This book offers a unique window into the behavior and life of red-feathered birds, with more than 120 show-stopping shots displaying their beauty. teNeues, £35. Around the World in 80 Birds Inspiring secrets, national pride or scientific discoveries, every bird has a story to tell, from the weaver bird building multi-nest “apartment blocks” in Namibia to the bar-headed goose taking on a twice-yearly trans-Himalayan journey at an extreme altitude. A World on the Wing Pulitzer-shortlisted Weidensaul, who’s at the forefront of research into bird migration, here tracks some of nature’s most remarkable journeys. He sails through the stormy Bering Sea, encounters trappers in the Mediterranean and visits former headhunters in northeast India, where a bird migration crisis has become a conservation success story. Pan Macmillan, £9.99. Galapagos Crusoes: A Year Alone with the Birds Explore this updated version of the 1968 title, Galapagos: Islands of Birds, by late bird expert Bryan Nelson, with previously unpublished material from his wife, June. The couple spent a year living on two Galapagos islands, studying birds, including the Galapagos albatross (信天翁). This is their clever and amusing description. Bradt Guides, £11.99. 1. By whom is the second costliest book illustrated? A. Claudio Contreras Koob. B. Mike Unwin. C. Ryuto Miyake. D. Weidensaul. 2. Which book best suits those concerned about the survival of migratory birds? A. Flamingo. B. Around the World in 80 Birds. C. A World on the Wing. D. Galapagos: Islands of Birds. 3. What feature may Galapagos Crusoes: A Year Alone with the Birds have? A. Its humorous expression. B. Its romantic style. C. Its vivid imagination. D. Its moving plot. B My phone buzzed with a video titled “WARNING: 5 Foods That Are Actually Plastic.” My mother doesn’t offer advice; she issues warnings. I suspect her phone has declared war on me. Every time she scrolls, the feed whispers to her that my favorite snack is a “poison”. I never challenge her claims, since she trusts a forwarded article more than my college degree. One day, she was telling me about a fitness contest at her gym, and I started lecturing about body fat percentages. While I was spreading all this wisdom, I was glued to the sofa, extending one leg like a crane to grab the remote with my big toe to avoid sitting up. She was watching me with a blank expression, “If you worked out as hard as you avoided standing up, you would be in great shape now.” To my face, she’s a critic, but I caught her describing me as a “highly intellectual, talented person” on a call with my aunt. From the next room, I wondered, “Wait, who is she talking about? Am I that person?” She is the only one allowed to roast her children. It’s a “membership-only” club. Even when she praises me, it’s her way of saying, “I raised this, so of course it’s excellent,” although she just told me five minutes ago that my room looks like a disaster zone. Despite her warnings, she’s always the first I run to when I need help. Every festival or family event becomes her next design assignment. I send her screenshots of high-fashion looks, like a creative director with impossible demands. She looks at the picture, gives her signature nervous laugh and says, “I’m not a certified fashion designer.” But then she spends hours on the floor with chalk and a measuring tape. She eventually creates her own edition, and somehow, her version turns out better than the original. And maybe that’s just another way mothers say they love you. 4. Why does the author avoid challenging her mother’s claims? A. It will hurt her mother’s feelings. B. She respects her mother’s authority. C. It is useless to argue with her mother. D. She believes in warnings from her mother. 5. How does the mother sound in paragraph 3? A. Deeply annoyed. B. Playfully mean. C. Genuinely proud. D. Bitterly jealous. 6. What does the “membership-only club” indicate? A. Only the mother can criticize the author. B. Family members get automatic membership. C. The mother only praises the author in private. D. Club members are encouraged to judge the author. 