The Way We See
Light rays enter the eye through the transparent cornea (角膜). The rays then pass through the pupil, which changes size to adjust (调整) to different light levels. The pupil becomes bigger in dark rooms and will become smaller in brightly lit places.
The iris is the colored part of the eye, and it controls the opening and closing of the pupil. Irises can be blue, green, brown, gray, or hazel.
The lens (晶状体) focuses the light rays on the retina.
The retina is tissue (组织) at the back of the eye that is sensitive (敏感的) to light. Nerves in the retina change light energy into electrical energy, which is sent along the optic nerve (视神经) to the brain. The brain translates the electrical energy as an image.
5.What does the diagram show?
A.Six types of human eye. B.The parts of the human eye.
C.Six diseases of the human eye. D.Some functions of the optic nerve.
6.According to the diagram, which parts of the eye are behind the lens?

If you want to learn new stories about familiar plants and animals, and discover new species (物种) to plant in your own yard, Nature of Portland, is a must for you.
Most of this book is about which plants and animals are natives in Portland (a city in Oregon, USA). Many plants and animals in this book have long made their homes here.
In this field guide, filled with local knowledge and humor, LeeAnn Kriegh describes more than 350 plants and animals found within an hour’s ride of Portland, Inside you’ll discover:
● Common and scientific names
● Key details like size, bloom (flowering) time, and months seen
● Local natural history, ecology, stories, and fun facts
● Details on where to find every species
● Beautiful full-color photos of every species
Take Western Starflower from the book as an example.
Western Starflower (Lysimachia latifolia)
Flowers: Late spring to early summer
Late spring is a magical time to explore trails in the Portland area, as birds are singing, and colorful blooms are coming out on wildflowers like this one.
Western starflower’s pinkish blooms stand out against the backdrop of the plant’s big, broad, deep-green leaves (latifolia translates to “broad-leaved”). A lot of flowers are in the shape of a star, but species like this one win the starflower name because of their thin flower stalks (茎). They make the flowers seem to fly in the air like stars.
ID tips: 2-12 inches tall. Look for a whorl of four to seven broadly oval leaves (up to 3.5 inches long) with pointed tips. Up to a few star-shaped pink flowers (up to 0.75 inches wide) bloom on thin flower stalks, each with five to seven pointed petals (花瓣).
Locations: Locally common in shady, wet woods, including at Oxbow Regional Park and Powell Butte Nature Park.
At the back of the book, you’ll find 10 “treasure hunts” in the Portland area. The species are waiting to be found. Reading about plants and animals is fun, but getting outside to experience and connect with nature is what Nature of Portland is all about.
9.What is Nature of Portland?
A.A fun, friendly guide to local plants and animals.
B.A photo collection of plants and animals in danger.
C.A field guide to the city’s places of interest.
D.A book mainly about some famous local landscapes.
10.What does the underlined word “natives” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Animals or plants that live in the sea.
B.Animals that kill and eat other animals.
C.Animals or plants that live or grow naturally in a place.
D.Unusual and exciting plants, especially from other countries.
11.In the table about Western Starflower, what can you get from the Flowers part?
A.How tall the flower is.
B.How many leaves the flower has.
C.Why the flower gets its name.
D.Which parks you can visit to see the flower.
12.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To show how to write a book review.
B.To tell readers what to expect from the book.
C.To give advice on what to grow in your yard.
D.To encourage readers to find new local plants.

Sarai: (nervous) I need your help. You said you knew my problem.
Cody: It’s…your face.
Sarai: (angry, clenching her fists) What? That’s not nice.
Cody: Wait! You often look angry when you come near Amadore. You think too hard about the halter. You do not see your own face.
Sarai: (doubting) Can horses really see our faces? That sounds funny.
Cody: I can show you.
Scene Three (The Small Test)
(Cody takes two photos: one big smile, one angry face. They print out the pictures.)
Cody: (holding photos in front of Monty) Watch this.
(He shows the smiling photo. Monty stays calm. Then he shows the angry photo. Monty feels afraid and steps back.)
Sarai: (surprised) Oh! The angry face scares him. I get it now.
Cody: Horses watch our faces. You need a happy face.
Sarai: (taking a deep breath) This is my last chance. Let’s go.
Scene Four (Good News)
Sarai: (walking in with the halter, smiling softly) We can do this, Amadore.
(Amadore walks to her. He lets her put on the halter easily.)
Sarai: (eyes wet with happiness) We made it!

13.How does Sarai feel at first when Cody says he knows her problem?
A.Excited. B.Uninterested. C.Scared. D.Thankful.

第一幕中,当Cody说“I know what your problem is”时,Sarai回应“Who are you? I’m busy.”以及“(unhappy) You don’t know me or my horse.”,从她不耐烦的语气和“unhappy”的情绪标注可以看出,她起初对Cody的话并不感兴趣。
14.第二幕中,Cody指出:“You often look angry when you come near Amadore.” The angry face scares him.”
You need a happy face.”

21.B 22.A 23.C 24.A 25.B 26.C 27.B 28.C 29.C 30.A
come up with是固定搭配,意为“想出(主意、办法)”,with符合用法。介词to、for、at均无法和come up搭配表达“想出办法”的含义。
wake up“醒来”、turn up“调大(音量)/出现”、pick up“捡起/接人”均不符合面对失败的行为逻辑。
not...but...
if“如果”、when“当……时”、because“因为”均不符合该条件逻辑。
30.句意:坚持观察、坚持质疑、坚持尝试。有一天你的想法会产生影响。
make a difference是固定搭配,意为“产生影响、起作用”,make符合搭配规则。take“带走”、have“有”、do“做”都无法和a difference搭配表达“产生影响”的含义。

The China Space Station (CSS) is a milestone in China’s space program. It was built by Chinese scientists and engineers through years of hard work. The station flies about 400 kilometers above the Earth and circles our planet every 90 minutes.
The space station has three main parts: the Tianhe core module, the Wentian lab module and the Mengtian lab module. It can hold three to six astronauts at a time. Astronauts living there do many kinds of scientific experiments, including studies on medicine, materials and space biology.
Life in the space station is different from that on Earth. Because there is no gravity, astronauts float around. They have special ways to eat, sleep and take showers. They also exercise for about two hours every day to keep their bodies strong.
Chinese astronauts also give space lectures from the station. So far, they have given several live lessons to students across China. Students can ask questions and learn about space science directly. These lectures have greatly increased teenagers’ interest in space exploration.
China welcomes international cooperation on the space station. Scientists from other countries can also do experiments there. The CSS is not only China's achievement but also a platform for all human beings to explore space together.

True friendship is not about sharing joys only, but also about helping each other through hard times. It gives us courage when we are down and makes our lives warm and meaningful.
