In Mengyin county, Shandong province, a special form of rural creativity is taking root in a farmer’s notebook.
Lyu Yuxia, 54, known online as Yimeng Second Sister, got the name for being the second child in her family. With rough hands and a sunburnt face, she has won unexpected fame online for her poems. “I’m just an ordinary farmer, but words have always been with me,” she said.
In spring 2023, Lyu climbed a mountain to pick Chinese toon sprouts (香椿芽). Seeing peach blossoms covering hillsides, she was deeply touched. She took out her phone, held a bunch of sprouts, and recited one of her notebook-written poems. The Douyin video brought her 100,000 followers within a week. Several of her field-created poems soon gained widespread popularity. In one piece, she compared falling snow to icing sugar and salt dropped from the sky.
“I was a wrinkled farm woman in my fifties and felt insecure at first,” Lyu recalled. “Now poetry gives me courage to be myself.” Some commenters argued her poetic description of rural life was too idyllic, ignoring farming hardships. Pointing to her weathered face, she replied that hardship marks every farmer’s face. “Sun, wind and hard work are unavoidable. But I choose to record hope and expectation. Each spring we plow and sow, uncertain about the weather. Still, sowing seeds carries our wish for good harvests. It is faith in tomorrow, which I write to celebrate.”
Her love for literature began in childhood, when her father told her stories. At 15, she worked in a textile factory. Against noisy machinery, she recited memorized poems by Li Bai and Su Dongpo. She kept notebooks full of magazine excerpts and her own lines. She has started livestreaming from her fruit farm, not only selling her peaches but also helping fellow villagers market their produce. On the busiest days, she livestreams for nine hours straight, sometimes skipping meals. “When I see the orders pile up and help people sell their goods, there’s nothing happier than that,” she said.
4. How did Lyu attract huge online attention within a week?
A. By telling old folk stories. B. By sharing her own poems.
C. By recording peach blossoms. D. By livestreaming local produce.
5. What does the underlined word “idyllic” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Peaceful. B. Practical. C. Painstaking. D. Complicated.
6. Why does Lyu keep livestreaming from her fruit farm?
A. To present the beauty of rural life. B. To promote local agricultural products.
C. To attract more followers with her poems. D. To share her farming experience with viewers.
7. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Poems about rural life gain popularity. B. Farming life provides poetic inspiration.
C. A farmer-poet finds her voice through poetry. D. A former factory worker becomes a farmer-poet.
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. B 7. C

C
Neptune grass is generally regarded as the most ecologically important seagrass and shallow-water habitat in the Mediterranean Sea (地中海). It provides living space for nearly one quarter of local sea creatures and plays a key part in building the natural environment.
Unluckily, it suffered a severe decline during the 20th century, and there have been efforts to actively restore it. Yet Neptune grass grows very slowly and has proven vulnerable to pollution and other threats.
Around Marseille, a coastal city with about two million people, Neptune grass was badly destroyed over many years. The 1980s was its worst period. Dirty water and industrial waste kept flowing into the bay. During the 1970s subway building, dug-out earth was used to make man-made beaches and sea walls. Lots of seagrass was directly covered by earth. Floating dirt darkened seawater, robbing the plant of sunlight needed for underwater growth.
From the mid-to-late 1980s, Marseille used a new wastewater treatment factory to clear most harmful substances. The French government made strict environmental rules, limited coastal building and protected Neptune grass by law. Scientists rechecked two 36-square-meter observation areas set up in 1985. By 2025, one’s plant cover rose from 47% to 94%; the other’s increased from 6% to 81%. Forty-year-long records showed great natural regrowth of local seagrass.
Active man-made projects tend to receive more funding and more attention than passive restoration, but aren’t necessarily cost-effective. Active restoration has been tested and implemented for more than half a century, but has most often resulted in limited success in terms of plant survival.
Removing human-caused drivers of degradation is the key. While this study was about seagrasses, the same principle could be applied to coral reefs and other ecosystems. “We cannot just play God and plant what we destroy. We just need to calm down on the way we are using nature, and we need to respect nature,” said lead researcher Patrick Astruch.
