I started high school last month. At first, everything felt new and exciting. But soon I found that high school life is quite different from junior high — more subjects, more activities, and much more to do. It brings many changes, but also many new challenges. The biggest challenge is the increase in homework and the difficulty of subjects. Physics is particularly hard for me. To deal with this, I’ve started a study group with three classmates. We meet twice a week to discuss problems. This way, we not only finish our homework but also improve our understanding. It feels great to learn from each other.
Another exciting part is the clubs. I was hesitant between the Robot Club and the Basketball Team. I love both technology and sports. Finally, I chose the Robot Club because I thought it would be more relevant to my future goal of becoming an engineer. I don’t want to give up basketball completely, so I plan to play it with friends on weekends.
High school is definitely busier than junior high, but I’m learning to plan my time carefully. I use a planner to schedule my study sessions, club activities, and yes, even relaxation. Finding this balance is the key to a happy and successful high school life.
24. Why did the author start a study group?
A. Because he doesn’t want to give up basketball completely.
B. To make homework simple in his class.
C. To deal with more difficult coursework
D. Because his 3 classmates also want to study physics.
25. What was the author’s main consideration in choosing the Robot Club over the Basketball Team?
A. The Basketball Team was too tiring. B. The Robot Club had more members.
C. It is relevant to his career ambition. D. He wants to make his future colorful.
26. What’s the meaning of the word underlined in the last paragraph?
A. Certainly. B. Hardly. C. Possibly. D. Differently.
27. What can we infer about the author from the passage?
A. He finds high school life easy and relaxing.
B. He can deal with the busy high school life.
C. He has given up his dream of becoming an engineer.
D. He thinks clubs matter more than study.
C 25. C 26. A 27. B

根据最后一段中“High school is definitely busier than junior high, but I’m learning to plan my time carefully.(高中definitely比初中更忙碌,但我正在学着仔细规划我的时间。)”
根据最后一段中“I use a planner to schedule my study sessions, club activities, and yes, even relaxation. Finding this balance is the key to a happy and successful high school life.(我用计划表安排学习、社团活动,甚至休息时间。找到这种平衡是拥有快乐且成功的高中生活的关键。)”可推断,作者能够应对忙碌的高中生活。
C
Hibernation (冬眠) is a way for many creatures to survive cold, dark winters without migrating to somewhere warmer. The main features of hibernation include slowed metabolism (新陈代谢), heart rate, and need for food and water. Hibernation is a commonality between animals like bears and groundhogs. It’s been known that humans aren’t a species that hibernate — at least, not until now. Scientists have unlocked a form of hibernation for humans, although it’s not a winter-long sleep, but more of a sleepy state where your bodily functions are slowed.
A study has been going on for years to learn if the human body can go through the state of hibernation. The study is being conducted by Clifton Callaway and funded by NASA in search of a way to further space exploration. Unlocking human hibernation would be the key to trips like the nine-month long journey to Mars, or even further beyond our solar system.
Hibernation in animals is triggered by the lack of food, temperature drops, and shorter days. In humans, winter doesn’t trigger any physiological changes in our bodies. According to National Geographic, the experiment included a man who successfully went through a form of hibernation with a certain drug, which is used for sedation (镇静状态) in the medical field. His internal temperature dropped, along with his heart rate and blood pressure. His need for food, oxygen, and metabolism reduced by 20%. This man was not sleeping though, he could still stand up to go to the bathroom, or when he was hungry, ring a bell to ask for food. The experiment showed that he was in a groggy state, although he would be able to react in emergency situations.
This is a major advancement for the science field, as it unlocks so many new opportunities. However, scientists still have lots of studies to conduct to learn exactly what this means and how to get other people into this state.
