Every time he took off his helmet (头盔) with a big smile, she became more fascinated. Soon after, she took the wheel herself. She started out in karts, racing at state level and then nationally, and got good results early on. She got into the 2023 Ferrari training camp and was invited to enter a top Italian racing school. She then won Best New Driver in November 2024, and moved up to the Spanish F4 (一种入门级赛车比赛). In February 2025, she became a driver of the F1Academy — races for women racers. Racing needs a strong mind, not just fast driving. Starting karting at 9 taught her how hard the sport is on the mind and how discouraging and exciting it can be all at once. Now, Jenny talks with a coach every week and acts out situations she’s likely to face, which helps her stay calm under pressure and keep focused in races. Since she travels a lot for racing, Jenny has to study online. And she misses her friends’ birthdays. Always being on the way means leaving behind her loved things like her home, her school and the people she grew up with. As a woman driver, Jenny has faced doubts, but she believes love and performance speak loudest. She hopes to encourage more girls to go for their dreams. She enjoys the speed and excitement of driving. Her biggest dream is to become the first woman F1 driver in her country. 9. When did Jenny become interested in motorsport? A. Well, according to a new study, cats have many different facial expressions, which show how they are feeling. The research was carried out by the scientists at the University of California in the US. They visited a local cat café over several months to record videos of 53 cats, collecting 194 minutes of videos. They found that the cats have 276 different expressions. “Each expression was a mixture of different facial movements, which included licking (舔) their noses, opening their mouths, or widening the pupils of their eyes,” said the scientists. They also found cats use 26 of these facial movements in total, which can be mixed to express how they are feeling. Dogs use 27 facial movements and humans use a total of 44. Out of the expressions they recorded, 45% were friendly and 37% were angry. A friendly cat moves its ears and whiskers forward and closes its eyes. “However, an angry cat often flattens (使变平) its ears to its head, makes its pupils smaller and licks its lips,” said the team. Although the researchers aren’t sure what the cats were trying to communicate with each other using their faces, they plan to study cats in other places to improve their understanding. They also hope that the research could help animal shelters (收容所) improve the way they look after the cats. Some pet owners even suggest the researchers develop an app for them to find out what their cats’ facial expressions really mean. 13. According to the numbers “53” “194” “276”, what can we learn? A. The study is very difficult. B. The study is very interesting. C. The study is very scientific. D. The study is very meaningful. 14. Which picture shows a cat’s angry expression? A. B. C. D. 15. What can we infer from the text? A. Scientists finish the study in a very short time. B. Cats use more facial movements than dogs. C. Cats use faces to communicate with each other. D. Scientists developed an app to show the meanings of cats’ facial expressions. 16. What’s the writer’s purpose in writing this passage? A. To call on people to love cats more. B. You’re not alone. “Study with Me” is a new learning method you can try. The basic idea behind it is that watching someone else study inspires us to do the same. “Study with Me” is a kind of live broadcast (直播) on the internet. It often shows real-time scenes of someone studying, either in silence or with soft music. It creates a sense of companionship (陪伴) and provides shared focus, making learning more enjoyable and effective. That’s why more and more students around the world are attracted to it. Why does watching someone else study make us want to study too? Scientists say it’s a human’s natural habit — we often do the same things as the people around us, called mimicry (模仿). We may follow their note-taking ways or use the same study tools. Also, we need social support: the people on the screen are like secret study partners, and when we see them working hard, we might feel that we are part of them. It can inspire us to pull through difficulties. “Study with Me” can be helpful, but keep these in mind: First, we should set clear study goals because it can help us stay focused on our own work. It is important not to depend on it too much because true inspiration should come from within. Lastly, we’d better stick to learning with trustworthy people who have well-organized study plans. In the digital age, learning methods are changing. “Study with Me” creates global connections and encourages students to enjoy learning through focus, fun and friendship. 41. What does “Study with Me” often show? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 42. C Jenny first got into motorsport (赛车运动) by watching her younger brother, Bill, drive his kart (卡丁赛车). A. Born to Coach D Have you ever looked at a cat’s face and wondered what it is thinking? A. 41.
