W: We’re talking with Yang Wei, who just returned home to China after living in San Francisco for one year. What would you say is the biggest difference between your life in America and your life in China?
M: I guess the most obvious one would be the food culture. In Beijing, people eat out a lot, and people tend to be much more loud and outgoing in restaurants. For example, in China, it is common to see people drinking and talking loudly in the middle of a restaurant. In America, however, people like to enjoy a quiet meal. If you are too loud, the waiter might come over to your table and remind you to keep it down, and they would certainly not serve you drink if you appear drunk.
W: What about the variety of food?
M: This is where America might have the advantage. Although Chinese food is unbelievably varied, I would have to say that the quality of food from all over the world is better in the States. While there are many Africans, Europeans, and North Americans in China, there are even fewer people from the Middle East, South America, and the Caribbean. As a result, it is harder to find really good food from those areas. But America has always been a country of immigrants (移民), so this is one area in which it just might be No.1 in the world.
W: Interestingly. Why don’t we take some questions from the audience?

20. What are the French people like in the speaker’s opinion?
A. A bit cold. B. Very generous. C. Quite friendly.
C 18. B 19. A 20. A
Hello, everyone. I’m very happy to be invited to this programme today. I’d like to share with you my impression of Paris. Actually, there’s something interesting to see in every corner of Paris. The weather’s been great too. Some aspects of life here are different from those in the US. The most obvious thing is that there are much more activities in the streets. People gather together in open markets, cafes, parks and squares. Then, of course, there’s the food. It’s beautifully shown in windows and at markets. Everything is fresh. I’ve gained five pounds since I arrived. There are a few things that bother me, though. I’m still having a hard time with the language. People speak very fast and it’s hard to get them to repeat things. People, I think, are less warm here and it’s hard to make friends. I guess that can be true for us strangers in any big city in a new country.

Plants cannot run away from danger, so they have developed special ways to fight against insects. Some plants produce bad-tasting chemical substances inside their leaves to keep plant-eating insects away.
Scientists have long known that certain plants can send warning signals to nearby plants. When one plant gets attacked by insects, it releases special volatile chemicals into the air. Neighboring plants receive these chemical signals and start producing defensive chemicals ahead of time. In this way they prepare themselves for possible insect attacks.
Scientists once thought this airborne warning only happened among plants of similar species. New research shows the communication can happen between totally different plant species as well. In one controlled experiment, tomato plants being eaten by caterpillars sent out warning gas signals. Receiving the signals, nearby corn plants increased their self-defense chemical production, even though tomatoes and corn belong to completely different plant families.
There are still unsolved questions. Researchers are still studying exactly how different plant species recognize and understand these air-borne chemical messages. The findings may bring practical value for agriculture. In the future, farmers might make use of such plant warning systems to reduce pesticide use on farmland.
24. Why do some plants create bad-tasting chemicals?
A. To attract helpful insects. B. To avoid being eaten by insects.
C. To speed up their own growth. D. To compete with nearby plants for sunlight.
25. What will neighboring plants do after receiving airborne warning signals?
A. They will release poisonous liquid on leaves.
B. They will produce defensive chemicals in advance.
C. They will grow new leaves very quickly.
D. They will move their leaves away from danger.
26. What is the new discovery from the experiment?
A. Insects can change the chemical signals given by plants.
B. Plants can communicate across different species.
C. Corn plants seldom suffer from caterpillar attacks.
D. Tomato plants are the most sensitive warning-sending plants.
27. What possible application can this research bring?
A. Developing new kinds of high-yield farm crops
B. Creating totally pesticide-free farmland immediately.
C. Helping farmers cut down pesticide usage.
D. Improving the taste of farm vegetables.
B 25. B 26. B 27. C

根据第三段中的“New research shows the communication can happen between totally different plant species as well. (新研究表明,这种交流也可以发生在完全不同的植物物种之间)”以及该段后续关于番茄和玉米的实验描述可知,新的发现是植物可以进行跨物种交流。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“The findings may bring practical value for agriculture. In the future, farmers might make use of such plant warning systems to reduce pesticide use on farmland. (这些发现可能为农业带来实用价值。未来,农民或许可以利用这种植物预警系统来减少农田中的农药使用)”可知,这项研究可能带来的应用是帮助农民减少农药用量。
C
Ayi is a 22-year-old girl from Kashgar, Xinjiang. She became well-known in a new season of the TV programme, which tells people how young people build their careers after leaving school. The programme followed 12 students who studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). As the youngest one, Ayi at first was unnoticed. By the end of the season, however, she surprised all with her great progress.
