Here’s a look at who has won the prize and for what. Physiology or Medicine Swedish geneticist Svante Peabo won the first Nobel of the year, for starting the field of ancient DNA studies. He is well-known for extracting, sequencing, and analyzing ancient DNA from Neanderthal bones. Physics Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger’s work in quantum (量子) technology landed them the second Nobel Prize announced in 2022. Although Aspect is from France, Clauser from the U.S, and Zeilinger from Austria, the three separately performed “groundbreaking experiments” as one team. “Their results have cleared the way for new technology,” the committee stated. Chemistry The Nobel Prize for chemistry went to another trio, Carolyn R. Bertozzi from the U.S., Morten Meldal from Denmark and K. Barry Sharpless from the U.S. “for the development of click chemistry and biorthogonal chemistry,” the committee stated. Dr. Bertozzi is the eighth woman chemist to be awarded the prize, while Dr. Sharpless is the fifth scientist to be awarded two Nobel Prizes. Economics The Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to three American economists, Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig “for research on banks and financial crises,” the Nobel Prize committee announced on Monday. By studying the history of American economics, particularly the Great Depression of the 1930s,they improved how we understand the role of banks during times of hardship and the bank’s impact on societal functions. 21. What prize is related to the research with bones? A. Physiology. B. Chemistry. C. Physics. D. Economics. 22. For what study did Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig win the prize? A. About societal functions. B. About the history of America. C. About banks and financial crises. D. About the Great Depression of the 1930s. 23. What do the prizes for physics, chemistry and economics have in common? A. Their winners are from different countries. B. They have three winners. C. They improve new technology. D. They help people understand hardship. A 22. C 23. 根据第二段中“He is well-known for extracting, sequencing, and analyzing ancient DNA from Neanderthal bones.(他以从尼安德特人的骨头中提取、测序和分析古代DNA而闻名)”可知,生理学奖项与骨骼研究有关。故选A。 根据最后一段中“The Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to three American economists, Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig “for research on banks and financial crises,” the Nobel Prize committee announced on Monday.(诺贝尔奖委员会周一宣布,经济科学奖授予了三名美国经济学家, Ben S. Bernanke、Douglas W. Diamond和Philip H. Dybvig,以表彰他们“对银行和金融危机的研究”)”可知,Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond和Philip H. Dybvig凭关于银行和金融危机研究获奖。 根据第三段中“Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger’s work in quantum (量子) technology landed them the second Nobel Prize announced in 2022.( Alain Aspect、John F. Barry Sharpless from the U.S. “for the development of click chemistry and biorthogonal chemistry,” the committee stated. (诺贝尔化学奖授予了另一个三人组,来自美国的Carolyn R. Bertozzi、来自丹麦的Morten Meldal和来自美国的K. Barry Sharpless,他们“因发展了咔嗒化学和双正交化学”,委员会说)”以及最后一段中“The Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to three American economists, Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig “for research on banks and financial crises,” the Nobel Prize committee announced on Monday.(诺贝尔奖委员会周一宣布,经济科学奖授予了三名美国经济学家, Ben S. Bernanke、Douglas W. Diamond和Philip H. Dybvig,以表彰他们“对银行和金融危机的研究”)”可知,物理学奖、化学奖和经济学奖的共同之处是有三个获奖者。故选B。 B In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and concentrate on my courses. I was quickly regarded as a “brain”. I did so well that by the end of the senior year I had perfect grades and enough credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework. But in early June of the senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I gaped (目瞪口呆地凝视) at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work? I mumbled something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have ruined my perfect record. I finally agreed to a compromise. I would share the honor with five other students. And my friend Judy would then give her own, fulllength speech. Graduation day soon arrived. I’d been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the podium (讲台) without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and headed back to my seat. I accomplished something I’d never dreamed of—I spoke in front of hundreds of people. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to participate in class at college, to give verbal reports, and to eventually break free from my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation ever. But I’m glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I’m faced with the prospect of doing something I dread. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments. 24. Why was the writer called a “brain”? A. She was a bookworm all the time. B. She was the head of her small group. C. She did a good job in her studies. D. She did more coursework for good grades. 25. What can we infer from the second paragraph? A. She ruined her health because of studying hard. B. She got the reward beyond expectation. C. She was grateful for giving a speech. D. She wasn’t good at physics at school. 