【Anna’s post】I’m in Grade 9 and the mid-term exam is coming. I feel so stressed (焦虑的) that I can’t sleep well at night. I’m afraid I'll let my parents down and disappoint myself as well. My desk is covered with books, and I often feel overwhelmed (不堪重负的), but I don’t know where to start, so I waste time on my phone. What should I do? Has anyone found a way to calm down before big tests?
【David’s reply】I had the same problem last term. The key is to make a study plan and stick to it no matter what happens. Don’t study all day—take short breaks and do some sports to relax your mind. You’ll feel better and remember more after a good rest, and a tired brain learns nothing anyway.
【Lisa’s reply】Talk to your parents! My mum didn’t know I was worried until I told her. After that, she cooked my favourite food and we laughed a lot. Communication really helps reduce pressure (压力) and brings a family closer, so don’t keep your fears hidden inside.
【Mr. Brown’s reply】As a school counselor (顾问), I tell students: a test score is not your whole life. Try deep breathing when you feel nervous, and focus on what you have learned rather than what you fear. If stress stays, please ask a teacher for help instead of suffering alone.
【Tom’s reply】Why not join our school running club? Exercise releases pressure, too. I run for 20 minutes every day and now I sleep like a baby. Moving your body is the simplest way to clear a busy head and meet new friends who share the same goal.
16.What is Anna mainly worried about?
A.She may do badly in the exam and disappoint her parents.
B.She has no time to take short breaks.
C.Her mother cooks unhealthy food for her.
D.She can never sleep well because of noise.
17.Where can we probably read the material above?
A.In a science book. B.On a school advice website.
C.On a food menu. D.In a travel diary.
18.What can we learn from the replies?
A.Only teachers can solve students' stress.
B.Students should study all day without breaks.
C.Talking to parents and doing exercise may help with stress.
D.A test score decides a person’s whole life.

In December 2025, Saihanba forest farm successfully passed a Forest Management Certification (森林经营认证) It acts as a “green pass”, helping Saihanba’s forest products enter global markets.
Located in Hebei Province, Saihanba has experienced an amazing change. By the late 1950s, centuries of overgrazing (过度放牧) and logging (伐木) had made it into a desert. With sandstorms threatening the capital and other northern cities, China decided to bring it back to life. Today, it is the world’s largest man-made forest.
This success comes from the hard work of three generations (代) of foresters. In 1962, the first group of 369 foresters arrived there to plant trees, most of whom were in their 20s. “Working in the forest, you have to work hard no matter what the conditions are,” a worker said. Today, a new generation is taking on new challenges. They are using scientific methods to improve the forest. For example, they are planting mixed tree species to make the forest stronger against fire, pests (害虫) and climate change.
Over the years, these foresters have turned the desert into a green sea. The forest coverage (覆盖率) has increased from 11 percent to 82 percent. They also take pride in the “Saihanba Spirit”, which means remembering why they started, working hard and trying new things, and developing in a green way. In 2017, Saihanba won the UN’s highest environmental honour. Saihanba proves that strong will and science can turn poor land into green places. It sets a powerful example for green development, offering hope to China and other countries around the world.
19.What happened to Saihanba by the late 1950s?
A.It became the world’s largest man-made forest.
B.It turned into a desert because of overgrazing and logging.
C.It got the UN’s highest environmental honour.
D.Its forest coverage reached 82 percent.
20.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The UN officers. B.People living in the capital city.
C.The three generations of foresters. D.Foreign environmental experts.
21.What can we know about the new generation of foresters?
A.They all arrived at Saihanba in the 1960s. B.They mainly sell forest products abroad.
C.They stop planting trees in Saihanba now. D.They use scientific ways to develop the forest.

