Mike Shepherd(2011) Skiddaw in Winter Cumbria, England It was an extremely cold winter’s evening and freezing fog hung in the air. I climbed to the top of a small rise and realised that the mist was little more than a few feet deep, and though it was only a short climb, I found myself completely above it and looking at a wonderfully clear view of Skiddaw with the sun setting in the west. I used classical techniques, translated from my college days spent in the darkroom into Photoshop, to achieve the black—and—white image(图像). Timothy Smith(2014) Macclesfield Forest Cheshire, England I was back in my home town of Macclesfield to take some winter images. Walking up a path through the forest towards Shutlingsloe. a local high point, I came across a small clearing and immediately noticed the dead yellow grasses set against the fresh snow. The small pine added to the interest and I placed it centrally to take the view from the foreground right through into the forest. 1. Who would most probably enter for Take a view? A. Writers. B. Photographers. C. Painters. D. Tourists. 2. What do the works by Shepherd and Smith have in common? A. They are winter images. B. They are in black and white. C. They show mountainous scenes. 根据第一段“Take a view, the Landscape(风景)Photographer of the Year Award, was the idea of Charlie Waite, one of today’s most respected landscape photographers.( Take a view,年度风景摄影师奖是Charlie Waite的主意,他是当今最受尊敬的风景摄影师之一。)” 根据Mike Shepherd部分“It was an extremely cold winter’s evening and freezing fog hung in the air.(那是一个极其寒冷的冬天的晚上,空气中弥漫着冰冷的雾。)”和Timothy Smith部分“I was back in my home town of Macclesfield to take some winter images.(我回到我的家乡Macclesfield拍摄一些冬季的照片。)” 故选A。 根据第一段“Each year, the high standard of entries has shown that the Awards are the perfect platform to showcase the very best photography of the British landscape. Take a view is a desirable annual competition for photographers from all comers of the UK and beyond.(每年参赛作品的高水准表明,该奖项是展示英国风景最佳摄影作品的完美平台。 对于英国和世界各地的摄影师来说,Take a view是一项令人向往的年度竞赛。)”结合下文对两位获奖者及其作品的介绍,可知这篇文章主要介绍了摄影比赛Take a view以及获奖的相关情况,最可能出现在一本艺术杂志上。故选C。 B A bunch of strangers showed up at the gym in the early morning of the last Sunday of April. A few athletes were already stretching (拉伸) their arms, but most of us could barely focus. As I was burning off last night’s wrong decision-a big meal, I spotted a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. I always wanted to train fora marathon, so I considered this as my warm-up. Besides, I needed to stop being lazy and this was my chance to make a change. It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制) wouldn’t be easy. I stuck to working out 30 minutes a day, and I didn’t disturb (干扰) my normal routine. Instead, I had to be faced with the tough work of being more creative in my spare time, thus breaking some bad habits. Overcoming weaknesses with willpower was my goal for the next part of the journey. But the difficult part about making a challenge is realizing that “wanting” and “doing” are two very different things. Just like a career, you have to physically work for it rather than just wait for it to happen. But that’s hard. Throughout the 21 days, I often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. However, finally I overcame that negative thought and kept working out. At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing them. I had fewer headaches and more energy, and was simply happier. I even felt a little smarter as I researched which foods were better for my body, and learned how to make healthier meals. I felt a sense of accomplishment (成就), too, because even though I wanted to give up dozens of times, I didn’t. I felt my waist got smaller and my arms got stronger, and I no longer felt guilty after having a piece of cake or a drink. 4. What was the author’s wrong decision? A. Going to the gym early. B. Training for a marathon. C. Eating a lot the previous night. D. Stopping being lazy for a change. 5. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Some of the author’s bad habits. B. Some ways of the author’s killing his spare time. C. The importance of sticking to the normal daily routine. D. The difficulty of the author’s keeping on with the workout plan. 6. What does the underlined word “sabotage” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. stop. B. hear. C. improve. D. recognize. 7. What did the author learn from the workout challenge? A. Eating healthy food is more important than exercising. B. Overcoming a challenge could bring good feelings to him. C. It’s more important to see what he likes than just feel it. D. There was no need to feel guilty about things he disliked to do. C 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第一段中“As I was burning off last night’s wrong decision — a big meal, I spotted a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. (当我正在为昨晚的错误决定——一顿大餐——而精疲力竭时,我看到了一张关于健身房21天锻炼挑战的海报,我立即报名参加了)”可知,昨晚作者做了一个错误的决定:吃了一顿大餐,因此作者的错误决定是前一天晚上吃得很多。故选C项。 2.