As audiobooks(有声书) have become more and more popular, some people may want to know: Are they as good as traditional physical books? Let's compare the two to see which of them is more suitable for you.
Physical books are real books. You can hold one in your hands and truly feel that you are reading a book. There is no need for you to worry about running out of battery(电池). When there is no power, there is no way for you to listen to an audiobook, but you can always enjoy a physical book.
However, to store physical books, you often need a lot of space. Audio books, on the contrary(正相反), can all be stored inside a small electric device(设备). They are also more convenient than physical books. You can get them wherever you are. There is no need for you to use your eyes while you are enjoying an audiobook, so you will be able to“read” while you are driving, cooking or jogging!
Audio books and physical books both have their advantages and disadvantages. You can choose either of them according to your needs. After a busy workday, for example, you probably want something that can help you to relax. Perhaps an audiobook is more suitable for you. When you have time and want to do some serious reading, a physical book may be better.

The United Nations decided that 2025 is the year of glacier(冰川) protection. It set 21 March 2025 as the first World Day for Glaciers. This event encouraged people to save glaciers.
What are glaciers?
You can imagine glaciers as slowly moving ice and snow on land. Over time, the snow adds up and turns into glacier ice. Glaciers have shaped mountains over the earth's history. They are still moving and changing land in many places today.
Why are glaciers important?
Glaciers are not just needed for the land. When glaciers melt(融化), the nutrients(养料)from the water are good for life in rivers and oceans. In some places, glaciers provide water for people and animals. There are about 200,000 glaciers in the world, covering 10 per cent of the land. They also hold 70 per cent of the earth's fresh water. In areas like the Himalayas, many people need glacier water to live. This water fills big rivers, such as the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra.
Why are glaciers disappearing?
Climate change is leading to serious problems for glaciers. Many glaciers have disappeared. The atmosphere(大气层) around the earth is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping most heat from getting out. This makes the earth warm enough for life. But when we burn wood and coal, we produce a gas called carbon dioxide(二氧化碳). Too much of this gas pollutes the atmosphere and causes it to keep in too much heat. As the earth's temperature is increasing, glaciers melt faster.
The influence of glaciers disappearing.
If glaciers disappear, there will be less water for us to drink and farm, while floods may happen more often. It would also be bad for animals and plants. Mountains with glaciers are home to special ecosystems and a large number of animals. As temperatures rise and glaciers melt, they are not fit for these living things.
( )8. Why does the author mention the underlined part in Paragraph 3?
A. To show that these rivers are popular for tourism.
B. To prove that the influence of glaciers disappearing is huge.
C. To give examples of rivers that depend on glacier water for survival.
D. To compare the differences of these rivers with other rivers in the world.
( )9. 创新考法—图片理解 How does the atmosphere deal with sunlight according to the passage?
( )10. What will happen if glaciers disappear?
A. There will be more drinking water.
B. Many plants and animals will be in trouble.
C. There will be fewer floods than before.
D. The land around glaciers will be better for farming.
( )11. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To describe the beauty of glaciers.
B. To call for actions to protect glaciers.
C. To tell some fun facts about glaciers.
D. To show the importance of glacier movement.

“It is especially beautiful. No matter who you are or what your age is, seeing something so fantastic is truly attractive,” said Jin Huilin, who was attracted by the rich patterns(花纹)when he saw Yuhua stones for the first time.

Watching patterns of stones in the water is not the only way to appreciate stones. Others choose to put the stones on the desk, inviting guests to appreciate the stones from different positions,” said Jin. ④

Playgrounds offer kids fresh air, friends, and exercise. However, each year, more than200,000 kids go to hospital because they are hurt in one way or another when playing in the playground. So what can we do to improve the situation?
We should make sure the playground is safe for the children. It should be soft and thick enough, so when the children fall, they won't hurt too much. Things like water, rocks or broken glass might cause danger to kids. Cleaners should check the playground from time to time and clear away these dangerous things. In fact, children themselves also need to help keep the playground clean and safe. That means each time after playing they should pick up the rubbish they’ ve produced. If someone finds there is something wrong with the equipment(设施), he or she should report to the keeper of the playground, so people will come to fix it.
Teaching kids how to play safely is also very important. If they know the rules of the playground, they won't get hurt easily. For example, they should never push when others are on seesaws or swings. If someone is going to jump off some equipment, he or she should first look down to make sure no other kids are in the way. Of course, wearing right clothes may also help to keep safe. Clothes with strings(绳) can get caught on equipment which may hurt the kid badly.
In short, our kids can both enjoy themselves and be safe if we work together to improve the situation.
