B Daniel moved to a new school in September, three weeks after his father's job had taken the family to a city he had never visited. He knew no one. At lunch he ate quickly and then walked around the playground, pretending to be on his way somewhere. On his second Monday, he opened his locker and found a folded piece of paper. Inside was a short poem about rain running down a classroom window. There was no name, only a small drawing of a bird in the corner. He read it three times. It was not a great poem, but it was true. That evening, Daniel wrote a poem about the sound of the school bus and put it in the same place. The next morning, there was an answer — this time about the smell of the canteen. The exchange went on for weeks. He learned to look at the corner of his locker first thing after break, and the days stopped feeling so long. In December, a new note appeared: “Library, four o'clock. I'll be carrying a blue notebook.” Daniel almost didn't go. When he pushed the door open, he saw Mei, a girl from his art class, sitting at a table with the notebook in front of her. She looked as nervous as he felt. “You write like someone who listens,” she said. They spent the afternoon reading poems aloud. Daniel still didn't know many people at school, but he had found one, and one was enough to change a year. 24. Why did Daniel walk around the playground at lunch? A. To look for his locker. B. To practise writing poems. C. To meet his teacher. D. To avoid sitting alone. 25. What do we know about the first poem? A. It was about the rain. B. It was signed with a name. C. It was very long. D. It was written by a teacher. 26. What does the underlined phrase “went on” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Stopped suddenly. B. Became difficult. C. Continued. D. Spread widely. 27. What would be the best title for the text? A. A New School Year B. Rain on the Window C. The Art Class D. Notes in a Locker C In 2018, a team of researchers studied thousands of news stories shared on a social media platform. They found that false stories spread faster than true ones — and not because of robots. Real people, the study suggested, were doing most of the sharing. The reason seems to be emotion. A story that surprises us or makes us angry is more likely to be passed on than a careful report. False stories are often built to do exactly that: they use strong words, simple claims and a clear villain. True stories, which usually come with qualifications and uncertainty, are less exciting to share. Fact-checking helps, but not as much as we would like to believe. When people are shown a correction, they often accept it — for a moment. Later, the original claim may still feel true, because the feeling it produced stays longer than the fact that replaced it. We are also more willing to believe information that agrees with what we already think. So what can be done? Media literacy courses in schools now teach students to ask three questions before sharing: Who made this? How do they know? What do they want me to feel? None of these questions requires special knowledge. What they require is a pause. Slowing down is a skill, and like any skill, it improves with practice. 28. According to the text, why do false stories spread quickly? A. They are easy to read. B. They cause strong feelings. C. They are shared by famous people. D. They appear on many websites. 29. What does paragraph 3 suggest about fact-checking? A. It is rarely used by readers. B. It is becoming more popular. C. Its effect may not last long. D. It works better on social media. 30. What does the underlined word “villain” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. A famous expert. B. A surprising ending. C. A difficult question. D. A person to blame. 31. What is the main idea of the text? A. False news spreads easily and we can learn to slow down. B. Social media platforms should be closed. C. Students read too much news online. D. True stories are always boring. D On Sunday mornings, in parks across the country, thousands of people who will never be famous put on old shirts and play football. Nobody pays to watch. There are no cameras, no salaries and usually no physio. By the standards of professional sport, nothing much is at stake. And yet something is. A recent study of amateur clubs found that members were more likely to describe themselves as “happy with their lives” than people who watched the same sport only on television. The difference was not fitness. It was the weekly meeting: the same faces, the same jokes, the same small arguments about whether the ball was out. Professional sport, of course, has its own value. It gives us stories, heroes and a shared language. But it is a performance: we watch, we cheer, and then we turn off the screen. Grassroots sport works differently. It asks something of you — turning up in the rain, learning a teammate's name, losing without an excuse — and gives something back that a broadcast cannot. This is why local sports grounds matter. When a council closes a pitch to build a car park, it is not just losing a field. It is losing the place where a group of ordinary people become a team. 32. What did the study of amateur clubs find? A. Members trained harder than professionals. B. Members spent more money on sport. C. Members watched more sport on TV. D. Members felt happier about their lives. 