Old buildings still stand, but new art centres, fun activities, and popular places are bringing back their past glory. Here are four towns to visit this summer. Scarborough, Yorkshire Scarborough may be Britain’s first seaside spot for vacation. In the 1600s, people came for its health-giving springs. After years of downturn, it’s now improving thanks to new plans: hosting everything from poetry readings to rock music festivals, while still welcoming visitors to its top-rated beaches. Margate, Kent Every coastal town wants to attract visitors all year, and Margate does this best. When bad weather keeps people from the beach, there’s lots of indoor fun-like old-fashioned games and the Turner Contemporary art centre. But what really helps Margate grow is the strong community spirit, everyone working together. Barmouth, Wales On the way to famous North Wales spots like Snowdonia, don’t miss Barmouth! This hidden town sits where a river meets the sea, with mountains behind its beaches. Its slogan (口号) is “mountain, sand & sea” — just look at the sunset over the water with mountains in the distance. Many visitors love it so much that they decide to move here and become residents! Penzance, Cornwall Penzance has recovered slowly, not suddenly. Over the last 10 years, many new projects have helped the town. The main events are the 10-day Golowan festival, which features parades and shows, and the Montol winter celebration. Visitors can take a sleeper train (a train with beds) from London, or fly by helicopter to nearby Scilly Isles. The local food is also very popular! 21. What attracted people to Scarborough in the 1600s? A. Poetry readings. B. Music festivals. C. Seaside attractions. D. Healthful springs. 22. What is the main factor for Margate’s growth? A. Warm weather. B. Indoor activities. C. Local teamwork. D. Modern facilities. 23. Which town has liveable natural conditions? A. Margate, Kent. B. Barmouth, Wales. C. Penzance, Cornwall. D. Scarborough, Yorkshire. D 22. C 23. 根据第三段“But what really helps Margate grow is the strong community spirit, everyone working together.(但真正推动马格特发展的是浓厚的社区精神,即所有人齐心协力)”可知,马盖特发展壮大的主要因素是地方团队合作。 根据倒数第二段“On the way to famous North Wales spots like Snowdonia, don’t miss Barmouth! This hidden town sits where a river meets the sea, with mountains behind its beaches. Its slogan (口号) is “mountain, sand & sea” — just look at the sunset over the water with mountains in the distance. Many visitors love it so much that they decide to move here and become residents!(在前往著名的北威尔士景点(如斯诺多尼亚)的途中,千万不要错过Barmouth!这座隐匿的小镇位于一条河流与大海交汇之处,其海滩背后是群山。它的宣传口号是“山、沙与海”——只需看看那远处山峦与水面交相辉映的落日景色即可。许多游客如此喜爱这里,以至于决定搬到这里并成为这里的居民!)”可知,Barmouth具备适宜居住的自然条件。故选B。 B Life can feel terribly unfair. And yet for some people, when life hands them the worst possible situation, they are at their absolute best. Jessie Joy Rees is just such a person. The blonde-haired California kid, who had a big personality as fun as a day at the beach, became the voice of courage for kids with cancer. Athletic and energetic, Jessie had her whole world in front of her, until she was diagnosed (诊断) with an incurable brain tumor in 2011. Doctors estimated that she had just 1% chance of survival and less than a year to live. With no other treatment options, her family entered Jessie for a clinical trial. For weeks she underwent 30 rounds of radiotherapy Amazingly, the pain and uncertainty never lessened her shine, and Jessie always remained positive throughout it all. Three weeks into her treatment, Jessie asked an unusually mature question for such a young girl. Looking out at the other children who were also going through cancer treatment, she asked her parents, “How can we help them?” Jessie’s heart was bigger than any tumor. “She was determined to make other cancer kids happy,” her father Erik remembered. “How could we not help?” Though 12-year-old Jessie had a slight chance of beating cancer, she determined to make the most of her time. The morning after her diagnosis, Jessie was at the kitchen table packing bags of toys for other cancer patients. The packages became hospital-safe plastic jars filled with toys, crafts and activities to surprise children while they were in the hospital for treatment. JoyJars, named after Jessie’s middle name, contained a little bit of fun during ordinary days, but mostly they contained a little bit of Jessie’s positive attitude that filled the room every time one was opened. Jessie Joy Rees, a special soul who could radiate so much good in so short a time, passed away less than a year from her diagnosis. But her parents kept the joy alive. More than 400,000 JoyJars have been delivered to children undergoing cancer treatment in all 50 states and over 50 countries, with each stamped with her life philosophy “Never Ever Give Up”. No matter how long or short our lives turn out to be, there is always room for a little joy. 24. What can we learn about Jessie from Paragraph 2? A. She had a slim chance to be cured of the brain cancer. B. She refused to accept any form of medical treatment. C. She had a reputation all over the world for her courage. D. She was fond of having fun on the beach in California. 