Research shows that daily foods are loaded with natural compounds (化合物) that help ease pain, protect against disease, and keep your body running smoothly. Here are some of the inflammation-fighting foods worth adding to your plate. Dark chocolate Yes, you read that correctly. Dark chocolate contains chemicals and anti-oxidants (抗氧化物) that help fight inflammation. According to a large Italian study, people who ate about one square of dark chocolate every three days had significantly lower measures of a protein associated with inflammation than those who ate no chocolate at all. Green and black tea Tea is rich in anti-oxidants called flavonoids, which may help protect cells from damage that can worsen conditions like arthritis (关节炎). It also contains compounds that fight inflammation, making green tea a great choice to your morning coffee. Both green and black teas come from the same plant — the differences are in where they’re grown and how they’ re processed. Soy protein Research has shown that people with arthritis, especially men, who consumed 40 grams of soy protein per day for three months experienced less pain and improved mobility compared with those who didn’t. While it’s difficult to get that much soy protein from food alone, adding a serving of soybeans, tofu, or soy milk is still worthwhile. Avocados Although the window for perfect ripeness is small, avocados are highly recommended — they’re packed with nutrients. Compounds such as carotenoids and tocopherols help fight inflammation and may even lower cancer risk. Interestingly, research suggests that the healthiest part of an avocado is often the part that gets deserted. 1. What will be the result of eating dark chocolate? A. It makes you get fatter and fatter. B. The more you eat it, the better. C. It can help build bones and muscles. D. A certain regular amount is beneficial. 2. If you feel less mobile, which food is advisable? A. Dark chocolate. B. Green and black tea. C. Soy protein. D. Avocados. 3. What do green tea and avocados have in common? A. Both of their best part is unwisely thrown away. B Virginia “Ginger” Hislop, 105, recently walked the stage at Stanford University to receive her master’s degree in education for the coursework she completed in 1941. A smiling Hislop rose to an ovation (鼓掌) on June 16 as she received her degree and master’s hood at the university’s Graduate School of Education diploma ceremony while her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheered her on. Hislop, a native of Palo Alto, California, earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1940 from Stanford’s then-School of Education with the plan of earning a master’s degree so she could begin teaching. She was stimulated for an education career by her grandmother, who was a pre-Civil War educator in Kansas, and her aunt, who served as headmaster of a West Los Angeles school. However, her boyfriend at the time, George Hislop, was called to serve in World War II, so the two got married and Virginia Hislop left Stanford after completing her coursework but before handing in her thesis (论文). Her decision to put obtaining her master’s degree on hold did not pause her commitment to education. Hislop has served on the Yakima School Board of Directors, is a founding board of directors member of Yakima Community College and served for 20 years on the board of Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington. “I think I did good things for our local school system and I helped broaden it out,” she told Stanford University. “For me, this degree is an appreciation of the many years I’ve put in working for the schools in the Yakima area and on different boards.” “I felt that all the kids should have an opportunity to develop their potential as best they could, and that everybody should have a crack at higher education if they wanted,” Hislop said. 4. What happened to Hislop at Stanford University on June 16? A. She completed her master’s thesis. B. She received her master’s degree in education. C. She was praised for her service in education. D. She was honored and included in the Hall of Fame. 5. How did World War II impact Hislop’s educational pursuits? A. It led her to join the military along with her boyfriend. B. It inspired her to become an advocate for fairness in education. C. It caused her to move to Washington state for work opportunities. D. It caused her to delay completing her master’s degree due to marriage. 