33. What can be inferred about grassroots sport from paragraph 3? A. It is played mainly for money. B. It offers rewards beyond fitness. C. It requires professional training. D. It is less popular than it used to be. 34. What is the author's attitude towards grassroots sport? A. Doubtful. B. Critical. C. Uninterested. D. Supportive. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. How to Become a Professional Player B. The Money Behind Football C. More Than a Game D. Why We Watch Sport on TV Many people stand in front of a painting for eight seconds, read the label, nod, and move on. His clothes were old and torn, and his shoes had holes that let in the rain. Tom lived in a tiny room above a noisy cafe, where he worked washing dishes for a few coins each day. Life was hard, but Tom had a dream: he wanted to own a bakery, filling the streets with the warm smell of fresh bread. Tom’s parents passed away when he was young, leaving him with nothing but a kind heart and a strong will. Every night, after cleaning the cafe’s pots, he sat by a flickering candle and read books about baking. He borrowed these books from Mrs. Green, the village librarian, who saw something special in Tom’s bright eyes. One day, a poster appeared in the village square. It announced a baking competition in London, with a grand prize of £10,000. Tom’s heart raced. This could be his chance! But the journey to London cost money, and Tom had none. He worked extra hours, saved every penny, and even sold his only coat to buy a train ticket. When the day came, Tom boarded the train with a small bag and a nervous smile. In London, the competition was held in a huge hall filled with the best bakers from across England. Tom felt small among them. He had no fancy tools, just an old wooden spoon and a recipe he’d created himself, a soft, golden loaf with herbs from the village fields. His hands shook as he mixed flour, water, and yeast (酵母). The shake resulted from not just his nervousness, but also the coldness. After what seemed to be a century, Tom finally completed his herb loaf. All the baked bread and cakes were presented to the judges. The judges tasted them carefully. Hours passed, and Tom’s stomach twisted with worry. It seemed hard for him to make it through the announcement of the winner, both psychologically and physically. Before the judges announced the winner, Tom’s eyes accidentally met a familiar figure’s eyes — Mrs. Green was among the audience! Mrs. Green was holding a coat and waving her hands at Tom. W: On Wednesday, there will be a workshop on spotting fake news. It will be held in the library, not in the computer room as we said last week. Please sign up online before Tuesday if you want to join. W: On Friday evening, we'll show a short film about how photographs can change a story. Bring a friend and enjoy some popcorn. That's all for today. Text 9 M: Lily, your photo of the school basketball final is on the front page of our newspaper. How did you get it? W: I stood right under the basket. I waited for the moment when the player jumped highest. M: Did you use a special camera? W: Just my father's old one. I've been practising with it for two years. M: Any advice for beginners like me? W: Watch more than you shoot. Learn what a good moment looks like before you press the button. Text 10 M: When Sarah was seven, she was afraid of deep water. She would not even put her face in the pool. M: Her mother, a primary school teacher, took her to the town pool every Sunday morning. For two months, Sarah only sat on the side and watched. M: Then one Sunday, she jumped in. At twelve, she joined the school swimming team. In her first race, she finished last, more than half a minute behind the winner. M: Her coach said to her, “The clock is not your enemy. It only tells you where you are today.” Sarah never forgot those words. M: At sixteen, she won the city championship. Today she teaches children to swim, and she often tells them the same words her coach once told her. A Looking for something to do this summer? What are participants asked to do? A. Wear old clothes. B. Come every day. C. Pay for the materials. D. Bring their own brushes. 【答案】A 【解析】【细节理解题】根据 Who can join 部分 “All materials are provided, but wear an old shirt — paint does not come out easily” 可知,材料由主办方提供,但要求穿旧衬衫,故选 A。C、D 与“材料提供”矛盾;B 项与“You may come for as many days as you like”矛盾。 23. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To review a painting workshop. B. To report a family day event. C. To introduce a summer art programme. D. To advertise a painting for sale. 【答案】D 【解析】【推理判断题】第一段写他“ate quickly and then walked around the playground, pretending to be on his way somewhere”,“假装要去某个地方”说明他不想让人看出自己没有同伴,实质是在回避独自坐着,故选 D。 