Pickleball is now one of the fastest-growing sports, and it’s tons of fun. It is played on a badminton-sized court with a net at the center. Each end of the court has a kitchen (the non-volley zone; volley is a hit of the ball before it touches the ground). Follow these simple rules and I bet you’ll be out playing doubles pickleball in no time.
#1: Each rally (往返拍击) begins with a serve
The game starts with a serve. In doubles, the player on the right side of their court always starts the serve. You serve crosscourt to your opponent.
The serving player can either hit the ball after it bounces or out of the air and the serve must avoid landing in the kitchen or on its line. When hitting a volley serve, your paddle (球拍) must move in an upward path.
#2: The ball must bounce once on each side before either team can volley
Before any player can hit a shot out of the air, the ball must bounce once on each side. So, if your partner is serving and you start up at the kitchen, you’re in a dangerous position, because the returning team can hit a shot right at you. If you react with a volley, it’s considered a fault and you’ll lose the point because you don’t let the ball bounce first on your side. (*A point is a unit of scoring that can only be won by the serving team.)
#3: Each point continues until a fault
After the serve, play continues until a rally is won either by someone hitting a winning shot or a fault is committed. A fault ends the rally. In pickleball, there are some basic fault types:
The ball lands in the kitchen. The ball lands out of bounds (behind the baseline or outside the sideline). The ball hits the net and falls on your side. The ball bounces twice on one side before the player can return it.
(To Be Continued)
21.When your partner is serving, you are not advised to start at the kitchen because ______.
A.you will definitely lose this set
B.your partner is likely to be hit
C.the ball won’t bounce on the other side
D.your opponent is likely to gain a point
22.According to #3, which pictures show faults?
A.①② B.②③ C.③④ D.①④
23.Where may you find this article?
A.On an official document of sports classification.
B.From a profile of the sports’ inventor.
C.At the “How-To” section of a sports website.
D.In a journal on sports science.

Keira McManus, a 16-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent, has been named one of the fittest teenagers in the world after winning her third CrossFit world championship title in a row.
The teen athlete claimed first place in the 16-17 girls group at the 2026 CrossFit Games held in California on July 26, beating 20 competitors from all over the globe. This achievement makes her the first girl ever to win three consecutive (连续的) teenage group titles at the famous games.
Keira took up CrossFit at age 11. She had taken part in different kinds of sports since she was seven, including football. During Covid-19 lockdowns, she could no longer join her usual team sports, so she turned her focus fully to CrossFit training. Her family runs a local gym, so fitness has always been a big part of her daily life.
This year brought a real challenge. While preparing for the world-level competition, she also had to study for her important GCSE national school exams. To deal with the pressure, she cut down some of her training hours. “I just took my work with me to revise on the bike,” Keira explained. She would go over her school notes while doing cycling workouts. Her father Joel McManus, who also acts as her coach, said the whole family was amazed by what she had achieved. “When she first won back in 2024, even we were shocked. To win again in 2025, and then move up an age group and win for the third time is really extraordinary,” he said. “We will keep supporting her as she aims for the adult women’s competition in future.”
Keira says she fell deeply in love with CrossFit the moment she tried it. Though training can feel tiring, her passion keeps her moving forward. She still remains an ordinary teenage girl.
“I feel really proud looking back at all the hard work I have put in this year. It has been such a busy year full of competitions and schoolwork. To finish the season with a world champion title is just incredible,” Keira shared in the interview.
24.What can we learn about Keira at the 2026 CrossFit Games?
A.She beat 20 adult athletes in the competition.
B.She was invited to California for the competition.
C.She set a record by entering three age-group games.
D.She won recognition as a top teen athlete worldwide.
25.What was Keira’s main difficulty this year?
A.Cutting down some of her training hours.
B.Revising notes while doing cycling workouts.
C.Preparing for the adult women’s competition in advance.
D.Balancing global competition and national school exams.
26.What can we infer from Keira’s words in the last paragraph?
A.She regards the title as her lifelong goal. B.She values her year-round efforts highly.
C.She plans to abandon study for future contests. D.She believes the title reduces training tiredness.
27.Which words can best describe Keira McManus?
A.Ambitious but stubborn. B.Determined and independent.
C.Passionate and hard-working. D.Competitive and aggressive.

