When I feel like something in my life is out of control, I can always depend on the healing qualities of organization to make me feel like I’m regaining power. And this is why I love my wall calendar.
In my mid-20s, a friend bought me a calendar to make fun of my near-compulsive need for everything to be organized. I hung it up in the kitchen. I had no idea then that this calendar would change my life. I ended up detailing my entire schedule on that calendar. Every appointment, every out-of-town visitor, every meeting — my whole life was on there. I felt in control; the overwhelming fear of a busy schedule seemed much more manageable with everything written down. So, the following year, I bought myself another calendar.
However, when 2025 came, I didn’t buy another calendar. I was already using my phone calendar a lot, and I also felt awkward about having my entire life on the wall for my roommates and guests to see. But after a while, I missed the calming habit of writing my entire month out and being able to see how big my schedule was at a glance. I missed my calendar. I felt adrift (茫然的).
There’s something so soothing, so steadying, about a wall calendar. It never moves; it’s always there, organized, and waiting to prove to me that my schedule isn’t that overwhelming. Everything is broken up into neatly organized boxes, making everything feel under control. That’s why I decided to finally get a calendar again earlier this month. I chose a narrow hanging calendar with big boxes and a calming watercolor design. I wrote every event in the calendar. Then, I hung it up on the wall.
Stepping back, looking at the final product of my newly reorganized life, I felt at peace. I could once again merely glance at my wall and know I had a mid-day appointment on Tuesday, a work thing Wednesday night, and finally a meeting with my friend’s dog on Thursday evening. It was the same schedule, but it all felt different.
4. Why didn’t the author buy a calendar when 2025 came?
A. She feared her friend would make fun of her.
B. She thought the calendar made her more stressful.
C. She found writing out her month time-consuming.
D. She felt uncomfortable with others seeing her schedule.
5. Why did the author feel the same schedule “different” in the last paragraph?
A. She had set aside more free time between events.
B. The watercolor design made the tasks seem easier.
C. Seeing the entire month laid out made her feel in control.
D. Her roommates helped her rearrange the appointments.
6. What is the author’s attitude toward her wall calendar?
A. Enthusiastic. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Doubtful.
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. How to efficiently manage a busy schedule.
B. How the author’s calendar habits changed.
C. The advantages of digital calendars over paper ones.
D. The author’s emotional attachment to the wall calendar.
【答案】4. D 5. C 6. A 7. D

