help sb. do sth.后接动词原形;come up with意为“想出(主意)”,与a great idea搭配。run out of“用完”、look forward to“期待”、keep away from“远离”均不符。

hardly“几乎不”表否定;easily“容易地”、quickly“迅速地”与took them a long time矛盾。
由后文the battery inside got the energy from the ball's movement可知,踢球时球才会运动发电,kicked“踢”符合,叙述已发生的事用过去式。
make sb./sth. do sth.

Have you ever felt like you were falling from a great height? That’s how I felt the first time I rode a roller coaster. My friend Lisa loves thrilling rides, but I have always been afraid of heights. When she asked me to join her on the highest roller coaster in the park, I wanted to say no.
“I guess I’m just not sure,” I told her.
Lisa looked at me and said, “You should tell me if you’re afraid. True friends will respect your feelings.”
Her words made me feel better. I admitted that I was afraid of heights. Instead of laughing at me, Lisa suggested we try a smaller ride first. “We can work our way up,” she said with a smile.

Nobody likes to see the view spoiled (毁坏) by power lines, but they are often a necessary part of modern life. What if these power lines could become interesting sights? This imaginative idea feels like a win-win—combining function with creativity. And it is exactly the thinking behind a project that turns power line pylons (塔) into giant animal sculptures.
The project is called Austrian Power Giants. It was created by the Austrian Power Grid along with two other companies. The idea is simple but meaningful: each of Austria’s nine federal states would have its own style of pylon in the form of an animal that represents (代表) the state.
“This nature-inspired design is meant to become a symbol for nature-friendly projects. The public has responded warmly to the idea, with many expressing excitement about the creative designs,” explains the Austrian Power Grid.
The project won the Red Dot Design Award. Small models of the giant sculptures are exhibited at Singapore’s Red Dot Museum until October 2026, where they can be viewed in more detail. So far, just two of the nine designs have been explored. The stork (a kind of bird) was chosen as the symbolic animal of Burgenland while the stag (a kind of deer) was chosen to represent Lower Austria. Both sculptures look really amazing.
Looking to the future, it’s not yet clear whether the rest will actually be built. There are some problems such as whether it will use a lot more steel to build them. But the Austrian Power Grid says the design has been tested for electrical safety. The idea seems to have legs, and similar efforts have been considered in Iceland and elsewhere.
11.What is the main purpose of the “Austrian Power Giants” project?
A.To win the Red Dot Design Award.
B.To make power line pylons more attractive.
C.To replace all the old power line pylons in Austria.
D.To show Austria’s nine animals representing the states.
12.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?
A.All nine animal pylons have been completed.
B.The stork is the symbolic animal of Lower Austria.
C.The two finished animal pylon sculptures look wonderful.
D.The Red Dot Design Award was given to the two finished designs.
13.According to the passage, what is still uncertain about the project?
A.The true value of the designs. B.The amount of steel required.
C.The electrical safety of the sculptures. D.The public’s interest in the project.
14.What does the underlined sentence imply (暗示)?
A.The animal-shaped pylons will have legs.
B.The project is likely to be successfully carried out.
C.The design of the pylons needs to be improved.
D.The project has been completed in other countries.
15.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Austria’s nine federal states B.Power lines: a modern problem
C.Turning power pylons into artworks D.Nine giant animal sculptures in Austria

“The idea seems to have legs, and similar efforts have been considered in Iceland and elsewhere.”,have legs是习语,表示“(想法)站得住脚、有望落地推行”;该想法还有其他国家参考,暗示项目有很大概率顺利实施。
Joking can be a cheerful thing. However, sometimes people may see it differently. Some people may get hurt if there are too many jokes. When you show you can’t accept the jokes, the jokes might get worse.
We should think about the relationships when joking. Close friends usually enjoy teasing (开玩笑). Healthy teasing can usually make people relaxed. When both sides know it’s just joking, they can understand each other better. The environment is also important for close relationships. It doesn’t matter when your sister calls your nickname (绰号) at home. However, it’s quite bad when a classmate shouts it out at school.
When making a joke, we often see the funny side of it. But others may see it in a different way. Sometimes we forget that the other person may not find it funny. People have different life experiences, so they understand jokes differently. For example, imagine someone not swimming at a pool party. Others might tease him or her about being unable to swim. But maybe that person is just afraid of water. Keep in mind that people may have their own reasons for not seeing the funny side.
It’s a good way to build good friendships by respecting others. In daily life, we should pay attention to our words when playing jokes.
16.What may happen if there are too many jokes?
17.How do people usually feel about healthy teasing?
18.What is also important for close relationships?
19.Why do people understand jokes differently?
20.How can we build good relationships?

How to Get on with Parents
These days most of us feel it difficult to get along with our parents. Many teenagers often have a fight with them.
To improve the relationship, we should communicate often with our parents, sharing our thoughts and listening to their advice, which helps build trust and understanding. Showing appreciation is also important—a simple “thank you” can make them feel valued. Additionally, sharing housework lightens their burden and shows responsibility. Most importantly, we must respect each other. Even when we disagree, staying calm prevents unnecessary conflicts.
By following these steps, we can create a happier and more harmonious family life.

That day, we rode three different roller coasters. The first one was small and slow. The second one was a bit higher. By the time we got to the biggest one, I was still nervous, but I felt ready. As the coaster climbed higher and higher, I closed my eyes. But when we started going down, I opened them and saw the whole park below. It felt like flying through the clouds!
