If you have to describe your personality (性格) to someone else, what will you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but knowing yourself well can help you understand your feelings and make friendships (友谊) closer.
Self-awareness (自我认知) means having a good understanding of our own personality. That is having the ability (能力) to see ourselves clearly. If you’re self-aware, you may know that you love playing basketball because you do well in it, and sport makes you happy, or that you prefer reading on your own because it helps you relax.
Knowing what you like and hate, what you do well in and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendship, schoolwork and so on. You learn to trust your own feelings more. This helps build confidence (自信). The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of ten important life skills. Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking about yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people, too.
Learning to be more self-aware is a skill. So be bold and try out new things, like joining a new club or learning a different kind of skill. Don’t be afraid to hate something. You can learn more about yourself by discovering your difficulties.

A: Hi, Mike. You look sad. _________________51_________________?
B: I had a fight with my best friend, John.
A: _________________52_________________?
B: Because he didn’t return my bike on time and it got broken.
A: Oh, that’s too bad.
B: We haven’t talked with each other for a week. But I don’t want to lose this friend. _________________53_________________?
A: Yes, I think you should communicate with him first.
B: What should I say?
A: _________________54_________________. He must feel sorry, too. Then you two can forgive each other and continue to be good friends.
B: That sounds good. Thank you for your advice.
A: _________________55_________________.
51. What happened/What’s wrong/What’s the matter (with you)
52. Why did you fight with him/Why did you have a fight with him
53. Can you help me/Can you give me some advice
54. You should say you’re sorry/You should say sorry to him
55. You’re welcome/That’s all right
上文“You look sad.”是观察到的状态,下文B直接交代了“和朋友吵架”这件事,说明A在询问Mike发生了什么事或怎么了,常用的固定句式有“What happened/What’s wrong/What’s the matter (with you)”。
因此用特殊疑问句“Why did you fight with him/Why did you have a fight with him”引出下文。
可用一般疑问句“Can you help me/Can you give me some advice”引出下文。
后句“He must feel sorry, too”里的too说明B应先道歉,才有后面的“forgive each other”。因此可填“You should say you’re sorry/You should say sorry to him”。
常用表达有“You’re welcome/That’s all right”。
