持续;from…to…
17.What will Mr Yuan mainly talk about?
A.How to choose learning apps. B.The story of a self-taught maths learner. C.The best time to review lessons. D.The way to make a timetable.
由 Opening Talk 一栏“Mr Yuan will share the story of Hua Luogeng, who started out at zero and taught himself maths in a small shop.”
【知识点梳理】Unit 3 短语 start out at zero 从零开始;teach oneself 自学(=learn…by oneself);who 引导的非限制性定语从句,补充说明先行词 Hua Luogeng。
18.Li Hua wants to improve his memory and manage his time better. Which two activities should he choose?
A.Workshop 1 and Workshop 3. B.Workshop 1 and Workshop 2. C.Workshop 2 and Workshop 3. D.The Opening Talk and Workshop 1.
Workshop 2 “Memory in Seven Days … three ways to boost your memory”;二是管理时间,对应 Workshop 3 “use two free learning apps to manage your time”。
19.Which of the following is TRUE according to the poster?
A.Students have to pay for the workshops. B.There is no limit on the number of students. C.Students should sign up before November 6th. D.Every student will receive a set of flashcards.
由 Note 一栏“Sign up on the school website before November 6th.” A项与“All the activities … are free”矛盾;B项与“Seats … are limited”矛盾;D项把“参加三项及以上活动者”扩大成了“每位学生”,属范围扩大。
【知识点梳理】sign up 报名;be limited 有限的;take part in 参加;Anyone who…
B
①In the north of Hangzhou stands a group of red-brick buildings. Young people today call it “the creative block”. Few of them know that this was once Hangzhou No. 2 Silk Factory, the largest silk factory in the city.
②The factory was built in 1958. For more than forty years, its machines ran day and night. At its busiest time, over three thousand workers worked here. Every morning at eight, the whistle rang, and thousands of bicycles poured into the gate. “Those were the days,” says Mr Shen, who started working there at eighteen. “We were poor, but we were full of energy.”
③Things began to change in the 1990s. Machines in other cities were newer and faster. Gradually, orders dropped, and in 2007 the factory finally closed. The machines were taken away and the workshops fell silent. For years, people walked past the broken windows and shook their heads.
④Instead of pulling the buildings down, the local government decided to keep them. In 2013, the old workshops were turned into offices, studios and small museums, while the red bricks and even some old machines were carefully kept. Today, young designers, programme writers and artists work where silk workers once stood. The tall chimney, which used to send out black smoke, is now a landmark covered with lights at night.
⑤“I come here almost every week,” says Mr Shen, now seventy-two. “I am not sad when I see the changes. The buildings are still here, and so are our stories.”
20.Why does the writer mention “thousands of bicycles poured into the gate”?
A.To show that workers were afraid of being late. B.To show that the factory was busy and full of life. C.To show that there were few buses in Hangzhou then. D.To show that bicycles were a gift from the factory.
ran day and night 日夜运转;pour into 涌入;be full of energy 充满活力。
21.Why did the factory finally close in 2007?
A.It lost orders to factories with newer machines. B.A serious accident stopped the machines. C.All the workers moved to other cities. D.The government needed the land for new roads.
【答案】A
由第三段“Machines in other cities were newer and faster. Gradually, orders dropped, and in 2007 the factory finally closed.”
22.What does the underlined word “Gradually” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
【知识点梳理】构词法:gradual(逐渐的)+ -ly → gradually(逐渐地),-ly 是副词后缀。同类词:wise→wisely、efficient→efficiently、brave→bravely。
23.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Silk Industry in China B.A Worker's Busy Life C.Old Bricks, New Lives D.How to Run a Modern Studio
instead of doing 而不是做某事;turn…into…
C
①On a clear night in Guizhou Province, a huge white “bowl” lies quietly among green mountains. It is FAST, the world's largest radio telescope. People call it “the eye of China”. Behind it stands a man who never saw it work at full power — Nan Rendong.