For millennia starry nights have guided navigators, confused astronomers and inspired painters. But they are becoming a rarer sight. At least 80% of the world lives under light-polluted skies — a figure that rises to 99% in America and Europe. A paper published in Science found that between 2011 and 2022 the night sky grew almost 10% brighter each year. With so many places flooded with artificial light, people are increasingly seeking out the darkness.
Many became starry-eyed during the pandemic. Confined to their homes, people took to gazing at the cosmos. (It helped that lockdown contributed to a drop in light pollution in lots of places.) Some turned to social media — and online communities such as “SpaceTok” — for information. Once restrictions lifted, these hobbyists planned their trips accordingly.
The forecasts for companies offering “astrotourism” are anything but cloudy. In 2024 a survey by Booking.com, a travel website, found that 62% of people were interested in destinations with limited light pollution. To meet the demand for “cosmic escapism”, some hotels now provide access to telescopes and in-house astronomers. Others are offering star-bathing and moonlit meditation.
Because the best stargazing requires seclusion (清净), astrotourism is a boon to remote areas that do not usually appeal to tourists. Dark Sky International, a non-profit, certifies (认证) parks and reserves with the best night-time conditions. It has seen a substantial increase in the number of applications in the past three years, growing from 16 in 2023 to 28 applications in the first half of 2026 alone.
Al Ula, in the Saudi Arabian desert, is going big on astrotourism by building a state-of-the-art observatory and luxury stargazing lodges. John Barentine, an astronomer in Arizona, says there is an opportunity for rural places where industries such as mining have declined.
Such trips appeal because they offer a stillness that is hard to find in much of the modern world, where “we have turned night into day in the places we live and work,” as Ruskin Hartley, Dark Sky’s director, puts it. Stargazing also encourages feelings of wonderment, which are in short supply. Studies have found that those who look up report a greater sense of well-being; feelings of awe are linked to lower stress levels and a sense of quietness. Some credit the recreation with giving them a greater sense of perspective. As Oscar Wilde once wrote: “We are all in the gutter (阴沟), but some of us are looking at the stars.”
28.What led to the rise of interest in stargazing during the pandemic?
A.A dramatic drop in light pollution.
B.Being confined to their houses.
C.The information about stars shared on social media.
D.The promotion of stargazing trips by travel agencies.
29.What does the underlined word “boon” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.A good opportunity that brings great benefits.
B.A campaign that promotes moonlit meditation.
C.A disadvantage that restricts development.
D.An industry that is subject to environment.
30.If you plan to take a stargazing trip, which spot will you most probably choose?
A.A natural reserve with a great popularity for its scenery.
B.A luxurious city hotel with state-of-the-art telescopes.
C.A remote desert without the impact of artificial light.
D.A rural place with its industrial production progressing fast.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Looking at the star is rare because people spend their days facing the harsh realities of the gutter.
B.Stargazing allows people to find beauty and meaning beyond the noise of the everyday world.
C.People respond to the adversity of life by seeking feelings of wonderment in various pastimes.
D.The pursuit of inner peace and new perspectives drives people to look up and escape from the gutter.

Most composers devote themselves to creating auditory music for audiences with normal hearing. However, 31-year-old Zhou Mo dedicates her entire artistic career to designing tactile (触觉的) music, an inclusive art form specially created for the deaf and hearing-impaired community. Instead of relying merely on traditional sound waves and musical tones, she creatively converts delicate musical melodies and rhythms into soft physical vibrations (振动), enabling people with hearing disabilities to perceive, understand and enjoy music through gentle skin touch rather than listening with ears.
Zhou received professional musical composition training during her university years. Her artistic path was completely transformed after she volunteered at a charity concert for deaf teenagers. On that occasion, she witnessed that deaf audiences could barely follow traditional music performances and were largely excluded from the charm of musical art. Deeply touched by this reality, she was determined to break this barrier and explore brand-new possibilities for inclusive art.
After continuous research and numerous trials, she learned that human skin can sense low-frequency vibrations. Based on this biological principle, she invented accurate vibration devices connected to musical instruments. These devices produce stable vibration patterns that precisely correspond to subtle changes of musical beats and tones.
To create a quiet and focused artistic experience, Zhou holds indoor tactile music performances. Audiences place their arms on professional vibration boards and feel the rising and falling of melodies through skin sensations. To make the art accessible, she simplifies complicated musical structures and avoids overly fast and chaotic rhythms, making vibration signals easy to recognize and understand.
Zhou is committed to breaking the long-standing public stereotype that music belongs only to hearing people. She never intends to replace traditional concerts. Instead, she builds a fair and equal artistic platform for the deaf group. For her, music is essentially a universal language beyond sound, and every individual, regardless of physical conditions, deserves equal rights to appreciate pure artistic beauty.
32.What is the feature of Zhou Mo’s tactile music?
A.It creates sounds with special instruments.
B.It produces fast and chaotic musical rhythms.
C.It replaces traditional auditory concerts completely.
D.It enables the deaf to feel music through vibrations.
33.What inspired Zhou Mo to invent vibration devices?
A.Her major study of human skin structure. B.The poor experience of deaf concert audiences.
C.Public demand for simple modern music. D.New rules for charitable music performances.
34.What does the text imply about Zhou Mo?
A.She holds a negative view on traditional music.
B.She profits greatly from inclusive performances.
C.She majors in biological science relevant to skin.
D.She adjusts her works for better audience experience.
35.What is the main idea of the text?
A.The development of modern musical devices.
B.How ordinary people appreciate classical music.
C.Tactile music — a new way to feel art beyond sound.
D.Equal rights in modern public art education.

