Chen Yuxi: Growing into a Champion
When Chen Yuxi stepped onto the 10-metre platform at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, the noise from the crowd seemed to fade away. “My focus was entirely on the platform,” the 21-year-old told China Daily. “The spectators and the loud noise felt completely nonexistent to me.”
That total concentration carried Chen to the top of the podium. She won gold in both the women’s 10-metre individual and synchronized platform events.
For Chen, the victory was a “full-circle moment”. Five years earlier, as a nervous teenager, she had made her Olympic debut at the same venue in Tokyo. Back then, she was so afraid of water that more than a dozen coaches had to work patiently to help her overcome her fear. This time, she returned as a champion.
Chen’s journey to the top was not smooth. She admitted that she felt nervous in the preliminaries and could not find her rhythm at once. “There were a few mistakes,” she said. However, she managed to make quick adjustments before the finals. “Making quick adjustments was great training, and such experience is extremely valuable to me.”
Compared with the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, Chen felt calmer this time. “My overall frame of mind was better,” she said. “I kept reminding myself to be decisive and to complete every dive without hesitation.”
Now a leading figure in the Chinese diving team, Chen feels a duty that goes beyond her own scores. “My role is to carry on the tradition of the senior athletes before me and set an example for the younger generation,” she said.
After years of intense training, Chen recently took a break. She travelled alone to Iceland and, as a passionate photographer, tried to capture the Northern Lights in complete darkness. Without a tripod, she hung the camera around her neck and held it steady with both hands.
The trip gave Chen more than beautiful photos. The longer she stayed away from the water, the more she missed it. “If diving were taken out of my life, something vital would feel missing,” she said. “I am still truly passionate about it.”
For Chen, diving is like polishing a work of art, where every entry angle must be precise. “I always hope to gain something new compared to the last competition,” she said. “It’s about constantly striving to be a better version of myself than yesterday.”
4. What can we learn about Chen Yuxi at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games?

5. Why did Chen describe her victory as a “full-circle moment”?
A. She returned to the venue of her Olympic debut as a champion.
B. She won her first international gold medal there.
C. She was reunited with the coaches who had trained her.
D. She finally overcame her fear of water at that venue.
6. What does Chen think of the mistakes she made in the preliminaries?

