Besides, some of the classes were very tough. IT was just a huge, massive interacting with people and doing well in school. But I knew the best way to deal with IT was to find the similarities that connected me and other people. Thankfully, I loved drawing a lot back then, so I tried to hang out with people who also liked drawing for tough classes. I often went to the library to study by myself and learned to ask my teachers for help when I met difficulties. Now I want to tell you that you shouldn't let fear hold you back. Leo, a high school student, often walked past the “Golden Years” community center on his way home. He noticed that the community center provided a place for elderly residents (居民) to gather, yet many of them suffered from loneliness. Most sat silently for hours, with few chances to talk and share their life experiences with younger people. An idea flashed in his mind: What if the generations could bridge their gap through stories?
He started a project called “Story Swap”. The concept was simple. Once a week, Leo and a few friends would visit the community center. They wouldn’t just perform or serve tea; they would sit down, one-on-one, with an elderly resident and simply ask, “Would you tell me a story from your life?”
At first, many seniors were hesitant to open up. But Leo and his friends showed true care and patience, so more seniors agreed gradually. Stories began to flow. Mr Chen, a former engineer, talked about building the city’s first bridge. Mrs Li, eyes bright, recounted her youthful adventures as a village teacher. The students listened carefully, totally attracted by these special experiences.
In return, the teenagers shared their own world. They explained how smartphones work, showed pictures of their school life, and talked about their dreams and anxieties. It was a reciprocal exchange. The students learned history and wisdom not found in textbooks, gaining a profound respect for the older generation. The elderly residents felt seen, heard, and connected to the active life of modern society. They were no longer just silent figures in a room; they were storytellers, teachers, and friends. The “Story Swap” project didn’t just fill the silence in the community center; it satisfied people’s deep need for real communication across ages.
24. Why did Leo start the “Story Swap” project?
A. He noticed the elderly were lonely.
B. He needed to learn about history.
C. He was responsible for tending the elderly.
D. He wanted to teach the elderly new things.
25. How was the project carried out?
A. By giving performances to the elderly.
B. By writing letters to each other.
C. By doing housework for the elderly.
D. By sharing life stories one-on-one.
26. What does the underlined word “reciprocal” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Long-lasting. B. Warm-hearted. C. Well-prepared. D. Win-win.
27. What message does the author want to tell us?
A. Community centers need government support.
B. Communication helps bridge the generation gap.
C. Teenagers should learn history from the elderly.
D. Technology is the best way to connect generations.

