Part of STEM learning is seeing and doing, and then recording and analyzing the results. But not all online or homeschool programs are set up to accommodate science experiments or other STEM learning activities. Let’s take a look at a few mind-blowing labs that can help bring STEM topics alive for your child’s online school experience.
Weather Laboratories
To make learning about weather accessible and fun, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) created a lot of informative weather activities and virtual labs they recommend for students and educators. In fact, their weather science content for kids features a Weather Lab application that allows middle school students to predict weather patterns, and learn what happens when ocean currents and air masses interact.
Simulations (模拟) for Science and Math
It is a project of the University of Colorado Boulder and one of the richest single databases of online science interactives and virtual labs. Investigate more than 150 physics, chemistry, math, biology, and Earth science topics. Available in dozens of languages, the interactives are searchable by grade level, subject, and accessibility.
Space Exploration Simulations
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) features many STEM learning activities for students in grades K-12. The interactive simulations are also gamified and make learning engaging and fun for your child. The app allows users to explore the universe and unlock stories of trailblazing scientists and their contributions to space exploration and science.
1. Who are the intended readers?
A. Parents. B. Students. C. Teachers. D. Researchers.
2. What makes Simulations for Science and Math different from the other labs?
A. It covers the most subjects. B. It has a translation centre.
C. It offers gamified learning experiences. D. It provides multiple tools for recording.
3. What do all the three labs have in common?
A. They centre on problem solving skills.
B. They facilitate advanced scientific research.
C. They provide virtual scientific exploration.
D. They help students with STEM projects from school.

After ten years in London, I recently relocated to Berlin, and as is customary when making new friends, the question “Where are you from?” tends to come up. My honest answer would be, “I don’t really know.”
The truth is, most of us TCKs (Third Culture Kids) — a term coined to describe “children who move between cultures before they have had the opportunity to fully develop their personal and cultural identity” — had no choice growing up but to follow our parents around the world. We’d often be told, “Pack your bags, kids. We’re moving!” and in the blink of an eye, everything would change.
By the time I was 18, I had changed schools 10 times, moved countries at least 6 times, acquired a confusing accent, and developed both a love of travel and a desire for stability. Being an Indonesian-Italian, I often felt an identity crisis weighing on me in my teens.
Moving to a new country after spending ten years in the UK — the longest I have lived anywhere — has brought back feelings of this cultural confusion. Growing up as a TCK isn’t as charming as many people would expect. It is both a blessing and a curse (诅咒), beautiful but unpredictable, and full of adventures. This lack of roots and stability will likely cause issues later in life.
Yet kids are adaptable. After overcoming culture shock, you start to adjust and see the bigger picture. You learn that the world is much bigger than you, and that your problems are small. You also learn responsibility, respect different beliefs, and form your own opinions. Making friends and then losing touch teaches you that everything is temporary.
Growing up as a TCK, you rarely realize how adaptable you are, until your older friends often comment on how “wise and mature” you are for your age. Travelling from a young age opens your eyes beyond “Hypernormalization”. It teaches that diversity is nothing to be afraid of. Growing up as a TCK was tough, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It has shaped me to be the person that I am today — an actual “citizen of the world”.
4. How does the author usually respond to “Where are you from”?
A. By stating her nationality directly. B. By admitting her uncertainty honestly.
C. By explaining the TCK concept briefly. D. By describing her experiences in detail.
5. What does the author say about TCKs’ childhood?
A. They enjoyed planning their moves.
B. They resisted their parents’ decisions.
C. They maintained their personal lifestyle.
D. They were forced to adapt to sudden changes.
6. Which of the following can best describe TCKs’ experiences?
A. Tough and confusing. B. Peaceful and predictable.
C. Routine but eye-opening. D. Adventurous but beneficial.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Growing up as a TCK B. Challenges for Migration
C. How to Become a Global Citizen D. How to Adapt to Diverse Cultures