Ayi was not from a family of doctors. Her earliest interest in traditional medicine was awakened in her old town. In that place, people believed mutton soup cured illness faster than seeing doctors in hospital. When her grandmother died of illness, she realized good doctors are needed in this place. That was when she decided to become one to serve the people there.
In 2018, thanks to an education program for Xinjiang middle school students, Ayi had a chance to study in a Shenzhen high school. Three years later, she was accepted by Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
However, the road to becoming a TCM doctor was never easy. For her, it’s especially difficult to understand ancient Chinese medical books. “Terms (术语), like yin and yang, were totally a new way of thinking. So I was always half a step behind my classmates,” Ayi said. To catch up, she put in more time and developed a study method of her own. Along with her schoolwork, Ayi got practical experience by taking part in more than 13 volunteer activities.
Ayi’s greatest dream is to return to Xinjiang and use her TCM knowledge to serve local people. “Back in Kashgar, I know many people don’t look for medical care, so I believe it’s deeply meaningful to use TCM, which is simple, cheap and works well,” Ayi said.
28. Why did Ayi become famous in the TV programme?
A. Because she made great progress.
B. Because she learned TCM by herself.
C. Because she is the youngest one.
D. Because she got best scores in the school.
29. What made Ayi decide to be a doctor?
A. The dream of her family. B. The medical needs in her hometown.
C. The advice from her grandmother. D. The visit to the local hospital.
30. Which word can best describe Ayi?
A. Honest. B. Friendly. C. Hard-working. D. Humorous.
31. What is the best title of the text?
A. A Journey into TCM B. The changes in TCM
C. A Programme About Dreams D. The Meaning of Volunteer Work
A 29. B 30. C 31. A
根据文章第一段“By the end of the season, however, she surprised all with her great progress.(然而,在这一季结束时,她以巨大的进步让所有人惊讶。)”
根据文章第二段“When her grandmother died of illness, she realized good doctors are needed in this place. That was when she decided to become one to serve the people there.(当她的祖母因病去世时,她意识到这个地方需要好医生。就在那时,她决定成为一名医生来为那里的人们服务。)”可知,是家乡对医疗的需求促使她决定成为一名医生。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“To catch up, she put in more time and developed a study method of her own. Along with her schoolwork, Ayi got practical experience by taking part in more than 13 volunteer activities.(为了赶上进度,她投入了更多的时间,并摸索出了一套自己的学习方法。除了学业,阿依还参加了13项以上的志愿活动以获取实践经验。)”可推断出,阿依是一个非常勤奋刻苦(Hard-working)的女孩。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。文章主要讲述了新疆女孩阿依立志学医,克服困难学习中医(TCM),并梦想学成后回到家乡用中医为当地人服务的故事。全文围绕她学习中医的历程展开,因此“A Journey into TCM”(中医之旅)最适合作为文章标题。

Digital technology, ranging from smartphones and laptops to learning apps and AI tools, can effectively assist students’ studies and daily lives. However, uncontrolled use produces numerous negative impacts. It distracts students’ attention, shortens sleep time, reduces physical activity and weakens independent learning skills. Importantly, these problems stem from improper usage rather than the technology itself.
Unregulated technology use greatly lowers students’ learning efficiency and quality. Classroom distraction stands out as the most common issue. According to OECD’s PISA research, 30 percent of students get distracted by digital devices during most math lessons, which leads to poorer academic performance. To make matters worse, many students depend heavily on online search results and AI answers. They abandon key steps for deep learning, including careful reading, independent thinking, problem analysis and mistake correction. As a result, although their homework appears finished, they fail to build solid, in-depth knowledge.
According to a 2025 CDC (疾控中心) report, excessive screen time does great harm to teenagers’ physical and mental health. Late-night gaming and social media use can seriously affect teenagers’ sleep. Meanwhile, prolonged screen use takes up time for outdoor sports, walking and daily exercise, leaving students in poor physical condition. In addition, social media exposes teenagers to peer comparison and the fear of missing out, causing invisible mental pressure. A 2025 CDC analysis also proves that too much non-school screen time is closely associated with teenagers’ poor sleep, lack of exercise and negative mental states.
