Dear Tina,
With the rapid development of the Internet, it’s much easier for us to get information online. Meanwhile, there are also some hidden dangers that we can’t see through. Sometimes we may see some negative and harmful information which is bad for our mental needs.
To stay safe online, I’d like to suggest several ways. First, protect our private information, which means we can’t give out our private addresses or phone numbers. Then, don’t visit unknown websites or click the unknown e-mails. It can help keep us away from dangers. Never meet online friends alone or give our real names, telephone numbers to anyone online. Tell our parents who we are in touch with online. Call the police for help when we are in danger.
Let’s work together to create a safer online environment.

Some people see oysters (牡蛎) as delicious food. But some raise oysters to clean up the polluted seawater. Amy, a 15-year-old girl, is one of them. She has won a master oyster gardener prize this year. She thinks oysters are really helpful. They are environmental stars.
“I knew nothing about oyster gardening when I started in 2022. I learned all of this after I completed a free course about it. The course is about raising oysters in cages (笼子),” Amy says.
There used to be lots of oysters in coastal waters. But their numbers have diminished. This is mainly because of some natural disasters. Oyster gardening is a way to help. “Anyone can join,” an oyster gardening researcher Liz Black says.
“You don’t have to do a lot to take care of your oysters, but the influence they have on the environment is huge,” Amy says.
During the oyster gardening season, Amy and her mom go to the beach. There Amy has nine cages. “Once a week I go out there,” she says. She pulls the cages from the water to check conditions of the oysters.
This spring, Amy’s oysters will be big enough to be collected. Amy will go with Liz to pick them up. Oysters that are collected will then be “planted” on the reefs (珊瑚礁). So far, Amy has raised more than 1,500 oysters. She’s a great leader of oyster gardening and a great supporter, too.

Our brain changes as we grow. New research suggests that our brain undergoes four major’ turning points’—at age 9,32, 66 and 83. This means we have five different brain “eras” (时代) in our lives. Scientists scanned the brains of about 4,000 people—from babies to 90-year-olds. They aimed to observe how the brain’s “wiring” changes over time. Brain wiring means how different parts connect. It controls how we experience the world, make decisions and form memories. A better understanding of this process can help us learn more about ourselves.
From birth to age nine, it’s a period of rapid brain growth. This is “childhood”. During this time, the brain builds many connections. Grey matter (灰质) helps us process information and feel emotions. White matter carries messages and helps with learning and attention. These two work together to help children make sense of the world.
The second era, “adolescence (青春期)”, lasts from nine to 32. During this long period, the brain keeps growing. People get better at remembering, paying attention and solving problems. But a 28-year-old’s brain is not the same as a teenager’s! It’s about the pattern of change, not acting like a teen. The brain is still developing into young adulthood.
From 32 on, the brain enters “adulthood” — the longest era. As the brain becomes more stable (稳定的), its different parts become more separate.
Then comes “early ageing” (66-83) and “late ageing” (83+). During these years, brain connections start to decrease, and this happens faster as we get older. This may explain why some older people have trouble remembering.
Understanding brain wiring can help doctors identify potential (潜在的) problems in attention, language, or memory. It can also help them find better ways to help patients. These “eras” show us what our brains might be best at—or more vulnerable to—at different ages. As researcher Alexa Mousley noted, this could help us understand why some brains develop differently, whether in childhood or old age.
31.According to the text, which brain era lasts the longest?
A.Childhood. B.Adolescence. C.Adulthood. D.Old age.
32.What does “wiring” tell us about the brain?
A.How fast it may grow. B.How it changes with age.
C.How it controls feelings. D.How its parts work together.
33.What can we learn from the text about the brain during “childhood”?
A.It grows more slowly than in other eras.
B.It mainly depends on white matter to feel emotions.
C.It becomes stable and different parts are more separate.
D.It builds strong connections to help children know the world.
34.What does the underlined phrase “more vulnerable to” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
A.More active in making decisions. B.More easily influenced by problems.
C.More interested in learning new things. D.More successful in controlling emotions.
35.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To explain how our brain changes with age. B.To show why older people lose memory.
C.To teach people how to improve memory. D.To compare children’s and adults’ brains.

