Have teamwork spirit. When more people work together, it will be more fun for everyone. Have you ever quarreled with your teammates when your basketball team lost? Only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, not only yourself.
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Don’t look down on new ideas, because new ideas make life better.

Plastic straws (塑料吸管) are commonly used in daily life, but people in Hong Kong are not allowed to use plastic straws because of the new regulation (条例) on Disposable (一次性的) Plastic Products. Many disposable plastics, like forks and plates, are covered. It started on Earth Day, April 22nd.
However, the new regulation has caused some problems. On the Internet, people in Hong Kong have shared pictures of paper spoons that get soft before they finish drinking their soup. Someone says, “In the past, plastic covers for umbrellas were given out when people walked into a mall on rainy days. But now they aren’t available. Rainwater drops from umbrellas, increasing the chance of people falling down.” According to Zhou Yue, a young man who lives in Hong Kong, the new regulation will affect travelers more because hotels in Hong Kong don’t provide free plastic products anymore. It means they have to bring their own toothbrushes.
“To protect the environment and public health, we need to cut down the use of plastics step by step,” said an officer, explaining the reason for the regulation.
Carrying out this regulation certainly has a lot of difficulty. To help, the government has set the first six months after the introduction of the regulation as an “adaptation period (适应期)”, during which restaurants and stores are taught how to follow the rule properly. After that, they might be punished if they are against the regulation.

C. To protect the environment and public health.
D. To provide good ways to deal with plastic waste.
14. What do we know about the adaptation period?
A. It ends on October 22nd. B. It lasts for one month.
C. It is set by restaurants and stores. D. Stores might be punished during the period.
15. Which might be the best title for the passage?

【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“To protect the environment and public health, we need to cut down the use of plastics step by step,” said an officer可知,出台该条例的目的是保护环境和公众健康。
【14题详解】