Over centuries, from ancient murals (壁画) to contemporary installations (装置), public art has shaped collective identity. Unlike paintings limited to galleries or statues in museums, outdoor art is freely accessible. 36 Cities worldwide increasingly use this power not merely to beautify but to lift community spirits, honor historical memory, and draw attention to ecological threats.
Consider the Las Palmitas neighborhood in Pachuca, Mexico, where residents partnered with a street art group to paint their hillside homes in bright, colorful designs. What began as a modest proposal grew into a massive mural visible from afar, covering dozens of houses. 37 Locals reported that the bright colors lifted their spirits each morning. One resident remarked, “Every morning you wake up, see the colors that surround you, and it makes you feel good.”
Public art can also send a powerful message. 38 For example, British artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper created a striking installation by placing 888,246 handmade red flowers around the Tower of London. This temporary display represented the British people who died during World War I, inviting people to reflect on history in a meaningful way.
39 Icelandic artist Bjargey Olafsdottir created Red Polar Bear measuring 80 meters by 50 meters on the Langjokull glacier (冰川) in Iceland. It showed the red outline of a polar bear on the snow. Olafsdottir wanted to make people think about the polar bear and how its environment is in danger because of global warming. Many people stopped to view this huge outdoor artwork every day. 40
A.Many works highlight political and social issues.
B.The collaborative process brought unexpected joy.
C.Art in the open can also make people aware of the situation.
D.It invites everyone to share a visual experience without cost.
E.Indeed, it urged people to consider their own carbon footprint.

Last term, our school held an annual English speech competition, a highly-expected event for all students. Top winners would receive honor awards and an opportunity to speak before the whole school at the weekly assembly. Inspired by my English teacher, I gathered all my courage and signed up for the contest. In fact, public speaking had long been my biggest weakness. As a quiet boy, I hardly voiced opinions in class. Even answering simple questions in public would make my palms sweat. The thought of standing on a huge stage and facing hundreds of eyes filled me with fear. Yet I longed to break away from my shyness and take on this tough challenge to rebuild my self-confidence.
For nearly two weeks, I buried myself in preparation after school every day. I searched for inspiring stories, revised my draft again and again, and recited the speech late into night in my bedroom. I was full of hope that my hard work would pay off. However, everything fell apart during the class rehearsal (排练). When I stood before my classmates, my mind suddenly went blank. My hands shook uncontrollably, and I stumbled over sentences. Several minutes passed before I could finish. Some classmates sighed, and a few even suggested I drop out, saying the competition was too competitive for a shy person like me. Heavy frustration flooded my mind. Doubt crowded in. I wondered whether I was foolish to push myself into such trouble. I even planned to give up taking part in the contest.
Luckily, my English teacher spotted my terrible state. She pulled me aside after class and comforted me patiently. She said setbacks were unavoidable on the road of growth, and what mattered most was our attitude towards trouble instead of perfect performance. She told me not to be defeated by temporary failure. Her sincere words touched my heart. After struggling with my inner conflict, I made up my mind not to give up.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