7. What can be inferred about the mother from paragraph 6? A. She enjoys assigning festival tasks. B. She values professional certification. C. She takes pride in raising a designer. D. She expresses love through practical acts. C When you were little, did you fight with your brother or sister about who would get the last gummy bear? Or who got to sit in the front of the ride? Behind these cases lies a hidden mindset — zero-sum thinking, a term that comes from math. In a zero-sum game, the total of gains and losses among the players always adds up to zero. Oskar Morgenstern first formally described this concept in the 1944 book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. Since then it has been widely used in economic theories and game theory. Drawing on ideas of evolutionary psychology, some have argued that zero-sum thinking arose as a cognitive (认知的) adaptation within early-human ancestors who were forced to compete over limited resources. As such, the tendency to subjectively view resource distribution as zero-sum might have been the primary strategy in our evolutionary past, giving individuals with higher zero-sum beliefs a relative advantage over others. Thus, in modern environments, zero-sum beliefs are adopted under similar conditions of threat and resource-shortage and can be overcome only with thoughtful reflection. Zero-sum beliefs have important intrapersonal (内在的) and interpersonal consequences. At the intrapersonal level, greater approval of zero-sum beliefs is related to more negative (and less positive) effects, more desires and lower life satisfaction. Zero-sum beliefs can also be interpersonally detrimental, such as when people who believe that their opponents gain at their cost fail to see opportunities for mutual benefit. More broadly, people who adopt zero-sum beliefs often feel lonelier. Thus, zero-sum beliefs may affect both the quality and the quantity of close personal relationships. To fight these effects, we can remember to remain mindful that there are numerous opportunities for non-zero-sum interactions with others, such as finding opportunities to exchange spare items or favors with others. Doing so provides the necessary ingredients for trust and mutual benefit to form, which are both necessary for any business or economy to perform at its best, in good times and in bad. 8. Which is the core of zero-sum mindset? A. Every coin has two sides. B. The other’s gain is your loss. C. Many hands make light work. D. United we stand, divided we fall. 9. What does paragraph 2 try to stress concerning zero-sum thinking? A. It is unique to humans. B. It tends to be short-lived. C. It helped ancestors survive. D. It is hardwired into humans. 10. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Distinct. B. Complex. C. Harmful. D. Crucial. 11. Which of the following does the author probably agree with? A. Trust is a two-way street. B. A true win-win is achievable. C. Opportunity knocks but once. D. Economy undergoes thick and thin. D Experts are calling for a global effort to identify “positive tipping points” to accelerate the green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper. A tipping point is a threshold (临界点) where a small change can cause a significant, often irreversible (不可逆转的), transformation. Positive tipping points in human societies and economies can bring about rapid reductions in emissions and other environmental harm, even as climate breakdown becomes increasingly damaging and dangerous. Some positive tipping points are already happening — with solar power and electric vehicles rapidly replacing fossil-fuelled alternatives — but many more are needed to ensure a sustainable future. “The global economy is decarbonising (脱去……的碳) at least five times too slowly to meet the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to well below 2℃,” said Professor Tim Lenton, from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter. “The challenge now is to identify potential positive tipping points, and the actions that can bring them forward — while avoiding wishful thinking about their existence, or oversimplification of their nature, drivers and impacts.” The paper sets out a method for identifying positive tipping points, assessing their proximity, identifying the factors that can influence them, and the actions that can lead to them. This includes looking for evidence that a system, or a similar system, has “tipped” in the past. Another factor is whether there is potential for “self-pushing uptake” of zero-or low-carbon behaviors. For example, as more people buy electric cars, the performance, price and infrastructure improve — making it easier for others to follow, and therefore accelerating the transition. “We know positive tipping can happen in sectors such as power and road transport,” said Dr Steve Smith, also from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter. “In other sectors, there is little sign of approaching tipping points and in a few, such as nuclear power and concrete production, we should not expect there to be tipping points at all.” 12. How does the author present the topic in the first paragraph? A. By raising a question. B. By defining a key concept. C. By listing specific data. D. By telling a personal story. 