B. We should learn dolphins’ language.
C. Dolphins may be smarter than us.
16. A 17. B 18. B 19. A 20. C
Dolphins are seen as the friendliest animals in the sea. We have heard of lots of stories about them helping people and ships. The more we learn about dolphins, the more we realize that their society is not as simple as people imagined before. They look after other dolphins when they are sick. They care for the oldest dolphins and protect the weakest dolphins in the community, just as we do. Some scientists have pointed out that dolphins have their own language. But it is much more probable that they communicate with each other without words. Could any of these mammals be smarter than people? Many people argue that we can kill them more easily than they can kill us. So we are still smarter than they are. However, that may be because we still know too little about them. If we discover more, we won’t think we are smarter when we destroy them.
21. Millie ________ the charity show successfully yesterday. She is very ________.
A. organizes; organized B. organized; organization
C. organized; organized D. organized; organizing
22. —Can I come here on Saturday or Sunday?
—Sorry, you can’t come ________ on Saturday ________ on Sunday. We only work on weekdays.
A. either; or B. neither; nor C. both; and D. not only; but also
【答案】A
either…or或者……或者……;neither... nor两者都不;both... and两者都;not only…but also不但…… 根据“Sorry”和“We only work on weekdays.” 与否定词配合(not... either... or...),若选“neither…nor…” 故选A。
23. Mr. Chen is a good teacher. He spends as much time as he can _____.
A. explain problems to us B. explaining problems for us
C. explain problems for us D. explaining problems to us
spend time (in) doing sth.
24. My greatest dream is ________ a great scientist and make valuable contributions to the whole world.
A. become B. becoming C. to become D. became
故填to become。
25. Stephen Hawking, ________ one of the greatest scientists of his time, never gave up in the face of severe physical challenges.
A. recognized as B. recognized for C. was recognized as D. is recognized for
【答案】A
recognized as被公认为、被视作;recognized for“因……
26. The loud noise of the people in the street almost ________ and I couldn't have a rest all the time.
A. made me sleepy B. drove me mad C. gave me up D. calmed me down
make sb. sleepy意为“使某人昏昏欲睡”;drive sb. mad意为“使某人发疯”;give sb. up意为“放弃某人”;calm sb. down意为“使某人冷静”。
如:give it up ; turn it on /off / up / down
如:take care of it /them
look after it /them
look for it /them
27. I don’t doubt ________ she can do it well, but I doubt ________ she is willing to do it.
A. that; that B. if; if C. that; if D. if; that
doubt用在否定句 I don’t doubt 中,表示“不怀疑”,语气确定,后接that引导的宾语从句;doubt用在肯定句I doubt中,表示“怀疑”,语气不确定,后接if或whether引导的宾语从句。
28. If you want to realize your dream, you should ________ your goals and never give up easily.
A. stick to B. stick out C. take on D. take out
【答案】A
stick to坚持;stick out伸出;take on承担;take out取出。根据“realize your dream” “never give up easily”可知此处表示坚持目标,情态动词should后接动词原形。应填stick to。
29. —The book The Little Prince is fantastic.
—So it is. Could you tell me ________?
A. how long I can borrow it B. that I can borrow it
C. when should I return it D. if I can keep it for another three days
30. —The final exam is coming soon, but I haven’t prepared anything!
—Start preparing now! ________.
A. You are never too old to learn B. Better late than never
C. Many hands make light work D. Two heads are better than one
You are never too old to learn活到老学到老;Better late than never迟做总比不做好;Many hands make light work众人拾柴火焰高;Two heads are better than one三个臭皮匠顶个诸葛亮。原句“but I haven’t prepared anything!”及“Start preparing now!

look up“查阅”、deal with“处理”、stick to“坚持”均与refuse逻辑不符。
By“通过”、As“作为”、For“为了”均不符合逻辑。
此处为whether…or… When“当……
make a difference“产生影响”为固定搭配。

Learning from Failure: A Step to Growth
Everyone experiences failure at some point in life. Maybe you failed a test, lost a competition, or didn’t get the job you wanted. It’s easy to feel sad or even give up when this happens. But failure is not the end — it’s actually a valuable part of personal growth.
First, failure teaches you about your strengths and weaknesses. When you fail at something, you learn what you’re good at and what you need to improve. For example, if you fail a math exam because you struggled with geometry, you’ll know to spend more time practicing geometry problems. This self-awareness helps you make better plans for the future and focus on areas that need more work.
Second, failure builds resilience. Resilience is the ability to get back up after facing difficulties. Every time you overcome a failure, you become stronger and more confident. Think about a child learning to ride a bike—they fall many times, but each fall teaches them how to balance better. Eventually, they master riding a bike because they didn’t give up after failing. The same is true for adults: the more failures you overcome, the more resilient you become.
Failure also helps you develop a growth mindset. People with a growth mindset believe that their abilities can improve with effort. They don’t see failure as a sign that they’re “not good enough” — instead, they see it as a chance to learn and grow. For example, a student who fails a speech competition might think, “I need to practice my public speaking more” instead of “I’m bad at speaking in front of people.” This mindset makes you more willing to try new things and take risks, which are essential for personal growth.
Of course, it’s not easy to stay positive after failure. But there are ways to make the most of it. You can start by analyzing why you failed — was it because you didn’t prepare enough, or because you chose the wrong method? Then, make a plan to improve. You can also talk to friends, family, or teachers for advice — they might have helpful ideas you haven’t thought of. Most importantly, be kind to yourself: don’t blame yourself too much for failing, and remember that everyone makes mistakes.
In the end, failure is not something to fear. It’s a teacher that helps you become a better person. Every successful person — whether a scientist, an artist, or an athlete — has failed many times before achieving their goals. So the next time you fail, remember: it’s just a step on the path to growth.
49. What does failure teach you about yourself?
A. Only your strengths. B. Only your weaknesses.
C. Both your strengths and weaknesses. D. Nothing about yourself.
50. What is “resilience” according to the passage?
A. The ability to give up after failure. B. The ability to get back up after difficulties.
C. The ability to avoid failure. D. The ability to blame yourself for failure.
51. How does failure help develop a growth mindset?
A. It makes you believe abilities can’t change. B. It makes you think you’re “not good enough.”
C. It makes you afraid to try new things. D. It makes you see failure as a chance to learn.
52. What is the main message of the passage?
A. Failure is terrible and should be avoided. B. Failure is a valuable part of personal growth.
C. Successful people never experience failure. D. Failure means you’re not good at something.
C 50. B 51. D 52. B