6. What does the underlined word “crack” in the last paragraph most probably mean? A. a chance to try something B. a sudden loud noise C. a line on the surface of something D. damage caused by breaking 7. What is the main idea of the text? A. The life story of an elderly female graduate. B. The challenges faced by women in education. C. The importance of pursuing higher education. D. The recognition of a lifetime of service in education. C The global shipping industry is alone responsible for three percent of the total greenhouse gas emissions (排放)humans produce. If left unaddressed, in a few decades, it will account for over 10 percent of the total man-made emissions. A new study from MIT researchers reveals a practical solution to this problem. The study authors have developed an emission-free approach to produce hydrogen (H₂) fuel, which generates only water when burned, for commercial ships. They also claim they can make hydrogen fuel using easily accessible resources. This isn’t the first study proposing the use of aluminum (a silver-gray metal that soda cans are made from) for producing hydrogen fuel. It’s already well known that when aluminum and water react, hydrogen is formed as one of the byproducts. Such chemical reactions, however, come with a sort of a dilemma: It only works when aluminum is used in its pure state. The moment aluminum meets with oxygen, such as in air, its surface immediately forms a protective layer that prevents further reactions. During their study, the researchers turned recycled soda cans into small aluminum balls. They pretreated the aluminum balls with a rare-metal alloy (合金) that effectively purifies aluminum, making it into a pure form that can react with seawater to generate hydrogen. The salt ions (离子) in the seawater can in turn attract and recover the alloy, which can be reused to generate more hydrogen. The team found that this reaction successfully produced hydrogen gas, though slowly. They experimented with different chemicals including the ones that are typically found in kitchens and realized that adding coffee made a difference. “A low concentration of caffeine is enough to produce the same amount of hydrogen in just five minutes, compared to two hours without it,” the study authors note. “The next part is to figure out how to use this for trucks, trains, and maybe airplanes,” Aly Kombargi, lead study author, said. 8. How can the MIT researchers contribute to the shipping industry? A. By providing a clean energy source. B. By developing new fuel storage methods. C. By improving fuel efficiency in existing ships. D. By planning more convenient shipping routes 9. What is the challenge when making hydrogen from aluminum? A. Hydrogen is too expensive to make. B. The chemical reaction happens too slow. C. Aluminum easily reacts with oxygen. D. The metal surface prevents further reactions. 10. What can be inferred about the MIT researchers’ hydrogen generation process? A. It requires large quantities of alloy. B. It produces significant waste chemicals. C. It creates hydrogen in a sustainable cycle. D. It generates hydrogen with low purity. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Hydrogen Fuel: A Game Changer of Transportation B. Cans+ Seawater+ Coffee: A Greener Shipping Future C. Coffee: The Secret Substance for Clean Shipping Fuel D. Aluminum: A Pioneering Material for Hydrogen Produce D Deep within the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, wonderful ancient murals (壁画) have whispered stories of faith for centuries. However, these national treasures face the constant threat of natural damage. Today, a new “guardian” has arrived to protect them: Artificial Intelligence (AI). Wang Wanfu, a senior researcher at the Dunhuang Academy, is leading this great change. To him, AI is a bridge connecting ancient art with modern science. The protection begins with a close watch on the environment. Wang’s team uses AI to monitor temperature and humidity (湿度). While human eyes might overlook tiny changes, AI can study tens of thousands of high-definition (高清晰度) photos to find the tiniest breaks. “The key is determining whether the worsening is active,” Wang explains. “If risks are found, we step in immediately with targeted techniques before the damage becomes irreplaceable, ensuring the best possible outcome for these precious relics (遗迹).” The power of AI was evident during the repair of a “flying ribbon” from a Dunhuang painting. By studying various artistic styles across different dynasties, AI’s massive computing ability processed thousands of patterns and generated several repair options for the team. This task would have taken humans months or even years to complete. Then, scientists and art historians stepped in to select the most historically accurate plan. This human-machine partnership ensures that technology respects history. “Technology brings relics to life, but we must ensure they are passed down in their original forms,” says Wang. Looking ahead, Wang highlights that conservation is becoming a cross-subject field, drawing on areas from microbiology to computer science. He is calling for more young talents to join the mission. “Whatever your background, if you’re passionate about heritage, there’s a place for you here,” he says. With AI’s assistance, Wang is confident that the glory of Dunhuang will continue to inspire the world, proving that the past can indeed have a bright future. 