Nowadays, cultural fast food, such as short cultural videos and simplified book reviews, is popular among young people.
Some hold that it helps us touch different cultures quickly and conveniently. Besides, it lowers the barrier for ordinary people to get access to culture. However, others argue it has obvious drawbacks. It only provides shallow information. Worse still, people may get used to instant fun, lack deep thinking and ignore valuable classic works.
In my view, we can enjoy cultural fast food properly, but we should read original works to gain real wisdom.

The next morning, Mrs. Henderson woke to find a small package on her doorstep. Inside was a beautifully crafted wooden plate, marked with the words “Sorry for the trouble” and some fresh rosebuds. A note attached read: “Mrs. Henderson, I hope this makes up for yesterday. Aryan and I want to be good neighbors. — Mr. Patel.” Mrs. Henderson’s heart softened. She had been so focused on her roses that she had forgotten the bigger picture — community and understanding. That afternoon, she went next door with a plate of freshly baked cookies.
Mr. Patel opened the door, where stood Mrs. Henderson. Mrs. Henderson smiled. “I brought this as a peace offering. I apologize for yesterday. I shouldn’t have spoken like that.” Mr. Patel responded, “Thank you. I appreciate it.” They decided to find a way to share the garden without any misunderstandings. Mrs. Henderson would plant roses along the fence, while Mr. Patel could plant as he wished on his side. Mrs. Henderson realized fences were meant to separate, but gardens and neighbors were meant to bring people together. The roses were a bridge, not a barrier.

Text 10 阳台种菜的建议
M:Starting a vegetable garden on a balcony can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Here are some essential tips to help you get started. Firstly, consider the amount of sunlight your balcony receives. Most vegetables need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. If your balcony faces south, you’re in luck, as it can get plenty of sunlight. Next, it’s crucial to water the vegetables correctly. Vegetables need enough water, but over watering them can be harmful. Make sure that there are several holes at the bottom of your pots and water the plants when the top inch of soil is dry.
Fertilizing is another important aspect of balcony gardening. Using a balanced fertilizer is recommended. Typically, you should fertilize the soil every couple of weeks.
Pest control is a common concern for balcony gardeners. Natural solutions can effectively manage pests--planting companion herbs can help drive away unwanted insects.
For beginners, it’s best to start with easy-to-grow vegetables like cherry tomatoes, lettuce or herbs. Avoid challenging crops like sweet corn and eggplant.
By following the above tips, you can create a thriving vegetable garden on your balcony.

When I was a 21-year-old law student in Canberra, I was in desperate need of casual work. I came across an ad for a gopher (跑腿工) on one of the boards outside the library. Thinking of my bank balance, I didn’t have much choice. I took down the number of the law firm.
The job was simple: deliver letters, notices of assessment and other important legal documents. The locations, I came to realize, were varied and inconvenient. Some days, I unsteadily balanced packages on the handlebars on my way to the courts. Others, I’d find myself pushing through foot traffic to get to the bank before they closed at their unreasonably early hour.
About a week into my new job, I noticed a new note on the pile of letters and documents. It was a file addressed to “G. O. D.”
“God? What’s that?” I asked the receptionist.
“No, G. O. D. Gopher. On. Duty.”
On my bike, heroically carrying piles of papers or packages, I did feel—briefly—like the G. O. D. of my email signature. If I didn’t deliver these letters, then very serious legal cases could not continue. Helpless clients were relying on me.
Or that’s what I kept telling myself. In truth, when you’re a gopher, people don’t tend to take you seriously. Once the delivery is done, lawyers forget your name. Worse still, they call you by your extended title: “Tuesday Gopher.”
After graduating, I got a job in a far more stable and financially rewarding industry: media. Still, that year when I was G. O. D. taught me more than the five years with my head buried in books about law. It taught me to appreciate every gopher, every delivery driver I’ve met since. Delivery isn’t easy. Even in 2026, physical objects and paper and the people who deliver them still matter. One person’s gopher is the world’s G. O. D.—someone who we all rely on.
24. Why did the author decide to take the job?
A. To gain work experience. B. To ease financial difficulties.
C. To practice law in Canberra. D. To meet a school requirement.
25. What can we learn about the author’s experience as a gopher?
A. She was highly respected. B. She was quickly promoted.
C. She was dismissed as unimportant. D. She was remembered by her name.
26. Which of the following best describes the author?
A. Committed. B. Innovative. C. Modest. D. Impractical.
27. What is the main message of the text?
A. A job’s worth lies in its title. B. Career choices determine life satisfaction.
C. No job is too humble to make a difference. D. Professional status defines a person’s value.

Start reading recent internet conversations about AI, and you’ll find a topic that surfaces with increasing frequency: ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical advice.
“Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,” begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New York. After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three-day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers improved security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily management of health as a complement (补充) to advice from medical professionals. Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage symptoms and treatment for the cancer he’s been diagnosed with. He frequently shows AI test results and asks it to translate them into comprehensible English. Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action-planning session.”
Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already.
28. What does Bethany Crystal’s case in paragraph 2 indicate?
A. The popularity of ChatGPT. B. The significance of regular checkups.
C. The lack of medical knowledge. D. The value of AI-aided medical diagnosis.
29. What do we know about ChatGPT Health?
A. Its users’ privacy is better protected. B. It provides better health care than doctors.
C. It has 100 million registered users. D. It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend.
30. What impact has AI brought to Rosen?
A. It improves the cure rate for his disease.
B. It reduces his trust in medical personnel.
C. It offers him real-time translation at the doctor’s.
D. It changes the way he communicates with his doctor.
31. What does the underlined word “hazards” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders.