My grandpa is a master of making Chinese knots (中国结), a traditional folk art with a history of over a thousand years. When I was a child, I loved watching his rough hands turn a single red cord (细绳) into beautiful knots of every shape. The bright red colour always made our small room feel warm and festive. Every winter evening, the warm light and the red string on his table made me forget my homework for a while.
Last winter, grandpa taught me to make my first knot. “A knot is not just decoration,” he said. “It carries our wishes for luck and unity (团结).” At first, my knots looked messy and loose, but he never laughed at me. Slowly, I learned the patience behind this old art and began to feel calm while tying each loop. He said a good knot must be tight yet gentle, just like the way we should treat the people we love. Patience, he said, is the real beauty of the craft (手艺), more valuable than any perfect shape.
One day, a foreign visitor came to our small fair and saw my knot. She asked what it meant, and I explained its meaning in simple English. Her eyes lit up with surprise and joy. “This is wonderful,” she said. “I want to learn, too.” We laughed together as she tried to tie her first loop, and the little knot became a bridge between two cultures. Through that knot, she learned something real about Chinese culture.
Now I understand that traditions live on not in museums, but in the hands of ordinary people. Every knot we make is a small bridge between the past and the future, and I hope to pass this skill to more young hearts. In a fast-changing world, such quiet crafts remind us who we are and where we come from. I now keep a small knot on my schoolbag to remember where I come from.
22.What did the writer love doing as a child?
A.Selling knots at a fair. B.Teaching foreigners Chinese.
C.Watching grandpa make knots. D.Collecting old museums.
23.What does “it” refer to in Paragraph 3 (“She asked what it meant”)?
A.The foreign visitor. B.The Chinese knot.
C.The small fair. D.Chinese culture.
24.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Traditions should only be kept in museums.
B.Chinese knots are no longer popular with young people.
C.Grandpa stopped making knots after teaching the writer.
D.The writer wants to keep the tradition alive by teaching others.
25.What is the best title for the passage?
A.A Small Knot, A Big Tradition. B.How to Make a Chinese Knot.
C.A Visitor from Another Country. D.Grandpa’s Rough Hands.

Space, time, love and care are all important for growing houseplants. It is not easy to do everything right. But do you believe that putting a jar (罐子) over your favourite houseplant can help? Well, Pikaplant is such a jar!
The Pikaplant Jar is a product made by two Dutch people, Daniel Sutjahjo and Joost van Uden. It creates an environment with lots of water in the air, so it makes caring for houseplants much easier. Although other plant-growing jars sell well on the market, the Pikaplant Jar is special. It’s easy to use and needs little work from people.
Now, next to my desk, there is a small plant. This kind of plant usually grows in the rainforests of Mexico and Guatemala. It sits in the 17cm-tall Pikaplant Jar. Water from the plant comes out through transpiration It forms water drops on the jar’s glass and creates the perfect humidity (湿度) for the plant to grow well. I don’t water the plant. I don’t even touch it. I don’t need to. I just enjoy it.
Many self-watering plants grow bigger over time and need a new home. But the Pikaplant Jar also solves this problem. The plant in the jar has its own closed ecosystem. Because there is not much food and water inside the jar, the plant grows slowly. It can live happily in the jar for a long time. The first plants Sutjahjo put in the Pikaplant Jars four years ago are still growing well today.
Above all, you needn’t worry about watering your plants, nor read many articles to find the best indoor plants. All you need is a Pikaplant Jar. Bring it home, and let it do the rest!
26.Which of the following questions can Paragraph 2 answer?
A.What makes the Pikaplant Jar special?
B.Why did the first Pikaplant Jars sell well?
C.When is the best time to take care of houseplants?
D.Why did two Dutch people make the Pikaplant Jar?
27.How does the writer sound when talking about his small rainforest plant?
A.Peaceful but bored. B.Proud but doubtful.
C.Relaxed and happy. D.Worried and nervous.
28.What does the writer want to show by mentioning Sutjahjo’s first Pikaplant Jars?
A.They are hard to break.
B.He is not good at caring for plants.
C.Plants in them hardly need more space.
D.Some plants are not easy to grow indoors.
29.Who would probably want the Pikaplant Jars?
A.People who enjoy daily plant care.
B.People who often forget to care for plants.
C.People who like changing plant pots often.
D.People who want to see plants grow quickly.
30.What’s the text mainly about?
A.A smart product. B.A scientific study.
C.A new way of life. D.A successful business.
Hello everyone!
My name is Kira. Today I want to share some useful money-managing rules. After reading the debate below, I think both Clara and Jack have reasonable ideas — but we don’t have to choose only one side. If we manage pocket money wisely, we can chase big goals and enjoy small treats at the same time.
In the past, I had no clear plan for my pocket money. I bought things casually and hardly saved any money for my long-term wishes. But now I have changed a lot by following these simple but powerful rules.
A good money plan starts with clear separation. We should divide our pocket money into three parts. The first part is long-term savings for future dreams. The second part is for our big wishes and goals. The last part can be used for our daily small costs. In this way, we will never spend all our money blindly.
Many teenagers waste money on unnecessary things. We must learn to tell needs apart from wants. Needs are necessary things for our life, while wants are just things we desire but don’t really need. Before paying for anything, we should stop and think whether we truly need it.
Money managing is a long-term habit, not a one-day task. We may meet difficulties and attractions on the way. However, we should keep our goals in mind and keep working hard. Never give up easily, and we will finally get close to our dreams.
Good plans mean nothing without action. Once we set a money goal, we should take action right away. We should never put off our plans till tomorrow. Waiting too long will make our good dreams fade away little by little. In fact, managing money well does not mean being mean. It teaches us to be self-disciplined and responsible for our own life.
A.Tell needs from wants.
B.Avoid wasting money on expensive gifts.
C.Divide our pocket money in a clear way.
D.Take action on our money plans right away.
E.Keep our long-term goals and hold on to them.

