66.Dear Chris,
Regarding the style of our graduation song, we seem to have different preferences. You lean toward a lively pop-rock style, while I think a soft acoustic ballad would be more suitable.
In my opinion, a gentle melody with meaningful lyrics can better express the mixed emotions of graduation — the joy of achievement and the sadness of parting. It invites reflection and touches people’s hearts more deeply, which I believe is what a graduation song should do.
What do you think? Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
【导语】题目要求考生以李华的身份给英国笔友Chris写一封邮件,说明在毕业歌曲风格上的分歧并表达自己的观点和理由。

Silence fell upon us when we sat down to prepare at first. Neither of us spoke for what felt like an eternity. I kept my eyes fixed on the notebook, my fingers nervously twisting together. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Emily reach out and gently push a pen toward me — the same pen I had lent her years ago during a chemistry exam. That small gesture broke something inside me. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice trembling. She looked up, tears welling in her eyes. “Me too,” she said softly. Without another word, we pulled our chairs closer and began dividing the presentation slides. The ice finally melted away.
With the weight lifted off our shoulders, we threw ourselves into preparing the presentation. Dividing the work naturally, we soon found our old rhythm — she researched statistics while I designed the slides. Before long, we finished our own parts and discussed how to polish the presentation as a whole. Finally came the presentation day. Having exchanged an encouraging smile, we strode to the front with confidence. The applause that followed felt like a shared victory. It was then that I realized: True friendship isn’t about waiting for the other to apologize first — it’s about being the one brave enough to reach out.

Recommended Books for Earth Month 2026
One indirect outcome of Earth Day was the collective decision to protect the wildlife we live with and to cope with the resulting tensions. Here are three of the many titles gathered for this 2026 Earth Month bookshelf.
My Life with Wolves: How I Became the Storyteller for the Yellowstone Packs by Rick McIntyre (Greystone Books, 2026, 296 pages, $30.00)
Former park ranger (护林人) Rick McIntyre shares decades of wisdom from observing wolves in Yellowstone. He narrates how he narrowly missed a deer’s charge and watched alpha wolves battle for territory. More importantly, this memoir explains how the wolves’ calm assertiveness shaped his own values.
The Company of Owls: A Memoir by Polly Atkin (Milkweed Editions, 2026, 216 pages, $25.00)
Restricted by illness to her cottage in England’s Lake District, Polly Atkin finds companionship in a family of owls living nearby. As she watches them grow, she reflects on survival and solitude. The owls, she writes, taught her to listen carefully to the world around her.
Outsider Animals: How the Creatures at the Margin of Our Lives Have the Most to Teach Us by Marlene Zuk (Princeton University Press, 2026, 312 pages, $29.95)
Biologist Marlene Zuk shifts our focus to creatures we frequently overlook — such as snakes, cockroaches, butterflies and other little-known species. With wit and genuine curiosity, she reveals what cockroaches can teach us about evolution, how butterflies reshape our understanding of pollution, and why even unpopular animals offer profound lessons.
21.What does Rick McIntyre mainly convey in his book?
A.Observing wolves helped him develop his personal beliefs.
B.His career as a park ranger was filled with unexpected risks.
C.The Yellowstone wolf packs have complex social structures.
D.Humans should always keep a safe distance from wild animals.
22.What drove Polly Atkin to seek companionship with the owls?
A.Her desire to write a nature memoir. B.Her limited mobility due to health issues.
C.Her preference for animals over humans. D.Her childhood dream of living in the wild.
23.What do the three books have in common?
A.They are set in North America.
B.They focus on survival challenges of wild animals.
C.They explore the connection between humans and nature.
D.They stress the importance of protecting endangered species.