②Nan was born in 1945 in a small town in Jilin. As a boy, he was curious about everything and often took his toys apart to see how they worked. In 1994, when China decided to build its own large radio telescope, Nan was already a well-known scientist. Yet he took the hardest job: finding the right place for it.
③For twelve years, Nan and his team walked through hundreds of mountains in Guizhou, sleeping in farmhouses and drinking water from mountain springs. Villagers remember him as a thin man in an old jacket who always carried a heavy bag of maps. Finally, in 2006, they found a natural basin called Dawodang which suited the telescope perfectly.
④Building FAST was even harder. There was no experience to follow and no foreign expert to ask for advice. Nan drew thousands of pictures himself and argued with engineers over every detail. When money ran short, he went from city to city looking for support. “If it is not done well, how can we face the next generation?” he used to say.
⑤FAST was completed in September 2016, about one year before Nan died of illness in 2017. He never had the chance to hear its first signal from space, but his dream has come true. In 2018, an asteroid was named after him — today “Nan Rendong Star” shines quietly above us every night.
⑥Nan once wrote: “Beauty is not in getting something for yourself, but in doing something for the whole world.” To many young Chinese, he is the brightest star of all.
24.How long did it take Nan and his team to find the right place for FAST?
A.About five years. B.About twelve years. C.About twenty years. D.About thirty years.
第三段首句“For twelve years, Nan and his team walked through hundreds of mountains…”
25.What do the villagers' words in Paragraph 3 tell us about Nan?
A.He lived a simple life and worked hard in the field. B.He was rich but dressed badly. C.He often got lost in the mountains. D.He enjoyed travelling around the world.
【答案】A
take…apart 把……拆开;be curious about 对……
26.What can we learn from Nan Rendong's words in the last paragraph?
A.True beauty lies in working for others. B.Scientists should travel around the world. C.Young people should study the stars. D.It is important to become famous.
【答案】A
【知识点梳理】not…but… 不是……而是……(连接两个并列成分);the whole world 全世界;for oneself 为自己;不定式 getting / doing 作介词 in 的宾语。
27.Why does the writer call Nan Rendong “the brightest star of all”?
A.Because he discovered a new star in space. B.Because an asteroid was named after him and his spirit still shines. C.Because FAST looks like a bright star at night. D.Because he liked watching stars when he was a boy.
name…after…
D
①Three months before the mid-term exam, Lin Bo was in trouble. He had copied every English word twenty times, gone to bed at midnight and drunk two cups of coffee every evening. Yet the next morning the words seemed to have disappeared from his mind. “Maybe I was just born with a poor memory,” he said to himself.
②His teacher, Miss Yan, didn't think so. “Memory is not a box you are born with,” she said. “It works more like a muscle — the more wisely you train it, the stronger it grows.” Then she shared three methods with him.
③The first was “linking”. Lin Bo connected each new word to a picture or a joke. For example, he imagined a huge elephant sitting on the word “exam”. The picture was so silly that it stayed in his mind for weeks.
④The second was “spacing”. Instead of reviewing everything at the weekend, he went over each word list five minutes after class, again the next morning, and once more three days later. To his surprise, he spent less time but remembered much more.
⑤The third, Miss Yan said, was the simplest and the hardest: sleep. Scientists have found that the brain fixes what we have learned while we are asleep. Lin Bo began sleeping half an hour earlier and stopped drinking coffee after four o'clock.
⑥By November, something had changed. Not only did Lin Bo remember more words, but he also began to enjoy learning. On his desk there was a new note: “Don't work harder. Work wiser.”
⑦In fact, Lin Bo's problem was never his memory. It was that nobody had ever told him how memory works.
28.What was Lin Bo's real problem?
A.He didn't work hard enough. B.He didn't know how memory works. C.He was born with a poor memory. D.He drank too much coffee.
文章结尾点明:“Lin Bo's problem was never his memory. It was that nobody had ever told him how memory works.”
born with 天生具有;muscle 肌肉;The more…, the stronger… 越……越……。
29.According to the “spacing” method, when should a student first go over a word list?