Wetlands (湿地) are watery places. Wetlands have many kinds of plants and animals. Native (本地的) plants grow near the water. They give food and home to animals. But if purple loosestrife (千屈菜) grows there, there is not enough room for native plants to grow. Without food and home, the plants and animals disappear. The balance (平衡) of nature is gone. That’s why purple loosestrife is called a wetland monster (怪物).
Where did purple loosestrife come from?
Loosestrife is a native plant in Europe and Asia. Some people used it as medicine. It came to North America in the 1800s. People think that the seeds of purple loosestrife were carried across the ocean on ships. Why did purple loosestrife grow out of control?
Purple loosestrife didn’t grow out of control in Europe and Asia. That was because it had natural enemies like beetles (甲虫). Beetles ate loosestrife. They were part of the same ecosystem. Loosestrife came to North America, but its natural enemies did not. As a result, loosestrife grew taller and stronger. Native wetland plants had no place to grow. Soon the native plants began to die.
How do the seeds travel?
Each loosestrife plant can produce almost three million seeds a year. The seeds are tiny and light. The wind can carry the seeds far. Seeds can also travel to other places by sticking to animals’ fur (软毛) and people’s clothes and shoes. Almost all the seeds will grow.
How to stop the wetland monster?
People have used chemicals (化学品) and other ways to try to kill loosestrife, but it always grew back. Scientists needed to find a better way to protect the wetlands. After years of study and research, they found beetles that primarily ate loosestrife. They caught some from Europe and kept them in the United States. Then they put the beetles into wetlands. The beetles ate the loosestrife and stopped it from spreading.
Now native plants are growing again. Frogs, birds, and fish are coming back.
36.Why is purple loosestrife called a wetland monster?
A.Because it kills animals. B.Because it is not a native plant.
C.Because it grows tall and strong. D.Because it breaks the balance of nature.
37.What does the underlined word “seeds” mean?
A.种子 B.藤蔓 C.茎 D.根
38.Why was loosestrife out of control in North America?
A.Because it could produce many seeds.
B.Because its seeds were easy to carry far.
C.Because it had no natural enemies there.
D.Because its seeds could grow easily there.
39.What helped the scientists stop the purple loosestrife from spreading?
A.Native plants. B.Native animals.
C.Beetles that primarily eat loosestrife. D.Chemicals and other ways.
40.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.The Wetlands. B.The Wetland Monster.
C.The Balance of Wetlands. D.The Protection for Wetlands.

You’ve probably heard of books that will change your life. And a lot of readers agree that the book Atomic Habits will meet your needs.
James Clear, who did a lot of research on formation of habits, is the writer of Atomic Habits. 41 It has sold over 15 million copies and has been translated into more than 50 languages. And his website receives millions of visitors each month.
42 That’s because the book introduces a practical system for creating good habits and breaking bad ones. Readers everywhere are very interested in Clear’s “science of tiny habits”.
In the book, the writer suggests trying to get 1% better each day. For example, you’d like to exercise but you don’t think you have the time or energy. Clear suggests starting with two minutes a day. Over time, the effects of this habit will increase as you repeat the actions. 43 “All big things come from small beginnings,” says Clear.
Clear continues with the following advice: Don’t focus on what you want to achieve. 44 For example, two men want to break the habit of smoking. When offered a cigarette, one says, “No, thanks. I’m trying to give up smoking.” The other says, “No, thanks. I’m not a smoker.” While the first man still sees himself as a smoker, the second man doesn’t. Clear says, “Bad habits will die more easily if you focus on who you want to become.”
Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success. 45 Slowly but surely, it will have a great effect on your health, job and relationships.
A.Why is it so popular?
B.Instead, focus on who you want to become.
C.He calls these repeated actions “atomic habits”.
D.This book is a No.1 New York Times bestseller.
E.Also it will give you the tools you need to change your habits.
F.The power of small changes can lead to significant results over time.
G.Clear believes that my habits, when repeated consistently, can create massive transformations.