25. What do we know about the first poem? A. It was about the rain. B. It was signed with a name. C. It was very long. D. It was written by a teacher. 【答案】A 【解析】【细节理解题】第二段 “a short poem about rain running down a classroom window” 明确说明诗写的是雨,故选 A。B 项与 “There was no name” 相反;C 项与 “a short poem” 相反;D 项文中无据。 26. What does the underlined phrase “went on” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Stopped suddenly. B. Became difficult. C. Continued. D. Spread widely. 27. What would be the best title for the text? A. A New School Year B. Rain on the Window C. The Art Class D. Notes in a Locker 【答案】D 【解析】【主旨大意题】全文围绕储物柜里互留诗笺这一线索展开:发现诗—回诗—持续数周—约定见面—成为朋友,“Notes in a Locker”既概括核心事件又贯穿全文,故选 D。 C In 2018, a team of researchers studied thousands of news stories shared on a social media platform. A 项把“simple claims”偷换为“easy to read”;C、D 文中未提。 29. What does paragraph 3 suggest about fact-checking? A. It is rarely used by readers. B. It is becoming more popular. C. Its effect may not last long. D. It works better on social media. 【答案】C 【解析】【推理判断题】第三段说人们看到更正“for a moment”会接受,但“Later, the original claim may still feel true, because the feeling it produced stays longer than the fact”,说明更正的效果难以持久,故选 C。 30. 【答案】D 【解析】【细节理解题】第二段 “members were more likely to describe themselves as ‘happy with their lives’ than people who watched the same sport only on television”,故选 D。 33. What can be inferred about grassroots sport from paragraph 3? A. It is played mainly for money. B. It offers rewards beyond fitness. C. It requires professional training. D. It is less popular than it used to be. 【答案】B 【解析】【推理判断题】第三段说基层体育“asks something of you... and gives something back that a broadcast cannot”,即除身体锻炼外还带来归属感、责任感等回报,故选 B。 34. What is the author's attitude towards grassroots sport? A. Doubtful. B. Critical. C. Uninterested. D. Supportive. 【答案】D 【解析】【观点态度题】作者用“This is why local sports grounds matter”以及“losing the place where ordinary people become a team”等表述,明确肯定基层体育的价值,故选 D(支持)。 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. How to Become a Professional Player B. The Money Behind Football C. More Than a Game D. Why We Watch Sport on TV 【答案】C 【解析】【主旨大意题】文章以周日公园里的业余球赛切入,对比职业体育,指出基层体育的价值远超胜负与健身,“More Than a Game”最能概括这一主旨,故选 C。 Many people stand in front of a painting for eight seconds, read the label, nod, and move on. Then they say they “don't really understand art”. ____36____ Start with what you can see. Before you read anything, name three things in the picture: a colour, an object, a person. ____37____ You will notice that your eye keeps returning to one of them, and that is usually where the painter wanted you to begin. Then look at the light. ____38____ A face lit from below looks strange; the same face lit from the side looks kind. Ask where the light comes from and what it is doing to the things around it. Next, ask what has been left out. A painting is a choice. ____39____ A street with no people, a table with one plate, a window with no view — these absences are part of the meaning, not mistakes. Finally, compare. Put two paintings side by side in your mind, or walk between them twice. ____40____ After ten minutes you will have opinions, and opinions are the beginning of understanding. A. It is one of the first decisions a painter makes. B. Silence in a picture can speak very loudly. C. In fact, looking is a skill that can be learned. D. Most visitors never get past this first step. E. This simple exercise slows your eyes down. F. Galleries are also good places to meet friends. G. Difference is easier to see than quality. The wall at the end of Mill Street was ugly. For years people had written words on it that nobody wanted to read, and nobody had ____41____ it. When the council announced that the wall would be ____42____ down, Grace, a fifteen-year-old who passed it every day, felt a strange sadness. “I'd rather paint it than lose it,” she told her art teacher. He ____43____ her to write to the council. Two weeks later she received a letter ____44____ her to use the wall for one summer. Grace had never painted anything so ____45____ before: a wall forty metres long. Her first design was too complicated and her second too ____46____. In the end she chose a simple scene: the street itself, with its shops, its dogs and its people. Work began in July. The sun was hot, and the wall was ____47____ than she had expected. The brush kept catching on the bricks. Neighbours stopped to watch. An old man ____48____ her water and told her what the street had looked like when he was a boy. Some children asked if they could help, so she gave them the lowest part of the wall, where their mistakes would not ____49____. By August the wall had changed. So had the street. As both a time-honored and young art, nut carving began to emerge ____57____ a national cultural heritage in 2008. Dating back to Song Dynasty (960-1279), the complicated process is like playing ballet on the pit, with the main tools being file, chisel and drill. Small as it is, it has