Thankfully, students can avoid these risks by developing scientific daily routines. Before studying, they need to keep phones away from desks, turn off distracting notifications and use only essential digital tools. Before bedtime, they should quit all online entertainment by a fixed time and charge their phones outside the bedroom. It is also advisable to finish exercise and housework before enjoying screen time. Instead of rejecting technology completely, proper management enables technology to better support students’ learning and healthy growth.
32. What does the word “unregulated” underlined in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Unprotected. B. Unfinished. C. Uncontrolled. D. Unchanged.
33. What can we infer from the 2025 CDC analysis?
A. Social media use reduces teenagers’ mental stress.
B. Outdoor exercise removes screen-caused harms.
C. Staying up late mainly leads to poor health.
D. Off-school screen time brings about health problems.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards digital technology?
A. Objective. B. Supporting. C. Critical. D. Doubtful.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Long screen time harms teens’ bodies and minds.
B. Proper digital use brings teens great benefits.
C. Digital tools are widely used in teens’ study.
D. Digital technology brings harm yet solutions exist.
C 33. D 34. A 35. D
根据第一段“Digital technology, ranging from smartphones and laptops to learning apps and AI tools, can effectively assist students’ studies and daily lives.
根据第三段“A 2025 CDC analysis also proves that too much non-school screen time is closely associated with teenagers’ poor sleep, lack of exercise and negative mental states.(2025年CDC的一项分析还证实,过多的非学校屏幕时间与青少年睡眠质量差、缺乏锻炼以及负面心理状态密切相关。)”
根据第一段“Digital technology, ranging from smartphones and laptops to learning apps and AI tools, can effectively assist students’ studies and daily lives. However, uncontrolled use produces numerous negative impacts. It distracts students’ attention, shortens sleep time, reduces physical activity and weakens independent learning skills.(数字技术涵盖智能手机、笔记本电脑、学习应用程序以及人工智能工具,能够高效辅助学生的学习与日常生活。然而,毫无节制地使用数字设备会带来诸多负面影响:分散学生注意力、压缩睡眠时间、减少体育锻炼,还会削弱自主学习能力。)”可知,作者客观描述数字技术的好处和坏处,因此态度是客观的。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“However, uncontrolled use produces numerous negative impacts. It distracts students’ attention, shortens sleep time, reduces physical activity and weakens independent learning skills.(然而,毫无节制地使用数字设备会带来诸多负面影响:分散学生注意力、压缩睡眠时间、减少体育锻炼,还会削弱自主学习能力。)”和最后一段“Thankfully, students can avoid these risks by developing scientific daily routines. Before studying, they need to keep phones away from desks, turn off distracting notifications and use only essential digital tools. Before bedtime, they should quit all online entertainment by a fixed time and charge their phones outside the bedroom. It is also advisable to finish exercise and housework before enjoying screen time. Instead of rejecting technology completely, proper management enables technology to better support students’ learning and healthy growth.(所幸,学生们可以通过养成科学的日常作息来规避这些隐患。
That early childhood development interventions have become a multibillion-dollar industry across the Global South is scarcely news. ____36____ Yet beneath this seemingly benevolent enterprise (慈善事业) lies a set of assumptions whose historical background betrays a troubling continuity with colonial thinking (殖民思想).
In 1955, a Belgian professor pronounced that African children, blamed to prolonged inactivity, suffered irreversible skull shrinkage Such assertions confirmed what colonizers wished to hear — that the colonized were cognitively deficient and required rescue. ____37____ The overt racism has faded, but the underlying structure remains: the problems of the poor are still traced to their own deficiencies.
The reasoning appears straightforward: improved parenting strengthens brains, which generates academic success and national growth. The World Bank estimates each dollar invested yields returns up to thirteen dollars. ____38____ The first is that parents in the Global South are fundamentally raising their children wrong. The second is that poverty and instability are somehow attributable to individual deficits rather than to economic deprivation and historical unfair treatment.
