B The Woman Who Saves Seeds
For forty years, Auntie Guo has been collecting seeds of old vegetables. She started in her small village when she saw farmers using fewer and fewer kinds of seeds. “Once a seed is lost, it is lost forever,” she said.
Every autumn, Guo walks through the villages. She talks to old farmers, gets their best seeds, and plants them in her own small garden. She writes down when each seed sprouts, how tall the plant grows, and how it tastes. Her notebooks fill a whole shelf.
Life was not easy. Once, a heavy rain destroyed her garden. She sat in the mud and cried. But the next spring, she started again. Now, Guo has saved more than two hundred old kinds of vegetables. Some of them are now planted by farmers across the country.
“I am not a famous scientist,” she says, “but every seed is a story. I just want to keep the stories alive.”
59. When did Guo start collecting seeds?
A. Forty years ago. B. Ten years ago. C. Last year. D. When she was ten.
60. Why did Guo start her work?
A. Because farmers used fewer and fewer kinds of seeds. B. Because she wanted to be famous. C. Because she sold seeds for money. D. Because she lost her garden.
61. What does the underlined word “sprouts” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. 发芽 B. 结果 C. 枯萎 D. 开花
62. What can we learn from Guo's story?
A. Persistence can keep valuable things alive. B. Farming is easy.
C. Rain always helps gardens. D. Villages are boring.
C Satellites: Our Helpers in the Sky
Look up at the night sky. You may see a bright star moving slowly. It is not a star — it may be a man-made satellite. Today, thousands of satellites are travelling around the Earth.
What do satellites do? First, they help us watch the weather. When a big storm is coming, satellites take pictures from space and tell us early. Second, they make GPS work. Satellites show your phone where you are and guide you to your destination. Third, they carry TV and phone signals across the world. Without them, you could not watch a live football match from another country.
Building a satellite is not easy. It must work in cold space for years. Engineers test every part hundreds of times. When a satellite is too old, it may fall back to the Earth and burn up in the air.
In the future, satellites will help more — they may even guide driverless cars. We depend on them more than we know.
63. What may a moving bright star in the night sky be?
A. A man-made satellite. B. The moon. C. A plane. D. A shooting star.
64. Which is NOT a job of satellites according to Paragraph 2?
A. Watching the weather. B. Making GPS work.
C. Carrying TV signals. D. Growing vegetables.
65. What happens to an old satellite according to Paragraph 3?
A. It may fall back to the Earth and burn up. B. It stays in space forever.
C. It becomes a real star. D. It is sold to another country.
66. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Satellites will be less useful in the future. B. We depend on satellites more than we know.
C. Satellites are cheap to build. D. Only scientists use satellites.
D Why Do Curious People Learn Better?
Have you ever wondered why some students always do better? New research says it may have to do with curiosity.
Scientists studied two groups of students. Both groups read the same science text. But the first group was asked to write down three questions they wanted to know before reading. The second group just read. Two days later, the students took a test. The first group remembered 18 percent more than the second. Their brains were more active, because curiosity made them want to find answers.
The study also found that curiosity helps for a long time. Students who asked questions often remembered things longer, even in difficult subjects like history and chemistry. The brain, it seems, treats a curious question like a gift waiting to be opened.
How can we become more curious? Try to ask “why” and “how” every day. Why do leaves turn yellow? How does a phone take photos? Small questions open big doors.
67. What did the first group do before reading the text?
A. They wrote down three questions. B. They took a test.
C. They watched a film. D. They slept for a while.
68. How much more did the first group remember two days later?
A. 18 percent more. B. 80 percent more. C. 30 percent less. D. The same as the second group.
69. What does the brain treat a curious question like according to Paragraph 3?
A. A gift waiting to be opened. B. A difficult test.
C. A heavy stone. D. A boring game.
70. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Why Do Curious People Learn Better? B. How to Get High Marks.
C. History Is Boring. D. Sleeping Well Is Important.
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Why do we admire scientists so much? There are many reasons.
First, scientists are brave. They often work in difficult places — cold mountains, deep seas and hot deserts. Their work is sometimes dangerous, but they keep going for knowledge. Second, scientists are patient. A chemist may repeat an experiment a thousand times before it works. They never give up after one failure. Third, scientists are honest. When an experiment fails, they tell people the truth, not a pretty lie.
Besides, scientists help everyone. The medicine we take, the phones we use, and the trains we ride all come from their years of hard work. They do not work for money only — they work for people's lives. They also spend years reading and thinking, even when no one is watching them.
Of course, not every one of us will become a scientist. But we can all learn from them: be brave, be patient, and be honest. We do not need to be great; we just need to keep trying in our own way. That is why scientists are heroes in our hearts.
71. What kind of places do scientists often work in?

72. Why does the passage say scientists are patient?

I always keep this question in mind: Who inspires me most? The answer is my grandma, a retired biology teacher.
Grandma used to teach in a village school for thirty years. She often walked miles to visit her students on weekends. Once, she paid for a poor student's books herself, and that student is now a doctor. When I feel lazy, grandma tells me: small steps, taken every day, lead far. I have decided to keep a study plan like her.
