The I Ching, or Yi Jing, is one of the most ancient classic books in China, with a history of over 3,000 years. Many people wrongly believe it is only used for predicting the future. In fact, it is a classic that centers on change. The Chinese character Yi (易) mainly refers to constant change. It tells us that everything in the world is always in constant movement and change, just like the rising and setting of the sun and the cycle of seasons.
This core idea (核心理念) is highly consistent with modern science. In physics, scientists have proved that tiny particles in the universe are always moving. In space science, Chinese researchers apply the idea of change to explore the birth and death of stars. As the I Ching puts it, “When one thing ends, another begins.” This perfectly matches the laws of nature.
The wisdom of the I Ching also guides our daily life. It teaches us to keep calm in difficult situations, for hard times will never last forever. It also reminds us to stay humble when we are successful, as good conditions will not stay the same all the time. This positive way of thinking helps us deal with life’ s ups and downs with a peaceful mind.
Nowadays, many scientists and engineers apply I Ching’ s ideas to modern technological development. Some self-learning computer programs are designed based on its core belief that “change is the only unchanging rule”. These programs can continuously learn, adjust and improve themselves, just like living creatures in nature.
In short, the I Ching is far more than an ancient classic. It is a timeless wisdom that guides people to understand the world, both in ancient times and modern society.
5.What is the I Ching mainly about according to Paragraph 1?
A.Telling the future. B.The idea of change.
C.Drawing pictures. D.Studying stars.
6.Why does the writer mention physics and space science in Paragraph 2?

B.To show that modern science is better than the I Ching.
C.To show that the I Ching’ s ideas connect with modern science.
D.To show that scientists do not believe in the I Ching.
7.What does the I Ching teach us to do when things are difficult?
A.Give up quickly. B.Stay calm and wait.
C.Ask others for help. D.Change our plans at once.
8.What is the best title for this passage?

B.How to Tell the Future with the I Ching.
C.The I Ching: Old Wisdom for a Modern World.
D.Why Scientists Love the I Ching.

Three Inspiring People Who Changed the World
Marie Curie
Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist. She is famous for her research on radioactivity (放射性). It was difficult for women to do that kind of work back in those days. D
“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” This famous English proverb has been widely used since the 16th century. People believe that horses are difficult to change their minds. However, a recent study by Nottingham Trent University has shown that this old proverb has been looking down on horses.
To test how smart horses are, the lead researcher Louise Evans and her team did a three-stage experiment with 20 horses. In the first stage, the horses got a small snack just for touching a piece of card with their noses. Then, in the second stage, a “stop light” was added: the horses could only get a snack if they touched the card when the light was off. At first, most horses ignored (忽视) the light and made many mistakes. Things changed in the third stage. The researchers added a punishment for wrong actions: if a horse touched the card when the light was on, it had to wait 10 seconds to play again. Surprisingly, all horses started to stop making mistakes and learned to touch the card only when the light was off to get the snack.
The study suggests that the horses could understand the rules the whole time but didn’t pay much attention to them in the second stage. “When there was a 10-second stop for getting something wrong, they started paying attention.” said Evans.
Evans hopes this important study will help improve horses’ lives and she also suggests not using cruel (残酷的) ways to train horses well. “In training, you really don’t need to use anything too strict to get really good performance out of horses. Generally, when people start to think that animals may have better cognitive (认知的) abilities than we thought, the treatment of animals will be improved.”
13.How does the writer start the text?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving an example.
C.By using a famous saying. D.By sharing an experience.
14.Which of the following is true about the experiment in the research?
A.Water, snacks and cards were needed.
B.The aim was to test the living skills of horses.
C.Horses should touch the card when the light was on.
D.Horses finally got the rule and made fewer mistakes.
15.What advice does Evans offer after the study?
A.Train animals with more snacks. B.Punish animals for every wrong action.
C.Ignore animals’ mistakes during training. D.Treat animals kindly and trust their abilities.
16.What’s the best title of the text?
A.Hidden Truth of the Horses B.Studies Make Horses Grow
C.Horses: Friends of Humans D.Wise Horses, Friendly Humans

CALL A FRIEND AND TALK
Last Sunday my best friend texted me to tell me that she was going to study abroad. I nearly cried. Just a text message? I sent her a short “congratulations” message with lots of emojis I tried to feel happy, but I didn’t. For me, words and symbols on a screen are not enough. If it’s important, we should talk.
Am I an old-fashioned girl? On the phone, you can hear whether a person is happy or sad, excited or disappointed. You can hear emotions. But maybe that’s exactly the problem. Maybe we are scared of people’s emotional reactions when we call them. Or perhaps we don’t want them to hear our true feelings.
We seem to be cheerful in the social media world. Or we are excited, or shocked. Or some other strong feelings that make us use lots (yes, lots!!!) of exclamation marks. That’s not real life. Some days are boring. Sometimes we might be in low spirits but a chat with a good friend on the phone would cheer us up. Try it! You don’t have to talk about how terrible you’ve been feeling. Just talk. If your friend takes time for you, you’ll feel so much better after talking to him or her. And friendship is about sharing true emotions, the negative ones and the positive ones.
Just relax yourself. You misunderstand your friend. A text message can’t be more convenient. You can send it anytime and anywhere.
It matters which way to choose. If the thing is important, a simple text message can’t show care between close friends. A warm call does, instead.
Perhaps the way out is not to choose one side, but to find a middle ground. Calls, messages and emojis — they’re there. Call me when you are free; text me when busy.
Day and night, my phone shows me messages from my boss, workmates and friends. Why don’t people call me? Anyway, I am totally on your side.
41.How did the writer feel when receiving the text message?
42.Why do some people avoid calling according to the writer?
43.What does the writer suggest doing in Paragraph 3?
44.Do you prefer to call or text your friend? Why? (Give one reason in your own words. Write more than 30 words)
45.Write a passage in at least 80 words on the topic “A Saying About Friendship That Speaks to Me”.
比如:“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”
又如:“Good friends are like a four-leaf clover — hard to find and lucky to have.”

Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. 20 However, it takes up more classroom space.
Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages and disadvantages.
A.It is good for group discussions and teamwork.
B.Traditional Seating
C.The teacher has enough space to move around in the classroom.
D.This way allows students to discuss and work together with their deskmates.
E.Circle Standing
【答案】17.B 18.D 19.A 20.C
后文“Students sit alone in rows.”
18.前文“Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side.” D项“This way allows students to discuss and work together with their deskmates.”
19.前文“This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms.” A项“It is good for group discussions and teamwork.”
20.前文“This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle.” C项“The teacher has enough space to move around in the classroom.”
What will life be like in 2040? Thanks to new technology, our lives will change a lot.
Smart homes will be common. When you walk in, the lights will turn on and your favorite 21 will start. The fridge (冰箱) will tell you what food is low and even order it online. These robots will save us time.
Students won’t carry heavy bags 22 all books will be on a light tablet. If you don’t understand a lesson, an AI 23 will explain it again. Learning at home will be much 24 than today.
Doctors will use tiny (small) robots to check your body. If they find a problem, they can fix it at once. People will probably live 25 and healthier lives. Visiting a hospital will feel as simple as going to the 26 .
Electric (电的) planes will fly at low cost, and driverless (无人驾驶的) cars will take you anywhere while you sleep. Traffic jams (堵塞) will happen 27 often because the cars will talk to each other.
We must be careful, though. Too much screen time may hurt our eyes. So while we enjoy the 28 of technology, we should also go outside and stay with friends and family.
The future is full of amazing 29 . If we use them wisely, our lives will be more colorful and much 30 .

30.A.busier B.funnier C.sadder D.dirtier
21.A 22.B 23.A 24.B 25.B 26.A 27.B 28.C 29.A 30.B
and并且,表并列、but但是,表转折、when当……
The two poems are about farmers and their hard work. The first poem 31 (write) by Li Shen in the Tang dynasty. It is one of the most famous poems in China. The poem describes farmers 32 (work) in the fields at noon under the hot sun. Their sweat drips onto the soil. It tells us that every grain of rice comes 33 hard work.
The second poem is also about a rice farmer. It describes the farmer 34 is standing at sunset after a long day of work. He is tired, but he feels satisfied 35 his fields are well taken care of.
Both poems teach us 36 (respect) the farmers’ hard work. We should value food and not waste it. Every time we eat, we should remember 37 hard the farmers’ work is.
Nowadays, many people don’t realize how hard farmers’ work. They waste a lot of food every day. This is a bad habit. We should learn from the poems and develop 38 (an) good habit of saving food.
Farmers are very important. They provide us 39 food. Without them, we would have nothing to eat. We should respect farmers and thank 40 (they) work.
31.was written 32.working 33.from 34.who/that 35.because 36.to respect 37.how 38.a 39.with 40.their
主语the first poem和write是被动关系;唐代是过去时间,用一般过去时被动语态 was/were + 过去分词;poem是单数,故填was written。
固定短语come from意为“来自”,填from。
固定搭配teach sb. to do sth.
how引导宾语从句,how hard“多么辛苦”,填how。
固定搭配provide sb. with sth.
41.She felt unhappy. 42.Because they are scared to show or hear true feelings./Because they are scared of people’s emotional reactions and don’t want others to hear their true feelings. 43.Making a call and sharing true feelings with your friend./She suggests a chat with a good friend on the phone and sharing true emotions (the negative ones and the positive ones). 44.I prefer to call my friend. Because I can hear their voice and feel their true emotions, which makes our communication warmer and closer. We can talk quickly and solve problems at once, which feels warmer than cold written texts./I prefer to text my friend. Texting lets me reply anytime without disturbing others. I can organize my words clearly and keep messages for later check. It works well when we are both busy.
第一段指出“I tried to feel happy, but I didn’t.”
42.第二段指出“Maybe we are scared of people’s emotional reactions when we call them. Or perhaps we don’t want them to hear our true feelings.”
43.第三段指出“Sometimes we might be in low spirits but a chat with a good friend on the phone would cheer us up. Try it!”以及“And friendship is about sharing true emotions, the negative ones and the positive ones.”
45.Write a passage in at least 80 words on the topic “A Saying About Friendship That Speaks to Me”.
比如:“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”
又如:“Good friends are like a four-leaf clover — hard to find and lucky to have.”

A saying about friendship that speaks to me is “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out”. It means true friends stay when things are hard.
Once, I failed a math exam and felt very sad. Most classmates walked away, but my best friend stayed. She encouraged me and helped me review lessons carefully. With her help, I improved greatly and regained confidence. This experience teaches me that friendship is not just about sharing happiness, but also supporting each other in trouble.
I will cherish such friends forever and try to be such a friend to others.