____39____ If poor childcare causes poverty, then overcoming poverty becomes parents’ responsibility. The privileged of both North and South can derive comfort from this reasoning, for it excuses them of any duty to address structural inequality. Moreover, the causal link between economic status and brain capacity conveniently implies that the wealthy owe their prosperity to their optimally developed brains.
The questions driving this industry make sense only if we accept that the poor are themselves to blame. ____40____ Recognizing the ideological weight these interventions carry does not require dismissing their benefits; it demands instead that we suspend our reflexive admiration and question the political function they serve in an unequal world.
A. This logic behind it rests on two questionable premises.
B. Two basic assumptions support this seemingly straightforward logic.
C. These interventions appear as neutral global kindness.
D. The privileged find their own status as morally justified.
E. The colonial parallel is not merely a historical one.
F. This reasoning shifts the responsibility to individuals not systems.
G. This whole industry works on questionable assumptions.
C 37. E 38. A 39. F 40. G
上文“That early childhood development interventions have become a multibillion-dollar industry across the Global South is scarcely news.(幼儿发展干预项目在全球南方已成为价值数十亿美元的产业,这算不上什么新闻)”点明该行业规模庞大、广为人知。C选项“These interventions appear as neutral global kindness.(这些干预项目看起来像是中立的全球善意之举)”承接上文,描述该行业表面呈现的慈善中立形象,句中“These interventions”指代上文提到的“early childhood development interventions”;且下文“Yet beneath this seemingly benevolent enterprise (慈善事业) lies a set of assumptions...(然而在这份看似慈善的事业背后,藏着一系列设想……)”
上文“In 1955, a Belgian professor pronounced that African children, blamed to prolonged inactivity, suffered irreversible skull shrinkage (颅骨萎缩). Such assertions confirmed what colonizers wished to hear — that the colonized were cognitively deficient and required rescue.(1955年,一位比利时教授宣称,非洲儿童因长期缺乏活动会出现不可逆的颅骨萎缩。这类论断印证了殖民者想听到的说法——被殖民者存在认知缺陷,需要被拯救)”讲述殖民时期的种族主义谬论。E选项“The colonial parallel is not merely a historical one.(这种与殖民思想的呼应并不只是存在于历史中)”承上启下,既总结上文殖民时期的相关思想,又引出下文“The overt racism has faded, but the underlying structure remains...(公开的种族主义已经消退,但底层逻辑依然存在……)”,说明殖民思维的结构延续至今,上下文语意连贯。
上文“The reasoning appears straightforward: improved parenting strengthens brains, which generates academic success and national growth. The World Bank estimates each dollar invested yields returns up to thirteen dollars.(这套逻辑看起来直截了当:改善育儿方式能促进大脑发育,进而带来学业成功与国家经济增长。世界银行估算,每投入1美元就能产生高达13美元的回报)”介绍该行业宣扬的看似合理的推理逻辑。A选项“This logic behind it rests on two questionable premises.(这套背后的逻辑建立在两个存疑的前提之上)”承接上文,句中“This logic”指代上文提到的育儿干预带动发展的推理;同时引出下文“The first is that... The second is that...(第一……第二……)”,对两个前提逐一展开说明,上下文指代与逻辑关系完全对应。
【39题详解】
上一段中点明两个存疑前提:一是全球南方家长育儿方式根本错误,二是贫困动荡源于个体缺陷而非经济剥夺与历史不公。F选项“This reasoning shifts the responsibility to individuals not systems.(这套推理把责任推给了个人,而非制度体系)”承接上文对两个前提的总结,点明其核心问题;下文“If poor childcare causes poverty, then overcoming poverty becomes parents’ responsibility.(如果是育儿不当导致贫困,那么摆脱贫困就成了父母的责任)”进一步解释该逻辑如何将责任归于个体,上下文语意衔接自然。
根据上文“The questions driving this industry make sense only if we accept that the poor are themselves to blame.(支撑该行业的一系列问题,只有在我们认同穷人应该为自身处境负责时才说得通。)”以及下文的“Recognizing the ideological weight these interventions carry does not require dismissing their benefits; it demands instead that we suspend our reflexive admiration and question the political function they serve in an unequal world.(认清这些干预措施附带的意识形态色彩,不是要否定它的益处;而是要求我们不要一味赞美,要质疑它在不平等世界里发挥的政治作用。)” G 选项“This whole industry works on questionable assumptions.(整个行业建立在诸多值得质疑的假设之上。)”

Dear Peter,
Hope you’re doing well. I can’t wait to tell you about my experience at our school’s Science and Technology Festival last week.