25. What inspired Jessie’s creation of JoyJars? A. Her intention to get rid of her physical pain. B. Her need to raise funds for her medical treatment. C. Her wish to bring emotional support to fellow patients. D. Her goal to promote her life philosophy around the world. 26. What did JoyJars mainly bring to the children? A. Toys and games. B. Medical relief. C. Public attention. D. Hope and courage. 27. Which saying best suits Jessie’s story? A. A life without passion is a life half-lived. B. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. C. A candle lights others and consumes itself. D. Joy and sorrow are next-door neighbors. A 25. C 26. D 27. 根据第二段中的“Athletic and energetic, Jessie had her whole world in front of her, until she was diagnosed (诊断) with an incurable brain tumor in 2011. Doctors estimated that she had just 1% chance of survival and less than a year to live.(杰西活泼好动、精力充沛,未来本一片光明,直到2011年她被确诊患上无法治愈的脑瘤。医生预估她仅有1%的存活几率,生命不足一年。)” 可知,她治愈脑瘤的机会渺茫。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的 “Looking out at the other children who were also going through cancer treatment, she asked her parents, “How can we help them?” Jessie’s heart was bigger than any tumor. “She was determined to make other cancer kids happy,” her father Erik remembered.(看着其他同样在接受癌症治疗的孩子们,她问父母:“我们怎样才能帮助他们?”父亲Erik回忆:“她下定决心要让其他患癌孩子开心起来。”)”可知,她想给同病的孩子带去情感上的支持。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“JoyJars, named after Jessie’s middle name, contained a little bit of fun during ordinary days, but mostly they contained a little bit of Jessie’s positive attitude that filled the room every time one was opened.(JoyJars以杰西的中间名命名,里面装着平日里的一点乐趣,但最主要的是承载着杰西积极乐观的态度,每打开一罐,这份态度就能感染整个房间。)” 文章开头“Life can feel terribly unfair. And yet for some people, when life hands them the worst possible situation, they are at their absolute best.(生活可能极为不公。但有些人,当生活给予他们最糟糕的处境时,却能展现最好的自己。)”以及根据最后一段“No matter how long or short our lives turn out to be, there is always room for a little joy.(无论我们的生命长短,我们总能找到属于自己的一份快乐。)” C Anyone with even a passing interest in the natural world will have noticed a dramatic phenomenon this year: a lack of insects. Perhaps most noticeable is the near-absence of butterflies. Species that are usually common are in many places down to the point of having almost disappeared. There are several probable reasons for this sudden reduction compared with typical summers. The weather has not helped, with a cool and wet spring across much of the country affecting insect numbers. But even with that factored in, this year’s sudden drop comes after many years of going down little by little. Dave Goulson, one of the UK’s leading entomologists (昆虫学家), says that insect populations compared with a century ago are 90% to 95% down. That was not caused by one wet spring: it is the result of a combination of factors that include the rise of ever more intensive farming, destruction of animals’ living environment and the impacts of climate breakdown. Aside from the disheartening silence and stillness of gardens, woods and grasslands, there are more practical implications. For example, many of our crop plants — including tomatoes, apples and strawberries — depend on wild insects to pollinate (授粉) them. Insects are also the food source of many birds that are also in decrease. The present position will hopefully last for a short time but is nonetheless a wake-up call about the degree of losses that have taken place in recent decades. One thing that we can all do to help is to get out and gather more information. This weekend the annual Big Butterfly Count gets under way, helping people survey their local area as part of a necessary national counting exercise — a fantastic example of citizen science in action. Nature is not just a nice thing to have: it is important for our national health, wealth and safety. Our butterflies and other insects are telling us something rather important. 28. What can we learn about this year’s butterflies? A. Their numbers suffer a sharp drop. B. Their species are rich and varied. C. They can be found in many places. D. Their dining habits have changed. 29. Why is Dave Goulson mentioned in paragraph 2? A. To suggest solutions to farming issues. B. To show insect numbers a century ago. C. To explain the impact of the cool wet spring. D. To offer evidence for a long-term phenomenon. 30. What does the underlined word “implications” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Features. B. Advantages. C. Effects. D. Opportunities. 31. What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph? A. Appreciate butterflies’ beauty. B. Join in citizen science activities. C. Wait for short-term recovery. D. Study insect losses professionally. A 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段中的“Anyone with even a passing interest in the natural world will have noticed a dramatic phenomenon this year: a lack of insects. Perhaps most noticeable is the near-absence of butterflies. Species that are usually common are in many places down to the point of having almost disappeared.(任何稍微对自然界感兴趣的人今年都会注意到一个惊人现象:昆虫变少了。最引人注目的当属蝴蝶几乎不见踪影。很多常见的蝴蝶种群数量大幅下降,近乎消失。)” 可知,今年蝴蝶数量急剧下降。