In picigin, five players stand in a circle and keep a ball from touching the water by batting it with their hands. While there are no strict rules, the game is now considered an immaterial cultural good of Croatia. Beikou in China Beikou, a ball-and-stick sport, has been played for over 1,000 years by the Daur people of Inner Mongolia. Two teams attempt to pass a ball made of wood, root or cattle hair over the opposition’s back boundary to score points. If played at night, a ball made of dried mushrooms is filled with pine (松树) oil and lit on fire for better visibility. The rules are flexible, but in general, players cannot steal or strike from the left, nor hit or trip other players, and only the goalkeeper can catch the ball with their hands or feet. Petanque in France Similar to lawn bowling, petanque was invented in Provence in the early 1900s. In petanque, two teams consisting of up to three players must throw metal balls as close as possible to a target ball, usually in public squares or parks. Petanque can be played on uneven surfaces like sand. Abula in Nigeria In abula, a Nigerian ball game, eight players use wooden bats to hit a ball over a net. Inspired by the principles of a balanced diet, the game was created at a high school in the 1980s to help students meet all their fitness requirements (running, jumping, etc.) in one activity. Hence, it was named after abula, a traditional Nigerian dish. 21. Where can you find a game with a burning ball? A. In Croatia. B. In Nigeria. C. In France. D. In China. 22. What was the original purpose of abula? A. To train professional players. B. To replace other sports in school. C. To make students exercise fully. D. To help students have a balanced diet. 23. What do the four games have in common? A. They are played in parks. B. They are team sports. C. They use metal balls. D. They have no rules. B Today, at 57, I am the most confident I’ve ever been. I truly believe I can achieve anything, but it wasn’t always easy for me to believe in myself. My mother was very critical; she’d tell me to put on makeup or slim down. If I wanted to pursue modeling, she’d tell me to give it up. My dad, though, planted seeds of confidence in me. He taught me, “When you wake up, you choose to have a good day or a bad day.” That stuck with me. In 2009, my husband and I moved to Costa Rica. We’ve owned restaurants in New York City for 18 years. About five years ago, a business partner called and said he didn’t like the coffee in our restaurants. Since I lived in Costa Rica, could I supply great coffee? I didn’t know much about coffee, but I told him I’d do it. I soon learned that Costa Rica has high pesticide (农药) use and many coffee farmers live on the poverty line. This troubled me — I wanted the coffee to align with my values of environmental care and economic equality. I called our restaurant partner back and said, “I’ll get you amazing organic coffee, and I also want to restructure the coffee industry.” Three years ago, I launched Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, partnering with farmers who practice regenerative farming. Our Costa Rican farmers are now recognized for producing delicious coffee without harming the planet. I can proudly say we ship regenerative coffee to restaurants and people all over the world. My dad gave me the greatest inheritance (遗产): self-love and faith in myself. He also told me, “Keep your thinking fresh — your thoughts can get old.” You can look in the mirror and say, “I’ve aged to be 57, my skin is sagging (松弛),” or you can say, “Wow, I have 57 years of knowledge and experience.” 24. How did the author react to the partner’s statement? A. She turned a deaf ear to it. B. She determined to solve the problem. C. She questioned whether he told the truth. D. She decided to stop cooperating with him. 25. What does the underlined phrase “align with” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Contribute to. B. Transform. C. Match. D. Associate with. 26. What can we infer about Buena Vida Specialty Coffee? A. It has obtained international certification. B. It prioritizes sustainability and farmer welfare. C. It took off due to the author’s expertise in coffee. D. It develops innovative flavors to attract consumers. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. Think Young Thoughts B. Build a Successful Coffee Brand C. Age Gracefully in a New Land D. Overcome Mom’s Criticism to Shine C Summer in New England means fried seafood and oysters (牡蛎) freshly taken out of their shells. But there’s a problem. Those empty shells usually end up in a garbage bin instead of back in the water, where they play a key role in the oyster life cycle. Oyster larvae (幼虫) attach to shells, growing into adults and forming reefs (礁) that improve water quality and create habitat for other sea life. Two men in Connecticut are working to fix that. They’ve started a statewide program to collect abandoned shells from local restaurants, dry them and return them to Long Island Sound for restoration projects. “We fill that missing piece,” said Tim Macklin, co-founder of Collective Oyster Recycling & Restoration. The Connecticut group is smaller but growing. In 2024, it collected about 375,000 pounds of shells and is on track to surpass 400,000 pounds this year. What sets their effort apart is that it’s essentially a two-man operation. Tim Macklin and Todd Koehnke, who founded the project, do most of the day-to-day work. Mr. Macklin and Mr. Koehnke became involved in oyster shell recycling about a decade ago. In 2023, they secured $400,000 in state funding, allowing them to leave their jobs and invest in their initiative. Collective Oyster Recycling & Restoration supplies restaurants with containers for abandoned shells, which are picked up weekly. The shells are transported to a storage site and sit for at least six months to kill harmful bacteria. When the weather warms, the shells are returned to restoration sites. Bryan Hurlburt, the state’s agriculture director, said it was too early to measure the impact. Still, he’s optimistic about the program’s potential to support the environment and the long-term practicality of the state’s aquaculture industry. Dan Meiser, who owns Oyster Club, said, “The shells are collected in the kitchen, and customers learn about the recycling effort.” 28. What is the problem mentioned in the text? A. Fried seafood is not popular in New England in summer. B. Oyster larvae can hardly find food in polluted seawater. C. Oyster reefs are destroying the living space of other sea creatures. D. Empty oyster shells are thrown away rather than returned to the sea. 29. Which word best describes Macklin and Koehnke in their recycling work? A. Ambitious. B. Committed. C. Conservative. D. Demanding. 30. What does paragraph 4 mainly discuss? A. The group’s oyster shell recycling steps. B. Challenges in the group’s shell transport. C. The best time to return shells to restoration sites. D. The group’s active cooperation with local restaurants. 31. What does Hurlburt expect of the program? A. It will swiftly bring benefits to oyster farming. B. It may involve lots of customers in shell recycling. C. It may have a far-reaching impact on the environment. D. It will become the main way to restore oyster populations. D On a sunny day, buildings absorb much of the sun’s radiation and quickly heat up. Now, researchers from the USA, China, Singapore and Sweden have succeeded in creating a variety of advanced thin metamaterials which not only block solar radiation but also emit (散发) heat, hence lowering the indoor temperature. One of the materials can be brushed as paint. “A roof painted with the specially designed material maintained an indoor temperature 5.6 degrees lower than another building painted with conventional white paint,” says Max Yan, Associate Professor at Umea University and co-author of the study published in Nature. Metamaterials are artificially engineered materials with properties that are superior to those found in natural materials. Developing cooling metamaterials has previously been a time-consuming process where researchers had to rely on trial and error. The new method is based on artificial intelligence (AI), which in just a few days can generate thousands of complex structures with the desired properties of reflecting solar radiation and emitting thermal radiation (热辐射). The best candidates are then identified in terms of mass producibility and cost. The new paint can provide significant energy savings by reducing the need for air conditioning. Calculations show that if the paint is applied to the roof of a typical four-storey apartment building with a roof area of 780 square metres in Bangkok, it could save about 12,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. In addition to being used on buildings, the new paint can be applied to other objects, such as cars, trains, or machines. In the longer term, the technology might be used for adjusting the climate on a global scale (范围). “Will massive application of this type of radiative cooling metamaterial help to slow down global warming? I have not spent much time on this question, but I would say it is worth investigating,”says Max Yan. In countries with cold winters, like Sweden, the AI approach can be adapted to design thin materials or paint that can help preserve heat in buildings. 