8. What made Neptune grass hit its lowest record around Marseille?
A. Global sea-level rise. B. Construction of the subway.
C. Human-caused pollution. D. Lack of natural sunlight.
9. What did the forty-year-long records reveal about Neptune grass?
A. Its fast speed of loss. B. Its successful recovery.
C. Its dependence on new planting. D. Its increasingly serious decline.
10. Why does the author question active restoration?
A. It is strictly monitored. B. It is insufficiently funded.
C. It receives little public attention. D. It costs much but may achieve little.
11. What is implied in Astruch’s words?
A. Raise more money. B. Be humble to nature.
C. Lend a hand to nature. D. Balance other ecosystems.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. D 11. B

Language expresses countless meanings through small word changes, but grammar varies across languages. Neuroscientists(神经科学家) have long wondered whether bilingual speakers use different brain systems for different languages. A study in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests that the brain uses the same underlying neural machinery across languages.
To understand the basis of grammar in bilingual brains, Blanco-Elorrieta, a NYU neuroscientist, recruited 23 highly proficient speakers of both English and Spanish. They mapped the participants’ brain activity using a non-invasive technique called magnetoencephalography (MEG), which measures the tiny magnetic fields produced when nerve cells send electrical signals to one another.
MEG imaging tracked the bilingual speakers’ brains millisecond by millisecond as participants were asked to produce singular and plural noun forms in both languages. They also tested cognates — words in different languages that share a common meaning, spelling and pronunciation because of a similar origin — as well as made-up words, like “paple”. These made-up words allowed the researchers to investigate whether the brain can apply grammatical rules without depending on a word’s meaning or belonging to a particular language.
Similar brain activity patterns emerged when both languages were used. Cognates didn’t enhance the connection, and made-up words didn’t weaken it. This suggests the brain may represent grammatical operations themselves rather than shared vocabulary. The findings provide strong evidence that one brain mechanism drives both languages.
Still, researchers aren’t sure how the findings about the single grammatical engine might generalize to language pairs that differ more substantially than English and Spanish, Bozic, a cognitive (认知的) neuroscientist at the University of Cambridge, tells The Times. Follow-up research should pursue this path, the study authors note in the paper.
The findings could have practical implications for ambitious polyglots (通晓数种语言的人), since they suggest that the brain doesn’t need to build each new language system from scratch. “From the perspective of language learning, if it is true that there is one universal mechanism for language, then it follows that it may be easier for you to learn new languages” if you already know one, Blanco-Elorrieta says in a separate statement.
12. What was the function of MEG in the research?
A. Recording brain activity. B. Generating magnetic signals.
C. Comparing grammar systems. D. Sending electric signals.
13. Why did the researchers use made-up words like “paple” in the study?
A. To spot language talents.
B. To track language differences.
C. To identify a cognitive mechanism.
D. To enrich a language.
14. What is the focus of Bozic’s comment?
A. The reliability of the research method.
B. A possible direction for future study.
C. Differences between the two languages.
D. The practical value of the current findings.
15. What does the study suggest about language learning?
A. Knowing one language may help with another.
B. Each new language requires a separate system.
C. Grammar learning requires a large vocabulary.
D. Language similarity determines how grammar works.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. A
【解析】

What image comes to mind when you think of a person in their 30s? You might envision someone with a successful career, a big house and cute children. However, the development of adulthood has changed over the past several decades.____16____
Ages 30 to 45 are now“the rush hour of life”. Today people around the world wait later than ever to marry and have kids.____17____ They manage to move ahead in their careers while handling intense responsibilities of caring for young children. Researchers propose the term“established adulthood” to distinguish these years as the most intense and demanding years of adult life.
In midlife — ages 45 to 60 — adults usually reach their peak career earnings and status.____18____ New responsibilities may arise with grandchildren and with aging parents who need more assistance. Overall, mental health tends to decline in this period, with reports of depression and anxiety increasing. In the U. S., midlife well-being has declined notably since2000, especially among working-class adults affected by the information-technology economy.