What do you eat when you need comfort? The answer varies depending on where you’re from, but it’s likely some form of broth (肉汤), served steaming in a bowl.
Across continents, broths are woven into cultural and familial memory. They rarely command attention on their own — yet they form the backbone of countless cuisines.
For Dara Klein, a chef in London, broth connects the threads between her early childhood memories in Italy and her life’s work. In Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, tortellini in brodo is a Christmas tradition. Families gather to shape the pasta by hand while the broth simmers. “Italians are introduced to broth very early in life,” Klein says. “People connect to it deeply.”
Zoey Xinyi Gong, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) food therapist, remembers her grandmother’s chicken soup with goji berries. “There’s always a soup for every meal,” Gong says. “A meal is not complete without soup.” In TCM, which dates back to the 2nd century BC, broth-based soups help maintain the body’s yin and yang — a balance essential for health.
Chicken soup, in particular, has long been associated with recovery. Korea’s samgye-tang is eaten during the hottest summer days as a restorative meal. Greece’s avgolemono combines chicken broth with egg, lemon and rice. Mexico’s caldo de pate is a sustaining everyday soup.
Scientific research into broth’s benefits is ongoing. Some studies suggest it may help reduce inflammation and ease cold symptoms. However, many sweeping health claims surrounding bone broth remain contested, and its benefits are often overstated in popular wellness culture.
Gong recalls being shocked when bone broth became a trendy health product in New York. “They were selling it at coffee shops for $10 for little cups,” she says. “But we’ve been drinking that for a very long time in China.”
Whether simmered for survival, wellness or celebration, one thing seems universal: In kitchens everywhere, someone is still tending the pot.
24.What does Dara Klein say about broth in Italian culture?
A.It is a recent cooking invention.
B.It is only served during Christmas.
C.It was first documented in royal courts.
D.It has deep emotional and traditional roots.
25.What can be inferred about soup in Chinese culture from Gong’s words and TCM principles?
A.It is considered essential but primarily for its flavor.
B.It is only consumed when someone is feeling unwell.
C.It is valued as a tool for maintaining physical harmony.
D.It has been replaced by modern medicine in recent years.
26.What is the author’s attitude toward the health claims made in popular wellness culture?
A.Complete rejection. B.Cautious skepticism.
C.Neutral observation. D.Enthusiastic support.
27.Which phrase or idiom most closely reflects the main idea of the passage?
A.There is no place like home.
B.One man’s meat is another man’s poison.
C.The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
D.A spoonful of comfort — across lands and tongues.

A massive concrete-and-glass structure hangs above traffic on Wilshire Boulevard. It is the new home of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the largest art museum in western America. Its daring architecture is not the only unusual thing about it.
“We’ve given up traditional categories of geography,” says Michael Govan, LACMA’s director. “The idea is to wander.” The museum’s single floor treats all artworks equally: no one movement is presented as more important than another. The museum is loosely organized around oceans to emphasize trade and cultural exchange. The Indian Ocean section, for example, includes Turkish ceramics (瓷器) with blue-and-white flower patterns, influenced by earlier Chinese designs.
LACMA’s break from conventional organization symbolizes a movement towards global galleries as the global economy expands. London’s Tate Modern traditionally centered on Western European art. However, it rearranged its works by theme after 2000 to highlight cultural links. The press hated it. In 2019, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) rejected fixed long-term displays. Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” will probably always be on view but the neighbouring wall will sometimes hold photography. Such an adaptable approach allows for unexpected encounters. Yet not everyone may appreciate it.
What is a thoughtful contrast to one visitor may be hard to understand for another. At LACMA a giant coffee table shows off ceramics from various eras. Why? Visitors who can scan QR codes will find out; the rest will merely wonder. But if such experiments fail to impress, curators (策展人) can rearrange the art again.
Museums should not be inflexible palaces for artworks, many curators argue: they should reflect their surroundings and times. At the new LACMA, says Govan, “We don’t go into a dark box and somebody tells us what to think.” Rather, it tries to be in conversation with Los Angeles (LA). Architecturally, the museum’s uneven shape and floor-to-ceiling windows frame the palm trees (棕榈树) and hills, putting LA itself on display.
28.What is special about the new LACMA?
A.Displaying artworks flexibly. B.Stressing ocean movement.
C.Treating artworks differently. D.Featuring Chinese designs.
29.Why does the writer mention Tate Modern and MoMA?
A.To compare them with LACMA. B.To highlight an exhibition trend.
C.To promote long-term displays. D.To explain economic globalization.
30.What is a potential problem with the new exhibition style?
A.It limits the variety of artworks. B.It depends on QR code technology.
C.It brings little profit to art galleries. D.It causes confusion for some visitors.
31.What can be inferred about the new museum from the last paragraph?
A.It values architecture over artworks. B.It may raise argument over art styles.
C.It can mirror environments and times. D.It guides how visitors view the art world.