A.Right before the exam. B.Five minutes after class. C.At the weekend. D.Three days later.
由第四段“he went over each word list five minutes after class, again the next morning, and once more three days later”可知首次复习应在课后5分钟,故选B。
【知识点梳理】Unit 4 复习策略词:go over 复习;word list 单词表;instead of doing 而不是做某事;to one's surprise 令某人惊讶的是;顺序词 first / second / third 是定位细节的路标。
30.The word “umbrella” is hard for you to remember. According to the “linking” method, which way works best?
A.Copying it twenty times before going to bed. B.Imagining a bright yellow umbrella opening like a big flower above your head. C.Going over it only once three days later. D.Reading it aloud with a cup of coffee.
【知识点梳理】Unit 4 记忆方法:linking 联想法(把新信息与夸张画面挂钩)、spacing 间隔复习法、充足睡眠巩固记忆;connect A to / with B 把A与B联系起来;imagine doing sth.
This term has just begun. You may have already told yourself, “I will study harder this time.” 31.________ Working smarter, however, is another story. Here are four ideas from top students in Grade Nine.
First, set goals that suit you. “I will get better grades” is not a goal — it is a wish. 32.________ Small goals help you see your progress clearly and keep you going.
Second, make full use of your best hours. 33.________ If you are freshest in the morning, do the hardest reading then; leave the easier tasks for the afternoon. Working against your own clock only wastes energy.
Third, don't study alone all the time. 34.________ Explaining a difficult point to a classmate may help you understand it better yourself. Besides, others may come across useful websites or apps that you have never heard of.
Finally, take a real break. Nobody can focus for five hours without rest. 35.________ A short walk or ten minutes of music can clear your mind, and you will return to your desk with more energy.
A. Some students simply do not have a brain for languages.
B. Try something like “I will learn fifteen new words every day.”
C. Studying with friends can open up new ways of thinking.
D. Yet studying hard and studying smart are not the same thing.
E. In addition, never put off what you can do today.
F. Everyone has hours when the brain works best.
G. Give your brain time to rest, and it will pay you back.
Unit 3 短语 make full use of 充分利用;set goals 设定目标;clear one's mind 理清思绪;pay sb. back 回报某人;come across 偶然遇到;put off 推迟。

Luckily, Miss Yan, my English teacher, shared a useful 57.________ (方法)with me. Since then, everything has changed. Instead of studying for hours at weekends, I 58.________ (复习)my notes for fifteen minutes every evening. To my surprise, this small change worked 59.________ (更好地)than any expensive app.

Sometimes she 63.________ (回忆)the days when there was no electricity in her village, and her stories always 64.________ (使想起)me of how lucky I am. 56.memorize 57.method 58.reviewed 59.better 60.magazines 61.confidence 62.aloud 63.recalls 64.remind 65.suits
60. be full of 后接复数名词,“杂志”复数为 magazines。
62. 修饰动词 read 用副词,“大声地”aloud(注意 aloud 是副词,不是 loud)。
64. remind sb. of sth.
Unit 3 词:method、review、magazine、aloud、suit;Unit 4 词:memorize、confidence、recall、remind。
Our school has changed a lot 66.________ I first came here three years ago. There used 67.________(be)only one small library on the second floor, but now there are two bright ones.
Last Friday we were invited to a talk on how 68.________(improve)our memory. The speaker, a young researcher from Zhejiang University, told us something surprising: forgetting is not always bad. It is simply our brain's way of keeping what is really important. What matters is how often we review.
She suggested 69.________(take)notes by hand instead of typing everything into a phone. “When you write a word 70.________ hand, your brain works harder and the word stays longer,” she explained. Then she showed us photos of notes 71.________ were full of colours and small drawings. “These are far better than walls of black text,” she said.
Since that day, all my old notes 72.________(keep)in a blue box on my desk, and I go over them for ten minutes every evening. I have remembered far more words, and English is no longer the subject that I am afraid 73.________ .