32. What does Max Yan’s research focus on? A. Comparing the effects of different paint. B. Using AI to analyse building materials. C. Upgrading the traditional white paint. D. Designing materials to cool buildings 33. What is an advantage of the new method mentioned in paragraph 3? A. It is cost-effective. B. It is more efficient. C. It involves simpler processes. D. It uses eco-friendly materials. 34. What does the example of the apartment building in Bangkok illustrate? A. The effectiveness of the new paint. B. The demand for cooling in hot climates. C. The primary market for the new product. D. The urgent need to reduce electricity cost. 35. Why does the author mention Sweden in the last paragraph? A. To credit a research partner in the study. B. To propose a better solution to extreme weather. C. To reveal the AI method’s broader potential. D. To highlight a major limitation of the AI-created paint. What can students do to get summer jobs? A summer job is a rite of passage (重大事件) for many teens. ____36____ Still, there are things students can do to boost their future finances by making themselves more employable. Here are some ideas. ____37____ Teenagers are good at picking up new skills, and the internet provides unlimited learning tools. Becoming proficient (精通) in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel and presentation programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint will give them something to add to their resume. Learning how to build websites can be valuable and could lead to part-time work. Volunteer. ____38____ It’s a chance to learn new skills and help out. By getting out of the house and interacting with others, students can build a network and the more people who know they are looking for work, the better the chance they will hear about an opportunity. Learn to cook. Knowing how to cook is a huge money saver and an essential life skill. Think of the money a student can save by cooking a simple meal rather than ordering takeout through Uber Eats. For instance, a twice-weekly order at $20 a pop adds up to almost $1,300 over the course of an eight-month school year. ____39____ Take a money management course. Understanding basic money skills can have a huge impact on teens' future financial security. Knowing the basics means they can take advantage of the various tax-advantaged accounts, stay on top of debt and invest savings. ____40____ One excellent course is provided by McGill University. It’s a free, online, self-directed course that is broken down into eight sections. A. Get certified. B. Learn an employable skill. C. There are plenty of resources out there. D. She had bought it in April and had spent the last months of school looking forward to the day she could wear it to the beach. Today was meant to be that day. Each summer, Elizabeth’s brother David and his friends spent time on the beach. Elizabeth and her friend Nicole asked him to take them, but he always refused, saying they were too young. This year, their mom persuaded David to take Elizabeth and Nicole along, and he finally agreed. But on the day of the trip, Nicole got a cold. “Ahh-choo! I can't go. Ahhhhhhh-choo!” Nicole sniffled (不停地抽鼻子) over the phone. Elizabeth’s heart sank — she’d been looking forward to their beach day for so long, but now Nicole had fallen ill. On the phone, Elizabeth could tell Nicole was just as disappointed as she was. Eager to help Nicole get better soon, Elizabeth had an idea: chicken soup! Whenever she had a cold, Mom would make her some. So Elizabeth decided to make a pot for Nicole — she hoped this warm soup would not only help Nicole feel better, but also cheer her up a little. With a sense of purpose, Elizabeth rode her bike to the store despite the heat. She used her pocket money to buy a chicken, ginger and onions. She asked the shop owner to cut the chicken into pieces. As she rode back home, she imagined how happy Nicole would be when she tasted the soup. Once home, Elizabeth started making the soup. She didn’t want to bother Mom, so she decided to do it on her own — after all, she had watched Mom make it before. She took out a big pot, filled it with some water, then washed the chicken pieces and put them into the pot. She turned on the stove burner to heat the water. But then she got stuck. She couldn’t remember when Mom usually added the ginger and onions, or how much of each she put in. She realized she had to ask Mom for help. When Mom learned Elizabeth was making chicken soup, she was surprised. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Elizabeth brought the soup to Nicole’s house. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027学年高三英语试题(二) (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 考生注意: 1. What are the speakers talking about? October 20th. 19. What will happen if the essay is late? A. The teacher won’t grade it at all. B. The student can resubmit next week. C. The teacher will send it back within a day. 20. What formatting rule is mentioned for the essay? A. Use Comic Sans font. B. List references in the order used. C. Use size 12 font for the main text. B 19. A 20. I want to explain a few things about your essay. First of all, the deadline for this essay is October the 18th. Not the 19th, not two days later because your dog was ill or your computer broke — the 18th. If it’s late, I won’t mark it. I won’t even read it-you’ll fail the assignment! So, please hand it in on time. You can email me the essays. I’ll reply to say I’ve got it. If I don’t reply within a day, it might mean I didn’t get it, so please email me again to make sure. You can also bring a paper copy of the essay to my office, but let’s be kind to the trees, OK? Email is better for the trees and for me. Don’t forget that you must reference every idea or quote you use that isn’t your own idea. And the last page of your essay should be a list of all the books you used, in alphabetical order, not in the order you used them! And lastly, make it easy for me to read! That means using a clear font. Arial is best, but Times New Roman is fine too. Not Comic Sans please! Size 12 font for the essay, and size 14 for the titles and subheadings. And use page numbers. Any questions? A Four Distinctive Games Picigin in Croatia Picigin was created in 1908 by a group of students who were struggling to play water polo (水球). D 22. C 23. 根据Beikou in China部分中“If played at night, a ball made of dried mushrooms is filled with pine (松树) oil and lit on fire for better visibility.(如果在夜间进行比赛,由干蘑菇制成的球会灌入松油并点燃,以获得更好的能见度。)” 根据最后一段中“Inspired by the principles of a balanced diet, the game was created at a high school in the 1980s to help students meet all their fitness requirements (running, jumping, etc.) in one activity.(受均衡饮食理念启发,这项运动于20世纪80年代在一所高中被创立,用来帮助学生在一项活动中完成全部健身要求(跑、跳等)。)” 根据Picigin in Croatia部分中“In picigin, five players stand in a circle and keep a ball from touching the water by batting it with their hands.(进行皮西金球游戏时,五名选手站成一圈,用手击球,不让球落入水中。)”、Beikou in China部分中“Two teams attempt to pass a ball made of wood, root or cattle hair over the opposition’s back boundary to score points.(两队球员要把用木头、树根或牛毛制成的球打过对方的后方边界来得分。)”、Petanque in France部分中“In petanque, two teams consisting of up to three players must throw metal balls as close as possible to a target ball, usually in public squares or parks.(在法式滚球运动中,由最多三名队员组成的两支队伍,需要将金属球尽可能投到目标小球旁边,比赛一般在公共广场或公园进行。)”、Abula in Nigeria部分中“In abula, a Nigerian ball game, eight players use wooden bats to hit a ball over a net.(阿布拉球是尼日利亚的一项球类运动,八名选手使用木拍将球击过球网。)” B Today, at 57, I am the most confident I’ve ever been. Overcome Mom’s Criticism to Shine 【答案】24. B 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第二段“Since I lived in Costa Rica, could I supply great coffee? I didn’t know much about coffee, but I told him I’d do it. (既然我住在哥斯达黎加,能不能由我供应优质咖啡?我对咖啡了解不多,但我告诉他我会去做。)”可知,作者下定决心去解决这个难题。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“I soon learned that Costa Rica has high pesticide (农药) use and many coffee farmers live on the poverty line. This troubled me — I wanted the coffee to align with my values of environmental care and economic equality. (我很快了解到哥斯达黎加农药使用量很大,许多咖啡农民生活在贫困线上。这困扰着我——我想要这款咖啡align with我保护环境和经济平等的价值观。)”可知,此处表达咖啡事业要和自己的价值观相契合、相匹配,与C选项“Match.(匹配,符合。)”含义一致。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“This troubled me — I wanted the coffee to align with my values of environmental care and economic equality. (这困扰着我——我想要这款咖啡符合我保护环境和经济平等的价值观。)”以及第四段“Three years ago, I launched Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, partnering with farmers who practice regenerative farming. Our Costa Rican farmers are now recognized for producing delicious coffee without harming the planet. (三年前,我创立了布埃纳·维达精品咖啡品牌,和实行再生农业的农户展开合作。如今,我们这些哥斯达黎加的农户,因既能产出美味咖啡、又不破坏地球环境而广受认可。)”可知,该品牌重视可持续发展和农民的利益。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“He also told me, ‘Keep your thinking fresh — your thoughts can get old.’ (他还告诉我:‘保持思维鲜活——你的思想是会变老的。’)”可知,文章核心是父亲的忠告:要保持年轻鲜活的思想。A选项“Think Young Thoughts (保持年轻的思维)”能概括全文主旨,适合作标题。 C Summer in New England means fried seafood and oysters (牡蛎) freshly taken out of their shells. D 29. B 30. A 31. 根据第一段中“But there’s a problem. Those empty shells usually end up in a garbage bin instead of back in the water, where they play a key role in the oyster life cycle. (但这里有个问题。那些空的贝壳通常最终被扔进垃圾桶,而不是回到水中,而它们在牡蛎的生命周期中起着关键作用。)”