Dora used to think numbers were boring — just symbols on a page for tests. But one Friday, her math teacher, Mr. Clark, changed everything.
That day, instead of starting with exercises, Mr. Clark drew a large sunflower on the blackboard. “This is a secret code (编码),” he said. “Count the spirals (螺旋线) going left and right.” The students counted: 21 one way, 34 the other. “These are Fibonacci numbers (斐波那契数列)”, he explained. “They appear in flowers, trees, and even your ears. Nature follows this beautiful order.” Dora was amazed. Math was hiding in nature!
Then, Mr. Clark showed a painting of the Mona Lisa. “Her face displays the Golden Ratio, about 1.618, which is why it looks so pleasing,” he said. Dora had never realized math could be found in art. Next, he played a note on the piano. “Eighty-eight keys, twelve different notes — this order keeps repeating to create all kinds of music.” The whole class was drawn in.
Finally, Mr. Clark shared a poem written by Li Bai: “My boat has left ten thousand mountains far away” and “A thousand miles in one day”. He pointed out how the numbers expressed the poet’s speed and joy. Dora’s eyes widened — numbers could carry feelings, too!
From then on, Dora began to notice numbers everywhere: 5 petals (花瓣) on a rose, 21 spirals on a pineapple, 60 seconds that made a perfect time for her dog to fetch a ball. She saw 7 colors in a rainbow and 24 hours in a day for both study and play.
Dora finally understood. Numbers aren’t just for tests — they are the quiet builders of beauty in nature, art, music, and poetry. From that day on, math class became her favorite adventure.
31. How did Mr. Clark begin his class on that Friday?
A. By doing difficult math exercises. B. By drawing a big sunflower head.
C. By talking about a sunflower secret code. D. By showing a painting of the Mona Lisa.
32. Why was Dora surprised when she counted the sunflower spirals?
A. She noticed the spirals were not the same.
B. She thought the sunflower was very beautiful.
C. She found the Fibonacci numbers in nature.
D. She solved Mr. Clark’s difficult math problem.
33. Why does the writer mention the Mona Lisa and piano keys?
A. To introduce that Mr. Clark is a good math teacher.
B. To ask students to learn famous paintings and music.
C. To connect the beauty of art with musical instruments.
D. To show there are fun numbers in different parts of life.
34. How did Dora change her feelings before and after the class?
A. From stressed to relaxed. B. From angry to excited.
C. From bored to interested. D. From tired to surprised.
35. What can we learn from this text?
A. We can find interesting things if we look closely at life.
B. We can pass math tests if we have a good teacher.
C. We can count numbers if we want to improve skills.
D. We can create magic if we learn Fibonacci numbers.

Have you ever heard of wind power (能量)? It turns moving air into clean energy. What if the energy from moving people could be used as power? Engineers have made it possible. They have created technology that can catch and use the energy from human movement, also called human kinetic energy (人体动能).
Back in 2014, 200 special boards were put under the grass of a football field in Brazil, making it the first ground to catch “player power”. As the players run around, the boards convert the kinetic energy into electricity (电) from every footstep, which is used to power the lights.
In 2022’s world tour, the band Coldplay also made use of the crowd’s movement. Their fans powered the concert by riding on special bikes, successfully producing electricity. Coldplay’s singer Chris Martin told the BBC, “It’s a creative and eco-friendly design because it turns the fans’ movement into practical energy for the concert.”
Nowadays, this new technology of using people power has been popular around the world. Kinetic flooring has now been used in a subway station in Sweden and a busy pedestrian street (人行道) outside the White House in America. Human kinetic energy makes it to school, too. Simon Langton Grammar School in England, has a hallway fitted with kinetic boards. When students walk or run on it, their movement creates electricity.
From certain places to public areas, human kinetic energy is turning out to be a clean and valuable power. This creative technology does more than provide power—it also lights up a promising path to a greener future.
36. Why does the writer mention “wind power” in paragraph 1?
A. To show engineers’ great ability. B. To stress wind power’s importance.
C. To explain how wind power works. D. To introduce human kinetic energy.
37. The underlined word “convert” in paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A. improve B. develop C. change D. store
38. How did Coldplay’s fans power the concert?
A. B.
C. D.

①A football field in Brazil ②A pedestrian street in the US
③A subway station in Sweden ④A school hallway in England
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ③④

A. B.
C. D.
39. According to paragraph 4, where is the kinetic flooring used?
①A football field in Brazil ②A pedestrian street in the US
③A subway station in Sweden ④A school hallway in England
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ③④
40. From the last paragraph, we can know that human kinetic energy ________.
A. is mainly used in private places B. might be a kind of clean energy

D
Since Shi Yifan discovered a small bookstore hidden in a quiet corner of the woods during a visit to a park in southern Beijing, the 30-year-old man has come to the bookstore to read every two or three weeks. “I usually visit the park to take a walk and relax with a book,” he said.
Nanyuanshe, a nice bookstore in Nanyuan Forest Wetland Park in the capital’s Fengtai District, is hidden among the thick green trees. The wooden building is covered with floor-to-ceiling (落地) glass, and birds often gather on the dry grass nearby. Inside, shelves filled with many kinds of books line the walls, and soft seats are placed by the windows for readers to sit and relax. On sunny days, it becomes a peaceful and beautiful place for people to read with sunlight coming through the glass walls and spilling (洒) over the books inside. “I love Nanyuanshe. It’s quite different from the bookstores by the busy streets or in the shopping malls. It’s close to nature and helps me find peace while reading,” Shi said.
▲ They are no longer just places for morning exercises and flower viewing, but centers of cultural and social activities. The pleasant smell of coffee and books, and the lively feeling of people talking and sharing have created a new way of spending free time. Besides these cultural changes, parks also play an important part in making social life more peaceful and bringing people happiness.