Feeling thirsty? Drawing clean water directly from the air is possible, as even extremely dry regions contain some moisture (水汽). Over the past few years, researchers have created sponge-like (海绵状的) materials that make “atmospheric water harvesting” (AWH) possible by absorbing moisture. However, recovering the trapped water usually involves heat and a long wait. Most current systems rely on sunlight to warm these materials. This slow step can take many hours or even stretch into days.
To break this bottleneck, MIT engineers Ikra Shuvo and Svetlana Boriskina identified a much faster method. Instead of heating the water-absorbing materials to release water, they use high-frequency ultrasonic (超声波的) vibrations to shake the moisture loose. These sound waves are precisely tuned to break the weak bonds holding water molecules (分子) in place. This targeted disturbance creates enough force to release the water, shaking it out in small drops.
The new approach elegantly bypasses the materials’ unyielding nature. “Any material that is very good at absorbing water doesn’t want to part with it,” explains Boriskina. “So you normally need to put a lot of energy into pulling water out.” With ultrasound, this process is completely transformed. Lab tests show this method is about 45 times more efficient than traditional heating, freeing the trapped water in mere minutes.
This breakthrough overturns the assumption that AWH systems must absorb moisture overnight and depend on passive sunlight during the day. Powered by a small solar cell, which supplies electricity and also acts as a sensor to detect when the material is wet, the system activates automatically whenever enough water has gathered, allowing the setup to cycle day and night.
The project’s ultimate purpose goes far beyond laboratory efficiency. Boriskina notes it could provide a reliable source of drinking water for remote communities lacking freshwater. As global water crises worsen, this innovation offers a ray of hope, which might be a life-saving solution in the thinnest of air.
32.What does “this bottleneck” mentioned in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The lack of water in dry regions.
B.The huge cost of current devices.
C.The slow process of releasing water.
D.The poor performance of the materials.
33.How do the ultrasound waves release water from the materials?
A.By heating the watery materials.
B.By overcoming the trapping force.
C.By breaking water into small drops.
D.By changing the materials’ property.
34.What activates the new device automatically?
A.An electronic sensor. B.A water cycling setup.
C.Insufficient water absorption. D.Continuous sunlight exposure.
35.What does Boriskina highlight regarding the project in the last paragraph?
A.Its further research. B.Its practical potential.
C.Its current limitations. D.Its technical improvements.

My best friend, Emily, and I had been inseparable since middle school. We shared everything — lunches, secrets, and dreams for the future. Yet as graduation approached, the mounting stress of exams and college applications began to take its toll on both of us. We studied side by side and promised to get through this together.
The turning point came after the midterm examinations. I had prepared for weeks — sacrificing sleep, skipping social gatherings — yet my score fell far below my expectation. Emily, on the other hand, received one of the highest grades in our class. She tried to be kind about it, never bragging or even mentioning her score. But somehow, that made things worse.
She came to me that afternoon with my favorite snacks. “It’s just one exam,” she said gently. “You’ll do better next time.” I nodded but could not bring myself to look at her. She attempted to lighten the mood with silly jokes, but every word felt like a reminder of the growing gap between us. Then she said, half-jokingly, “Come on, don’t be so negative. It’s not the end of the world.”
Something inside me broke. “Easy for you to say,” I erupted. “You’re not the one who failed.” The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them. Her face fell. She parted her lips to respond, but no words came. After a long, painful silence, she simply stood up and walked away without a word.
The following days were cold and heavy. We stopped sitting together at lunch. She found a new table, and I did the same. We passed each other in the hallways like strangers. I could tell she was hurting too, but pride kept us both frozen. The silence between us was not empty — it was loaded with guilt, pride, and everything we wished we could say.
It was not until our English teacher assigned us to work together on a final presentation that we were forced to confront each other. When I saw our names paired on the list, I felt a mix of dread and relief. Finally, there was no way out.