26. How did the author feel at the beginning of the graduation speech? A. Scared. B. Moved. C. Excited. D. Embarrassed. 27. What did the speech bring to the author at last? A. She had nothing to fear in life. B. She got rid of her sense of shyness. C. She won enough college credits. D. She desired to become a speaker. C 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第一段中的“I did so well that by the end of the senior year I had perfect grades and enough credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework. (我学业表现十分出色,到高中毕业时,我的成绩全优,学分也足够多,甚至可以免修整整一个季度的课程)”可知,作者被称为“brain(学霸)”是因为她学习成绩优异。故选C项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“I mumbled something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have ruined my perfect record. (我含糊地嘀咕了几句,便慌忙逃出了办公室,心里还在责怪自己当初躲掉了物理课 —— 这门课当初要是学了,肯定会毁掉我一直以来的全优成绩。)”可知,作者当初避开物理是因为这门课可能影响她的完美成绩,由此可推断她不擅长物理。故选D项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“I gaped at him, my heart thumping. (我目瞪口呆地看着他,心脏怦怦直跳)”以及第四段中的“I managed to reach the podium without falling down. ... My voice trembled a little (我好不容易才走上讲台,没摔倒。……我的声音有点颤抖)”可知,作者在毕业演讲刚开始时内心是紧张害怕的。故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to participate in class at college, to give verbal reports, and to eventually break free from my shyness. (这场演讲的成功完成,让我有了在大学课堂上发言、做口头报告的信心,并最终摆脱了羞怯)”可知,这场演讲最终让作者摆脱了羞怯感。故选B项。 C It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage conservators at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, despite erosion (侵蚀) by sand and wind. The team is dedicated to protecting the 45,000 square meters of murals (壁画) and more than 2,400 painted sculptures of the 735 caves of the site, the construction of which spans about a thousand years, from the 4th century to the 14th century. The cultural relics are the product of the cultural exchanges that took place over centuries on the ancient Silk Road. “Our work, repairing murals and painted sculptures, is to better preserve the caves, which promotes the great Dunhuang spirit of inclusiveness to the world and inspires modern people,” says Su Bomin, director of the Dunhuang Academy. Commonly seen “diseases” affecting the murals include cracking and flaking, as well as erosion that is caused by changes in temperature and humidity of the caves, and the deposition of salts. To restore a mural requires an all-rounder. Restorers should know painting, master the skills of a mason and have some knowledge of chemistry and physics, to be able to recognize the problems and their corresponding causes and deliver a solution. They must also select proper materials and tools, and conduct experiments, before formally carrying out the restoration and evaluating the effect afterward. The restoration should respect the original work and aim to maintain the status quo of the murals rather than repainting them. When the restorers find some parts of murals missing or fading away, they never repaint them to create a “perfect” appearance in restoration. “Cultural relics are witnesses of history,” explains Su. “When you pursue the so-called intact (完好无损的) look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.” Cave conservation is about continuously solving problems. “It needs a long-term research to better preserve the caves, over a much wider time span that goes beyond our lifetimes,” Su says. But at least, they can keep the current look of the murals for as long as possible. 28. What is the main purpose of paragraph 2? A. To show the popularity of Dunhuang murals. B. To explain the history of the ancient Silk Road. C. To stress the significance of the restoration work. D. To present the ways of protecting cultural heritage. 29. Which of the following best describes the restoration work? A. Creative. B. Well-paid. C. Interesting. D. Demanding. 30. What should restoring murals focus on according to paragraph 4? A. Spotting the faded murals in time. B. Fixing the missing parts of murals. C. Maintaining the current look of murals. D. Repainting to perfect the appearance of murals. 31. Which can be the best title for the text? A. The Artistic Charm of Mural Paintings B. The Mural Restoration in the Mogao Caves C. The Successful Experiment on Cave Conservation D. Among the stories were two dealing with direct competitions between humans and machines. In one competition, machines that used AI performed better than human beings in a high-level reading test. Two natural language processing tools beat human in the experiment. One of the tools was built by the American technology company Microsoft. The other was created by Chinese online seller Alibaba Group. In another competition, a computer took on humans in live, public debates. The event demonstrated how AI-powered computers are increasingly being developed to think ' and sound like humans. The organizer of the debates, U. S. technology company IBM, announced split results. It said a majority of those watching said they felt the machine had done more to improve their knowledge of the subject. But, the human got more praise for communicating their ideas. This year, we also explored the many ways AI and machine learning are now being used. For example, some U. S. judges use machine learning systems to help them decide when, and for how long, criminals should be jailed. The system uses computers to examine