How Technology Helps Emperor Penguins
With the development of science and technology, we have learned a lot about animals. Emperor penguins can grow up to 1.2 meters tall, and they are the 66 (large) of all the penguin kinds. In 2022, they were listed as endangered animals because the Antarctic sea ice that they live 67 is becoming smaller and smaller. Now scientists are using high technology to follow them and learn more about how 68 (protect) them.
One of the 69 (way) researchers are able to do this is by looking at pictures taken by satellites above the Earth. Large groups of emperor penguins can be seen from space. When scientists first started using satellites to look at the penguins, there were only 28 groups. So far, scientists 70 (discover) 66 groups.
Even using satellites, it is so difficult to count how many penguins live in different groups. Scientists can improve population estimates (估计) by watching the area’s weather 71 (careful). Measuring the wind speed and temperature can help predict if the penguins gather closely together or spread apart across the ice. If scientists know 72 the weather was like when the pictures were taken, they can estimate how many penguins are pictured.
Scientists can also watch penguins’ movements by giving 73 (they) special electronic tags. A scanner 74 (carry) by a robot, and it can read information on the tags. The robot also uses AI to recognize the penguins. It moves very slowly so that it doesn’t make the birds stressed.
Daniel, one of the penguin researchers, hopes the technology 75 (lead) us to a “golden age of research”. Thanks to technology, we are seeing more things that no one has ever seen before.

in the 1800s.People think that the seeds of purple loosestrife were carried across the ocean on ships. Why did
purple loosestrife grow out of control?
Purple loosestrife didn't grow out of control in Europe and Asia. That was because it had natural enemies
like beetles ()Beetles ate loosestrife. They were part of the same ecosystem.Loosestrife came to North
America, but its natural enemies did not.As a result, loosestrife grew taller and stronger.Native wetland plants
had no place to grow.Soon the native plants began to die.
How do the seeds travel?
Each loosestrife plant can produce almost three million seeds a year. The seeds are tiny and light. The wind
can carry the seeds far.Seeds can also travel to other places by sticking to animals'fur (and people's clothes
and shoes.Almost all the seeds will grow.
How to stop the wetland monster?
People have used chemicals (and other ways to try to kill loosestrife, but it always grew back.
Scientists needed to find a better way to protect the wetlands. After years of study and research, they found beetles
that primarily ate loosestrife. They caught some from Europe and kept them in the United States. Then they put the
beetles into wetlands. The beetles ate the loosestrife and stopped it from spreading.
Now native plants are growing again.Frogs, birds, and fish are coming back.
36.Why is purple loosestrife called a wetland monster?
A.Because it kills animals.

C.茎
D.根
38.Why was loosestrife out of control in North America?
A.Because it could produce many seeds.
B.Because its seeds were easy to cary far.
C.Because it had no natural enemies there.
D.Because its seeds could grow easily there.
39.What helped the scientists stop the purple loosestrife from spreading?

How Technology Helps Emperor Penguins
With the development of science and technology,we have learned a lot about animals.Emperor penguins
can grow up to 1.2 meters tall, and they are the 66 (large)of all the penguin kinds. In 2022,they were
listed as endangered animals because the Antarctic sea ice that they live67 is becoming smaller and
smaller. Now scientists are using high technology to follow them and learn more about how 68(protect)
them
One of the 69(way)researchers are able to do this is by looking at pictures taken by satellites
above the Earth.Large groups of emperor penguins can be seen from space. When scientists first started using
satellites to look at the penguins,there were only 28 groups.So far,scientists 70
(discover)66 groups.
Even using satellites,it is so difficult to count how many penguins live in different groups.Scientists can
improve population estimates (by watching the area's weather 71 (careful).Measuring the wind
speed and temperature can help predict if the penguins gather closely together or spread apart across the ice.If
scientists know 72 the weather was like when the pictures were taken, they can estimate how many
penguins are pictured.
Scientists can also watch penguins'movements by giving 73
(they)special electronic tags.A
scanner

recognize the penguins. It moves very slowly so that it doesn't make the birds stressed

26.What does Amy think of oysters?
A.Huge. B.Clean. C.Helpful. D.Delicious.
27.When did Amy get to know about raising oysters?
A.After she joined a research team. B.After she won a competition.
C.After she attended a free course. D.After she cleaned up the seawater.
28.What does the underlined word “diminished” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Grown. B.Fallen. C.Disappeared. D.Remained.
29.Why does Amy pull the cages out of water weekly?
A.To feed the oysters. B.To mix the oysters. C.To check the oysters. D.To name the oysters.
30.What is the best title for the text?
A.A Cage Maker B.A Master Prize C.An Oyster Festival D.An Oyster Gardener
【答案】26.C 27.C 28.B 29.C 30.D

Dear Tina,
With the rapid development of the Internet, it’s much easier for us to get information online.

D
