Having a class together was also a way to share an activity together. When I finished my homework, I usually did a lot of painting. And I often asked my twin brother to join me. So we could create something amazing.

A saying goes, “If you have no talent (天赋), then repeat until you do.” This means that success often comes from practice, not just natural talent.
Practice improves our memory and skills. When a pianist plays the same piece of music hundreds of times, he or she can play it skillfully. When a runner trains every day, he or she will become much faster. Each time we repeat something, it becomes easier.
The idea that long hours of practice lead to great skill supports this view. It’s said that spending thousands of hours on a skill can help a person become an expert (专家). Many successful people have reached high levels in their fields through consistent practice.
▲ To truly improve, you need to practise with a clear purpose. Without a clear goal, you might find repeating boring and even give up.
More importantly, effective methods (方法) are the key to successful practice. Good practice means focusing on your weak points and using smart ways to improve. For example, a basketball player who practises shooting in the right way and thinks about his or her mistakes will improve much faster than one who just throws the ball again and again.
All in all, hard work alone is not enough. When we combine practice with clear goals and effective methods, we can achieve real success. Remember, it’s not just about how much you practise, but how you practise.
41.Why does the writer list the two examples in paragraph 2?
A.To compare different kinds of training.
B.To explain how talent works in success.
C.To show practice can make skills perfect.
D.To show how to become a pianist or a good runner.
42.What does the idea of long-hour practice suggest?
A.Better late than never. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Many hands make light work. D.Actions speak louder than words.
43.Which of the following is best for ▲ ?
A.But simply repeating a task isn’t enough.
B.But talent is also important in some areas.
C.However, practice always takes much time.
D.So we need to practise as much as possible.
44.What might happen if you practise without a clear goal?
A.You will find the task more difficult.
B.You might get bored and stop practising.
C.You will have to repeat the task more times.
D.You might forget what you have learned easily.
45.What is the best title for the passage?
A.How to become an excellent expert
B.The importance of talent in success
C.The part of long hours in learning a skill
D.The right way to practise leads to success
【答案】41.C 42.B 43.A 44.B 45.D

Military training in China usually teaches students things like standing at attention, goose-stepping (正步走) and folding a quilt. Some students say that it is not useful. But some students feel it encourages them to behave more independently and responsibly.
The US
US schools don’t force (强迫) students to take military training. If children are interested in the military, they can attend military camps. These activities help children work in a team and encourage them to work out problems together. For example, a group might have the task of climbing over a high wall. If even one person cannot climb over the wall the whole group needs to do it again. So everyone must help each other and finish the task in groups.
The UK
The UK pays attention to military training for students, especially college students. There are Officer Training Corps (军官训练团, OTC) in some universities. They offer chances to students to learn military skills like first aid, weapons (武器) training and radio communications. Students can make money by taking part in military exercises. They can earn up to £60 per day. If they spend more time on the training, they will make more money.

When I wasn’t sure how to work out a maths problem, I always went to my twin brother over my twin sister. After we moved to the US, my twin brother and I had separate (分开的) classes until high school.
Across the US, it is common that twins study in different classrooms. The so-called reason is that twins should have some independence (独立) and make friends with other classmates. In their eyes, it’s not good for twins to share the same classroom.
However, when we were in high school, our teacher made us study in the same class. From being in the same class, my twin brother and I witnessed (见证) each other engaging actively and, in some cases, gamely with other people. For example, one day, our class played a game called Scattergories. The teacher gave us the letter “S” and told us to give a reason why someone would be late for school. I thought of “stomach”. In my naive (天真的) mind, put it although not thinking someone would hate if they got my brother, and my teacher’s thinking my classmates, including my brother, stone(石头). That’s not what everyone thought, though.
Having a class together was also a way to share an activity together. When I finished my homework, I usually did a lot of painting. And I often asked my twin brother to join me. So we could create something amazing.

They are big. As the world’s largest rodents (啮齿动物), adult capybaras can weigh up to 50kg. They are as heavy as some humans! They can be up to 130 cm tall. Although they are fat, they can run fast at a speed of up to 35 km/h.
They love water. Capybaras spend a lot of time in water. Their special feet help them move quickly through water, and they can also stay underwater for up to five minutes at a time. Capybaras like to sleep in water to avoid (避免) getting sunburnt.
They have an unusual diet. Capybaras love to eat hard grasses, which need to be chewed (咀嚼) many times. To finish the long chewing, capybaras’ teeth never stop growing. Capybaras also eat their own waste. They do this because the grasses they eat are too hard to digest (消化). By eating its waste, a capybara can get useful bacteria (细菌) into its stomach to help it digest food.

Military training is not just a Chinese tradition. Students around the world also have it. Let’s take a look!
China