Have you ever wondered how birds know when to migrate (迁徙) or how they find their way over thousands of miles? For centuries, this has remained one of nature’s greatest mysteries. Today, thanks to a technology called “telemetry (遥测技术)”, scientists are beginning to unlock the hidden secrets of bird migration.
Telemetry involves attaching small electronic tags to birds. These tags send signals to satellites or ground stations, allowing researchers to record and track the birds’ exact movements day and night. In the past, these tags were heavy and could only be used on large birds like eagles. However, with the development of technology, engineers have created “micro-tags” that weigh less than a gram. This means even small songbirds and butterflies can now be tracked without great influence on their natural behaviour.
The data collected is surprising. For example, scientists found that the Bar-tailed Godwit, a medium-sized bird, flies from Alaska to New Zealand — a distance of 11,000 kilometers — without stopping once! This journey takes about eight days. During this time, the bird does not eat, drink, or sleep. To prepare for this, the bird eats heavily before the trip, doubling its body weight.
Understanding migration is not just about satisfying curiosity. It is important for protection. By knowing exactly where birds stop to rest and feed along their routes, governments can protect these specific areas. If a key resting spot is destroyed by development, the birds might not survive their long journey.
Climate change is also affecting migration. Warmer springs mean insects hatch (孵化) earlier. If birds arrive at their destination too late, they might miss the peak food season for their babies. Telemetry helps scientists monitor these changes and predict how bird populations might be affected in the future.
28. What makes it possible to track small songbirds?
A. Newly developed micro-tags. B. Bigger ground stations.
C. Stronger satellite signals. D. Improved weather forecast.
29. What do we know about the Bar-tailed Godwit?
A. It feeds on insects along the flight. B. It sleeps while flying over the ocean.
C. It changes migration routes every year. D. It gains much weight before migration.
30. Why is tracking bird migration important?
A. It allows people to catch birds easily. B. It prevents birds from eating farm crops.
C. It helps identify and protect key habitats. D. It guides people to watch migrating birds.
31. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Bird migration has confused scientists for ages. B. Telemetry helps scientists study bird migration.
C. Birds need protected resting areas during migration. D. Climate change has greatly changed bird migration.
D
In modern life, silence is getting increasingly rare. We always hear traffic noise, phone notifications, background music and construction sounds around us. This is called noise pollution. It is not only annoying, but also a big problem for public health. However, new research shows that finding true, deep silence is really good for our brains and bodies.
A study on mice found an interesting result: If mice stayed in silence for two hours every day, new cells grew in their hippocampus, which is the part of the brain that helps with memory, emotion and learning. Though the study was on animals, researchers think it also matters a lot to humans. When the brain is not always hit by different sounds, silence lets it “recover” and deal with information better.
Besides, silence can reduce our stress. Noise makes our body release cortisol, a hormone (激素) that causes stress. Even when we are asleep, our brains still process sounds. Loud noises can make our blood pressure and heart rate go up. On the contrary, silence can relax our brain and body. In one experiment, two minutes of silence between music tracks was more relaxing for the brain than the so-called “relaxing music” itself.
The brain has a “default mode”. It starts working when we are not focusing on a certain task. This mode is very important for thinking about ourselves and being creative. In a noisy place, the brain is always in “active mode”, dealing with outside sounds. Silence changes this: It lets us daydream, imagine things and make our memories clearer.
In 2026, cities are becoming noisier. Now, architects and designers are trying to create more “quiet spaces” in schools and offices. We used to design buildings for light and fresh air. Now, we must also design them for silence. It’s not just about keeping noise out; it’s about making a place where our minds can rest and breathe freely.
32. What effect can silence bring according to the study on mice?
A. It helps produce new brain cells. B. It makes mice less sensitive to noises.
C. It stops the brain from processing memory. D. It greatly improves the learning levels of mice.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A. Noise affects our body even during sleep.
B. Silence helps with memory in different ways.
C. High blood pressure is mainly caused by loud noise.
D. Cortisol will stop producing when we enjoy silence.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards “quiet spaces”?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Worried. D. Uncaring.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Hidden Harm of Noise Pollution B. The Value of Silence in Urban Design
C. The Power of Silence for Brain Creativity D. The Physical and Mental Benefits of Silence

Sunlight filled the warm living room, where five-year-old Avant Williams sat on the soft carpet, playing with his colorful blocks. His grandma, Svala Heller, sat nearby, watching him with a warm smile. This was their daily routine. Svala took care of Avant with great love. She fed him, sang songs to him, and comforted him when he was upset. They shared a special love that brought them very close.
One afternoon, Svala turned on the TV to watch a movie. On the screen, a high school prom (舞会) scene unfolded — students in beautiful dresses and suits were dancing happily. Svala leaned in slightly, her eyes tracing the movements of the dancers with quiet admiration. Her fingers paused mid-air, moving near her chest, as if she were imagining herself in one of those dresses. Then she leaned back into the sofa, her shoulders dropping just a little and she sighed softly. “Look at that, Avant,” she said. “I grew up in Iceland. We did not have proms there. I always dreamed of going to a special dance like that, but I never had the chance.”
Avant noticed that the way his grandmother smiled had faded. He stopped playing and climbed onto her lap. He looked into her eyes with a serious face. “Don’t be sad, Grandma,” he said in his childish voice. “When I grow up, I will take you to the prom. I promise.” Svala laughed. She thought it was just a sweet joke from a little boy, but she hugged him tightly. “Okay, my dear. I will wait for you,” she said and pulled him into a tight hug.
Twelve years passed quickly. The little boy was now a 17-year-old high school student. Prom season arrived. While most students were asking their classmates to the dance, Avant had a different plan. He never forgot the promise he made in the living room. He decided it was time to make his grandmother’s dream come true.
Avant told his best friend, Ruben Smith, about his plan. “I am taking my grandma to the prom,” Avant said. “It has been her dream for a long time.” Ruben was touched by his friend’s kindness. “Count me in! I’ll be Grandma Svala’s second date!”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
On prom night, Avant dressed in a black suit and went to his grandma’s house.