C
For over 2,500 years, the Chinese have valued an idea called “harmony without uniformity”. It means that different cultures can live together peacefully without becoming the same. According to this idea, a peaceful world does not require all countries to share one culture or one social model.
This ancient wisdom is still useful today. In 2023, China put forward the Global Civilization Initiative, calling on countries to respect cultural diversity, share common human values and increase cultural exchanges. In 2024, the United Nations General Assembly accepted China’s proposal and set June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. This shows that many countries support the idea of peaceful coexistence (共存).
The Nishan Forum on World Civilizations (尼山世界文明论坛) is a good example of putting this idea into practice. Named after the birthplace of Confucius, the forum was first held in 2010, in response to the UN’s call for a dialogue among civilizations. Its 12th meeting opened in Qufu, Shandong Province, with the theme “Civilization, Order and Justice”. The forum offers a different way of thinking from the view that some cultures are simply better than others.
At the forum, people discuss topics such as the modern value of Confucianism, the challenges facing global governance, and the role of AI in shaping the future of humanity. The message is clear: no civilization is better to another. Countries should respect different histories, values and development paths, and seek agreement through equal dialogue.
In a video address to the forum, Thomas Bach, honorary president of the International Olympic Committee (国际奥委会), connected Confucian philosophy with the Olympic spirit. He pointed out that Confucius stressed developing both the body and the mind, an idea also found in the ancient Roman saying “a sound mind in a sound body”. In today’s divided world, he said, dialogue between civilizations helps people from different nations understand and unite with each other.
The ancient Silk Road was not just a trade route but also a channel for exchanging goods and ideas. Today, platforms like the Nishan Forum continue this tradition, showing that exchange, rather than conflict, is the way to a shared future.
8. What does “harmony without uniformity” mean according to the text?
A. One culture is better than all the others.
B. Countries should give up their own traditions.
C. All countries should follow the same social model.
D. Different cultures can coexist peacefully without becoming the same.
9. What can we learn about the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations?
A. It is held in Beijing every year.
B. It is named after a famous Chinese scientist.
C. It was created by the International Olympic Committee.
D. It was first held in response to the UN’s call for dialogue.
10. What can we infer from Thomas Bach’s words?
A. The Olympic spirit was created in China.
B. Sport and philosophy have nothing in common.
C. East and West actually share some common values.
D. Ancient Romans learned philosophy from Confucius.
11. What is the main idea of the text?
A. The history of the ancient Silk Road.
B. Why some cultures are better than others.
C. The development of the Olympic spirit in China.
D. How China’s idea of “harmony without uniformity” promotes dialogue among civilizations.
D 9. D 10. C 11. D
根据第一段“It means that different cultures can live together peacefully without becoming the same.(这意味着不同的文化可以和平共处,而不需要变得完全相同)”可知,“和而不同”意思是不同的文化可以和平共存,而不会变得相同。
根据第三段“Named after the birthplace of Confucius, the forum was first held in 2010, in response to the UN’s call for a dialogue among civilizations.(该论坛以孔子诞生地命名,于2010年首次举办,旨在响应联合国开展文明对话的号召)”可知,世界文明论坛最初是应联合国呼吁对话而举办。
根据第五段“He pointed out that Confucius stressed developing both the body and the mind, an idea also found in the ancient Roman saying “a sound mind in a sound body”.(他指出,孔子强调身心共同发展,这一理念也见于古罗马谚语:“健全的心智寓于健康的体魄。”)”
根据第一段“For over 2,500 years, the Chinese have valued an idea called “harmony without uniformity”. It means that different cultures can live together peacefully without becoming the same. According to this idea, a peaceful world does not require all countries to share one culture or one social model.(两千五百多年来,中国人一直推崇 “和而不同” 的理念。
D
For the first time in China’s history, the sun has become the country’s biggest power source — at least in terms of how much power can be produced. At the end of July, China’s solar power capacity (发电装机容量) reached 1.286 billion kilowatts, just past the 1.285 billion kilowatts of coal power. For more than a century, coal had been the top supplier since the first electric light was turned on in China. That long record has now been broken. At the end of 2021, solar capacity was just 310 million kilowatts (kw), so the jump to 1.286 billion took barely four years.
The difference was small — about 100,000 kilowatts, or one large power plant — but its meaning is huge. The total is equal to about 57 Three Gorges Dams, and solar now makes up 31.5% of all power installed in China. It is also the largest in the world, far above the United States, India and even the whole European Union. China also produces about 80% of the world’s solar panels.
Capacity is one thing; real output is another. In the first seven months, solar farms produced 802.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 15.5% from a year earlier. About one in every eight units of electricity used in China now comes from the sun. During the same period, coal’s share of power produced fell below 50% for the first time in the country’s history.
Does this mean coal is finished? Not quite. Because solar power is weak at night and on cloudy days, coal plants are changing from main suppliers into helpers that balance the power supply and act as a safety net. After all, the ability to produce power is not the same as a steady, all-day supply.
The change points to a wider energy transition As wind and solar grow, China is building a new power system while cutting carbon emissions on the way to its climate goals. A power map drawn for a hundred years is being redrawn by sunlight — and the world is watching closely.
12. What happened to China’s coal power at the end of July?
A. It was closed. B. It lost its lead.
C. It set a new record. D. It became the world’s largest.
13. What do we know about solar power in the first seven months?
A. It doubled. B. It grew by 15.5%.
C. It fell below 50 percent. D. It overtook coal in total output.
14. Why are coal plants still needed according to the text?
A. They cost less. B. They are easy to build.
C. They keep supply steady at night. D. They produce more than solar power does.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Solar Power. B. China’s Changing Power Map.
C. The Rise of the Sun. D. The Sun Is Redrawing China’s Power Map.
B 13. B 14. C 15. D
根据第一段“For the first time in China’s history, the sun has become the country’s biggest power source — at least in terms of how much power can be produced. At the end of July, China’s solar power capacity (发电装机容量) reached 1.286 billion kilowatts, just past the 1.285 billion kilowatts of coal power. For more than a century, coal had been the top supplier since the first electric light was turned on in China. That long record has now been broken.(中国历史上,太阳能首次成为国内最大的电源——至少从可发电总量(装机容量)来看是如此。7月底,中国太阳能发电装机容量达到12.86亿千瓦,刚刚超过煤电的12.85亿千瓦。自中国点亮第一盏电灯以来,煤炭在一个多世纪里一直是头号供电来源。这项保持已久的纪录如今被打破)”可知,煤电失去了领先地位。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“In the first seven months, solar farms produced 802.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 15.5% from a year earlier.(前七个月,太阳能电站发电量 8024 亿千瓦时,同比上涨 15.5%)”可知,在前七个月里,太阳能发电量同比增长了15.5%。
根据第四段 “Because solar power is weak at night and on cloudy days, coal plants are changing from main suppliers into helpers that balance the power supply and act as a safety net.(因为夜间和阴天太阳能发电能力不足,燃煤电厂转变为辅助力量,平衡电力供应,充当安全保障)”可知,煤电保障夜间供电稳定。
全文讲中国太阳能装机容量首次超过煤电,能源格局发生巨变,结尾“A power map drawn for a hundred years is being redrawn by sunlight — and the world is watching closely.(百年电力版图正被阳光重新绘制,而世界正密切关注着这一过程)”是全文核心句。
Many office workers feel tired and blame it on long hours. Nutrition experts point to another cause: not eating enough protein. A 2026 survey found that 74.5% of them eat irregular meals, and 81% have breakfast with carbohydrates (碳水化合物) only — such as plain buns, white porridge or fried dough sticks. ____16____
Over a long period, this eating pattern leads to a protein gap. National data show that more than 42% of Chinese adults fail to get high-quality protein to 40% of their total daily protein intake, while the 2025-2030 national plan sets a goal of 50%. ____17____ It affects muscle strength, immune (免疫的) function and how fast the body burns energy.
Why do so many people fall short? Experts point to two main reasons. First, wrong beliefs. A national survey found that 72% agree that “staple food is enough for nutrition”, and 65% think “a vegetarian diet is healthier and you don’t need meat or eggs”. ____18____
Second, unbalanced meals. The Chinese diet has long been built on refined rice and white flour. ____19____ Also, protein in refined grains is only 60% to 70% digestible (可消化的), while protein in eggs and whey (乳清) is more than 90% digestible.
According to the Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes (2023), men aged 18 to 64 need 65 grams of protein a day and women need 55 grams. ____20____ A simple daily plan: breakfast — 1 egg and 250 ml of milk; lunch — 100 g of lean meat or fish; dinner — 80 g of seafood with mixed-grain rice.
A. Few breakfasts include eggs or milk.
B. Such beliefs keep people away from protein.
C. The gap is wide and hard to close.
D. In fact, vegetarians (素食主义者) can also get enough protein.
E. The share of meat, eggs and milk is below 40%.
F. Protein also plays a role in keeping the skin healthy.
G. Since the body can only use 20 to 30 grams at one meal, protein should be spread across three meals.
A 17. C 18. B 19. E 20. G

