We were standing at the top of a church tower. I saw twisting streets leading to the square. “See, my dear,” Father said gently. “There is more than one way to the square.”
Fatherˈs words always guided me. Dreaming of becoming a fashion designer, I came to Paris, but without luck. Then one day I met a friend wearing a beautiful sweater. “What an interesting stitch!” I cried. “It was done by Mrs Vidian,” my friend explained. “She learned the stitch in Armenia, her native country.” Suddenly I had a daring idea. Why not design, make and sell my own clothes?
I drew a butterfly pattern and asked Mrs Vidian to knit it into a sweater. It proved a success. A New York store wanted 40 sweaters to be ready in two weeks. I accepted the order. My happiness disappeared, however, when Mrs Vidian told me it took her almost a week to knit one sweater.
I was crushed. Then I remembered Fatherˈs words. There must be other Armenian women inParis who mastered the special stitch. Then I searched for any Armenians living in Paris. At last I tracked down several. Two weeks later, the first shipment was on its way to the United States!
From that day on orders poured in. Then came another test. As I was busy getting ready to show my winter fashions, the sewing girls were called out on strike. Where was the way out of this time? I wondered and worried. Then it dawned on me.
I worked hurriedly. And right on time, my show took place. Some coats had no sleeves; some were only patterns made of heavy cotton cloth, but on these I attached material to show what colours and textures the clothes would have when they were finished. What a show! Once again Fatherˈs words helped me.
24.What problem did the author face after accepting the order?
A. It was impossible for Vidian to meet the deadline.
B. The sewing girls were called out on strike.
C. She found it hard to track Armenians living in Paris.
D. There was a shortage of suitable cloth.

A. She put off the show.
B. She showed the clothes unfinished.
C. She employed more sewing girls.
D. She completed the clothes in a hurry.
27.Which of the following might the author agree with?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Like father, like son.
C. Easier said than done. D. All roads lead to Rome.

At school our children are taught to add up and subtract but, extraordinarily, are not shown how to open a bank account—let alone how to manage their finances in an increasingly complex and demanding world.
On Jun. 21st, the parenting website Mumsnet and the consumer campaigner Martin Lewis joined forces to launch an online petition (请愿) to make financial education a compulsory element of the school curriculum in England. They said that children aged between 5 and 16 should be taught about everything from pocket money to pensions.
Consumer and parent groups believe financial education has always been one of the most confusing omissions of the curriculum. As the Personal Finance Education Group (PFEG) points out, the good habits of young children do not last long. PFEG predicts that these young people will “find it much harder to avoid the serious traps into which many of their parents have fallen unless they receive good quality financial education while at school.”
The UK has been in the grasp of the worst financial recession for generations. It does seem odd that—unless parents step in—young people are left in the dark until they are cruelly introduced to the world of debt when they turn up at university. Chris Tapp, from the money education charity Credit Action, puts it succinctly (言简意赅地): “Itˈs like weˈve been sending people to drive without first giving them instruction and then being shocked when they crash. Itˈs a no-brainer. Everybody needs to manage money and use financial products wisely and I wholeheartedly support this call to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn about finance.”
In a recent poll of over 8,000 people, 97% supported financial education in schools, while 3% said it was a job for parents. I am in favor of the majority. And what do you think—is it up to parents to encourage good habits or should financial education be entrusted to schools?
28.What conclusion can we draw from the first paragraph?
A. Children at school focus their attention upon studies.
B. Children at school donˈt get financial education.
C. Children who do well in mathematics can open a bank account.
D. Children at school can adjust to the complex and demanding world.
29.What can we infer according to Martin Lewis?
A. It is essential to teach students money management.
B. Financial education should be carried out in every country.
C. Children should save their pocket money to pay their tuition fees.
D. It is effective for consumer campaigns to launch an online petition.
30.Why does Chris Tapp refer to car crashes?
A. To stress the importance of financial education.
B. To tell us how terrible the traffic condition in the UK is.
C. To tell us the importance of financial ideas for a country.
D. To explain what an important role the government plays.
31.Whatˈs the authorˈs attitude towards financial education?
A. Neutral. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Negative.