可知,文中提到的问题是空牡蛎壳被扔掉而不是被放回海里。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“What sets their effort apart is that it’s essentially a two-man operation. 根据第四段“Collective Oyster Recycling & Restoration supplies restaurants with containers for abandoned shells, which are picked up weekly. The shells are transported to a storage site and sit for at least six months to kill harmful bacteria. When the weather warms, the shells are returned to restoration sites. (“牡蛎集体回收与修复”组织为餐厅提供废弃牡蛎壳的收集容器,这些容器每周会被回收一次。这些贝壳被运送到储存地点,至少存放六个月以杀灭有害细菌。天气转暖后,贝壳将被送回生态修复点)”可知,本段主要讨论了该小组进行牡蛎壳回收的具体步骤,包括提供容器、收集、运输、储存和送回恢复地点的过程。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Still, he’s optimistic about the program’s potential to support the environment and the long-term practicality of the state’s aquaculture industry. (尽管如此,他对该计划的环保潜力以及该州水产养殖业的长期实用性仍持乐观态度)”可知,Hurlburt期望该项目可能对环境产生深远的影响。 D On a sunny day, buildings absorb much of the sun’s radiation and quickly heat up. D 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Now, researchers from the USA, China, Singapore and Sweden have succeeded in creating a variety of advanced thin metamaterials which not only block solar radiation but also emit (散发) heat, hence lowering the indoor temperature. (现在,来自美国、中国、新加坡和瑞典的研究人员已经成功制造出多种先进的薄型超材料,这些材料不仅能阻挡太阳辐射,还能散发热量,从而降低室内温度。)”以及第二段““A roof painted with the specially designed material maintained an indoor temperature 5.6 degrees lower than another building painted with conventional white paint,” says Max Yan, Associate Professor at Umea University and co-author of the study published in Nature.(于默奥大学副教授、发表在《自然》杂志上的这项研究的合著者Max Yan表示:涂刷了这种特殊定制材料的屋顶,室内温度比另一栋涂刷普通白色涂料的建筑低 5.6 摄氏度。)” 根据第三段“Developing cooling metamaterials has previously been a time-consuming process where researchers had to rely on trial and error. The new method is based on artificial intelligence (AI), which in just a few days can generate thousands of complex structures with the desired properties of reflecting solar radiation and emitting thermal radiation (热辐射). (此前,开发冷却超材料是一个耗时的过程,研究人员不得不依靠反复试验。这种新方法基于人工智能,只需几天时间就能生成数千种具有反射太阳辐射和发射热辐射所需特性的复杂结构。)”可知,传统方法耗时且依赖试错,新方法比传统方法更高效。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The new paint can provide significant energy savings by reducing the need for air conditioning. Calculations show that if the paint is applied to the roof of a typical four-storey apartment building with a roof area of 780 square metres in Bangkok, it could save about 12,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. (这种新涂料可以通过减少对空调的需求来节省大量能源。计算表明,如果将该涂料涂在曼谷一栋典型的四层公寓楼的屋顶上(屋顶面积为780平方米),每年可节省约12000千瓦时的电力。)”可知,作者举曼谷公寓楼的例子是为了说明这种新涂料在实际应用中的节能效果,即证明其有效性。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“In countries with cold winters, like Sweden, the AI approach can be adapted to design thin materials or paint that can help preserve heat in buildings. (在像瑞典这样冬季寒冷的国家,人工智能方法可以被改造用于设计能够帮助建筑物保温的薄型材料或涂料。)”可知,作者提到瑞典是为了说明这种方法不仅可以用于降温,还可以改造用于保温用途,从而揭示人工智能方法具有更广泛的应用潜力。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 What can students do to get summer jobs? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 When Mom learned Elizabeth was making chicken soup, she was surprised. Knowing Elizabeth wanted to comfort her sick friend, Mom smiled and offered patient guidance. She told Elizabeth the right time to add ginger and onions and reminded her to keep the soup simmering gently over low heat. Following Mom’s instructions, Elizabeth finished cooking the warm, tasty soup. She carefully poured the soup into a heat‑preserving container and packed it nicely with a paper napkin. Though she would miss the beach trip and her brand-new bathing suit, she felt excited about visiting Nicole. She even grabbed a small spoon, so Nicole could taste it right away. Elizabeth brought the soup to Nicole’s house. Nicole was deeply moved, and her eyes lit up with surprise. They sat and chatted happily on the sofa, talking about their planned beach day. Nicole tasted the soup and praised it greatly, saying it warmed her whole body. Although Elizabeth didn’t get to wear her new bathing suit on the beach that day, she gained something more precious. Real care for friends brought her much joy, which made this summer afternoon far more unforgettable than any beach adventure. 词汇激活 行为类 ①安慰,抚慰:comfort/soothe/console ②提供某人某物:offer sb sth/provide sb with sth 情绪类 ①感动的:moved/touched ②喜悦:joy/delight/pleasure 【点睛】[高分句型1] Though she would miss the beach trip and her brand-new bathing suit, she felt excited about visiting Nicole. (运用了though引导的让步状语从句) [高分句型2] Real care for friends brought her much joy, which made this summer afternoon far more unforgettable than any beach adventure.