12. What is Wang Wanfu’s attitude towards the new “guardian” — AI? A. Objective. B. Indifferent. C. Supportive. D. Critical. 13. How does AI help in monitoring the murals? A. By discovering potential risks. B. By controlling temperature. C. By decreasing natural damage. D. By partly adjusting humidity levels. 14. What was the role of humans in the “flying ribbon” repair? A. Providing repair options. B. Developing artistic styles. C. Processing massive patterns. D. Choosing the best repair plan. 15. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To compare human and AI abilities in art repair. B. To explain the historical value of Dunhuang murals. C. To introduce a new method of preserving ancient art. D. To showcase the advantage of AI over human experts. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When we are kids, we laugh a lot. With my mind mentally planning the math problems I needed to do that evening, I pushed a shopping cart, and loaded groceries with mechanical (机械的) efficiency: pasta, a jar of tomato sauce, two apples, a block of cheese… At the register, the cashier, a woman with tired eyes, scanned the items with practiced speed. “That’ll be $128.75,” the cashier said. I took out my wallet, only to embarrassingly find that I didn’t have enough cash, being $12 short. My face grew warm, “I… I’m so sorry,” I stammered (结巴地说), avoiding the cashier’s gaze (凝视). I could feel the impatient stare from the line behind me. “I thought I had more. I’ll just… I can put the cheese back.” Just as I started removing items from my cart, “Wait.” The voice from behind was calm and gentle. I turned. The man standing in line had kind eyes and a soft smile. His expression wasn’t one of annoyance (恼怒), but of understanding. “Please, don’t put it back,” he said, already extending a $20 note towards the cashier. “It’s no trouble at all.” “No, really, I couldn’t,” I insisted, my pride stinging (刺痛) more than my embarrassment. “It’s my mistake. Thank you.” The man’s smile softened further, “Young man, honestly, it’s a few dollars. Just pay it forward one day when you can.” His tone was so genuine (真诚的) that my resistance melted away. I saw not pity in his eyes, but a simple, shared humanity (人性). “Let me tell you a story.” “My mother is battling cancer,” his voice was calm but with a hint of (一丝) unnoticeable choke. “I’ve been visiting her with flowers — she loves fresh roses the most, and I bring her a bouquet (花束) every day to visit her. But this morning, she refused to accept my flowers,” he paused, looking at me sincerely: “She said I should use the money to help people who really need it.” 注意: (1) 续写词数应为150个左右; (2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Tears welled up in my eyes as I accepted his generosity. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I decided to find ways to keep my promise. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语学科单元验收 本试卷共6页,全卷满分150分,考试用时120分钟。 1. 4. Aluminum: A Pioneering Material for Hydrogen Produce 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. On that day, more than 20 events were organized around the campus, offering the fullest experience of the beauty of our mother tongue. Among those most popular events were the live Chinese calligraphy show from our teachers, and the paper-cutting contest, with participants demonstrating delicately designed patterns of Chinese idioms. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文: Tears welled up in my eyes as I accepted his generosity. Words failed me as gratitude flooded my heart. After the cashier settled the bill and handed over the change, the kind man gave me a faint smile and disappeared into the crowd. Gone was my previous embarrassment. What lingered in my mind was his mother’s selfless wish. It dawned on me that this tiny favour was far more than a handful of money; it was a torch of kindness, which I was supposed to pass on. I secretly made a vow to live up to his expectation. I decided to find ways to keep my promise. I devoted my weekends to voluntary work at a local food bank. At school, I would reach out to classmates the moment they were caught in difficulties. Apart from that, I donated my spare belongings to charity, gave up my seat on buses, assisted neighbours with their groceries, and bought coffee for the homeless whenever a chance arose. Each time I passed kindness forward, I came to realize that the warmth would never fade with me. Instead, it kept spreading from person to person, just as the man had wished and as I had vowed. 词汇激活 行为类 ①消失:disappear/vanish ②出现:arise/appear 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude/gratefulness ②尴尬:embarrassment/awkwardness 【点睛】[高分句型1] It dawned on me that this tiny favour was far more than a handful of money; it was a torch of kindness, which I was supposed to pass on.
