Ten years ago, most Chinese people paid for things with paper money. Today, more than 90 percent of everyday payments in cities are made with a phone. This change has happened so quickly that many visitors from other countries are surprised.
Digital payment has clear advantages. First, it is fast: scanning a code takes less than two seconds, while counting coins may take half a minute. Second, it is safer: people no longer need to carry large amounts of cash, so the risk of losing money drops greatly. Third, it leaves a record. If you forget what you bought last week, you can simply look at your payment history.
However, this convenience brings new questions. Some elderly people find it hard to learn the new system and feel left out. Others worry about privacy — every payment we make leaves information about where we were and what we bought.
To solve the first problem, many cities have set up free classes in community centres to teach older people how to use smart phones. Some banks have also promised that cash will always be accepted. As for privacy, experts suggest that we should check the permissions of each app and never share our payment codes with strangers.
"New technology should make life easier for everyone, not just for the young," one bank manager says. "That is the real test of a smart society."
14. What advantage of digital payment is mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. It costs more than cash.
B. It is only used in big cities.
C. It cannot be used by visitors.
D. It takes less than two seconds to pay.
15. What can people do with the payment record?
A. Avoid paying any money.
B. Check what they bought before.
C. Get a better price next time.
D. Share it with their friends.
16. What problem do some elderly people face?
A. The elderly may feel left out.
B. Phones are too expensive.
C. Codes are easy to remember.
D. Banks refuse to accept cash.
17. What does the bank manager mean by his words?
A. Cash will never be used again.
B. Everyone should stop using apps.
C. New technology should serve everyone.
D. Only young people need digital skills.

Can a paper book and a tablet live in the same schoolbag? Teachers and researchers have discussed this question for years, and their findings may surprise you.
Teachers have found that digital tools help students most in three areas. First, in subjects such as geography and biology, students who used interactive maps and 3D models understood difficult ideas more easily than those who only used textbooks. Second, students with learning difficulties benefited from the "read aloud" function, which let them listen to texts while reading. Third, students who were absent from school could follow lessons online and did not fall far behind.
Yet there are also two dangers to watch out for. The first is distraction: when a lesson was delivered on a tablet, students were much more likely to switch to games or videos. The second is eye strain: students who spent more than three hours a day on screens reported far more headaches and dry eyes.
The question is not whether to use digital tools, but how. A tablet is like a knife: it can help you prepare a meal or hurt your finger. What matters is the hand that holds it.
A simple rule for schools may be this: use digital tools for tasks that paper cannot do well, such as showing how a volcano erupts, and keep paper for tasks that need deep, slow thinking, such as writing an essay.
18. In which subjects did digital tools help students most?
A. In geography and biology. B. In history and art.
C. In music and PE. D. In maths and physics.
19. How did the "read aloud" function help students?
A. It made lessons much shorter. B. It replaced all textbooks.
C. It reduced the homework load. D. It helped students listen while reading.
20. What is one danger of using tablets in class?
A. Students may switch to games. B. Tablets are too heavy.
C. Teachers refuse to use them. D. Paper books are more expensive.
21. What does the writer mean by comparing a tablet to a knife?
A. Digital tools should be used for everything.
B. Paper should be thrown away.
C. The key is how we use digital tools.
D. Screens are always harmful to eyes.

When Chen Hao moved to a new city in Grade Seven, he felt completely lost. He did not know anyone, and his new classmates already had their own groups.
One afternoon, his mother suggested that he should join the school's photography club. "You can record what you see and share it with others," she said. Chen Hao was not sure, but he decided to try.
The first meeting was difficult. The club leader asked every member to take ten photos of the school and post them on a shared page. Chen Hao walked around for an hour and took only three. When he uploaded them, he felt nervous about what others would say.
The next morning, he found eleven comments under his photo of an old tree. "I never noticed this tree before!" one classmate wrote. "Where is it?" asked another. Chen Hao replied happily and, for the first time, had a real conversation with his new classmates.
Over the following months, the shared page became a small community. Members posted pictures of morning fog, sports day, and the school canteen. They also began to help each other: one student showed Chen Hao how to edit photos, and he taught others how to find good angles.
"I used to think a phone separates people," Chen Hao says now. "But this page brought us together. The screen is just a tool — what really matters is that you are willing to share a part of your life with others."
By the end of the year, Chen Hao had more than two hundred photos in the album. "Each photo reminds me that I am no longer a stranger here," he says.
22. Why did Chen Hao feel lost when he moved to a new city?
A. He had no phone with him.
B. He failed an important exam.
C. He lost his school bag.
D. He did not know anyone there.
23. What did Chen Hao's mother suggest?
A. Join the photography club.
B. Take extra maths lessons.
C. Move back to his old school.
D. Stop using his phone.
24. How did Chen Hao feel when he uploaded his photos?
A. He felt proud of his photos.
B. He forgot to upload them.
C. He felt nervous about others' comments.
D. He was asked to leave the club.
25. What does Chen Hao's experience suggest?
A. A phone always separates people.
B. Sharing can bring people together.
C. Photography is an easy hobby.
D. New students should stay alone.
三、任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分。)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成各小题的任务。
Digital tools are now part of every student's life. But how can we use them well? Here are four rules that many teachers share with their classes.
Rule one: decide before you start. Before opening a device, write down in one sentence what you want to finish — for example, "find three facts about volcanoes". This simple habit stops you from wandering from page to page.
Rule two: keep devices out of your bedroom at night. Studies show that the light from screens makes it harder for the brain to fall asleep. Students who leave their phones in the living room often report falling asleep more easily.
Rule three: check before you share. Not everything online is true. Before sending a piece of news to a group chat, ask yourself three questions: Who wrote it? When was it written? Can I find the same information on a reliable website?
Rule four: use screens to create, not only to consume. Making a short video, designing a poster or writing a blog post turns you from a passive viewer into an active maker. Students who create content regularly say they feel more confident and learn faster.
One way to think about digital tools is this: they are a little like a bicycle. They can take you somewhere wonderful — but only if you hold the handlebars yourself.
26. What should students do before opening a device?
27. Why should devices be kept out of the bedroom at night?
28. 根据短文内容,完成下面的用网四则梳理,每空不超过3个词。

参考范文
My Digital Life
Digital tools have become part of my daily life. I usually use my tablet to look up learning materials and review English words.
The biggest advantage is convenience. When I meet a new word, I can find its meaning in a few seconds. However, the screen also brings me trouble. Sometimes I open a game by accident and waste half an hour before I notice it.
So I have made two rules for myself. First, I always write down what I want to finish before I turn on the device. Second, I keep my tablet outside my bedroom at night.