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Dave Goulson, one of the UK’s leading entomologists (昆虫学家), says that insect populations compared with a century ago are 90% to 95% down. That was not caused by one wet spring: it is the result of a combination of factors that include the rise of ever more intensive farming, destruction of animals’living environment and the impacts of climate breakdown.(英国顶尖昆虫学家之一Dave Goulson称,昆虫数量相比一百年前下降了90%至95%。这并非仅仅一个潮湿阴冷的春季造成,而是集约化农业发展、栖息地破坏、气候恶化等多重因素共同作用的结果。)”可知,作者引用专家的话,为昆虫数量长期持续减少这一现象提供证据。 【30题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第三段中的“Aside from the disheartening silence and stillness of gardens, woods and grasslands, there are more practical implications. For example, many of our crop plants-including tomatoes, apples and strawberries-depend on wild insects to pollinate (授粉) them. Insects are also the food source of many birds that are also in decrease.(除了花园、林地、草地令人沮丧的沉寂之外,还有更多实际的implications。例如,番茄、苹果、草莓等许多农作物依靠野生昆虫授粉。昆虫也是许多同样数量在减少的鸟类的食物来源。)”可知,后文举例说明昆虫减少带来的种种后果。所以划线词的意思是“影响、后果”。与C选项同义。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“One thing that we can all do to help is to get out and gather more information. This weekend the annual Big Butterfly Count gets under way, helping people survey their local area as part of a necessary national counting exercise — a fantastic example of citizen science in action.(我们所有人可以做的一件事就是外出收集更多信息。本周末一年一度的大型蝴蝶计数活动开启,帮助人们调查当地区域,作为全国统计工作的一部分——这是公民科学落地的绝佳范例。)”可知,作者建议读者参与公民科学活动。 D At a time when endless scrolling (刷屏) and constant notifications (通知) fill daily life, a group of college students at University of California is trying something refreshingly simple: putting their phones away and reconnecting with the real world. Students on campus have started hosting “no-phone parties,” gatherings where attendees leave their devices behind and focus instead on conversation, creativity, and real human relationship. The events are organized by Project Reboot, a student-led movement focused on helping young people build healthier relationships with technology. The group is careful to point out that it is not anti-technology. Instead, its goal is to help students take back control of their attention and use technology with purposes rather than letting it control them. “Technology is neither good nor bad,” the organization explains. “While it has the power to addict and depress, it also has the potential to inform and inspire.” According to a survey of UC Berkeley undergraduates, 78% of students said their phone use prevents them from “thinking deeply or being creative.” “It sucks (糟透了) that on a regular basis I am having to fight with my phone and I feel like I am losing control over my life,” student Dawson Kelly said. That feeling is shared among those students who attend the no-phone gatherings. Without screens competing for attention, conversations become more meaningful and people feel more present with one another. Many students involved in the movement say they worry their generation is losing the ability to truly connect face-to-face. Through small but intentional habit changes, Project Reboot hopes students can strengthen qualities like carefulness and creativity while spending less time trapped in endless scrolling. And the students behind the movement hope their idea spreads far beyond the Berkeley campus. In a world filled with distractions (分心的事物), they believe putting down a phone for a few hours might be one of the most powerful ways to reconnect with yourself and the people around you. 32. What is the main goal of Project Reboot according to Paragraph 2? A. To forbid technological devices. B. To prove technology is harmful. C. To promote healthy digital use. D. To organize campus entertainment. 33. Why do students like Dawson feel bad? A. They lack access to modern digital tools. B. Their digital habits control their daily lives. C. They fail to complete academic surveys. D. Their screen time harms their physical health. 34. Which of the following is true concerning the no-phone movement? A. It contributes to real face-to-face communication. B. It promotes students’ learning performance better. C. It makes traditional campus parties more popular. D. It helps reduce the students’ face-to-face arguments. 35. What is the main idea of the text? A. Digital reduction ensures students’ achievements. B. College students should refuse technology completely. C. Smart phones improve young people’s creativity. D. Putting down phones makes people closer. C 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第二段中的“The events are organized by Project Reboot, a student-led movement focused on helping young people build healthier relationships with technology.(这些活动由“重启计划”组织,这是一场由学生主导的活动,旨在帮助年轻人与科技建立更健康的关系。)” 根据第三段中的““It sucks (糟透了) that on a regular basis I am having to fight with my phone and I feel like I am losing control over my life,” student Dawson Kelly said.(学生Dawson Kelly说:“我经常不得不和手机较劲,感觉自己正在失去对生活的掌控,这实在太糟了。”)” 根据第四段中的“Without screens competing for attention, conversations become more meaningful and people feel more present with one another.(没有屏幕争夺注意力,谈话变得更有意义,人们能更真切地陪伴彼此。)” 通读全文,尤其是尾段中的“In a world filled with distractions (分心的事物), they believe putting down a phone for a few hours might be one of the most powerful ways to reconnect with yourself and the people around you.