I, a curious boy, visited the Ekushey Boi Mela this year. It is one of the biggest book fairs in Bangladesh, usually held in February. On the very first day, I walked over to visit the exhibition immediately after school. I entered the fair and began to move from one stall (摊位) to another with great interest. There were many people at the exhibition. Most were school children like me. I saw all sorts of books such as fiction, textbooks, dramas, children’s books, and reference books. One good thing about exhibitions is that they usually offer free gifts. This exhibition was no different. Men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds gathered there. At a counter near the entrance, I registered to be a member of the book shop and I received a small calculator as a gift. Inside the main hall, I was amazed by the number of books on display. There were books on computers, science, technology, music, cookery, travel, business, self-help, and general interests. Other items on display included encyclopedias, maps, novels, magazines, and even greeting cards. In addition, there was a huge collection of dictionaries. Also available were computer software, CDs, and other digital media. Next, I moved on to less crowded areas and looked at the books. There were many that I would love to get my hands on but my financial status did not allow it. So I looked through as many as I could. In that way, I happily whiled away a whole afternoon. I enjoyed my visit to the book fair very much. It reminded me of the simple joy of reading. 4. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 1? A. To show the author’s social identity. B. That may be why many kids struggle to stay focused in school, often losing track of lessons. High-intensity (高强度) break exercises can help students focus better. Just a few minutes of activity improves brain function and learning, new research shows, offering a simple solution for classroom problems. Eric Drollette wondered how little exercise was needed to improve focus. He’s an exercise expert at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He led a team that designed a nine-minute, high-intensity break exercise program that could be done in a classroom without extra equipment. It uses short periods of heart-beating activity with short breaks in between. For example, high knees, star jumps, jumping jacks, hops and kicks. They described it in Psychology of Sport and Exercise, a leading academic journal. Twenty-five students aged 9 to 12 tried out the program. At Drollette’s lab, they wore a heart rate monitor (监测器) and an EEG hat that recorded brain activity in real time. Then they did the high-intensity break exercises, rode an exercise bike or watched a short video. After each activity, participants did some tests. One test showed five fish in a line on a screen, and kids had to note which direction the center fish faced. Other tests focused on math or language skills. During the fish test, the team noticed a change in what Drollette calls “the uh-oh mechanism” — when you realize you made a mistake. High-intensity exercise reduced that response, suggesting that exercise had made kids’ brains more efficient at processing information. Students also performed better on the language tests after the high-intensity workout. But they did a little worse at math. That could be from tiredness, which tends to affect higher-level thinking tasks, Drollette says. Being active can help with both mental and physical health, says Drollette. His recommendation: “Find opportunities to stand up and get moving, even for a few minutes, to keep your brain sharp and your body healthy.” 8. What is the nine-minute program designed for? A. Helping students get better at focusing. B. Training students’ physical strength. C. Making students more active in sports. D. Assisting students to relax after class. 9. What were the 25 students required to do in Drollette’s lab? A. They only did high-intensity exercise. B. They wore equipment to record brain activity. C. They did tests before doing any activity. D. They watched videos for a long time. 10. What effect did high-intensity break exercise have on students? A. It made students better at math. B. It reduced students’ tiredness. C. It improved students’ language tests. D. It made students’ brains slower. 11. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. Short Breaks: A Cure for Students’ Tiredness B. High-Intensity Break Exercises: A Way to Improve Math C. Short Breaks: A Solution to Building Health D. High-Intensity Break Exercises: An Aid for Students’ Focus 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“High-intensity (高强度) break exercises can help students focus better. Just a few minutes of activity improves brain function and learning, new research shows, offering a simple solution for classroom problems.(高强度课间运动可以帮助学生更好地集中注意力。新研究表明,短短几分钟的运动就能改善大脑功能与学习效率,为课堂专注力难题提供了简便的解决办法。)”和第二段中“Eric Drollette wondered how little exercise was needed to improve focus. He’s an exercise expert at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He led a team that designed a nine-minute, high-intensity break exercise program that could be done in a classroom without extra equipment.(运动专家埃里克·德洛莱特就职于北卡罗来纳大学格林斯伯勒分校,他想知道提升专注力所需的最短运动时长。他带领团队设计了一套时长九分钟的高强度课间运动方案,无需额外器械,在教室内即可完成。)”可知,该项目旨在帮助学生提升专注力。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“At Drollette’s lab, they wore a heart rate monitor (监测器) and an EEG hat that recorded brain activity in real time.