More than 3,500 players from nearly 100 countries competed in the 2026 Olympics. But do you know some animals could beat the best human players in some events? Let’s find out some of the real competitors who could take home an Olympic gold medal!
Arctic Hare
Speed skaters go about 56 kilometers an hour. Me? I can run 64 kilometers an hour on ice and turn directions in such a rapid way! These are good things for me to avoid danger. So, quick turns? No problem at all!
Figure skaters do jumps and draw fantastic shapes without falling over. A piece of cake for me! I got the name “Perfect Walker”. When walking in the snow, I leave just one clean line. I can also jump up to 2 meters high—about four times my body height. With exact moves and cool jumps, I’m sure to get perfect scores!
Red Fox
Mountain Goat
Players climb up a mountain, then rush down. I do this in the wild every day. My special feet can hold rocks closely to help me climb without difficulty. Going down? I just go down the hill on parts of my body such as feet, sides and so on. Nothing else needed!
Skiers sometimes race over 48 kilometers in just one event. That’s only a warm-up for me. I travel about 1,200 kilometers every year to get food in winter and safe places for my babies in spring. I must be the final winner!

Mary went to see Colin the next morning. He looked sad and tired and his face was white. Mary knew that this was the moment to tell him everything.
“Can I trust you?” Mary asked.
“Yes—yes!” he whispered.
“Dickon is coming to see you tomorrow. And also … I … I found the door into the secret garden.”
Colin’s eyes grew bigger and bigger.
Mary went on, “Colin, we’re going to take you there!”
The next day, a strong servant carried Colin downstairs and put him in his wheelchair. Dickon was waiting for him outside. Dickon pushed the wheelchair slowly and carefully. Mary walked next to it. They went across the lawn to the long road near the wall.
“This is where I walked up and down looking for the door,” whispered Mary. They walked a bit further then Mary whispered again: “The robin flew over the wall here. And there,” she said, pointing under a big bush in the flower bed, “is where I found the key”.
Then Dickon stopped pushing the chair.
“And look!” Mary moved the ivy branch. “Here is the door. Dickon, push him in—push him in quickly!”
When they were inside the garden, Colin looked round and round. He saw the walls and the earth and the trees with their new green leaves. In the grass under the trees there were flowers—gold and purple and white. The trees were covered in pink and white flowers. The sun was warm on his face. Mary and Dickon looked at him. He looked different. His face was pink, not white.
“Mary! Dickon! I’m going to get well!” Colin suddenly cried. “And I’m going to live forever and ever!”
Dickon pushed his wheelchair slowly round and round the garden. He often stopped to show Colin something—green buds, a feather, an empty eggshell.
“I’m going to come back tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after,” said Colin.

I showed my Drawing Number One to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered: “Frighten? For a hat?” In fact, my drawing was not a hat. It was a picture of a big snake digesting (消化) an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I made another drawing: I drew the elephant inside of the big snake, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. My Drawing Number Two looked like the picture.
The grown-ups’ response (回答), this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of the big snake, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and so on. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career (职业) as a painter. I had been depressed (使沮丧) by the failure of my Drawing Number One and my Drawing Number Two. Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.
So then I chose another job, and learned to fly airplanes. I have flown a little over all parts of the world; and it is true that geography has been very useful to me. At a glance I can distinguish (辨别) China from Arizona. If one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is valuable. In the course of this life I have had lots to do with lots of serious people. I have spent a lot of time with grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn’t much improved my opinion of them.

八、书面表达(15分)
Happiness Around Me
Happiness Around Me Different people have different ideas about happiness. For me, happiness doesn’t mean big surprises. It lies in small warm moments around us.
Last term, I was bad at English and felt really upset. One of my classmates noticed my trouble. She spent her spare time helping me go over knowledge and practise reading every day. Slowly, I made great progress in English. When I got good grades in the exam, my heart was filled with happiness.
Happiness is just beside us. It comes from care and help from people around us. We can feel it if we open our hearts.