In Hawaii, researchers have come up with an innovative method for putting the islands’ plastic pollution to work, covering roads with asphalt (沥青) mixed with plastic waste and old fishing nets. The project is designed to solve the islands’ unique exposure to old fishing equipment, tourist waste, and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
One key question is whether wear and tear on that pavement might release microplastics into the environment. Initial results show that the asphalt is largely intact. “We’re extremely concerned about this issue,” says chemist Jennifer Lynch, since the promising short-term performance of the asphalt does not guarantee absolute safety in the long run. She heads the Centre for Marine Debris Research at Hawaii Pacific University.
The centre runs the Nets-to-Roads programme in which marine biologists collect and sort marine trash and plastic gathered from beaches, picking out waste made with a durable plastic called polyethylene found in milk containers and fishing nets. The waste and nets are ground (碾碎) and then mixed with other ingredients to make asphalt. The hot mix is loaded onto trucks and used to pave roads.
In the first stage of the research, three experimental pavement strips were laid: a section with traditional asphalt and a kind of rubber called styrene-butadiene-styrene; another with the ground marine waste and the rubber; a third with the waste and asphalt without the rubber.
Eleven months later, researchers collected road samples and ran some tests. The team used a variety of methods to simulate how microplastics would normally be released into the ecosystem. There wasn’t significant microplastic release compared with the strip of road with no plastic mixed into the asphalt, said Jeremy Axworthy, a marine biologist who worked on the programme.
Bill Buttlar, director of the Mizzou Asphalt Pavement and Innovation Lab at the University of Missouri in Columbia, says he’s impressed with the programme but notes that the challenges with road performance in Hawaii are different from those in other places. “The main challenge of scaling this up is getting the recipe right,” Buttlar says.
32. What does the underlined word “intact” in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Unexpected. B. Unlimited. C. Degraded. D. Unchanged.
33. Why are the three experimental pavement strips mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. To show how the research is carried out.
B. To compare various rubber materials for pavement.
C. To introduce different types of road-building materials.
D. To prove marine plastic waste should replace traditional asphalt.
34. What is Bill Buttlar’s attitude towards the programme?
A. Reserved but neutral. B. Positive but cautious.
C. Confident and supportive. D. Skeptical and dismissive.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Tackle Ocean Pollution Across the Globe. B. Turn Ocean Plastic Waste Into Roads.
C. Test New Kinds of Eco-Friendly Rubber. D. Release Microplastics into the Ecosystem.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A hungry teen turns on his phone. A few taps later, he places an order. Within just a few moments, a meal arrives at his doorstep. With instant access to meals from a wide range of restaurants, food-delivery platforms offer unmatched convenience. 36
To begin with, the convenience of delivery often comes at the cost of connection. 37 For example, diners may place an order with a server. However, food delivery does not require any socialization. Workers simply drop off food, perhaps ring the doorbell, and leave. As a result, without the need for human contact, individuals may gradually isolate (孤立) themselves.
38 Dishes offered by restaurants often prioritize taste and appearance, frequently at the expense of nutrition. Compared to home-cooked meals, delivered food tends to be far less healthy. With food delivery services making these meals more accessible than ever, unhealthy options are now just a tap away. As delivery becomes more routine, so do poor eating habits.
Furthermore, the environmental cost cannot be ignored. In fact, a 2021 report found that 44% of plastic waste discovered in the ocean came from takeout food and drink packaging. 39 The huge number of them used by these services also contributes significantly to carbon emissions and climate change.
Though the rise of food delivery may be feeding our society’s hunger for convenience, it is ultimately starving our communities of connection, health, and sustainability. 40 Choosing home cooking or dining out more often will help us rebuild social bonds and live in a greener, healthier way.
A. It greatly harms various sea creatures.
B. Dining out involves basic human interaction.
C. They bring more convenience to busy citizens.
D. It is high time we reflected on our consumption habits.
E. Health risks constitute another overlooked negative effect.
F. But behind this smooth experience lie many unseen impacts.
G. On top of that, the rise in delivery vehicles worsens the situation.

Admiring flowers is one of life’s delights. 56 (like) the West, where people appreciate flowers at exhibitions, China has a long-standing custom of flower-viewing banquets (宴会).

Mrs. Henderson’s neat rose garden was the pride of the neighborhood, and she took great care to maintain it. Next door, Mr. Patel and his family moved in six months ago, bringing with them a love for gardening that Mrs. Henderson initially appreciated.
One day, Mrs. Henderson noticed Mr. Patel’s young son, Aryan, playing near the fence that separated their properties. She watched as the little kid reached through the fence and picked a few rosebuds (玫瑰花蕾) from her roses. Mrs. Henderson’s heart sank. These roses were special —they had been planted by her late husband.
Without thinking, she opened the window and shouted, “Put that back, young man! Those are my roses!”
Aryan was frightened, dropping the rosebuds and bursting into tears. Mrs. Henderson felt a bit of guilt but remained firm. “Go tell your father to keep his son out of my garden!”
Mr. Patel heard the noise and came over. He turned to Mrs. Henderson. “What’s the matter, Mrs. Henderson?”
“He took my roses!” Mrs. Henderson pointed to the rosebuds. “You need to teach your child some respect.”
Mr. Patel’s expression hardened. “I’ll handle my son, but a child’s curiosity is natural.”
Mrs. Henderson crossed her arms. “Natural or not, it’s my property. If you can’t control your child, maybe you shouldn’t have moved here.”
The words hung in the air, sharp and unforgiving. Mr. Patel’s face turned red with anger. “You're being unreasonable. I’ll make sure Aryan stays away, but I won’t tolerate your cruelty.”
With that, he walked away, Aryan still weeping in his arms. Mrs. Henderson closed the window, feeling a mix of regret and firmness. She knew she had overreacted, but the thought of her roses being damaged was too much to bear.