根据上文“Many office workers feel tired and blame it on long hours. Nutrition experts point to another cause: not eating enough protein. A 2026 survey found that 74.5% of them eat irregular meals, and 81% have breakfast with carbohydrates (碳水化合物) only — such as plain buns, white porridge or fried dough sticks.(许多上班族感到疲惫,并将原因归咎于长时间工作。营养专家指出了另一个诱因:蛋白质摄入不足。2026年的一项调查显示,74.5%的上班族饮食不规律,81%的人早餐只吃碳水化合物,例如白馒头、白粥或者油条)”可知,上文提到81%的上班族早餐只吃碳水类食物(馒头、白粥、油条等),A项“很少有早餐包含鸡蛋或牛奶”承接该内容,符合语境。
【17题详解】
根据上文“Over a long period, this eating pattern leads to a protein gap National data show that more than 42% of Chinese adults fail to get high-quality protein to 40% of their total daily protein intake, while the 2025-2030 national plan sets a goal of 50%.(长期保持这种饮食模式会造成蛋白质缺口。
根据上文“Why do so many people fall short? Experts point to two main reasons. First, wrong beliefs. A national survey found that 72% agree that “staple food is enough for nutrition”, and 65% think “a vegetarian diet is healthier and you don’t need meat or eggs”.(为什么这么多人蛋白质摄入量不足?专家指出两个主要原因。第一,错误的观念。一项全国调查发现,72%的人认同“主食就足够提供营养”,65%认为“素食更健康,不需要吃肉或鸡蛋”)”可知,空前提到两类错误的饮食观念,B项“这类观念让人们远离蛋白质”承接前文的错误认知,逻辑连贯。
【19题详解】
根据上文“Second, unbalanced meals. The Chinese diet has long been built on refined rice and white flour.(第二,膳食不均衡。
根据上文“According to the Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes (2023), men aged 18 to 64 need 65 grams of protein a day and women need 55 grams.(根据《中国居民膳食营养素参考摄入量(2023)》,18至64岁男性每日需要65克蛋白质,女性需要55克)”以及后文“A simple daily plan: breakfast — 1 egg and 250 ml of milk; lunch — 100 g of lean meat or fish; dinner — 80 g of seafood with mixed-grain rice.(一份简单的每日方案:早餐——1个鸡蛋和250毫升牛奶;午餐——100克瘦肉或鱼肉;晚餐——80克海鲜搭配杂粮饭)”可知,空前提到不同人群每日蛋白质推荐摄入量,空后给出分三餐补充蛋白的具体方案,G项“由于人体每餐仅能利用20-30克蛋白质,蛋白质应分摊到三餐中”衔接摄入量标准和分餐补充的方案。

Ranking My High School Life Essentials

One possible version:
Ranking My High School Life Essentials
In my opinion, study, exercise and socializing are all important, but I rank them as follows: study first, exercise second and socializing third.
Study comes first because high school is a key period for building knowledge and preparing for the future. Exercise is next, since a healthy body helps us stay energetic and deal with pressure. Socializing is also necessary, but it should not take up too much time. Good friendships can make school life warmer, yet they should not affect our study and health.
Therefore, I believe a balanced life with study as the top priority is the best choice.

A. She competed in three different events.
B. She won gold in two platform events.
C. She broke the world record in the final.

A. She returned to the venue of her Olympic debut as a champion.
B. She won her first international gold medal there.
C. She was reunited with the coaches who had trained her.
D. She finally overcame her fear of water at that venue.
6. What does Chen think of the mistakes she made in the preliminaries?
A. They showed she was not well prepared.
B. They were a valuable learning experience.
C. They were mainly caused by the noisy crowd.
D. They almost made her give up the finals.
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. Chen Yuxi’s growth into a confident diving champion.
B. The growing popularity of diving in China.
C. How athletes deal with the pressure of competition.
D. Chen Yuxi’s unforgettable trip to Iceland.