A.People can adapt easily.
B.Art can make a difference.
C.Homeowners are more creative.
【答案】17.B 18.A 19.C 20.B
【原文】M: Good evening. Tonight, I’ll continue to share how we can use art to spread the word about the changing climate. In our day-to-day lives, climate change can be hard to see, but some places will feel the changes sooner than others. The city I live in is very flat and close to the waterline. And rising sea levels are already creating floods. So I decided to do something to make it impossible to ignore. I started an art project called Underwater Homeowners Association and painted numbers onto thousands of large signs. Each number showed how high someone’s house was above sea level. A one would mean that if the sea level rose one foot, the building would flood. I gave the signs to homeowners who put them in their yards. Kids painted more signs and put them near their schools and along busy roads. The project has already had a real-world effect. The people who put the signs in their yards created a real homeowners association to address climate change in their communities.
A(新考法)
【答案】21.D 22.B 23.C
【导语】本文主要介绍了匹克球这项新兴运动的三条基础双打规则,帮助读者快速上手匹克球双打。
【详解】21.细节理解题。根据#2中的“So, if your partner is serving and you start up at the kitchen, you’re in a dangerous position, because the returning team can hit a shot right at you. If you react with a volley, it’s considered a fault and you’ll lose the point because you don’t let the ball bounce first on your side.(所以,如果你的搭档正在发球,而你站在“厨房”区域,你就处于危险的位置,因为接发方可以直接把球朝你击来。如果你出于反应直接截击,这就会被判为失误,你方会丢掉这一分,因为你没有让球先在你方场地弹跳。)”可知,你站在非截击区容易犯规丢分,对手会得分。
22.细节理解题。根据#3规则下列举的失误类型“The ball lands in the kitchen. The ball lands out of bounds (behind the baseline or outside the sideline). The ball hits the net and falls on your side. The ball bounces twice on one side before the player can return it.(球落在了“厨房”区域;球出界(落在底线之后或者边线之外);球碰到网之后落在你方场地;球在某一侧场地弹跳了两次,球员才将球击回。)”
结合第一段中的“Follow these simple rules and I bet you'll be out playing doubles pickleball in no time. (遵循这些简单的规则,我敢打赌你很快就能上场打双打匹克球了。)”可知,文章是教读者如何打匹克球,这类入门教学内容最可能出现在体育网站的“入门教程”板块。

C(社会热点)

D

F.The project demonstrated how art can help people gain confidence.
G.When you hear the word art, you might imagine paintings in galleries.

【答案】参考范文:
Encouraged by her words, I threw myself into continuous practice. I turned to my deskmate for help, asking him to act as my audience and point out my mistakes. Still, nervousness would strike now and then. There were moments when I messed up lines and wanted to abandon everything. But I kept reminding myself to hold a positive attitude. I practiced in the empty lecture hall after school, simulating the real competition scene. I adjusted my speed, corrected my awkward gestures and repeated tricky paragraphs countless times. Gradually, panic faded. My confidence grew little by little. I no longer dreamed of winning prizes, but focused on defeating my inner fear and finishing this challenge.
Soon came the big day of the speech competition. Backstage, hearing warm cheers from the audience, I felt my heart beat wildly. Waiting for my turn, I almost wanted to run away. When my name was announced, I took a deep breath and stepped onto the bright stage. At the beginning, I nearly forgot one key sentence. Quickly calming myself down, I recovered and carried on. My voice turned steady, and my speech flowed smoothly. Loud applause burst out the moment I finished. Though I only got third prize, joy welled up inside me. I learned that setbacks are necessary in our growth. Real success lies in bravely fighting against our weaknesses.

right at you.If you react with a volley,it's considered a fault and you'll lose the point because you don't let the
ball bounce first on your side.(*A point is a unit of scoring that can only be won by the serving team.)

For millennia starry nights have guided navigators, confused astronomers and inspired painters. But they
are becoming a rarer sight. At least 80%of the world lives under light-polluted skies-a figure that rises to 99%
in America and Europe.A paper published in Science found that between 2011 and 2022 the night sky grew almost
10%brighter each year. With so many places flooded with artificial light, people are increasingly seeking out the
darkness.
Many became starry-eyed during the pandemic.Confined to their homes, people took to gazing at the
cosmos.(It helped that lockdown contributed to a drop in light pollution in lots of places.)Some turned to social
media-and online communities such as "SpaceTok"-for information.Once restrictions lifted, these hobbyists
planned their trips accordingly.
The forecasts for companies offering "astrotourism"are anything but cloudy. In 2024 a survey by
Booking.com,a travel website, found that 62%of people were interested in destinations with limited light
pollution. To meet the demand for"cosmic escapism",some hotels now provide access to telescopes and in-house
astronomers.Others are offering star-bathing and moonlit meditation.
Because the best stargazing requires seclusion ()astrotourism is a boon to remote areas that do not
usually appeal to tourists.Dark Sky International,a non-profit,certifies (parks and reserves with the best
night-time conditions. It has seen a substantial increase in the number of applications in the past three years,
growing from 16 in 2023 to 28 applications in the first half of 2026 alone.
Al Ula,in the Saudi Arabian desert,is going big on astrotourism by building a state-of-the-art observatory
and luxury stargazing lodges.John Barentine,an astronomer in Arizona, says there is an opportunity for rural
places where industries such as mining have declined.
Such trips appeal because they offer a stillness that is hard to find in much of the modern world, where"we
have turned night into day in the places we live and work,"as Ruskin Hartley,Dark Sky's director, puts it.
Stargazing also encourages feelings of wonderment, which are in short supply.Studies have found that those who
look up report a greater sense of well-being;feelings of awe are linked to lower stress levels and a sense of
quietness. Some credit the recreation with giving them a greater sense of perspective. As Oscar Wilde once wrote:
We are all in the gutter(阴沟),but some of us are looking at the stars.”
28.What led to the rise of interest in stargazing during the pandemic?
A.A dramatic drop in light pollution
B.Being confined to their houses.