Researchers in Ireland recently reported that coffee may influence mood through the gut (肠道)-brain link, which is the close connection between digestion and the brain. In a recent study, participants who drank either regular or decaffeinated(decaf, 脱咖啡因的) coffee said they felt less stressed and experienced a better mood. These results suggest that coffee’s mental effects may not result from caffeine alone.
The researchers followed the participants carefully, using questionnaires, diet tracking, and body samples. These checks helped the team examine both mood changes and gut bacteria. During the study, half the group drank caffeinated coffee, while the other half drank decaf.
Both groups felt less stressed and less depressed, and they demonstrated better self-control. The team also found higher levels of certain gut bacteria that help digestion and support the immune (免疫的) system. According to the researchers, this pattern strongly supports the idea that coffee may work partly through the gut-brain link, not only through the nervous system.
However, the two drinks did not have exactly the same effects; each type offered unique benefits. Decaf coffee was linked to improvements in learning and memory. Meanwhile, caffeinated coffee was associated with lower anxiety, stronger attention, and noticeably less swelling (肿胀) in the body. Researchers now think that regular coffee drinkers may develop a weaker stress response over time. As a result, daily coffee could help some individuals stay calmer under pressure.
Still, the study does not mean that drinking more coffee is always better. The researchers point out that two or three cups a day may be a useful range for gaining gut and brain benefits, but too much can easily disturb sleep. Because each person reacts differently to coffee, the right amount can vary from individual to individual. Therefore, moderation (适度) is key, and it is important to pay attention to your own body to find what suits you best.
8. What can we know about the two types of coffee according to the text?
A. Caffeinated coffee lowers stress and weakens attention.
B. Caffeinated coffee harms digestion and the body’s defenses.
C. Decaf coffee eases anxiety and improves focus.
D. Decaf coffee helps people learn and remember better.
9. What can we learn from the study?
A. More caffeine may greatly improve mood.
B. Coffee may help ease stress for regular drinkers.
C. Only the caffeinated group showed better self-control.
D. Coffee may prevent anxiety in most drinkers.
10. What do the researchers suggest?
A. Increasing coffee intake to improve focus.
B. Avoiding coffee altogether if you have trouble sleeping.
C. Drinking coffee in proper amounts each day.
D. Drinking different kinds of coffee at different times.
11. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To explain how coffee may affect mood.
B. To compare coffee with other drinks.
C. To describe how researchers carried out a study.
D. To argue that decaf coffee is healthier than regular coffee.
【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. A
【解析】
【导语】文章讲述了爱尔兰研究发现咖啡可通过肠脑轴影响情绪,适量饮用更有益。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Decaf coffee was linked to improvements in learning and memory.(脱咖啡因咖啡与学习和记忆的改善有关。)”可知,脱咖啡因咖啡能帮助人们更好地学习和记忆。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Researchers now think that regular coffee drinkers may develop a weaker stress response over time. As a result, daily coffee could help some individuals stay calmer under pressure.(研究人员现在认为,经常喝咖啡的人随着时间的推移可能会产生较弱的压力反应。因此,每天喝咖啡可以帮助一些人在压力下保持冷静。)”可知,咖啡可能有助于缓解经常饮用者的压力。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Therefore, moderation (适度) is key, and it is important to pay attention to your own body to find what suits you best.(因此,适度是关键,重要的是要注意自己的身体,找到最适合自己的量。)”
D
A removable wireless forehead e-tattoo (电子文身) that reads brainwaves to measure mental strain (压力) without heavy head equipment has been developed, according to a study published May 29 in Device. It may help track the mental pressure on workers like air traffic controllers and truck drivers, whose lapses in focus, such as missing a single warning, can have serious consequences.
The e-tattoo offers an objective option by analyzing electrical activity from the brain and eye movement. Unlike heavy wired EEG caps covered with gel (凝胶), the wireless e-tattoo features a lightweight battery pack and paper-thin, sticker-like sensors fitting closely to the skin for clear signals.
“Those caps have more sensors for different brain regions but never get a perfect signal because head shapes vary,” says Nanshu Lu, the study’s author, from UT Austin. “We measure participants’ facial features to produce personalized e-tattoos, ensuring the sensors are always in the right location and receiving signals.”
The researchers tested the e-tattoo on six participants performing a memory challenge of increasing difficulty. As mental pressure rose, the theta and delta brainwaves increased, signaling greater cognitive demand, while alpha and beta activity decreased, indicating mental tiredness. A computer model trained on e-tattoo signals successfully told apart different levels of mental pressure, showing potential to predict mental tiredness.
Cost is another advantage. Traditional EEG equipment can cost more than $15,000, while the e-tattoo’s chips and battery pack cost $200, and single-use sensors are about $20 each. “Being low cost makes the device accessible,” says author Luis Sentis from UT Austin. “I hope to turn the e-tattoo into a home wearable product.”
Currently limited to hairless skin, the e-tattoo is being combined with ink-based sensors for hairy areas to enable full head coverage and more complete brain monitoring. “We’ve long monitored workers’ physical health, tracking injuries and muscle strain,” says Sentis. “Now we can monitor mental strain. This could fundamentally change how organizations ensure their workforce well-being.”
12. What does the underlined word “lapses” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Improvements. B. Habits. C. Differences. D. Losses.
13. What’s the advantage of the e-tattoo compared with traditional EEG caps?
A. It collects brain signals more reliably. B. It covers more regions of the brain.
C. It operates without a power source. D. It can be applied to hairy skin.
14. What can be inferred about the e-tattoo from Luis Sentis’s words?
A. It may be able to sense people’s emotions.
B. It may be used at home by ordinary people.
C. It may treat mental problems.
D. It may help employers check workers’ performance.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An E-Tattoo to Improve Workers’ Physical Health
B. A New Step Toward Low-Cost Brainwave Devices
C. An E-Tattoo for Measuring Mental Strain
D. A Personalized Wearable Device for Enhancing Memory
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C