(在德洛莱特的实验室里,他们佩戴心率监测器和脑电图帽,实时记录大脑活动。)” 根据第四段中“Students also performed better on the language tests after the high-intensity workout.(学生们在高强度运动过后,语言测试的表现也变得更好。)” D We live in a society that’s crazy about winning. Gold medals, bestseller lists, championships, and Nobel Prizes are the markers of honour. The spotlight shines brightest on the people who crossed the finishing line first, while those who came close slip into the shadows. But the “almosts” shouldn’t be overlooked. The runner who loses by a second, the inventor with a mistimed idea, and the poet whose words gain significance later all contribute significantly. Their efforts often shape the world in ways we only notice later. They’re not failures; instead, they test boundaries and sometimes drive society forward more than celebrated victors. Nikola Tesla, a genius overshadowed by Thomas Edison in his lifetime, had brave visions like wireless power. He died poor, yet his innovations are everywhere in our daily lives. Emily Dickinson’s poems were ignored during her life but later revolutionized American poetry. Katherine Johnson, a NASA mathematician, made spaceflight possible, but her work was unrecognized for decades. These “almosts” show that falling short doesn’t mean lacking impact. Pioneers who break new ground often don’t get the honour. Rosalind Franklin’s X-ray images of DNA were crucial for a major scientific discovery, but Watson and Crick received the Nobel Prize. Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting in his life and struggled with poverty. His fame and the value of his work rose dramatically only after his death. Athletes who change training standards, activists who plant seeds of change, and musicians who influence future generations are all “almosts” who clear the path for others. When we recognize the “almosts”, we redefine winning. It’s about the courage to try, slip up, and keep going. The runner who takes silver comes back stronger. Small-business founders may fail first but rise with a game-changing idea. Artists who weren’t celebrated in their time often touch souls later. The “almosts” remind us that success is about daring to start. Effort is valuable even without applause, and struggle has meaning. Most of us are “almosts” in some areas of life. Though few reach first place, we all matter. The “almosts” exist between being unknown and becoming famous, quietly pushing the world forward. 12. What social phenomenon does Paragraph 1 present? A. Last-place finishers gain no public attention at all. B. Society punishes those who fail to win competitions. C. Traditional honour symbols have lost their original value. D. Near-winners are overlooked in a victory-consumed society. 13. Why are “almosts” important to society? A. They set examples of how to avoid failure in life. B. Their efforts push society forward in various fields. C. They always win awards in the end with their efforts. D. They are more creative than those who win first places. 14. What does the author propose as a more meaningful definition of “winning”? A. Achieving fame and public recognition. B. Becoming the one to achieve a great discovery. C. Leaving an everlasting mark that shines brightly. D. Being brave to attempt, make mistakes and keep going. 15. What is the author’s attitude towards the “almosts”? A. Unconcerned. B. Disappointed. C. Appreciative. D. Doubtful. D 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第一段“We live in a society that’s crazy about winning. Gold medals, bestseller lists, championships, and Nobel Prizes are the markers of honour. The spotlight shines brightest on the people who crossed the finishing line first, while those who came close slip into the shadows.( 我们生活在一个痴迷于胜利的社会中。金牌、畅销榜、冠军头衔和诺贝尔奖,都是荣誉的标志。聚光灯最亮的光芒总是落在最先冲过终点线的人身上,而那些接近成功却未能夺冠的人,则被遗忘在阴影之中。)”可知,第一段呈现的社会现象是:在一个过度追求胜利的社会中,那些差一点就获胜的人往往被大众所忽视。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“They’re not failures; instead, they test boundaries and sometimes drive society forward more than celebrated victors.( 他们并非失败,而是不断突破边界,有时甚至比那些备受赞誉的胜利者更能推动社会前进。)” 根据第五段中“When we recognize the ‘almosts’, we redefine winning. It’s about the courage to try, slip up, and keep going.( 当我们认可这些“almosts”时,我们就重新定义了胜利。胜利在于尝试、犯错并继续前进的勇气。)”可知,作者提出更有意义的‘胜利’的定义是:勇敢去尝试、敢于犯错并坚持不懈。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,作者在文中列举了大量“almosts”的例子,并在最后一段总结“Effort is valuable even without applause, and struggle has meaning. Most of us are “almosts” in some areas of life. Though few reach first place, we all matter. The “almosts” exist between being unknown and becoming famous, quietly pushing the world forward.( 即使没有掌声,努力依然有价值,奋斗也充满意义。我们大多数人在生活的某些方面都是“近乎成功者”。虽然很少有人能登上榜首,但我们每个人都重要。“近乎成功者”存在于默默无闻与声名远扬之间,安静地推动着世界前进。)”推知,作者对‘almosts’这类群体持赞赏的态度。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Learning how to care for a sad person will help you be there for your loved ones and friends when they are down. However, knowing how to care for a sad person is not something an individual is born with.(学习如何关心一个伤心的人会帮助你在你爱的人和朋友倒下的时候陪在他们身边。 Hugging someone shows your affection and care.(给一个拥抱。 【18题详解】 根据后文“Now, go on and say some kind words. Words like “I’m here”, “we are in this together”, “you’ll get over this”, “lean on me” and so on, can help a sad person feel better and know that you’re there to take him/her through the sad moment.(现在,继续说几句好话吧。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Use the right tone of voice.