28. What can we learn about hibernation in paragraph 1?
A. It means complete inactivity.
B. It is unique to large animals.
C. It is a natural human ability.
D. It slows bodily functions.
29. What is the primary goal of the study carried out by Clifton Callaway?
A. To understand hibernation across species.
B. To enable travel to Mars or beyond.
C. To improve critical care medicine.
D. To test human endurance limits.
30. How did the man in the study differ from a hibernating animal?
A. His metabolism increased significantly.
B. He could do basic tasks and respond.
C. He was still and deeply unconscious.
D. His temperature stayed unchanged.
31. What is the author’s attitude regarding the future of human hibernation research?
A. Doubtful and critical. B. Indifferent and neutral.
C. Cautious and concerned. D. Optimistic but realistic.
D 29. B 30. B 31. D

根据第二段中的“The study is being conducted by Clifton Callaway and funded by NASA in search of a way to further space exploration. Unlocking human hibernation would be the key to trips like the nine-month long journey to Mars, or even further beyond our solar-system.(这项研究由克利夫顿・卡拉韦主持,美国国家航空航天局资助,旨在寻找进一步推进太空探索的方法。实现人类冬眠将是火星九个月之旅乃至太阳系外更远行程的关键)”可知,该研究的首要目的是实现火星或更远距离的太空旅行。故选B项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“This man was not sleeping though, he could still stand up to go to the bathroom, or when he was hungry, ring a bell to ask for food. The experiment showed that he was in a groggy state, although he would be able to react in emergency situations.(不过这个人并没有睡着,他仍然可以站起来去洗手间,或者饿的时候按铃要吃的。实验表明,他处于昏昏沉沉的状态,但在紧急情况下能够做出反应)”可知,实验中的人与冬眠动物的区别在于他能完成基本活动并做出反应。故选B项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“This is a major advancement for the science field, as it unlocks so many new opportunities. However, scientists still have lots of studies to conduct to learn exactly what this means and how to get other people into this state.(这是科学界的一项重大进步,因为它开启了诸多新的可能性。然而,科学家们仍需开展大量研究,以确切弄清楚这一现象的意义以及如何让其他人进入这种状态)”可知,作者既肯定研究的重大意义,又客观指出仍有诸多问题待解决,态度是乐观且现实的。故选D项。
D
In a classic study, one-year-old babies were placed on clear plastic near the edge of a “visual cliff” that made it appear that the ground drops away and they could fall. Their mothers were placed on the far side of the cliff and the babies looked at their facial expressions to determine if there was danger. If the mothers expressed positive emotions, most babies would cross over the cliff. If the mothers looked anxious or negative, the babies would refuse to crawl forward.
This social referencing of looking to others to determine how to act continues throughout life. We determine how to act and who to trust based on the expression of emotion. But now we have created a situation where the signals of emotional expression are no longer accurate — they can be created or altered. Chatbots (聊天机器人) are able to convincingly express emotions in face and body posture. There are major ways that this could go very wrong.
Amplification of our own personal echo chamber is one of the major concerns. Social media algorithms (算法) have already created echo chambers for people, where we can select who we interact with and what types of information we encounter. Over time, this results in a narrowed perspective and poor decision making that is based on limited information. People will favor chatbots that express positive emotion toward them, like appreciation and happiness. By contrast, any expression of negative emotion from others, or even neutral expressions, will feel discouraging and destructive.
Additionally, chatbots that are able to convey emotional expressions can also have a strong influence on people’s behavior. Right now, lying and masking feelings takes effort and control. Deceivers (骗子) show “leakage” of their true emotions in what are called microexpressions that briefly reveal the underlying emotion, or in body postures and voices. But now people can use AI tools on videos of themselves to create fake emotion expression. Once the expressions become realistic enough, humans will have no chance of being able to get feedback from others about their behavior or to accurately identify emotion or deception from others.
32. What does the study about babies in the 1st paragraph suggest?
A. Facial expressions are hard to understand.
B. Interaction influences children’s behavior.
C. Mothers play a vital role in children’s growth.
D. Others’ emotion expression shapes our behavior.
33. What does the underlined word “amplification” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Narrowing. B. Increasing. C. Limiting. D. Repeating.
34. According to the last paragraph, which of the following is likely to happen?
A. Building trust will become difficult.
B. Masking feelings will become popular.
C. Privacy will become a thing of the past.
D. Body language will become unnecessary.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The role chatbots will play in social interaction.
B. Potential risks chatbots might pose to humanity.
C. The social signals given by emotional expressions.
D. Social anxiety that might be caused by technology.
D 33. B 34. A 35. B
根据第一段中的 “Their mothers were placed on the far side of the cliff and the babies looked at their facial expressions to determine if there was danger. If the mothers expressed positive emotions, most babies would cross over the cliff. If the mothers looked anxious or negative, the babies would refuse to crawl forward.(婴儿们的母亲被安置在“视觉悬崖 的另一端,婴儿会观察母亲的面部表情来判断是否存在危险。如果母亲流露出积极的情绪,大多数婴儿都会爬过这个“悬崖”;如果母亲看起来焦虑或消极,婴儿就会拒绝向前爬行)”可知,婴儿的行为会根据母亲的情绪表达发生变化,这表明他人的情绪表达会影响我们的行为。故选D项。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Social media algorithms (算法) have already created echo chambers for people, where we can select who we interact with and what types of information we encounter. Over time, this results in a narrowed perspective and poor decision making that is based on limited information. People will favor chatbots that express positive emotion toward them, like appreciation and happiness.(社交媒体算法已经为人们打造了“回音室”,在这个环境里,我们可以选择与谁互动、接触什么样的信息。长此以往,这会导致人们的视野变得狭隘,并且会基于有限的信息做出不明智的决策。人们会更青睐那些向自己表达积极情绪的聊天机器人,例如欣赏和快乐)”可知,划线此所在句子指的是“个人“回音室”效应的加剧是一个主要问题”,因此 amplification 的意思是“增加、加剧”,与increasing同义。故选B项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Once the expressions become realistic enough, humans will have no chance of being able to get feedback from others about their behavior or to accurately identify emotion or deception from others.(一旦这些伪造的表情足够逼真,人类将无法从他人那里获得关于自身行为的真实反馈,也无法准确识别他人的情绪或识破谎言)”可知,人们将难以辨别他人情绪的真假,建立信任会变得困难。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是第二段中“But now we have created a situation where the signals of emotional expression are no longer accurate — they can be created or altered. Chatbots ( 聊天机器人) are able to convincingly express emotions in face and body posture. There are major ways that this could go very wrong.(但现在我们创造了一种情况,情绪表达的信号不再准确——它们可以被创造或改变。聊天机器人能够通过面部和身体姿势令人信服地表达情感。这可能会在很多方面出错)”可知,文章指出聊天机器人可伪造情绪表达的现象,并阐述其带来的“回音室”效应加剧、难以识别欺骗等潜在风险。故选B项。
