Tell your child stories of times when you thought about giving up but decided to try again instead, or about a mistake you made and how you solved the problem.(给你的孩子讲讲你曾经想放弃却决定再试一次的那些时刻的故事,或者讲讲你犯过的一个错误以及你是如何解决问题的)”说明家长要通过自身故事示范坚持,即以身作则。 【40题详解】 上文“Hard work is not a burden placed on children.(努力不是加在孩子身上的负担)”否定努力是负担。空处应正面说明努力的真正意义,与后文“It’s essential for children to understand this in order to reach their fullest potential.(孩子理解这一点对发挥最大潜能至关重要)”衔接。选项C“It is a gift that prepares them for life.(它是一份为他们人生做准备的礼物)”中It指代hard work,与“not a burden”形成转折递进。 I had always considered myself a good student. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Hearing Mum’s words, I stared at the valuable blue ribbon, lost in thought. What was it that made me so afraid? But still no answer came out. Soon the cake was finished. We went back to the kitchen for the baked cake. Mum cut a slice for the sweet cake and handed it to me, saying, “You can make it.” I raised the warm cake to my mouth. It was so delicious and fragrant. Suddenly I knew where I could find my courage. It was from my mum’s love. The next day I walked to the front of the classroom to give my speech. Seeing the quiet classroom, I couldn’t help but feel nervous again, my mind going blind and my voice trembling. Then I saw the blue ribbon which my mum tied to my wrist. I thought of Mum’s warm cake, her love and her inspiring experience. Then I took a deep breath and gave my speech with confidence. This time there was no fear any more but a big success and a round of applause. 词汇激活 行为类 ①出现:come out/appear/turn up ②递:hand/pass ③情不自禁做某事:couldn’t help but do sth./couldn’t help doing sth. 情绪类 ①害怕:afraid/in fear/frightened ②鼓舞人心的:inspiring/encouraging ③自信地:with confidence/confidently 【点睛】【高分句型1】Mum cut a slice for the sweet cake and handed it to me, saying, “You can make it.”(使用了and连接并列的谓语结构、现在分词短语作状语、直接引语) 【高分句型2】Seeing the quiet classroom, I couldn’t help but feel nervous again, my mind going blind and my voice trembling.