W: Have you ever overcome any fears? OK, that’s a good question. I think there are many fears that I have overcome in my life, and I’m sure everyone has as well. But the one that sticks out to me was attending university after high school. I think the scariest part of that was meeting the different people from different cultures, different high schools and different areas. I wasn’t sure how to approach people and talk to them. Besides, some of the classes were very tough. It was just a huge mess of interacting with people and doing well in school. But I knew the best way to deal with it was to find the similarities that connected me and other people. Thankfully, I loved drawing a lot back then. So I tried to hang out with people who also liked drawing. For tough classes, I often went to the library to study by myself and learned to ask my teachers for help when I met difficulties. Now, I want to tell you that you shouldn’t let fear hold you back. Face it bravely, and you’ll always find a way through.

A 25. D 26. D 27. B
根据第一段中“He noticed that the community center provided a place for elderly residents (居民) to gather, yet many of them suffered from loneliness. Most sat silently for hours, with few chances to talk and share their life experiences with younger people. An idea flashed in his mind: What if the generations could bridge their gap through stories? (他注意到,社区中心为老年人提供了一个聚集的场所,但许多居民却饱受孤独之苦。他们大多沉默地坐着数小时,很少有机会与年轻人交谈,分享自己的生活经历。一个想法在他脑海中闪现:如果能让不同世代通过故事来弥合彼此之间的隔阂,会怎样?)”可知,Leo发起“故事交换”项目的初衷是他发现了老人们的孤独处境,想要通过故事消弭代际隔阂。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“They wouldn’t just perform or serve tea; they would sit down, one-on-one, with an elderly resident and simply ask, “Would you tell me a story from your life?” (他们不仅会表演节目或提供茶水,还会坐下来,一对一地与年长的居民交谈,并简单地问:“你能给我讲一个你生活中的故事吗?”)”可知,项目的开展方式是通过一对一分享人生故事进行交流。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词下文“The students learned history and wisdom not found in textbooks, gaining a profound respect for the older generation. The elderly residents felt seen, heard, and connected to the active life of modern society.
C
A 29. D 30. C 31. B