It’s Monday morning again. Like many others, you spend your weekend resting, say, scrolling on your phone, but somehow when the workweek arrives, you never feel as refreshed as you hoped. You wonder: Is there a better way to recharge? Now research suggests the answer is “yes” and it lies in leisure crafting.
Leisure crafting is not about what you do in your free time, but how you do it. It involves structuring things you already enjoy doing with intentionality so that they help you set individual goals, promote social connections, and build skills. The idea is not to completely shift your approach to free time — or even pick up new pursuits-as much as it is to integrate a few specific goals. Like to run? Try training for a race. Enjoy reading? Aim to read a certain number of books every month.
Setting goals in off-hours looks like another example of letting work-brain logic inch its way into personal lives. But done right, it can help you feel a sense of purpose, confidence, and accomplishment, says Alex Hamrick, a management professor at the University of Richmond. Researchers did 11 field studies with more than 2,400 working professionals and found that individuals reported higher energy levels, more positive moods, and stronger overall well-being after engaging in leisure crafting.
While leisure crafting requires commitment and goal-setting, it is still simply that: leisure. The goal is not to turn hobbies into a second job. Research has shown that people’s productivity tends to stop increasing at 60 hours a week. Expanding the hours spent maximizing output, even in pursuit of perfecting your cooking techniques or reading detective novels, could make you more tired. Hamrick agrees that if purposeful pursuits start to feel like work, it might be time to stop. Leisure crafting should enhance-not replace-other forms of relaxation.
A recent government guide to getting off your phone included the suggestion of setting a recreational goal as a diversion from the screen. Beyond all the grander reasons to leisure craft, that simple one may be among the most relevant.
8. What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph?
A. Lack of effective ways to rest. B. Working through the weekend.
C. Addiction to playing on phones. D. Feeling worried about the future.
9. Which of the following is the main feature of leisure crafting?
A. Shifting your life focus. B. Extending your free time.
C. Acting with a purpose. D. Taking up new hobbies.
10. What is paragraph 3 mainly about concerning leisure crafting?
A. Its approaches. B. Its purposes. C. Its benefits. D. Its examples.
11. Why does the author mention the research in paragraph 4?
A. To argue against setting unrealistic goals.
B. To warn against overdoing leisure crafting.
C. To explain why commitment is vital for success.
D. To prove how leisure crafting improves efficiency.

Is there food on Mars? Almost certainly not. But astronauts need to eat every day, and sending food to space is super expensive—one meal can cost $10, 000. Thus, finding a way to feed them on the trip to Mars is a really big challenge.
Now, UK-based researchers think they have the solution. Dr Rodrigo, the lead researcher, says astronauts could grow their own food while flying to Mars. These researchers are carrying out a project for astronauts to produce food in a smart and Earth-friendly way, using a few special cells (细胞) and mini cell factories to create useful products.
The project has now been tested in space when a spaceship took cells into orbit. The cells were in a mini space lab. It is like a small science lab in a box that lets scientists do experiments under microgravity, without the usual limits of space research. In the space lab, cells grew and produced a particular vitamin (维生素). “This material could be collected and eaten by astronauts in the space,” Dr Rodrigo said, “but the space lab is hard to bring. So we need to rethink how it may look like.”
Dr Rodrigo and his team hope even a short time in microgravity will show whether their cells can produce different kinds of food, from milk products to ice cream. They also hope the technology will be applied to a wide range of industries. “In the future, when we build a base on the Moon, we'll need space labs like this to help people live there for a long time, ” he said.
12. What makes feeding astronauts on the trip to Mars challenging?
A. High cost of space meals. B. Limited space for food.
C. Long transportation time. D. Uncertainty of cell growth.
13. What is the purpose of the project carried out by researchers?
A. To find food on Mars. B. To create food in space.
C. To explore life on Mars. D. To send astronauts to space.
14. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The role of vitamin in space. B. The health problems of astronauts.
C. The design work of spaceship. D. The test of the project in space lab.
15. What does Dr Rodrigo think of space labs?
A. Easy to bring to space. B. Important for the Moon bases.
C. Expensive to build in space. D. Difficult for humans to produce.