different styles, ____58____ (vary) significantly from northern to southern regions. The northern style is mainly practiced in Shandong Province where nut carving is often done on peach pits, the surface layer of ____59____ is rich in fold texture (纹理) skillfully employed by the miniaturist ____60____ (carve) vivid three-dimensional shapes. The southern style particularly finds its popularity in Jiangsu Province. When examining Suzhou nut carving ____61____ (specific), artists tend to select olive pits with thick outer walls and smooth surfaces, allowing for the ____62____ (achieve) of fine carvings. Nut carving is young as it has only been trendy for about 20 years, featuring a shift from handicrafts to ____63____ (fashion) items. Modern aesthetics (审美), ____64____ (combine) with scientific and technological means, make nut carving works more up-to-date and push the craft to ____65____ new height. 56.be turned 57.as 58.varying 59.which 60.to carve 61.specifically 62.achievement 63.fashionable 64.combined 65.a 56. 空后是名词短语 a national cultural heritage,需要一个介词;emerge as ... the surface layer of ____ 是“名词 + of + 关系代词”结构,引导非限制性定语从句,先行词 peach pits 指物,介词 of 后只能用 which(不能用 that,也不用 whose,因为 of 已在前)。 60. employed by the miniaturist ____ (carve) vivid three-dimensional shapes 中,“微雕师利用纹理”的目的是“雕出生动的立体形状”,用不定式 to carve 作目的状语。 61. “from handicrafts to fashionable items”与前面 a shift 呼应。 64. Modern aesthetics;be combined with 意为“与……结合”,aesthetics 与 combine 是被动关系,故用过去分词 combined(= which are combined with ...)。 65. push the craft to a new height 中 height 为可数名词单数,此处表“一个新高”,是泛指,用不定冠词;new 以辅音音素开头,填 a。 The Sport That Changed My Week The Sport That Changed My Week 【参考范文】 The Sport That Changed My Week Of all the sports I have tried, running is the one that has taken root. I did not choose it: last spring a friend signed me up for a weekend group, and I turned up out of politeness. The early sessions were humbling. Three kilometres felt beyond me, and my only comfort was watching the finish line creep nearer. Yet my body took to it sooner than my doubts did, and by autumn five kilometres had become ordinary. The change went beyond distance. Because the group meets at seven, I have had to reorganise my evenings, and the sleep that follows has sharpened my reading and my memory as revision never could. I have also come to see that classroom tiredness and the tiredness of a hard run differ: one drains, the other settles. Sport is often mistaken for a matter of winners and losers, but for me it is quieter, a promise I keep each week, and one that makes the week easier. 【亮点】1. has taken root(扎下根来,替换 stayed with me);2. The early sessions were humbling(humbling 写出初学时的挫败感);3. felt beyond me(超出我的能力);4. my body took to it sooner than my doubts did(比较结构+拟人化,身体比疑虑更早接受);5. by autumn five kilometres had become ordinary(过去完成时,写出变化已完成);6. as revision never could(as 引导的比较状语从句,省略式);7. one drains, the other settles(平行对照,drain 与 settle 一动一静);8. Sport is often mistaken for a matter of winners and losers, but for me...(被动+转折,观点鲜明)。 In a small and dusty village in England, there lived a young man named Tom Harper. With the prize money, Tom opened a small bakery in his village. Mrs. Green was holding a coat and waving her hands at Tom. Tom was rather surprised that Mrs. Green, who was the nicest librarian in Tom’s eyes, would come here to watch his competition. The support from his village gave him great confidence, a warm current flowing through his mind. “The winner,” the judges said, “is Tom Harper, for his simple yet extraordinary herb loaf!” The crowd cheered and Tom’s eyes were filled with tears. Mrs. Green raced to Tom and they hugged each other closely and later they happily went back to the village. With the prize money, Tom opened a small bakery in his village. Tom worked very hard and he even got up at dawn to bake. Word spread about his delicious bread and soon, people came from miles away. Tom donated bread to the poor and shared his story to inspire others. “Hard work and kindness can change your life,” he told them. Mrs. Green visited often, sipping tea and saying, “I knew you’d make it, Tom.” Years passed, and Tom has built more than a business but a life of purpose, proving that dreams, hard work, and kindness could turn rags into riches. 1. Tom was rather surprised that Mrs. Green, who was the nicest librarian in Tom’s eyes, would come here to watch his competition(宾语从句+非限制性定语从句);2. The support from his village gave him great confidence, a warm current flowing through his mind(独立主格);3. proving that dreams, hard work, and kindness could turn rags into riches(现在分词作状语+宾语从句)。 1 A 2 B 3 C 4 A 5 C 6 B 7 B 8 A 9 C 10 A 11 B 12 C 13 A 14 B 15 C 16 B 17 A 18 C 19 B 20 A 21 B 22 A 23 C 24 D 25 A 26 C 27 D 28 B 29 C 30 D 31 A 32 D 33 B 34 D 35 C 36 C 37 E 38 A 39 B 40 G 41 C 42 A 43 B 44 D 45 C 46 B 47 A 48 D 49 B 50 A 51 C 52 D 53 A 54 B 55 C 56 be turned 57 as 58 varying 59 which 60 to carve 61 specifically 62 achievement 63 fashionable 64 combined 65 a The city art museum is showing student paintings.