13. What is the current situation of positive tipping points? A. They remain purely theoretical at present. B. They are too slow to affect global warming. C. They have occurred in some areas already. D. They are happening in all economic sectors. 14. What is Dr Steve’s attitude to the tipping points of nuclear power? A. Negative. B. Cautious. C. Optimistic. D. Indifferent. 15. Which can be the best title for the text? A. The Role of Electric Vehicles in Climate Action B. The Way to Decarbonise the Global Economy Rapidly C. Challenges of Reaching Environmental Tipping Points D. I want specific details. Begin!” I sat with my pencil over my paper. For a moment, I hesitated. I knew I didn’t really have someone like that. Still, I lowered my head and began to write: My best friend is Hayley. She plays the cello (大提琴), like I do, and we go to orchestra every Saturday. She makes people laugh, and whenever I feel nervous, she tells me, “You’ve got this.” We’ve been best friends since fourth grade. I knew Hayley wasn’t real, but it was easier than explaining why I didn’t have a best friend. In fact, there was a girl in my orchestra class, Emily, who usually practiced the cello in the music room. Once, she helped me adjust my bow hold after a rehearsal (排练) and gave me an encouraging smile. “You’ve got this,” she said softly. I had also seen her patiently help another student work through a difficult passage, never showing the slightest impatience. We didn’t talk much because I was too shy to start a conversation, but I couldn’t forget her kindness. Without realizing it, I had borrowed pieces of her to create Hayley. At school, I didn’t have real friends. My classmates were polite and kind, but I was just too hesitant and shy to be the first to reach out. When I needed someone, I didn’t know who to turn to. When loneliness came over, I would imagine someone like Emily beside me, her gentle voice offering encouragement. She was the friend I wished I could have. The next day, Ms. Garcia returned my essay with a bright red “A”. “Hayley sounds wonderful! I’ve signed you and her up to perform a cello duo (二重奏) at next Friday’s Cultural Festival.” My heart skipped a beat. The lie I had built for protection suddenly turned into a trap. I was totally at a loss. Anxious, I decided to turn to Ms. Garcia. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, I went to the music room to find Emily. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 莆田一中2026—2027学年度上学期高二10月月考试卷 高二英语 选择性必修一Unit 1-Unit 2 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“I never challenge her claims, since she trusts a forwarded article more than my college degree. 根据第三段中作者的情况“While I was spreading all this wisdom, I was glued to the sofa, extending one leg like a crane to grab the remote with my big toe to avoid sitting up. 以及作者妈妈的评论“If you worked out as hard as you avoided standing up, you would be in great shape now. 根据第五段中“membership-only club”前面的“She is the only one allowed to roast her children. 根据第六段中的“Every festival or family event becomes her next design assignment. I send her screenshots of high-fashion looks, like a creative director with impossible demands. 、妈妈的回复“I’m not a certified fashion designer. 以及“But then she spends hours on the floor with chalk and a measuring tape. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“When you were little, did you fight with your brother or sister about who would get the last gummy bear? Or who got to sit in the front of the ride? Behind these cases lies a hidden mindset — zero-sum thinking, a term that comes from math. In a zero-sum game, the total of gains and losses among the players always adds up to zero.(这些小事背后藏着一种隐性思维模式——零和思维,这是一个源自数学领域的术语。 根据第二段中“Drawing on ideas of evolutionary psychology, some have argued that zero-sum thinking arose as a cognitive (认知的) adaptation within early-human ancestors who were forced to compete over limited resources.(依据进化心理学观点,有人提出零和思维是远古人类祖先为争夺有限资源而形成的一种认知适应。)” 根据第三段中“Zero-sum beliefs can also be interpersonally detrimental, such as when people who believe that their opponents gain at their cost fail to see opportunities for mutual benefit.(零和观念在人际交往方面同样是detrimental。 根据第四段中“To fight these effects, we can remember to remain mindful that there are numerous opportunities for non-zero-sum interactions with others, such as finding opportunities to exchange spare items or favors with others.(为对抗这些影响,我们要记住存在大量非零和互动的机会,比如互相交换闲置物品或互帮互助。)” D Experts are calling for a global effort to identify “positive tipping points” to accelerate the green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper. Identifying Positive Tipping Points for Green Transition 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段中的“A tipping point is a threshold (临界点) where a small change can cause a significant, often irreversible (不可逆转的), transformation.