(使用正确的语气)”以及后文“They go along with tone to convey a meaning to the listener.(它们配合语气向听者传达意思)”可知,后文提到言语配合语气向听者传达意思,说明不是孤立的,D选项words对应后文they。 Three months into my job at QuickBites, I’d learned to fear apartment deliveries — especially in this aging complex with its broken elevator and twinkling hallway lights. Now in ____33____ school, when classmates complain about “difficult patients”, I tell them about the woman who taught me that ____34____ isn’t just in the diagnosis (诊断) — it’s in the five extra minutes you take to hear the story ____35____ the symptoms (症状). 21. In our school canteen, some students eat alone while others prefer sharing a table with friends. Personally, I usually choose the latter. After a stressful morning full of classes and quizzes, I once entered the canteen exhausted. However, I left smiling after chatting with my friends over lunch. We talked about our daily school life and funny little stories. Such moments remind me that shared meals offer more than food — they bring relaxation and warm connection. Still, dining alone can be equally refreshing when some quiet time is needed. To me, neither choice is necessarily better; the best one is simply what we need at that moment. 词汇积累 紧张的:stressful → tense 疲惫的:exhausted → worn out 放松:relaxation → recreation 选择:choice → option 2. After a stressful morning full of classes and quizzes, I once entered the canteen exhausted. After I had a stressful morning that was full of classes and quizzes, I once entered the canteen exhausted. 1】Still, dining alone can be equally refreshing when some quiet time is needed.(运用了动名词作主语以及when引导时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】To me, neither choice is necessarily better; the best one is simply what we need at that moment.(运用了what引导表语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 52. Judy tapped “join” on the screen, her only motivation being the extra credits. “If you join the speech contest, you will gain five,” she told her friend Leo, who was lazily leaning against the wall. “Easy points,” Leo laughed, thinking a speech was just a collection of beautiful words. To save time, Judy fed the topic “My Hero” to an AI tool. Within thirty seconds, a polished text appeared: Newton, Lincoln, Tesla... The stories of virtually any famous person came alive with perfect sentences. She printed it out, feeling satisfied with this neat yet shallow, fancy article. To her, it was a quick way to win without much effort. However, the rehearsal (彩排) was a total disaster. Under the bright stage lights, she struggled to recall the long, difficult sentences. The words felt like borrowed clothes that didn’t fit. Coach Kim frowned, his eyes full of disappointment. “Good voice, Judy, but where is your heart? These aren’t your heroes.” Judy forced a smile, but the coach’s words stayed in her mind all afternoon. That night, the familiar rattle (哐当声) of metal wheels woke her up. Looking out of the window, she saw her parents pushing their food cart (小推车) into the cold darkness. Dad whispered, “Fog’s thick. Gloves ready?” Mom answered, “Always.” Watching their fading figures, Judy felt a sharp pang in her heart. Suddenly, the “heroes” in her AI-generated text seemed so far away, while the true heroes were right here in the cold wind. She sat at her laptop, deleted every word of the AI text, and typed: “My heroes leave at 4 am, so the city can eat at 7 am.” She wrote about the worn-out gloves and the smell of steaming hot dogs. The words were plain, but they breathed with true love. The contest day finally came. Judy stood behind the curtain, legs shaking. Her parents sat in the third row, still wearing their faded work jackets. Judy pressed her handwritten speech to her chest, felt her heart pounding heavily, and whispered: “Stay calm.” Then came Judy’s turn. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After two seconds’ silence, thunderous applause erupted. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Then came Judy’s turn. Stepping onto the bright stage, Judy took a deep breath and looked straight at her parents. Instead of reciting stiff fancy sentences, she spoke softly and sincerely. She shared how her parents stuck to their food cart every early morning, braving cold wind and thick fog to bring warmth to others. Her plain but heartfelt words flowed naturally. Tears welled up in her eyes as she talked about their hard work and silent dedication. The whole audience listened quietly, totally touched by her genuine story. After two seconds’ silence, thunderous applause erupted. Everyone stood up, cheering for her moving speech. Judy spotted her parents clapping warmly with tearful smiles, their eyes filled with pride. Coach Kim nodded in approval, clearly impressed by her sincere performance. Judy finally understood that true speeches lie in real feelings rather than fancy AI words. True heroes are ordinary people who stick to their duties and bring warmth to life. 词汇激活 行为类 ①走上:step onto/walk onto ②欢呼:cheer for/applause for ③理解:understand/comprehend 情绪类 ①动人的:moving/touching ②真诚的:sincere/genuine 【点睛】 【高分句型1】She shared how her parents stuck to their food cart every early morning, braving cold wind and thick fog to bring warmth to others.(运用了how引导的宾语从句和现在分词作状语) 【高分句型 1. B A book fair is an event where different types of books are displayed and sold. High-Intensity Break Exercises: An Aid for Students’ Focus D We live in a society that’s crazy about winning. B. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