Luis Reynoso says heˈs always tried to get involved in his childrenˈs education: attending meetings on school-improvement projects and providing classroom food. But when his youngest daughterˈs school invited families to attend the nine-week program Letˈs Change the Course organized by a leading education advocacy group here to learn about parenting and school participation, he realized his past efforts barely scratched the surface.
Each weekly session touched on different parenting themes, like setting up a special space at home for kids to do homework, like the importance of confidence. One of the most beneficial sessions, he recalls, focused on what a child should know academically in each grade and how to talk to teachers about his daughterˈs performance. “The workshops really woke me up,” says Mr. Reynoso.
Levels of parental participation in Mexican schools have long been low. Many people commonly believe a childˈs education is the schoolˈs job. In some parts of the country, a motherˈs or fatherˈs own lack of education can play into a sense that they have nothing to contribute. And even in private schools, where there might be more adults with fixed jobs, the participation is very rare, with some parents viewing their tuition (学费) bill as their educational contribution. There are also cases where the schools themselves ignore the potential of parents in a childˈs education, discouraging communication between families and schools.
But the importance of family participation is something many non-profit education advocates and recently the government are starting to home in on in Mexico. Part of Mexicoˈs 2013 national education reform stresses the importance of parents playing a more active role in their childˈs education, encouraging an increase in parental-participation programs, including Letˈs Change the Course.
Susana Castellanos, headmaster of a school in Mexico City, says, “People are recognizing we have to work together to create happy successful citizens. Itˈs no longer acceptable to set apart the roles of teachers vs parents vs school headmasters.”
32.What does Reynoso mean by the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1?
A. His previous efforts were in vain.
B. He missed the key point of participation.
C. His daughter disagreed about what he did.
D. He failed to catch the importance of school.
33.What did Reynoso find most beneficial about Letˈs Change the Course?
A. The necessity to set up a space for kids to do homework.
B. The academic requirements for kids in different periods.
C. The importance of knowing childrenˈs performance.
D. The ways to increase studentsˈ confidence.
34.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. How to contribute more to childrenˈs education.
B. How to know the levels of parental participation in Mexican schools.
C. Why schools failed to provide chances for parents to get involved.
D. Why parents played a less active role in school education in Mexico.
35.What influence did Mexicoˈs education reform have?
A. The number of parental-participation programs rose.
B. Many non-profit educational organizations were set up.
C. Teachersˈ role in school education started to get increased.
D. Parents began to attach importance to childrenˈs education.

A Great Way to Teach Children to Take Responsibility
As parents, one of the most important things to teach children to take responsibility is to include chores as a part of their daily routine. In order to make a family function smoothly, every member must contribute. Teaching your children to take responsibility at an early age makes it easier for them to shoulder greater responsibilities as they grow older.
(36) If your children leave their crayons lying on the table after drawing, picking up those crayons is not a chore. It is cleaning up a mess they have created. (37)
(38) For example, if it is to feed the dog every day, make sure the children understand that if they fail in their responsibility, the dog will go hungry.
Make rewards and punishments a part of the lesson. Together decide whether they will be rewarded or not. (39) Some parents make their reward a monetary payment, while others choose to reward with certain privileges, such as extra television viewing time.
Children need to be taught that there are punishments for their actions in case of not doing their assigned chores. Decide and agree from the start what the punishment will be.
Teaching your children the importance of contributing to the family is of great importance. (40) By taking this step, you have done a wonderful thing for your children by providing them with life skills they can take with them into society.
A. A chore is a specific task a child has been assigned which helps improve the life of the entire family.
B. And what punishment they will receive if a chore isnˈt done.
C. Actually you are taking a critical step in empowering them for their future.
D. Start by teaching children the difference between a chore and cleaning up after themselves.
E. Teach children the importance of each assignment, and why it matters.
F. Children will not be rewarded at all for merely cleaning up.
G. And if so, what the reward will be for a job well done.

I was walking down the muddy road one day when my cell phone rang. A child's voice on the other end spoke to me softly, "Dad, please come back soon. I miss you so much!" Unconsciously, I knew it was a wrong number once again. I don't have a single daughter. I just have a six-year-old son. It is not unusual to receive this kind of calls nowadays, so I replied rudely, "You've dialed the wrong number!" and then hung up in anger.
During the following days, I got the same call now and then. It disturbed me, so I either rejected her or hung up right away rudely. I couldn't help complaining about this, "What an impolite girl! How can she call me up over and over again?" How I wished the little girl would stop causing any trouble to me some day! Suddenly, the phone rang up again. It was from the same girl- It seemed that she would not give up until she got an answer.
She constantly called me up. Even if I did not give her an answer, she still dialed my number from time to time. Eventually I unwillingly answered the phone. 1 heard the weak voice of that little girl, "Dad, please come back now. I miss you so much! Mom told me this was not a wrong number. It is your cell phone number, right? Dad, I am in so much pain! Mom said you were too busy to take care of me. She is tired out from looking after me. Dad, I know you are busy. If you cannot come home, please kiss me again in the phone, OK?" The innocent request was difficult to reject. I made a loud kiss into the phone and heard a weak voice saying, "Thank you... Dad, I am so... happy, so... happy."