I tried making posters with AI tools. After I input my ideas about environmental protection, the AI offered several creative designs. I adjusted the colours and details and finally finished an eye-catching poster. The whole process was efficient and full of surprises.
This experience has given me a fresh insight into AI. It serves as a powerful helper rather than a replacement for humans. Our creativity still matters most when we use high-tech tools.
Yours,
Li Hua

Robby was a little boy who lived with his elderly mother. His father had passed away when he was only three years old. Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships, his mother worked hard to provide for him.
When he was nine, his mother wanted him to learn how to play the piano because she longed to hear her son play for her even though she had poor hearing. She sent her son to a piano teacher who took Robby in under her guidance. However, there was one small problem because Robby was not musically inclined and therefore was very slow in learning. The teacher did not have much faith in the boy because of his weakness. The mother was very enthusiastic and every week she would send Robby to the teacher in spite of being ill for a long time.
One day Robby stopped attending the piano lessons. The teacher thought that he had given up and in fact she was quite pleased since she did not give much hope to Robby. Not long after, the piano teacher was given the task to organize a piano concert in town. She was more than delighted to send out circulars to invite the students who were better at playing the piano and the public to attend the event.
Suddenly, she received a call from Robby who offered to take part in the concert. There was no doubt that she refused him immediately without hesitation. She told him that he was not good enough and that he was no longer a student in her piano class since he had stopped coming for lessons. Robby begged her to give him a chance and promised that he would not let her down. Finally, she gave in and she put him to play last, hoping that he would change his mind at the last minute. When the big day came, the hall was crowded with people and the children gave their best performance.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Finally, it was Robby’s turn to play and when his name was announced, he walked in. He was not in proper costume and his hair was not properly groomed. The teacher was really nervous since Robby’s performance could spoil the whole evening’s brilliant performance. As Robby started playing, the crowd became silent and was amazed at the skill of this little boy. In fact, he gave the best performance of the evening. At the end of his presentation, the crowd and the piano teacher gave him a huge applause.
The crowd asked Robby how he managed to play so brilliantly. With a microphone in front of him, he said in a deep voice, “I was not able to attend the weekly piano lessons as there was no one to send me because my mother was sick with cancer. She just passed away this morning and I wanted her to hear me play. You see, this is the first time she has been able to hear me play because when she was alive she was deaf and now I know she is listening to me. I have to play my best for her!”

We are talking with the Young way who just returned home to china after living in san Frances go for one year. What would you say is the biggest difference between your life in amErica and your life in china? I guess the most obvious one would be the food culture. In beijing, people eat out a lot, and people tend to be much more loud and outgoing in restaurants. For example, in china, IT is common to see people drinking and talking loudly in the middle of a restaurant. In america, however, people like to enjoy a quiet meal. If you are too loud, the waiter might come over to your table and remind you to keep IT down. And they would certainly not, sir, if you drink. if you appeared drunk. What about the variety of food? Is where amErica might have the advantage. Although chinese food is unbelievably varied, I would have to say that the quality of food from all over the world is Better in the states. While there are many africans, europeans and north americans in china, there are even fewer people from the middle east, south amErica and the caribbean. As a result, IT is harder defined, really good food from those areas. But amErica has always been a country of immigrants. So this is one area in which I just might be number one in the world. Interestingly, why don't we take some questions from the audience? We are talking with the Young way who just returned home to china after living in san Frances go for one year. I'd like to share with you my impression of paris. Actually, there's something interesting to see in every corner of paris the weather being great too. Some aspects of life here are different from those in the U. S. The most obvious thing is that there are much more activities in the streets. People gather together in open markets, cafe parks and squares. Then of course, there's the food. It's beautiful ly, shown in windows. And that markets, everything is fresh. I've gained five pounds since I arrived. There are a few things that bother me, though. I'm still having a hard time with the language. People speak very fast and it's hard to get them to repeat things. People, I think, are less warm here and it's hard to make friends. I guess that can be true for our strangers in any big city in a new country. Hello everyone, i'm very happy to be invited to this program today. I'd like to share with you my impression of paris.