Modern life moves faster than our minds were designed to handle. In the last twenty years, technology ____36____ (advance) ahead of human evolution. We live in a 24/7 digital world, but our brains still run on ancient “hardware” designed for ____37____(survive). This “speed gap” helps explain ____38____ we often feel overwhelmed. 第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Asher loved spending time in his grandfather's garden. Every evening, he carefully held the watering can as his grandfather showed him how to pour just the right amount on each plant. “These plants need us, Asher,” Grandpa often said. “If we take care of them, they will take care of us.”
Asher loved plants. He loved their bright green leaves, the way they danced in the wind, and how fresh they smelled after rain. Plants made him feel calm and safe. But when it came to people, Asher was not so confident. At school, he was one of the quietest kids. While others laughed and played loudly, he often sat alone, unsure how to join them.
One afternoon during break, Asher walked past the big oak tree (橡树) near the playground. A group of kids stood nearby, pulling leaves from its lower branches and throwing them into the air. “Look! Leaf rain!” one of them shouted, laughing.
Asher’s chest tightened. He loved trees. He knew that leaves helped trees breathe and grow. He wanted to say something, but fear held him back. What if they laughed at him? What if they ignored him? After a moment, he turned away and walked back to the classroom without saying a word.
That evening, Asher sat in the garden with his grandfather, watering the plants as usual, but his mind was not at peace. His silence did not escape Grandpa. After a while, Asher shared what had happened at school and how he felt. He explained that he wanted to protect the tree but did not feel brave enough.
His grandfather listened carefully. He told Asher that courage does not mean being fearless. It means doing what is right, even when fear is present. He reminded Asher that change often begins with one small voice and one brave choice. Those words stayed in Asher’s mind all night.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

Knowing you're interested in the photos I posted on the social media, I’m writing to tell you something about the Winter Cycling activity held last week around our city.
Aiming to raise students’ awareness of sports, the activity started at the school gate and finished at the City Square, covering 20 km. All sports lovers competed fiercely as soon as the match began. Though several cyclists were tired, they still tried their best to keep up with the main team. Through one-hour cycling, all reached the finishing line safely. All the participants were excited to take part in the event, saying that they hope to join in more activities like this. Have you got similar events that you can tell me about?
I'm looking forward to your reply.

【47题答案】
【答案】
The next day during break, Asher saw the same kids pulling leaves just like before. This time, he didn’t walk away. His heart pounded, but Grandpa’s words echoed in his mind: courage means doing what is right even when you are afraid. Taking a shaky breath, Asher stepped forward. “Hey,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Please stop.” The kids turned, surprised. “Leaves help trees breathe,” Asher continued, trying to sound calm. “If you pull them all off, the tree could get sick and die.” For a long moment, nobody spoke. Then one boy dropped the leaf in his hand. “Really?” he asked. “I never thought about that.” Asher nodded, feeling a small wave of confidence. “Instead of hurting it,” he suggested, “we could protect it together.”
The kids soon agreed to Asher’s suggestion. They fetched cardboard and bright markers from the classroom and made a large sign that read, “Protect Our Tree — It Gives Us Shade and Clean Air.” Together, they tied it to the oak tree. Over the next few weeks, the group took turns watering the tree and picking up litter around it. Asher no longer sat alone during break. He stood and laughed with his new friends under the spreading branches. One afternoon, Grandpa came to pick him up and saw the sign. His eyes shone with pride. “You see, Asher?” he said quietly. “You took care of the tree, and the tree brought you friends.” Asher smiled, feeling the warm sun and an even warmer sense of belonging. He finally understood: when we take care of plants, they take care of us in ways we never expect.
