On the first day of senior high school, Zhang Wei got lost three times.
He had looked at the school map the night before and even drawn it in his notebook. But in the morning, all the buildings looked the same: grey walls, green windows, and long corridors that turned in every direction.
His first class was English, in Room 305. He walked into Room 302 by mistake. A teacher looked up and said kindly, "Room 305 is one floor above." When he finally sat down, his face was red.
At lunch, he could not find his meal card. He searched his bag, his pockets, and the floor under his desk. A girl with short hair saw him and asked, "Are you new? You can use mine first." Her name was Lin Yue, and they ate together by the window.
In the afternoon, a club fair was held on the playground. Zhang Wei walked past the tables slowly. He stopped at the Hiking Club, where a boy was showing photos of a mountain at sunrise. "We leave at six in the morning," the boy said. "It's hard, but you'll never forget it." Zhang Wei wrote down his name.
When the last bell rang, he stood at the school gate, tired but smiling. He had got lost, missed a turn, and forgotten his card. But he had also found a friend and a club that he really wanted to join. "Maybe that's what the first day is for," he thought.
24. How did Zhang Wei feel before the first day?

Exercise: Good for the Body, Better for the Brain
We all know that exercise is good for the body. But scientists are finding that it is just as important for the brain — especially for students.
When you run, swim or even walk fast, your heart beats faster and more blood goes to your head. That blood carries oxygen and nutrients. In one study, students who exercised for twenty minutes before a test remembered more words than those who sat quietly. Another study found that teenagers who exercised regularly slept better and felt less anxious.
Exercise also seems to help the brain grow. In animals, researchers have seen new connections forming between brain cells after weeks of running. Something similar may happen in humans. "Exercise is like a workout for the brain," one researcher said. "It does not make you clever, but it prepares the brain to learn."
How much exercise is enough? The World Health Organization suggests that teenagers get at least sixty minutes of exercise a day. That sounds like a lot, but it does not have to be a sport. Walking to school, cycling to the shop, or playing basketball with friends all count.
Some students say they are too busy to exercise. But exercise may actually save time. After a short walk, many people find it easier to focus on their homework. In other words, twenty minutes of movement can turn an hour of staring at a page into an hour of real work.
So the next time you feel tired or stuck, stand up and move. Your brain may thank you.
28. What happens to the brain during exercise?
A. It gets more blood. B. It stops working.
C. It becomes smaller. D. It needs less oxygen.
29. How much exercise does the WHO suggest for teenagers?
A. Thirty minutes a week. B. Sixty minutes a day.
C. A hundred minutes a week. D. Two hours a day.
30. What does the writer suggest for busy students?
A. Giving up exercise. B. Walking or cycling instead of taking a bus.
C. Studying late at night. D. Sleeping less.
31. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Exercise is good for the brain. B. How to run faster.
C. Why students are always tired. D. The history of the Olympic Games.