A 33. A 34. B 35. D

Look Again at the Ordinary
You may pass the same tree or doorway every day without really seeing it. Slow looking means giving something more attention than you normally would. It does not require expert knowledge or a special destination. ____36____
Start with one object, perhaps a leaf or a familiar photograph. Choose something you can observe (观察) without disturbing it. ____37____ Notice its colors, shapes and surfaces before deciding what it means. The aim is to give your first impression time to develop.
Then change your viewpoint. Move closer, step back or look from the side. A detail hidden from one position may become clear from another. ____38____ A quick drawing or a few descriptive words can help you record this second view.
____39____ Take turns describing one thing you notice, without repeating what has already been said. Your partner may notice something you have missed. Rather than arguing about whose view is correct, return to the object and look for evidence together.
Finally, write down a question your observation has raised. You do not need to answer it immediately. ____40____ The next time you pass that ordinary object, the question may invite you to stop again. In this way, attention becomes a practice rather than a single exercise.
A. Let the question guide a later visit.
B. An everyday object is enough to begin with.
C. Spend a few quiet minutes simply looking at it.
D. Looking with a partner adds another possibility.
E. Keep the most attractive photograph and delete the others.
F. Compare what you can see now with what you saw before.
G. Try to identify its correct name before examining its details.
B 37. C 38. F 39. D 40. A
根据上文“You may pass the same tree or doorway every day without really seeing it. Slow looking means giving something more attention than you normally would. It does not require expert knowledge or a special destination.(你每天可能都会经过同一棵树或同一个门,却并未真正注意到它。慢下来观察意味着比平时更用心地关注某样事物,这并不需要专业知识或特别的目的地)”可知,空前说明慢观察不需要专业知识或特殊目的地,B项“一个日常物品就足够作为观察的开端”承接上文,契合语境。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Start with one object, perhaps a leaf or a familiar photograph. Choose something you can observe (观察) without disturbing it.(从一个物体开始,比如一片叶子或一张熟悉的照片。选择一个你能够观察但不会打扰到的物品)”以及后文“Notice its colors, shapes and surfaces before deciding what it means. The aim is to give your first impression time to develop.(在决定它的含义之前,先注意它的颜色、形状和表面。目的是让第一印象有时间充分形成)”可知,前文提到选定一个可观察的物品,后文要求留意它的颜色、形状等特征,C项“花几分钟安静地只是注视它”衔接前后动作,符合逻辑。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Then change your viewpoint. Move closer, step back or look from the side. A detail hidden from one position may become clear from another.(然后改变你的视角。靠近一点、退后一步,或者从侧面观察。一个位置上隐藏的细节,在另一个角度下可能会变得清晰)”以及后文“A quick drawing or a few descriptive words can help you record this second view.(快速画图或几句描述性的文字,可以帮助你记录下这个第二视角)”可知,本段核心是变换视角观察,F项“把你现在看到的内容和之前看到的做对比”对应视角变化后产生的新观察结果,和后文记录新视角的内容呼应。
【39题详解】
根据后文“Take turns describing one thing you notice, without repeating what has already been said. Your partner may notice something you have missed. Rather than arguing about whose view is correct, return to the object and look for evidence together.(轮流描述你注意到的某一件事,不要重复已经说过的内容。你的同伴可能会注意到你遗漏的地方。与其争论谁的观点正确,不如回到物品上,一起寻找证据)”可知,空后提到和同伴轮流描述观察内容、互相补充遗漏的点,D项“和同伴一起观察会带来另一种可能性”引出本段的协作观察模式。
【40题详解】
根据上文“Finally, write down a question your observation has raised. You do not need to answer it immediately.(最后,写下你观察到的事物引发的一个问题。你不必立即回答它)”以及后文“The next time you pass that ordinary object, the question may invite you to stop again. In this way, attention becomes a practice rather than a single exercise.(下次当你经过那个普通的物体时,这个问题可能会再次邀请你停下来。这样一来,注意力就变成了一种练习,而不仅仅是一次简单的训练)”可知,前文提到写下观察引出的问题、不需要立刻作答,A项“让这个问题引导你之后再次探访”承接“问题”的线索,和后文下次路过该物品时再次停留的内容衔接。

第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

On prom night, Avant dressed in a black suit and went to his grandma’s house. Svala was surprised to see him dressed so formally. Then, Avant handed her a small bunch of flowers. “We are going to the prom, Grandma,” he said with a smile. Svala was shocked. She covered her mouth with her hands, and tears of joy ran down her face. “You remembered!” she cried. “I thought you had forgotten!” She wore her best dress, tears filling her eyes. Ruben waited outside with a warm smile. They headed to the car, ready for the unforgettable night.
Together, they arrived at the school gym where the prom would be held. The music was loud, and the lights were beautiful. When Avant and Svala walked onto the dance floor, the other students smiled and cheered for them. Then, a slow song began. Avant gently took his grandmother’s hand and led her to the center of the floor. “Thank you, Avant,” she whispered as they danced. “This is the best night of my life.” Avant smiled at her. He was happy because he finally kept the promise he made twelve years ago.