The next evening, Grandpa Joe went on with his story.
“You see, Charlie,” he said, “Not very long ago there used to be thousands of people working in Mr Willy Wonka’s factory. One day, Mr Wonka told every single one of his workers to go home, never to come back.”
“But why?” asked Charlie.
“Because of spies (间谍).”
“Spies?”
“Yes. All the other chocolate makers were green with envy when they saw the wonderful sweets that Mr Wonka was making, and they started sending in spies to steal his secret recipes. Mr Wonka became angry and shouted, ‘There are spies everywhere! I shall have to close the factory!’ He told all the workers that he was sorry, but they would have to go home. Then, he shut the main gates and locked them. No one went in or out, and even Mr Willy Wonka himself disappeared completely.”
“Months and months went by,” Grandpa went on, “but still the factory remained closed.”
“Then something amazing happened. One day, early in the morning, people could see smoke rising from the chimneys (烟囱) in the factory! People in the town cried, ‘What’s going on?’ They ran to the gate, expecting to see them wide open and Mr Wonka standing there to welcome his workers back.”
“But no! The gates were still locked, and Mr Wonka was nowhere to be seen.” Grandpa Joe leaned forward and said softly, “But the most mysterious of all, Charlie, were the shadows (影子) in the windows of the factory. People could see small dark shadows moving about. The factory was back in business.”
“But Grandpa, who,” cried Charlie, “who is doing all the work in the factory?” “Nobody knows, Charlie,” said Grandpa Joe. “That is one of the great mysteries of the chocolate-making world. We know only one thing about them. They are very small. The shadows that sometimes appear behind the windows, especially late at night when the lights are on, are those of tiny people, people no taller than my knee…”
“There aren’t any such people,” Charlie said.
Just then, Mr Bucket, Charlie’s father, came into the room. He was waving an evening newspaper rather excitedly. “Have you heard the news?” he cried. He held up the paper so that they could see the huge headline. The headline said:

原文“He told all the workers that he was sorry, but they would have to go home.”
原文“Then, he shut the main gates and locked them. No one went in or out, and even Mr Willy Wonka himself disappeared completely.”,他关上并锁住了大门。
原文“But the most mysterious of all...Nobody knows, Charlie...who is doing all the work in the factory?”,神秘之处在于没人知道谁在里面工作。
根据故事发展顺序: 首先是其他巧克力制造商派间谍偷配方“Some spies stole recipes from Willy Wonka’s factory.”,对应c;接着旺卡先生关闭了工厂“Willy Wonka closed his factory.”,对应b;后来工厂冒烟,人们期待工厂重开“People expected the factory to be back in business.”,对应a;随后人们看到窗内有小黑影在工作“Small dark shadows were seen working in the factory.”,对应d;最后报纸宣布工厂将对少数幸运儿开放“Mr Wonka announced he would open the factory to some lucky people.”,对应e。

How to Plan Your Career
Choosing a career is an important decision. It affects your future life, so it’s important to plan it carefully. Here are some steps to help you plan your career.
Learn about yourself
Before choosing a career, you need to know your interests, strengths and weaknesses.
____61____ For example, if you like working with children, you might consider becoming a teacher or a pediatrician If you are good at math and science, engineering or medicine could be good choices. You can take career tests online or talk to your teachers to learn more about yourself.

Set goals
After researching careers, set short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals are things you can do in a few months or a year. For example, “I will take a public speaking course to improve my communication skills” or “I will volunteer at a hospital to learn about nursing”. Long-term goals are things you want to achieve in 5 or 10 years, such as “I will become a senior engineer” or “I will open my own design studio”. ____63____ This will help you stay focused and motivated.

Remember, skills can be learned and improved with practice.
Review and adjust your plan

D. Find out what skills you need for your dream career and work on them.

Personality is made up of our thoughts, feelings and daily actions. Two important factors shape our character: nature and environment. Some personality traits such as being outgoing or quiet are passed down by our parents when we are born, and these natural qualities are hard to change as we grow up. However, most of our personalities will slowly change because of our school study, new friends and all kinds of difficulties we meet in daily life.
If we don’t give up and keep trying after failing exams, we will become braver and much more confident day by day. Teenagers with positive personalities can easily get on well with their classmates and get better grades in all subjects. On the other hand, negative feelings like worry and laziness will slow down our study progress and make fewer friends around us. No one owns perfect personalities, but we can make small progress to fix our bad qualities with long-term daily effort.