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制) wouldn’t be easy. (在纸上承诺很容易,但三周的推荐锻炼计划和饮食限制并不容易)”可知,将承诺写在纸上是很容易的,但是坚持三个星期的锻炼和饮食限制并不容易,因此该段的主要内容是作者坚持锻炼计划的困难。故选D项。 3.词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Throughout the 21 days, I often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. A. stop阻止;B. hear听到;C. improve改善;D. recognize认可。 故选A项。 4. 根据第四段中的“At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing them. C The benefits of regular exercise are well documented but there’s a new bonus to add to the ever-growing list. New researchers found that middle-aged women who were physically fit could be nearly 90 percent less likely to develop dementia in later life, and as they did, it came on a decade later than less sporty women. Lead researcher Dr. Helena Horder, of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, said : "These findings are exciting because it’s possible that improving people's cardiovascular (心血管的)fitness in middle age could delay or even prevent them from developing dementia. " For the study, 191 women with an average age of 50 took a bicycle exercise test until they were exhausted to measure their peak (最大值的) cardiovascular capacity. The average peak workload was measured at 103 watts. A total of 40 women met the criteria for a high fitness level, or 120 watts or higher. A total of 92 women were in the medium fitness category; and 59 women were in the low fitness category, defined as a peak workload of 80 watts or less, or having their exercise tests stopped because of high blood pressure, chest pain or other cardiovascular problems. These women were then tested for dementia six times over the following four decades. During that time, 44 of the women developed dementia. Five percent of the highly fit women developed dementia, compared to 25 percent of the women with medium fitness and 32 percent of the women with low fitness. "However, this study does not show cause and effect between cardiovascular fitness and dementia, it only shows an association. More research is needed to see if improved fitness could have a positive effect on the risk of dementia and also to look at when during a lifetime a high fitness level is most important. " She also admitted that a relatively small number of women were studied, all of whom were form Sweden, so the results might not be applicable to other groups. 8. What is on the ever-growing list mentioned in the first paragraph? A. Positive effects of doing exercises. B. Exercises suitable for the middle-aged. C. Experimental studies on diseases. D. Advantages of sporty woman over man 9. Why did the researchers ask the women to do bicycle exercise? A. To predict their maximum heart rate. B. To assess their cardiovascular capacity C. To change their habits of working out D. To detect their potential health problems 10. What do we know about Dr Horder's study? A. It aimed to find a cure for dementia. B. Data collection was a lengthy process. C. Some participants withdrew from it. D. The results were far from satisfactory. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. More Women Are Exercising to Prevent Dementia B. Middle-Aged Women Need to Do More Exercise C. Fit Women Are Less Likely to Develop Dementia D. Biking Improves Women's Cardiovascular Fitness 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段“New researchers found that middle-aged women who were physically fit could be nearly 90 percent less likely to develop dementia (失智症) in later life, and as they did, it came on a decade later than less sporty women.”(新的研究人员发现,身体健康的中年女性在晚年患痴呆症的可能性要低近90%,而且确实如此,与不太喜欢运动的女性相比,她们患痴呆症的时间要晚十年。) 故选A项。 根据上文“These findings are exciting because it’s possible that improving people's cardiovascular fitness in middle age could delay or even prevent them from developing dementia.”(这些发现令人兴奋,因为在中年时改善人们的心血管健康可能会延缓甚至防止他们患上痴呆症。)以及本段“For the study, 191 women with an average age of 50 took a bicycle exercise test until they were exhausted to measure their peak cardiovascular capacity.”(在这项研究中,191名平均年龄为50岁的女性进行了自行车运动测试,直到她们精疲力竭,以测量她们的心血管峰值能力。) 根据文章第五段“These women were then tested for dementia six times over the following four decades.”(这些女性在随后的四十年里测试了六次失智症状况。) 根据文章第一段“New researchers found that middle-aged women who were physically fit could be nearly 90 percent less likely to develop dementia (失智症) in later life, and as they did, it came on a decade later than less sporty women.”(新的研究人员发现,身体健康的中年女性在晚年患痴呆症的可能性要低近90%,而且确实如此,与不太喜欢运动的女性相比,她们患痴呆症的时间要晚十年。) D A massive concrete-and-glass structure hangs above traffic on Wilshire Boulevard. It is the new home of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the largest art museum in western America. Its daring architecture is not the only unusual thing about it. “We’ve given up traditional categories of geography,” says Michael Govan, LACMA’s director. “The idea is to wander.” The museum’s single floor treats all artworks equally: no one movement is presented as more important than another. The museum is loosely organized around oceans to emphasize trade and cultural exchange. The Indian Ocean section, for example, includes Turkish ceramics (瓷器) with blue-and-white flower patterns, influenced by earlier Chinese designs. LACMA’s break from conventional organization symbolizes a movement towards global galleries as the global economy expands. London’s Tate Modern traditionally centered on Western European art. However, it rearranged its works by theme after 2000 to highlight cultural links. The press hated it. In 2019, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) rejected fixed long-term displays. Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” will probably always be on view but the neighbouring wall will sometimes hold photography. Such an adaptable approach allows for unexpected encounters. Yet not everyone may appreciate it. What is a thoughtful contrast to one visitor may be hard to understand for another. At LACMA a giant coffee table shows off ceramics from various eras. Why? Visitors who can scan QR codes will find out; the rest will merely wonder. But if such experiments fail to impress, curators (策展人) can rearrange the art again. Museums should not be inflexible palaces for artworks, many curators argue: they should reflect their surroundings and times. At the new LACMA, says Govan, “We don’t go into a dark box and somebody tells us what to think.” Rather, it tries to be in conversation with Los Angeles (LA). Architecturally, the museum’s uneven shape and floor-to-ceiling windows frame the palm trees (棕榈树) and hills, putting LA itself on display. 12. What is special about the new LACMA? A. Displaying artworks flexibly. B. Stressing ocean movement. C. Treating artworks differently. D. Featuring Chinese designs. 13. Why does the writer mention Tate Modern and MoMA? A. To compare them with LACMA. B. To highlight an exhibition trend. C. To promote long-term displays. D. To explain economic globalization. 14. What is a potential problem with the new exhibition style? A. It limits the variety of artworks. B. It depends on QR code technology. C. It brings little profit to art galleries. D. It causes confusion for some visitors. 15. What can be inferred about the new museum from the last paragraph? A. It values architecture over artworks. B. It may raise argument over art styles. C. It can mirror environments and times. D. It guides how visitors view the art world. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段“The museum’s single floor treats all artworks equally: no one movement is presented as more important than another.(博物馆的单层展厅对所有艺术作品一视同仁:没有任何一种艺术运动被视作比另一种更重要)”可知,新LACMA展出艺术作品具有灵活性。 根据第三段“LACMA’s break from conventional organization symbolizes a movement towards global galleries as the global economy expands. London’s Tate Modern traditionally centered on Western European art. However, it rearranged its works by theme after 2000 to highlight cultural links. The press hated it. In 2019, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) rejected fixed long-term displays.(洛杉矶郡艺术博物馆(LACMA)的组织方式突破传统,象征着在全球经济不断扩张的背景下,向全球性美术馆发展。伦敦泰特现代美术馆过去一直以西欧艺术为中心,但自2000年后,它根据主题重新编排展品,以突出文化联系。这一做法遭到媒体的批评。2019年,现代艺术博物馆(MoMA)也拒绝了长期固定展览模式)”可知,作者提到泰特现代美术馆和现代艺术博物馆是为了突出展览趋势。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“What is a thoughtful contrast to one visitor may be hard to understand for another. At LACMA a giant coffee table shows off ceramics from various eras. Why? Visitors who can scan QR codes will find out; the rest will merely wonder.(对一位访客而言,一个深思熟虑的对比可能难以被另一位理解。在洛杉矶县艺术博物馆(LACMA),一张巨大的咖啡桌陈列着不同时代的陶瓷作品。为什么?扫描二维码的游客会明白;其余人则只能感到纳闷)”可知,新展览风格可能存在的一个潜在问题是:它会让部分参观者感到困惑。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Museums should not be inflexible palaces for artworks, many curators argue: they should reflect their surroundings and times.(许多策展人认为,博物馆不应是僵化的艺术宫殿,而应反映其周围环境和时代背景)”可知,新博物馆能够反映环境和时代。 Much of the work in today’s world is accomplished(完成) in teams. Most people believe the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals. ___16___Companies spend millions hiring top business people. Is their money well spent? ___17___They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. For football and basketball, adding talented players to a team proves a good method, but only up to the point where 70% of the players are top talent; above that level, the team’s performance begins to decline. Interestingly, this trend isn’t evident in baseball, where additional individual talent keeps improving the team’s performance. To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate(协调) their actions. ___18___In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates. They conclude that when task interdependence is high, team performance will suffer when there is too much talent, while individual talent will have positive effects on team performance when task interdependence is lower. If a basketball star is, for example, trying to gain a high personal point total, he may take a shot himself when it would be better to pass the ball to a teammate, affecting the team’s performance. Young children learning to play team sports are often told, “There is no I in TEAM.” ___19___ Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort. Just as in a game of tug-of-war(拔河比赛), whenever a person is added, everyone else pulls the rope with less force. ___20___ An A-team may require a balance--not just A players, but a few generous B players as well. A. It’s not a simple matter to determine the nature of talent. B. Sports team owners spend millions of dollars attracting top talent. C. The group interaction and its effect drew the researchers’ attention. D. Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship. E. Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world. F. Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent. G. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball. 16. B 17. E 18. G 19. D 20. Her art teacher told her about an upcoming local youth arts show — and she’d already started preparing for it. However, her parents, both practicing doctors, urged her to go into medicine, arguing it would give her a stable and secure future. One evening at dinner, her father said firmly, “It’s time you start preparing for the medical school entrance exams. You’re smart and hard-working — you’ll surely thrive in this field.” Sarah set down her fork, disappointment clouding her eyes. “But I don’t want to be a doctor,” she insisted. “Painting is what I’m truly passionate about.” Her mother sighed softly, “Art is a wonderful hobby, but it doesn’t pay the bills. You need to be practical about your future.” Growing frustrated, Sarah stood up, stormed to her bedroom, and locked the door. Staring at her half-finished painting, tears welled up in her eyes — trapped between her love for art and her parents’ expectations. That night, Sarah lay awake, tossing and turning. She hated the thought of letting down her supportive parents, yet she couldn’t bear the idea of giving up her dream. The next day at school, her best friend Lily noticed her gloom and asked what was wrong. After Sarah poured out her troubles, Lily advised, “Follow your heart — but prove to your parents how serious you are about painting.” Taking Lily’s advice, Sarah spent the weekend crafting a series of paintings that laid bare her emotions. She also looked up artists who’d built successful careers out of their art. On Monday evening, she asked her parents into her room, showed them her portfolio (作品集) and notes, and said, “I know you’re worried, but I believe I can make it as an artist — selling online, teaching, or doing custom work. Please give me a chance.” Her parents listened quietly, their faces softening as they looked over her work. After Sarah finished speaking, there was a long silence in the room. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, Sarah received a surprising call from her art teacher. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 After Sarah finished speaking, there was a long silence in the room. Her father picked up one of her paintings, staring at the vivid colors and careful brushstrokes. “These are really thoughtful,” he said softly. Her mother nodded, reaching out to wipe the remaining tears from Sarah’s cheek. “We were worried you hadn’t thought about the future,” she admitted. “But seeing how hard you’ve worked, we’re willing to support you.” Sarah hugged them tightly, tears of joy replacing her earlier sorrow. They agreed to let her take art classes while keeping up with her studies. A week later, Sarah received a surprising call from her art teacher. Her art teacher encouraged her to take part in the local youth arts show and told her the details. With her parents' help, she selected three best works from her portfolio. On the opening day, her paintings caught the eye of a gallery owner, who offered to display her work. Standing beside her parents, watching people admire her art, Sarah knew she had made the right choice. Her parents smiled proudly, realizing that passion, paired with effort, could indeed build a bright future. 词汇激活 行为类 ①凝视:stare at/gaze at ②伸出手:reach out/stretch out ③承认:admit/confess 情绪类 ①担心的:worried/concerned ②悲伤:sorrow/sadness/grief 【点睛】【高分句型1】Her father picked up one of her paintings, staring at the vivid colors and careful brushstrokes.(运用了现在分词作状语) 【高分句型2】But seeing how hard you’ve worked, we’re willing to support you.(运用了how引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型3】On the opening day, her paintings caught the eye of a gallery owner, who offered to display her work.(运用了who引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 琼海市嘉积中学2026—2027学年度第一学期高三年级随堂练习(二) 英语科试题 (时间:120分钟 满分:150分) 欢迎你参加这次测试,祝你取得好成绩! 1. D. B A bunch of strangers showed up at the gym in the early morning of the last Sunday of April. Biking Improves Women's Cardiovascular Fitness D A massive concrete-and-glass structure hangs above traffic on Wilshire Boulevard. Much of the work in today’s world is accomplished(完成) in teams. I recently visited the Boston Museum of Fine Arts — my first visit to an art museum in several years. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