Slow Travel: See Less, Feel More
When most people plan a trip, they make a long list: five cities in seven days, six museums in one afternoon, a photo in front of every famous building. They come home tired, with hundreds of pictures and very few memories.
Slow travel is the opposite. Instead of visiting many places, slow travellers choose one or two, and stay longer. They rent a small flat, shop at the local market, and eat where the neighbours eat. They may spend a whole morning in a single square, watching the light change.
The idea is not new. Long before cheap flights, people travelled for months, not days. What is new is the reason. Today, many travellers are worried about the environment. A flight across the world adds a lot of carbon to the air. Staying in one place, taking trains, and eating local food all leave a smaller footprint.
Slow travel also changes what you bring home. "I don't remember the museums," one traveller said. "I remember the baker who gave me bread every morning, and the old man who taught me three words of his language."
You do not need to fly to another country to travel slowly. A town two hours away can be a new world if you stay for three days instead of three hours. Put away your list. Sit down. Order a coffee. Let the place come to you.
32. What is "slow travel"?
A. Travelling by slow trains. B. Staying longer in fewer places.
C. Visiting famous sites quickly. D. Travelling with old people.
33. What is one benefit of slow travel mentioned in the text?
A. It costs nothing. B. It helps you understand local life.
C. It is always safe. D. It needs no planning.
34. What does the underlined word "footprint" probably mean?
A. The mark of a foot. B. The damage to the environment.
C. The size of a shoe. D. The cost of a trip.
35. What does the writer advise travellers to do?
A. Take more photos. B. Eat and shop where local people do.
C. Visit as many cities as possible. D. Fly to faraway countries.
第二节 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
How to Plan a Trip
Planning a trip can be exciting, but it can also be stressful. Here are five steps that may help you.
36. ______ Before you look at tickets, ask yourself what you really want. Do you want to rest, to learn something, or to see old friends? Your answer will decide where you go and how long you stay.
37. ______ A place can be wonderful in one season and miserable in another. Check the weather, the holidays, and the price of hotels. If you can, travel in the "shoulder season" — the weeks just before or after the busiest time.
38. ______ The cheapest tickets often disappear months before the trip. Book your train or plane early, and write down the dates in your phone. If you are travelling with others, make sure everyone agrees before you pay.
39. ______ A plan with no free time is not a plan; it is a race. Leave one afternoon empty. You may discover a market, a park, or a small restaurant that no guidebook mentions.
40. ______ A trip is not a test. If it rains, if a museum is closed, if you get lost — these are part of the journey. Take a deep breath and enjoy what is in front of you.
A. Choose the right time.
B. Decide what kind of trip you want.
C. Leave some free time.
D. Stay calm when things go wrong.
E. Book early.
F. Take a friend with you.
G. Pack as light as you can.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Amy had never been good at sports. In PE class, she was always the last one to finish a run, and she had learned to laugh about it before anyone else could. So when the sign-up sheet for the school sports meeting was passed around, she did not touch it.
But her best friend, Jenny, had other ideas. "You've been running every morning for a month," Jenny said. "I've seen you. Just try the 800 metres." Amy shook her head. "I'll come last." "So what?" Jenny said. "At least you'll finish."
For three weeks, Amy got up at six and ran around the playground. Some mornings her legs hurt so much that she had to stop and walk. But she kept going. On the day of the sports meeting, the sun was hot and the playground was full of noise. Amy stood at the starting line, her hands cold.
The gun went off. For the first lap, Amy was surprised to find herself in the middle of the group. People were cheering, and for a moment she felt strong. Then the second lap began. The stronger runners pulled away. Her breathing became heavy. Her legs felt like stone, and a voice in her head kept saying, "Stop. Nobody will care."
Then, from the stand, she heard her name. Jenny was standing on a chair, waving both arms. Next to her, three classmates were shouting together. Amy looked at the finish line, far away, and at the faces in the stand, much closer.

Dear Chris,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time in your new school. I felt the same way last year, so I understand how you feel.
Here are a few suggestions. First, talk to one or two classmates every day — a short conversation can make a big difference. Second, make a simple plan for your homework and finish the hardest task first. Third, keep doing something you enjoy, such as running or drawing, to help you relax.
Take your time. Things will get better soon.

Halfway through the second lap, Amy's legs felt like stone. The voice in her head grew louder: Stop, stop, stop. She slowed to a walk, her eyes on the ground. Then Jenny's voice cut through the noise: "Amy! Look up!" She raised her head. Her classmates were clapping in rhythm and calling her name. Something warm rose in her chest. She began to run again, slowly at first, then faster. The finish line was no longer far away.
Paragraph 2:
When she finally crossed the finish line, she almost fell into Jenny's arms. She was the last runner, but the whole class was on its feet, cheering as if she had won gold. Someone handed her a bottle of water; someone else put a hand on her shoulder. Amy looked back at the track and smiled.