I have also realised that a good method is like a key: whether it works or not depends on how often you use it. My deskmate, who used to be the 74.________(lazy)student in our class, now reviews his lessons with me every day. “Nobody is born with a perfect brain,” he often says 75.________(wise). “What we need is smarter habits.”
66.since 67.to be 68.to improve 69.taking 70.by 71.which 72.have been kept 73.of 74.laziest 75.wisely
66. 主句为现在完成时,后接“I first came here three years ago”这一过去时间点从句,填连词 since(自从)。
67. there used to be 表示“过去曾经有”,提示词 be 前有 used,填 to be。
68. “疑问词 how + 不定式”构成不定式短语,作介词 on 的宾语,填 to improve。
69. suggest 后接动名词作宾语,即 suggest doing sth.,take → taking。
72. 由 Since that day 可知用现在完成时;主语 notes 与 keep 是被动关系,故填现在完成时的被动语态 have been kept。
73. be afraid of 害怕……;关系代词 that 作介词 of 的宾语被省略后,句末的 of 不能丢,填 of。
74. 定冠词 the 后有 in our class 表范围,用形容词最高级,lazy → laziest(辅音字母+y 结尾,变 y 为 i 加 -est)。
【知识点梳理】十空考点互不重复:①since 引导时间状语从句+现在完成时;②there used to be 句型;③“疑问词+不定式”作宾语;④suggest doing sth. 动名词作宾语;⑤by hand 介词固定搭配;⑥定语从句关系代词 which / that 指物作主语;⑦现在完成时的被动语态 have been kept;⑧定语从句中介词 of 不可省略(be afraid of);⑨形容词最高级(辅音+y 变 i 加 -est);⑩形容词变副词(wise → wisely)。Unit 1 短语 by hand;Unit 3 词 improve、review、method;Unit 4 词 memory、brain、notes。

Learn Smarter, Remember Better
Have you ever spent hours on a lesson but forgotten everything the next day? I surely have.
Last term, English words were my biggest headache. I copied each new word twenty times, yet they still disappeared from my mind the next morning. I nearly gave up.
Then my teacher shared the “linking” method with me. I began to connect each word to a funny picture — I even imagined a huge elephant sitting on the word “exam”. Silly as it was, the word stayed in my head for weeks. I also went over my notes for ten minutes every evening. Bit by bit, I made steady progress and began to enjoy learning.
Don't lose heart if your memory lets you down. Find a method that suits you, and keep using it. Work wiser, not just harder!
Work wiser, not just harder,与标题形成呼应。
常用句型:…was my biggest headache / I nearly gave up / Then sb. shared…with me / Bit by bit, I made steady progress / Don't lose heart / Find a method that suits you。Unit 3 短语 go over、make steady progress、suit;Unit 4 短语 lose heart、let sb. down、memory。

Text One
W: You always remember new English words so quickly. What's your secret, Li Lei?
M: I never copy them again and again. I put each word on a flashcard and go over them on the bus.
W: That's smart. I'll try that.
Question: How does Li Lei remember new English words?
Text Two
M: Look at this old photo, Grandma. Was this the road in front of our house?
W: Yes. It used to be narrow and muddy, and there was no bus at all.
M: But now it's wide and clean, and buses come every five minutes.
W: Everything has changed so fast.
Question: What was the road like in the past?
Text Three
W: Jack, our teacher asked us to write about a person we look up to. Have you decided?
M: Yes. I'm going to write about my aunt.
W: Your aunt? What does she do?
M: She works as a village doctor. Every week she walks for miles to visit the sick in the mountains.
W: She is really a hero.
Question: Why does Jack look up to his aunt?
Text Four
M: I find it difficult to follow the English conversations in class. What should I do?
W: Why not watch short English videos after class? It worked for me. You can also read the subtitles.
M: Thanks. I'll have a try tonight.
Question: What does the girl advise the boy to do?
Text Five
W: Our school is holding the Smart Learning Week next Monday. Will you take part in it?