____19____ Although life after 60 was traditionally viewed as a time of certain decline, improvements in nutrition and health care have enabled people to stay healthier for longer. Physical issues do arise with age, but more people maintain good health through their 60s by keeping a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Moreover, regular exercise promotes both physical and mental sharpness. Life satisfaction also rises as people gain freedom to choose work they enjoy or stop working altogether to spend time with loved ones.
How people think about stages of human development matters because thinking shapes expectations and the way experiences are interpreted. Lots of exciting new findings about adult development point to the importance of rethinking previous theories, assumptions and stereotypes (刻板印象) about the course of adult life.____20____
A. However, life can become complicated again.
B. But then couples typically face the double challenge.
C. This is because they focus on carving out their careers.
D. These shifts call for a fresh look at adult development.
E. Such updates are essential in understanding the journey of life.
F. In contrast, adults in later life are doing better like never before.
G. Adults from 60 to 75 are free from burdens but live a relatively lonely life.
【答案】16. D 17. B 18. A 19. F 20. E

【答案】One possible version:
Dear Mike,
I’m glad to hear that you will take part in our “Traditional Culture Experience Day”. Since you can only choose one, I suggest you try the traditional handicraft project.
First, you can make something by yourself, such as paper-cutting or a small clay toy, which will be more interesting and memorable. Second, it is easier for beginners to join in, and you can take your work home as a gift. Although traditional drama is wonderful, it may be difficult to understand without much background knowledge.
I hope my advice is helpful. Enjoy the activity!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was 1996 when my husband was transferred to Healesville, a small rural town in Australia. We had been living in Melbourne, where we had a familiar circle of friends and family. In Healesville, however, we didn’t know a soul. It was just my husband, our two little children, our two dogs and me.
I tried to get used to the new place, but often felt like an outsider. On my way to work, I passed the same quiet streets every day, yet hardly anyone greeted me. People seemed to have their own circles, and my life became a routine of home and work. I missed the familiar faces and easy conversations we had left behind in Melbourne. Although I lived in the town, I did not feel that I belonged.
We hadn’t been there long when we all came down with the flu. We had aching bodies, high fevers and hardly enough strength to get out of bed. There was some food in the house, but not much. The kitchen was nearly empty, with only a few cans and an old pot (锅) by the stove. One day, I tried to drive to the shops, only to turn back halfway because I was too sick to drive safely.
Things became worse when I realized that the dogs’ food was running out, too. “We have to feed the dogs,” I said helplessly. We were stuck, with no relatives nearby and no one we knew well enough to call.
Then, unexpectedly, the phone rang. My husband answered it. It was Kathy, a woman from his new workplace whom I had never met. He had mentioned that she was always ready to lend a hand when someone was in need. She had somehow heard about our situation. After asking a few questions, she told my husband she would see what she could do.
A little later, my husband told me Kathy was coming over. I was touched but puzzled. What could a woman I had never met possibly do for a family she hardly knew? Still, the thought that someone cared enough to help gave me a little hope.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Several days later, when I had recovered enough to leave the house, I decided to return the empty pot.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A few minutes later, we heard a knock at the door. My husband opened it, and there stood Kathy, holding a large pot and several bags. She smiled warmly. “I heard you were all sick. I’ve brought some hot soup and a few things you might need.” She placed the pot on the stove and pulled out bread, milk, eggs, and a bag of dog food. My eyes filled with tears — she had thought of everything, even the dogs. Before leaving, she said, “Just rest and get better.” That night, for the first time in weeks, we enjoyed a warm, home-cooked meal. A stranger’s kindness melted my loneliness away.
Several days later, when I had recovered enough to leave the house, I decided to return the empty pot. I washed it carefully and filled it with homemade cookies as a small token of thanks. When Kathy opened the door, she looked surprised, then smiled. “You didn’t have to do this,” she said. “I was glad to help.” I told her how much her kindness had meant to us, and she invited me in for tea. That afternoon, we talked like old friends. I realized belonging doesn’t come from knowing many people — it comes from one warm heart reaching out.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A few minutes later, we heard a knock at the door.