(临界点是一个阈值,微小变化可引发重大且往往不可逆转的转变。)” 根据第二段中的“Some positive tipping points are already happening — with solar power and electric vehicles rapidly replacing fossil‑fuelled alternatives — but many more are needed to ensure a sustainable future.(一些积极的临界点正在发生 —— 太阳能与电动汽车正在迅速取代化石燃料驱动的同类产品 —— 但还需要更多此类临界点,才能保障一个可持续的未来。)” 根据第六段中的“In other sectors, there is little sign of approaching tipping points and in a few, such as nuclear power and concrete production, we should not expect there to be tipping points at all.(在其他行业,几乎没有接近临界点的迹象,而在少数领域,例如核能和混凝土生产,我们压根不应该指望会存在临界点。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“Experts are calling for a global effort to identify “positive tipping points” to accelerate the green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper.(专家呼吁全球共同努力识别“正向临界点”以加速绿色转型,并在一篇新学术论文中设计出识别该临界点的方法。)” One person’s trash is another’s treasure. The world stretches wide yet draws near, connected together by the shared ____45____ (kind). 固定搭配weigh out sth. for sb. 固定搭配not...but... Dear Editor, _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sincerely, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Editor, I want to express my concern regarding a trend at our school: students creating memes of teachers and sharing them on social media. While some may view this as harmless and creative, I think it can also be disrespectful, harming teachers’ reputations and undermining their authority. Furthermore, using their images without consent raises privacy issues and mocking teachers’ appearances or personal lives can be hurtful. Humor should not come at the expense of respect. I suggest our school organize digital etiquette workshops to help students understand the difference between playful humor and harmful mockery. Additionally, creating guidelines for respectful meme creation could foster a more positive environment. After all, respect makes humor meaningful. Let’s think twice before clicking “share”. 词汇积累 表达:express→convey 此外:furthermore→moreover 另外:additionally→in addition 有意义的:meaningful→significative 2. I want to express my concern regarding a trend at our school: students creating memes of teachers and sharing them on social media. I want to express my concern, which regards a trend at our school where students are creating memes of teachers and sharing them on social media. 【点睛】[高分句型1] While some may view this as harmless and creative, I think it can also be disrespectful, harming teachers’ reputations and undermining their authority. (运用了while引导的让步状语从句,省略that引导的宾语从句,和现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] I suggest our school organize digital etiquette workshops to help students understand the difference between playful humor and harmful mockery. “All right, class, settle down!” my teacher, Ms. Garcia, announced. “Today, you are going to write about your best friend in real life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Anxious, I decided to turn to Ms. Garcia. I walked to her office with heavy steps, my hands sweating. “Ms. Garcia, I have to tell you the truth,” I whispered, my voice trembling. I explained that Hayley wasn’t real — I made her up because I was too shy to admit I had no best friend. To my surprise, Ms. Garcia didn’t blame me. She patted my shoulder gently and said, “It’s brave of you to tell the truth. Why not ask Emily to be your partner? She’s kind and plays the cello well.” Her words gave me the courage I needed. The next day, I went to the music room to find Emily. She was practicing the cello, her fingers moving smoothly over the strings. Taking a deep breath, I walked over. “Emily, I…I was wondering if you’d like to play a cello duo with me at the Cultural Festival,” I said, avoiding her eyes. She stopped playing and smiled warmly. “I’d love to!” she replied. As we practiced together, we talked more — about music, our hobbies, and our fears. Slowly, I realized that the friend I had imagined was right in front of me, and I finally had a real best friend. 词汇激活 行为类 ①低语:whisper/murmur ②解释:explain/account for ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①温柔地:gently/tenderly ②令某人惊讶的是:to one’s surprise/to one’s amazement 【点睛】[高分句型1]As we practiced together, we talked more — about music, our hobbies, and our fears.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2]Slowly, I realized that the friend I had imagined was right in front of me, and I finally had a real best friend.(运用了that引导的宾语从句,省略了关系代词that引导的限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
