Good morning to you all-parents,students and my fellow teachers.Thank you for
coming along to say goodbye.I know we all have to retire sooner or later, but it does
feel like a sad occasion to me,because I have had so many happy years at this school.
It feels like just yesterday that I was leaving my previous job to join this school. My
last 25 years'working for this school have passed so quickly.Perhaps it is because I
have been in such a good school. From the 12-year-olds in the first year,to those who
are now 18 and ready to leave for university or ajob,I have enjoyed working with
you all.I can honestly say that getting this job was like winning a prize.I have met
some amazing,wise people-star students,great friends.But perhaps most
important of all,it was here that I met the man I would later marry, and who will soon
be joining me in retirement.福州第十八中学2026-2027学年第一学期阶段性练习

hammering (square pegs into round holes for a long time. Now we should put down the

Skill of copying and moving images onto paper is an art form shining in history,Zhao Xu
reports.Rubbing, the tracing (of characters onto a piece of paper, reached its golden age
during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
To do this,a thin piece of paper was placed over the surface of the stone tablet (carved
with characters. Then water,or later, ink, was applied smoothly to the back of the paper with just the
right amount of pressure,to soften the paper and allow for a total moving of the details onto it.The
paper was left to dry and then be lifted off the stone surface, carrying with it a copy of the original
(原作)
Repeated hundreds of thousands of times during the Song era, this hands-on skill enabled
educated members of Song society to have a chance to learn from master calligraphic works either
from their own times or from earlier dynasties.Oftentimes, the original calligraphy,or even its stone
version, became lost over time, thus making the rubbings the only surviving copy of the masterworks
that had once existed. In that sense, the Song rubbings, and those behind them;have helped to
preserve a cultural relic much valued then and now.
Now,art lovers have the chance to visit it at an exhibition held at Beijing's Palace Museum
themed the Song rubbings.Of the 40 pieces on show,20 are drawn from the collection of the Palace

donated by J.S.Lee.

A.There were five steps to make a rubbing.