How to Respond to an Emotional Text
Responding to an emotional text from someone you care about is hard without tone of voice or a comforting presence. Yet a few thoughtful strategies can make a real difference.
Listen without judgment.
Let them know you’re a safe person to talk to. Show them you appreciate their trust and encourage them to share more. Simple phrases like “Thank you for telling me this” or ____16____ can make them feel accepted.
____17____
Now is not the time to talk about your own problems. Even if you have a lot going on, you can always deal with that in another conversation. It’s fine to share if you can relate to what they’re going through. For instance, you can say “I felt really upset when my best friend misunderstood me too. I’m here whenever you need to talk.” to keep the attention on their needs.
Avoid clichés (陈词滥调)
Using a cliché might make the other person feel like you’re not taking their feelings seriously. ____18____ A personalized response, such as “I can see why that hurt you so deeply,” shows you are truly paying attention.
Offer advice only when asked.
Remember, many people just need to feel understood. Always ask before giving advice. For example, you could say, “It sounds like you’re unhappy at your job. Would you like some help figuring out the next step?” ____19____
Follow up with them later.
Follow up a day or two later with a quick message or phone call. ____20____ A simple message like “How are you feeling today?” shows your support doesn’t end after one chat. Sincere attention to their feelings, above all, is what truly comforts them.
A. Ask how you can help.
B. Would you like some advice?
C. Can you tell me more about that?
D. Keep the conversation centered on them.
E. This small action signals that your care is ongoing.
F. This respects their feelings while offering practical support.
G. Instead, give a thoughtful response that directly fits their situation.
【答案】16. C 17. D 18. G 19. F 20. E
【解析】
【导语】文章介绍回复他人情绪短信的方法:不带评判倾听、聚焦对方、不用套话、按需提建议、后续跟进,真诚关注最能安慰人。
【16题详解】
根据上文“Let them know you’re a safe person to talk to. Show them you appreciate their trust and encourage them to share more. Simple phrases like “Thank you for telling me this” or(让他们知道你是一个可以放心倾诉的人,向他们表明你珍惜这份信任,并鼓励他们多说一点,诸如“谢谢你愿意把这件事告诉我”或者……的简单表达能让他们感到被接纳)”可知,前文提到要鼓励对方多分享,C项“你能多告诉我一些关于那方面的信息吗?”符合引导对方倾诉的语境,和举例的“Thank you for telling me this.”呼应。
【17题详解】
根据后文“Now is not the time to talk about your own problems. Even if you have a lot going on, you can always deal with that in another conversation. It’s fine to share if you can relate to what they’re going through. For instance, you can say “I felt really upset when my best friend misunderstood me too. I’m here whenever you need to talk.” to keep the attention on their needs.(现在不是谈论你自身烦恼的时候。即便你自己也有一堆烦心事,你总可以换个时间再聊这些。如果你能共情对方的遭遇,适当分享自身经历是可以的。例如,你可以说:“我最好的朋友误会我的时候,我也特别难过。只要你想倾诉,我一直都在。” 以此把关注点放在他们的需求上)”可知,该段核心是说明不要把话题转到自己的问题上,要聚焦对方的需求,D项“让对话始终围绕他们展开”是该段的主题句,契合段落内容。
【18题详解】
根据上文“Using a cliché might make the other person feel like you’re not taking their feelings seriously.(使用陈词滥调可能会让对方觉得你没有认真对待他们的感受)”以及后文“A personalized response, such as “I can see why that hurt you so deeply,” shows you are truly paying attention.(个性化的回复,例如 “我能理解为什么这件事会深深伤害到你”,表明你真的在用心倾听)”可知,前文指出陈词滥调会让对方觉得你不重视他们的感受,后文提到要给出个性化的回应,G项“相反,应给出一个体贴的回应,直接符合他们的具体情况”起到承上启下的转折衔接作用。
【19题详解】
根据上文“Remember, many people just need to feel understood. Always ask before giving advice. For example, you could say, “It sounds like you’re unhappy at your job. Would you like some help figuring out the next step?”(记住,很多人只是想要被理解。

Dear Jim,
I’m so glad to know that you will come to China soon. I’d like to recommend dumplings, one of the most popular Chinese specialties.
Dumplings carry rich cultural meanings. They look like ancient gold ingots, standing for wealth and good wishes. Besides, they taste amazing with different fillings such as pork and vegetables.
You can try them in local family restaurants, where they serve freshly-made dumplings. Usually we eat dumplings with vinegar to reduce greasiness. Don’t eat too many at a time, or you may feel full quickly.
Looking forward to your arrival!
Yours,
Li Hua

47. 3阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last summer, I joined a one-week volunteer program at our town’s wildlife rescue center with a group of high school students from other schools. On the first day, everyone introduced themselves excitedly, but a quiet boy named Jasper only spoke his name in a soft voice before lowering his head. He always stayed near the cages for hurt birds, writing down feeding notes or cleaning the cages alone. I paid little attention to him at first, as I was busy chatting with outgoing volunteers who shared my bird-watching hobby.
On the third day, the sun was strong at noon after we fed the rescued birds. I reached for my favorite baseball cap in my backpack to block the sun. It was a light grey cap with a blue bird logo, a prize I won in a city bird protection event last year. It had come with me on over 10 forest trips — once I fell in the woods chasing a rare bird, and I even refused to wash the tiny mud stain on the cap. I searched every pocket of my bag twice, and even checked the grass I just sat on, but couldn’t find it, growing more and more anxious.
The next morning during break, I saw Jasper standing near the bird cages, wearing a cap that looked exactly like mine. I walked over to him, speaking angrily: “Why did you take my cap without asking?”
Jasper’s face turned bright red. He took off the cap and explained it was a gift from his grandpa, who passed away last year, and that there was the short form of his name “J. W” written by his grandpa inside. I leaned in to check and found the mark that my cap didn’t have. I searched my bag again, and finally found my cap under my thick bird-watching notebook, where the cap had been hidden all along. A wave of embarrassment washed over me.

【答案】范文
Looking at my own cap in my hand, I froze for a second, too nervous to say a word. I had wrongly accused Jasper of stealing my cap just now. My cheeks burned with shame. I took a deep breath and apologized sincerely to him. I told him I was so anxious about losing my precious cap that I jumped to a conclusion without careful checking. I felt terrible for misunderstanding him and asked if he could forgive my rude behavior.
Jasper shook his head softly when I finished saying sorry to him, a small smile spreading across his face. He said he totally understood my worry about the cap with special meaning. He told me he loved birds just like me and showed me his detailed notes about injured birds. Later we worked together to feed birds and talked about bird watching. This misunderstanding turned us into close friends. I learned never to judge others in a hurry. From then on, we spent every break sharing our stories about wild birds. It was this little accident that brought our friendship to life.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Looking at my own cap in my hand, I froze for a second, too nervous to say a word.

Jasper shook his head softly when I finished saying sorry to him, a small smile spreading across his face.
