Do you know how to make your study more effective? Almost every student has his own learning method, but a conversation with my deskmate gave me new ideas on how to study effectively.
My deskmate was a typical procrastinator (拖拉的人) in the eyes of our teachers, and she always finished her homework later than me. However, what surprised me most was she made progress while I couldn’t. Once, I asked her, “How do you improve your grades? You do your homework so slowly.” She answered, “Doing my homework slowly doesn’t mean that I don’t study. Instead, I just review what I have learned first, and then do the homework.”
I suddenly realized that she wasn’t a procrastinator. She just spent her time thinking and reviewing. When she was reviewing, she looked for her mistakes and then corrected them. When we learn a new thing, we remember it well at first. Then we gradually forget it. A few days later, we may keep nothing at all in mind. But reviewing helps us to master new knowledge better.
When we don’t have to prepare for exams, we should review the knowledge and learn from mistakes. When exams are coming, it’s always wise to start preparing for them.
( ) 59. What did the writer think of his deskmate before their conversation?
A. She was a hard-working student.
B. She had a good learning method.
C. She was always slow in doing homework.
D. She never made any mistakes in study.
( ) 60. Why could the writer’s deskmate make progress?
A. Because she reviewed before doing her homework.
B. Because her mother helped her with the homework.
C. Because she finished her homework much earlier.
D. Because she did her homework more carefully.
( ) 61. What does the third paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Why the writer’s deskmate did homework slowly.
B. How the writer improved his grades quickly.
C. Why reviewing is important in learning.
D. What teachers think about procrastinators.
( ) 62. What will the writer do in the future?
A. Do his homework slowly. B. Just prepare for exams.
C. Review and learn from mistakes. D. Try to be a procrastinator.

There are many things you can do to improve your English. One of the best things to do, however, is to read, write and speak English as much as possible. The more you practice your English, the more likely you are to improve it.
Take a Class. English classes are available through schools or other education programs in many parts of the world. No matter where the class is offered, it is best if it is taught by a person whose first language is English. Some classes might focus on reading, writing or speaking, but others will teach students in all three areas.
Use English Daily. If you are living in an English-speaking country, you have many chances to improve your English outside class. For example, if you have children who are learning English at school, you can improve your English by talking with them in English and helping them with their English homework.
One Word at a Time. If you want to improve your English vocabulary, it can be helpful to learn a few new words at a time. For example, you could learn one new word every few days and look for chances to use them in conversation. Another way is to learn two or three new words each week and spend the week trying to use them.
( ) 63. Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A. Students should speak English as much as possible.
B. Students shouldn’t take part in any English classes.
C. Students should learn many new words at a time.
D. Students should be good at learning different languages.
( ) 64. How can you use English daily according to the text?
A. By watching some education programs.
B. By talking with other people in English.
C. By learning some new words every day.
D. By having an English class.
( ) 65. What should students do after they learn some new words?
A. Help someone with his homework.
B. Look up their meanings in the dictionary.
C. Spend a week to remember their meanings.
D. Use these new words as much as possible in conversation.
( ) 66. What is the writer trying to do in the text?
A. Introduce the history of English.
B. Tell us some ways to improve English.
C. Explain the importance of learning English.
D. List the best ways to remember new words.
D
Being compared to great people like Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking is not something that happens to a common person. At the age of just 23, Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski has already achieved more than most of us ever will in our lifetime.
When she was only 14 years old, the Chicago girl made her own single-engine airplane by herself. Then at 16, she flew it across Lake Michigan, becoming the youngest person to ever fly her own plane. She recorded this experience and put it online.
Having completed her study in Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy ( IMSA ), she entered Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT ) in 2010.
At first, she had to wait to be accepted into the school but once two professors watched her video, they had no doubt. After just three years at MIT, she already achieved the highest possible grade point — an average (平均数) of 5.0.
She is now studying further at Harvard University, with full academic freedom (自由学术).
What’s even more amazing is that she is no longer interested in building planes but has turned her attention to physics, namely black holes and how gravity (重力) has an effect on space and time — that is why she is being compared to Einstein and Hawking.
During an interview she said, “Be optimistic about what you believe you can do. When you’re little, you say a lot of things about what you’ll do or be when you’re older. I think it’s important not to abandon those dreams. You must hold on to your dreams and have a strong will. Work hard and never give up. Your dreams will come true finally!”
( ) 67. Why does the writer mention Einstein and Hawking?
A. To remember the two scientists. B. To compare the two scientists.
C. To bring out the main character. D. To introduce their achievements.
( ) 68. What helped Pasterski get a chance to study at MIT?
A. Her video of making and flying her plane.
B. Her highest average grade point of 5.0.
C. Her ability of making videos.
D. Her further study at Harvard University.
( ) 69. What is even more amazing about Pasterski according to paragraph 6?
A. She has full academic freedom at Harvard University.
B. She records all of her work on her website.
C. She becomes the youngest person to fly a plane.
D. She is interested in some special fields of physics.
( ) 70. What does the underlined word “abandon” probably mean in the last paragraph?
A. Balance. B. Correct. C. Forget. D. Speed.