M: Sure. There is a talk called “How Our Memory Works”. It starts at half past two in the school hall.
W: Great. Let's meet at the school gate at two.
Question: When will the school's Smart Learning Week begin?
Text Six
W: You have made great progress in English this term, Lin Tao. How did you do it?
M: Thank you, Miss Zhou. Actually I used to be afraid of speaking English.
W: But you are quite active in class now.
M: Yes. I started to preview the lessons before class, and I go over my notes every evening. I also set small goals for myself — ten new words a day.
W: That's a good habit. Anything else?
M: I found a website where I can practise spoken English with native speakers.
W: Really? Do you think it is a waste of time?
M: Of course not. It has opened up a whole new world to me.
Questions: 6. How does Lin Tao improve his English? 7. What does Lin Tao do on the website?
Text Seven
W: Grandpa, look! I found an old photo album in the box.
M: Oh, let me see... This one was taken in front of the old silk factory in 1985.
W: The silk factory? Is that the place where the big science park stands now?
M: Exactly. In those days hundreds of workers rode their bikes there every morning. The machines were noisy all day long, and the air smelled of hot silk.
W: It's hard to imagine. The park is so quiet and green now.
M: Yes. Everything has changed. But whenever I walk past those red-brick buildings, the old days come back to me clearly — the faces of my workmates, the sound of the whistle at noon...
W: Maybe we should take photos of the old buildings and record your stories, so that more people can keep the memory alive.
M: That's a wonderful idea!
Questions: 8. Where was the photo taken? 9. What was the silk factory like in the past? 10. What does the girl suggest doing?
Text Eight
Good morning, everyone. Welcome to “Heroes Around Us” on the school radio. Today I'd like to tell you about someone you may pass every day but never really notice — Uncle Bao, the gatekeeper of our school.
Uncle Bao is fifty-eight years old. Twenty years ago, when he came to Hangzhou from a mountain village, he could hardly speak Putonghua, let alone English. But he had always dreamed of talking with foreign visitors.
Every morning at five o'clock, he takes out his old mobile phone and listens to English programmes for half an hour. Whenever he comes across a new word, he looks it up in a small dictionary and writes it down in a notebook. He even asks students to check his pronunciation after school.
Uncle Bao says he has a poor memory, so he goes over the words whenever he is free — while waiting at the school gate, or while walking his dog. “The more I repeat, the better I remember,” he often says.
Last month, a group of foreign teachers visited our school. Uncle Bao greeted them in English and showed them the way. They were amazed and thanked him again and again.
Though he is only a gatekeeper, he is a true learner. I believe his story will inspire everyone who is listening.
Questions: 11. Who is Uncle Bao? 12. What was Uncle Bao's dream? 13. What does Uncle Bao do when he comes across a new word? 14. When does Uncle Bao go over the words? 15. What can we learn from Uncle Bao's story?

21.Why did the factory finally close in 2007?
A.It lost orders to factories with newer machines. B.A serious accident stopped the machines. C.All the workers moved to other cities. D.The government needed the land for new roads.
22.What does the underlined word “Gradually” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
23.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Silk Industry in China B.A Worker's Busy Life
C.Old Bricks, New Lives D.How to Run a Modern Studio

25.What do the villagers' words in Paragraph 3 tell us about Nan?
A.He lived a simple life and worked hard in the field.
B.He was rich but dressed badly.
C.He often got lost in the mountains.
D.He enjoyed travelling around the world.
26.What can we learn from Nan Rendong's words in the last paragraph?
A.True beauty lies in working for others. B.Scientists should travel around the world. C.Young people should study the stars. D.It is important to become famous.

29.According to the “spacing” method, when should a student first go over a word list?
A.Right before the exam. B.Five minutes after class.
C.At the weekend. D.Three days later.

This term has just begun. You may have already told yourself, “I will study harder this time.” 31.________ Working smarter, however, is another story. Here are four ideas from top students in Grade Nine.
