Ⅱ.听填信息
本题你将听到一段独白,读两遍。请根据独白内容,用所听到的信息完成下列各题。(每空不超过三个单词。)
My grandpa is seventy years old this year. He often tells me stories about his past. He was born in a small village in Shaanxi. When he was a child, his family was poor. There were no supermarkets at that time. People had to buy things with tickets — rice tickets, oil tickets and even soap tickets. Grandpa went to school on foot every day, and it took him almost an hour. The village was far from the town, and there was only one small shop there. There were no televisions, so he enjoyed radio shows for fun.
Now Grandpa’s life has changed a lot. He lives with us in the city. He takes the subway to the park every morning and pays by mobile phone. He often says, “Life today is like a dream. We should value what we have and work hard for a better future.”

Mrs. Li is over 80 years old. She has lived in Beijing all her life. A reporter interviewed her yesterday. The following are their questions and answers.
Q: What was your life like in the past?
A: My family lived in a tiny house. My father was a postman, and he often worked twelve hours a day outside in the winter cold or in the summer heat. My mum was a farm girl before she met my father. She was a kind and loving mother. She didn’t go out to work. There were five children in my family, and looking after us was more than a full-time job.
The food we ate was simple. We could only eat meat once or twice a year. I couldn’t go to school because my family couldn’t afford it.
Q: How has life changed?
A: Families have got smaller than they were in the past. The role of women has changed too. My daughter is really lucky. She has a good education. I’m happy that she can go to work even after getting married, but sometimes I feel lonely because she can’t come to see me often.
Transport and travel are easier today. When I was young, I went everywhere on foot. Now you can take the bus, drive the car or ride the shared bikes. What I don’t like is that there’s so much more traffic. It’s so difficult to cross the road. And, of course, we have televisions today and I really enjoy watching TV. But I hate some of the shows because they are too noisy for me.
Generally speaking, I think life is better today. We eat better and we live longer.

To me, one of the most inspiring people in Chinese history is Confucius (551-479 BCE). It is said that Confucius was a great teacher. He opened private schools for common people when education was only for rich families. He also travelled across many states to spread his ideas. But in fact, above all, he was a great thinker.
Confucius lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. Back then, society was in great disorder. Many states fought with one another, and ordinary people suffered a lot from wars and unfair rules. To Confucius, society needed order and kindness, so he spent his lifetime trying to teach people to be polite, honest and caring.
His idea of ren (benevolence) was the core (核心) of his thought. It was important to him that everyone should love and respect others. He believed good rulers should care for their people. He told us that we should never do to others what we would not want others to do to us.
Though Confucius lived more than 2,000 years ago, his ideas live on. Now, more than ever, people around the world need to hear his message of kindness and good manners, and learn to get along well with each other.
( ) 43. What was Confucius above all?
A. A traveller. B. A great thinker. C. A soldier. D. A woodworker.
( ) 44. What did Confucius spend his life trying to do?
