Many people believe that having more money is the answer to all their problems. But in the story A Dog Called Money, the talking dog Money has a different opinion. He tells Kira that “ten times more money means ten times more problems” because when people get more money, they will spend more. This idea might sound strange at first, but think about it carefully. It makes sense in some way.
When people receive a salary (薪水) increase, they often upgrade (升级) their lifestyle—a bigger flat, a newer car, more expensive clothes. These upgrades come with higher costs. The more you earn, the more you spend. This is called “lifestyle inflation (生活方式膨胀)”. Many people fall into this situation without realizing it.
However, some people manage to break this cycle. They choose to save and invest the extra money instead of spending it. They understand that money itself is not the goal—it is a tool. The key is not how much you make, but how much you keep and how wisely you use it.
Kira’s story shows that even a young girl can learn this lesson. By using dream tins and managing her spending, she starts to take control of her money instead of letting money control her. In the end, she discovers that helping others with money brings a different kind of richness—one that has nothing to do with the amount in her pocket.
1. What does the underlined phrase “lifestyle inflation” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Prices of daily goods keep rising every year.
B. People spend more when they earn more money.
C. Living in big cities is more expensive than in small towns.
2. What does the writer think of money according to the passage?
A. Money is the most important thing in life.
B. Money is a tool, not the final goal.
C. Having money means having fewer problems.
3. What lesson does Kira learn at the end of her story?
A. Saving money is the only thing that matters.
B. It is impossible for a young girl to save money.
C. Helping others with money can bring happiness.

Why Making a Money Plan Is Important
Many young people receive lucky money during the Spring Festival. However, not everyone knows how to use it well. Making a money plan can help you get the most out of (充分利用) your lucky money.
A money plan helps you decide what to do with your money before you spend it. When you have a plan, you are less likely to waste money on things you don’t really need. You can save for important goals, such as buying a new phone or saving for university. You can also set aside (留下) some money to help others.
Making a plan also helps you develop good money habits. When you plan your spending and saving, you learn to be more responsible and disciplined. These skills will be useful throughout your life.
In addition, a plan can give you a sense of control. Instead of wondering where your money went, you know exactly how much you have and where it is going. This can reduce stress and help you feel more confident about your financial future.
In short, making a money plan is a simple but powerful way to make the most of your lucky money. Start planning today!
12. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Lucky money is always a good thing.

A. You will waste more money.
B. You will be less likely to waste money.
C. You will have less money.
14. What does the writer suggest at the end of the passage?
A. Stop receiving lucky money. B. Give all your lucky money away. C. Start making a money plan today.

In 2026, a group of teenagers in Shanghai started a “Money Diary” project. They wanted to understand their spending habits. For one month, they wrote down every single thing they spent money on.
The results were surprising. Many teenagers didn’t realize how much they spent on small things. One student, 14-year-old Li Ming, found that he spent over 200 yuan on bubble tea in just one month! “I never thought about it before,” he said. “I just bought one every day after school. ”
Another student, Wang Fang, found that she spent most of her money on snacks and online games. “I always thought I was good with money,” she said. “But my diary showed me I was wrong. ”
After the project, the teenagers made changes. Li Ming decided to limit his bubble tea to once a week. Wang Fang set a monthly budget for snacks and games and started putting 50 yuan into her savings account every week.
“We learned that small things add up,” said the project organizer. “If you spend 10 yuan a day on snacks, that’s 3,650 yuan a year. That’s enough for a nice trip!”
The teenagers shared their experiences online. Many other young people were inspired and started their own money diaries. “It’s not about stopping spending,” Li Ming said. “It’s about spending wisely on what really matters. ”