data from thousands of court cases. One fast-growing area of AI is facial recognition, which is increasingly being used for security purposes. Recently, Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport became the first in the U. s. to permit passengers to use facial recognition technology to get on flights. A Chinese company showed off an AI system it developed to recognize individuals by body shape and walking movements. The system is already being used by Chinese police in Beijing and Shanghai. In addition, machine learning was used during 2018 to predict results of the World Cup soccer competition. The technology also created artwork that sold for a large amount of money. And it is being used to help farmer save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals. Other technology systems are being used to follow farm animals and wildlife to collect information on their activities. 32. Why were the two competitions mentioned in the passage? A. To show how much better AI and machine learning are than humans. B. To prove AI and machine Learning got more praise for communication. C. To show how powerful AI and machine Learning are. D. To prove AI and machine learning have been used in the work of U. S. judges. 33. What are facial and body recognition systems used for in the passage? A. Knowledge learning. B. Safety control. C. Office automation. D. Tracking survey. 34. What can we infer from this passage? A. AI has been widely used in every person's daily life. B. Human can be replaced by AI in future completely. C. More attention is being paid to AI in every part of the world. D. More advanced Al is helping people in more and more areas. 35. Where is the text probably from? A. A technology report. B. A natural science magazine. C. A science fiction. D. A government document. 32. C 33. B 34. D 35. When you want to avoid interruptions at work(当你想要避免工作被打扰的时候)符合语境。 Tell the person you’re sorry and explain that you have a million things to do and then ask if the two of you can talk at a different time.(告诉对方你很抱歉,并解释你有很多事情要做,然后问他们是否可以在不同的时间交谈)可知,这一段主要是讲述学会在自己很忙的时候去拒绝别人。A. If you’re busy, don’t feel bad about saying no(如果你很忙,不要因为说“不”而感到不好意思)符合语境。故选A。 When people try to interrupt you, have set hours planned and let them know to come back during that time or that you’ll find them then.(当人们试图打扰你的时候,给他们设定好时间计划,让他们知道在这段时间内回来或者你会找到他们)及下文It can help to eliminate E. It’s important that you let them know when you’ll be available(让他们知道你什么时候有空是很重要的)符合语境。 When you need to talk to someone, don’t do it in your own office.(当你需要和别人交谈时,不要在你自己的办公室里)及下文it’s much easier to excuse yourself to get back to your work than if you try to get someone out of your space even after explaining how busy you are.(找借口回去工作要比在解释完自己有多忙后还试图让别人离开你的空间要容易得多)可知, it指代前文don’t do it in your own office. If you’re busy, don’t feel bad about saying no(如果你很忙,不要因为说“不”而感到不好意思)符合语境。故选A。 It was a cold winter day. When David passed them, he heard the woman yell, “How stupid you are You’re good at nothing.” David stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset. David was reminded of his English teacher Mrs. Brown in middle school. After he entered middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was told that he was good at nothing, which David believed. But one day it all changed. In an English writing class, Mrs. Brown asked them to read a novel and write a new essay for the novel after finishing reading. A few days later, David handed in his story. He didn’t give it much thought. But the next day, to his surprise, the comment “well done” from Mrs. Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When David saw that, he almost burst into tears. He never expected to be praised one day. He suddenly gained some self-confidence. That day, after he returned home he wrote a short story and gave it to Mrs. Brown the next morning. And again he was praised. David became very interested in writing. He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs. Brown to read and correct them for him. Mrs. Brown always pointed out the mistakes he had made and gave him good advice to improve them. One year later, David joined the school newspaper and became an editor of it. He was no longer the boy who lacked self-confidence. He gained his confidence and was hopeful about his future. He succeeded in entering college and kept writing. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published. With more books coming out, he became famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs. Brown’s encouragement. B In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and concentrate on my courses. C It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage conservators at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, despite erosion (侵蚀) by sand and wind. The Role of the Dunhuang Spirit in Chinese Culture D There was a lot of news related to artificial intelligence, or AI, and machine learning. D. Last Saturday, David was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about eight years old. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now: 注意: 1. Paragraph 1: Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The mother was ashamed when she heard that _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