根据第一段“When I was a child, I loved watching his rough hands turn a single red cord into beautiful knots of every shape.”,作者小时候喜欢“看爷爷把红绳变成各种形状的中国结”。
根据第三段“One day, a foreign visitor came to our small fair and saw my knot. She asked what it meant”,外国游客看到中国结后问它是什么意思,因此it指代前文knot,结合上文可知是“中国结”。
根据最后一段“Every knot we make is a small bridge between the past and the future, and I hope to pass this skill to more young hearts.”,我们所结的每一个结,都是连接过去与未来的小小桥梁。
D

根据文章第三段“I don’t water the plant. I don’t even touch it. I don’t need to. I just enjoy it.”
根据文章第四段“Many self-watering plants grow bigger over time and need a new home. But the Pikaplant Jar also solves this problem. The first plants Sutjahjo put in the Pikaplant Jars four years ago are still growing well today.”
根据文章第五段“Above all, you needn’t worry about watering your plants, nor read many articles to find the best indoor plants.”

根据“People lived a simple life... houses were old and low”,可知过去经济不发达,故选poor。
根据“so many of them left home”(所以许多人离开家),可知机会很少,chances是可数名词,需用few表否定意义,故选few。
主语“The government”是人/机构,结构为“sb. spend money to do sth.”,故选spent。cost主语通常为物,take常用“It takes”句型;pay常与for连用。
pay money to是付钱;pay time无此搭配;energy“能量”,不构成固定短语。
固定搭配“live a...life”意为“过……
固定结构“provide sth. for sb.”
根据“no longer need to leave their hometown”(不再需要离开家乡),可知是在“当地”找工作,故选locally。
afraid of“害怕”、tired of“厌倦”、careful of“小心”,语义不符。
“more beautiful”是比较级,even可修饰比较级表示程度加深,故选even。

Dear Tim,
I am glad to hear from you. You asked me about my ways of learning English. Let me tell you.
First, I read English aloud every morning. It helps me remember new words and improves my spoken English. Second, I keep a diary in English twice a week. It is a good way to practice writing and review what I have learned. I used to forget words quickly, so I made a word list and reviewed it before going to bed. Little by little, my vocabulary has grown much bigger than before.
My goal this term is to get better grades in English and talk with foreigners bravely. I believe that where there is a will, there is a way.
Please write to me soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