66. Dear editor,
Nowadays,an increasing number of foreigners choose to learn Chinese, which has drawn wide attention.I’m writing to voice my opinions on the popular trend.
Two major reasons contribute to the Chinese boom. For one thing, with China’s rapid economic growth, our country plays an increasingly important role on the international stage.A good command of Chinese enables foreigners to get more opportunities in international trade and cross-cultural cooperation. For another,China boasts a time‑honored history and profound culture. Many foreigners are deeply fascinated by Chinese festivals, classical literature and traditional customs,so they turn to learn Chinese to explore the charm behind these cultural treasures.
To learn Chinese well, learners ought to speak bravely in daily communication instead of fearing mistakes. Moreover, watching Chinese films and reading simple Chinese articles will help them grasp real‑life expressions.Wish more people enjoy the charm of Chinese.
Yours,
Li Hua
67. Shortly after this, I became interested in who had been on the other end of my phone. When I called the number back, a woman answered, "Sorry, sir. I am really sorry to bother you. I did want to call to apologize." From the woman, I learnt that the girl had bone cancer when she was born, and unfortunately her father died in an accident weeks ago. The little girl suffered from unbearable treatment every day. Feeling painful, she would cry for her dad who had always encouraged her, so her mother gave her a random number.
I couldn't wait to ask the woman how her daughter was. The woman thought for a while, saying sadly, "She has gone. You must have kissed her on the phone, and she went with a smile as she tightly held the cell phone with which she could hear her voice..." On hearing this, I couldn't keep back my sad feeling, tears streaming down my cheeks. I didn't know what to say, so I slowly hang up my phone, praying for her happiness and health in heaven.

根据第三段中的“A New York store wanted 40 sweaters... I accepted the order.”以及画线词上文“Then I searched for... I tracked down several.”
根据最后一段中的“Some coats had no sleeves... when they were finished.”
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中的“There is more than one way to the square.”
根据第二段第一句“On Jun. 21st, the parenting website Mumsnet and the consumer campaigner Martin Lewis joined forces to launch an online petition to make financial education a compulsory element of the school curriculum in England.” 故选A。
根据第四段中的“Chris Tapp ... puts it succinctly: ‘Itˈs like weˈve been sending people to drive without first giving them instruction and then being shocked when they crash ... I wholeheartedly support this call to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn about finance.ˈ”可知,作者以Chris Tapp提出的撞车为比喻,说明后文提到的每个人都需要明智地管理金钱和使用金融产品,其目的是强调金融教育的重要性。故选A。
根据文章最后一段中的“In a recent poll of over 8,000 people, 97% supported financial education in schools, while 3% said it was a job for parents. I am in favor of the majority.”

故选A。
36.根据后句“If your children leave their crayons lying on the table after drawing, picking up those crayons is not a chore. It is cleaning up a mess they have created.”可推知本空应该是说打扫卫生和做家务并不一样,D选项“Start by teaching children the difference between a chore and cleaning up after themselves. (从教孩子们做家务和自己打扫卫生之间的区别开始。)”符合题意。
37.根据空格前面的内容:如果你的孩子在画画之后将蜡笔留在桌上,那么收拾这些蜡笔就不是琐事,而是收拾打扫他们所造成的乱糟糟的环境。那么接下来就应当讲述一下什么是琐事这个定义。因此A选项切合题意。
38.根据后句“For example, if it is to feed the dog every day, make sure the children understand that if they fail in their responsibility, the dog will go hungry.”
39. 根据后句“Some parents make their reward a monetary payment, while others choose to reward with certain privileges, such as extra television viewing time.”
40.根据后句“By taking this step”可知,this step应该是指代本空中执行的一个办法。C选项“Actually you are taking a critical step in empowering them for their future.”

根据下一句“The winners could get a yearˈs free sweets from candy companies.”
根据句中“so I learned to make fudge at home”可知,作者决定在家学做软糖,准备参加比赛,可见这个奖励对作者非常有吸引力。故选C。
故选A。
根据上一句“I tried a dozen times, 43 with little success.”和本句中“that maybe I wasnˈt cut out for this”可知,作者多次尝试,却未能成功,所以作者会认为自己可能不是这块料,不适合做这个。故选B。

根据第二段“About twenty years ago, there was ...” 故选A。
根据第一段“And he said he wanted some fudge (软糖) made by me as a gift.”和上一句“Harold remembered me telling of the 46 .”
根据句中“afraid that I could go 49 ”和下文“Finally, I made it to the last step, which said I should ‘stir the cooked mixture until it doesnˈt look shinyˈ.” 故选A。
根据下文的“Then something 53 happened—the fudge hardened to a perfect degree!”
根据上一句“Then I put it aside to let it harden”和下一句“Then something 53 happened”可知,作者先把软糖放在一边,等它硬化,过一会再去查看。故选C。
根据第二段“I tried a dozen times”和第三段“ready for another failure”可知,作者最终的成功应该是来自自己多次尝试失败的经验。故选D。
故选A。

Yours,
Li Hua