Most composers devote themselves to creating auditory music for audiences with normal hearing. However,
31-year-old Zhou Mo dedicates her entire artistic career to designing tactile (music,an inclusive art form
specially created for the deaf and hearing-impaired community.Instead of relying merely on traditional sound
waves and musical tones, she creatively converts delicate musical melodies and rhythms into soft physical
vibrations ()enabling people with hearing disabilities to perceive, understand and enjoy music through
gentle skin touch rather than listening with ears.
Zhou received professional musical composition training during her university years. Her artistic path was
completely transformed after she volunteered at a charity concert for deaf teenagers. On that occasion, she
witnessed that deaf audiences could barely follow traditional music performances and were largely excluded from
the charm of musical art.Deeply touched by this reality, she was determined to break this barrier and explore
brand-new possibilities for inclusive art.
After continuous research and numerous trials, she learned that human skin can sense low-frequency
vibrations.Based on this biological principle, she invented accurate vibration devices connected to musical
instruments. These devices produce stable vibration patterns that precisely correspond to subtle changes of musical
beats and tones.

place their arms on professional vibration boards and feel the rising and falling of melodies through skin

chaotic rhythms, making vibration signals easy to recognize and understand.
Zhou is committed to breaking the long-standing public stereotype that music belongs only to hearing
people. She never intends to replace traditional concerts.Instead, she builds a fair and equal artistic platform for
the deaf group. For her, music is essentially a universal language beyond sound, and every individual, regardless

Last term, our school held an annual English speech competition,a highly-expected event for all students.
Top winners would receive honor awards and an opportunity to speak before the whole school at the weekly
assembly.Inspired by my English teacher,I gathered all my courage and signed up for the contest. In fact, public
speaking had long been my biggest weakness. As a quiet boy,I hardly voiced opinions in class.Even answering
simple questions in public would make my palms sweat. The thought of standing on a huge stage and facing
hundreds of eyes filled me with fear.Yet I longed to break away from my shyness and take on this tough challenge
to rebuild my self-confidence.
For nearly two weeks,I buried myself in preparation after school every day.I searched for inspiring stories,
revised my draft again and again, and recited the speech late into night in my bedroom.I was full of hope that my
hard work would pay off. However, everything fell apart during the class rehearsal ()When I stood before

the competition was too competitive for a shy person like me.Heavy frustration flooded my mind.Doubt crowded

contest.

Last week, our school held the annual sports meet on the playground, which attracted great attention from all teachers and students. The meeting lasted two days and included various events, such as the 100-meter race, the long jump and the relay race. What impressed us most was the athletes’ spirit of never giving up. Not only did the players show their strength and skills, but they also strengthened friendship and teamwork through fair competition.

Tonight, i'll continue to share how we can use art to spread the word about the changing climate in our day today lives. Climate change can be hard to see, but some places will feel the changes sooner than others. The city ee live in is very flat and close to the waterline, and rising sea levels are already creating floods. So I decided to do something to make IT impossible to ignore. I started an art project called underwater home owners association and painted numbers on two thousands of large signs. Each number showed how high someone's house was above sea level. A one would mean that if the sea level rose one foot, the building would flood. I gave the science to homeowners who put them in their yards. Kids painted more science and put them near their schools. And the long, busy roads, the project has already had a real world effect. The people who put the signs in their yards created a real homeowners association to address climate change in their communities. Good evening.

C(社会热点)
D

F.The project demonstrated how art can help people gain confidence.
G.When you hear the word art, you might imagine paintings in galleries.