(在这个充满干扰的世界里,他们相信放下手机几小时,是重新和自己以及身边人建立联结最有效的方式之一。)” We are taught to see “gossip (八卦)” as a bad habit. However, talking about other people is a natural and important part of our life. Long ago, gossip worked like our earliest social media. In the old days, people shared useful news this way, such as who we could trust or where to get nice food. Even now, it helps us make friends and build trust. ____36____ There is just a small difference between sharing useful news and saying something hurtful. To chat in a good way, we need to follow simple rules and learn “polite gossip”. First, only talk about facts. We can only speak of words we actually heard and actions we really saw. If you start guessing others’ hidden ideas or invent small details to make the story more fun, you are not talking politely anymore. ____37____ Second, know what we cannot talk about. ____38____ Topics like classmates’ looks, family troubles or health problems should never come up in casual talks. If someone is having a hard time, they need our care, not gossip behind their backs. Third, separate people from their mistakes. People may do silly or careless things, but that does not mean they are bad people. ____39____ We all make mistakes and have bad moments. When we talk about one thing, we should focus on the action itself instead of speaking badly of a person’s personality. Finally, keep the golden rule: ____40____ This is the final test of our conscience (良知). If you and that person change places, will you think this talk is fair? Or will you feel sad? If we keep kind and fair hearts, we can share stories without hurting anyone. A. However, not all gossip is the same. B. Therefore, we must respect other people. C. There are some personal things we should never discuss. D. It is important to listen carefully to what our friends tell us. E. We should stick to what really happened, not what we imagine. F. Judging others requires direct communication rather than secret talks. G. Don’t talk about others in ways you would hate others to talk about you. 36. A 37. E 38. C 39. B 40. I carried it because when I was young I became deaf. After consulting(协商) with a lot of educational experts, doctors, and parents of other deaf children, my parents decided to send me to a school where all of my classmates and teachers would have normal hearing, instead of sending me to a private school for the deaf. So I was the only deaf child at Blue Creek Elementary School. I experienced great anxiety throughout Elementary School because, in addition to the problems of “fitting in” with the other students, I also struggled with most of my school work. I seemed to spend every spare moment doing homework just so I could keep up. I could feel that my parents and teachers were deeply disappointed in me because of my academic struggles. The teachers didn’t know what to do with me nor did they show much interest in any of my poor performances. My hearing disability required me to ask everyone from time to time, “What did he or she say?” I worried that everyone would soon grow tired of repeating everything back to me. When the kids made fun of me, I had no way but to accept it. I was sure that I was a bad person; my self-esteem(自尊心) was quite low. I saw myself as an ugly kid wearing a box around his neck who wasn’t even smart enough to keep up with the rest of the other kids. Mrs. Jordan, my 5th grade teacher, changed all of that with a simple two-word phrase. One morning, she asked the class a question. I read her lips(嘴唇) from my front-row seat and immediately raised my hand. I couldn’t believe it—for once I knew the answer. But, when she called on me, I was afraid. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For the first time in my young life, I was a star in my class. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 But, when she called on me, I was afraid. I took a deep breath, stood up slowly and answered Mrs. Jordan’s question in a low voice. Then came the silence. I felt so nervous that I lowered my head and did not dare to see the reaction of the teacher and other students. I would never forget what happened next. Mrs. Jordan pointed directly at me. With shinning eyes and a wide smile, she cried: “That’s right, Stephen!” Surprise and then joy overwhelmed me. For the first time in my young life, I was a star in my class. I became the focus of my class, with everyone looking at me. My confidence soared like never before. I decided right then and there that I would make a place for myself in this world. B Life can feel terribly unfair. C Anyone with even a passing interest in the natural world will have noticed a dramatic phenomenon this year: a lack of insects. D At a time when endless scrolling (刷屏) and constant notifications (通知) fill daily life, a group of college students at University of California is trying something refreshingly simple: putting their phones away and reconnecting with the real world. We are taught to see “gossip (八卦)” as a bad habit. When I entered Berkeley, I hoped to earn a scholarship (奖学金). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
