Do you know what a mystery is? A mystery is something that is hard to explain or understand. It makes people ask “Why?” or “How?” and want to find out the truth. Mysteries are everywhere in life, and they can be interesting and exciting.
Mysteries can be big or small. For example, have you ever left your pencil on the desk, but it was gone when you came back? You looked around and asked your classmates, but no one knew where it was. That is a small mystery. There are also famous big mysteries around the world, like the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. Many people said they saw a big, long creature in the lake, but no one has found real proof (证据) that it’s real. Another one is Stonehenge in England. Who built those big stones, and why? No one has a clear answer yet.
Why do people love mysteries? Because solving them is fun! When they try to find out where the pencil is, or read a mystery story about a missing cat, they use their brains. They look for clues (线索). That’s like being little detectives (侦探), and it makes them feel vibrant.
Not all mysteries get solved right away. Some take years, and some even stay unsolved until today. But that’s okay! The fun is not just in finding answers, but in asking questions and trying to explore. Next time you meet a small mystery, don’t be scared, write down clues and think. It will make you feel smart and happy, and help you love the world more!

C. Tell it to famous detectives. D. Write down clues and think about it.
8. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Famous Big Mysteries Around the World
B. Small Mysteries in Our Daily Life
C. How to Become a Good Detective
D. What Mysteries Are and Why People Love Them

Creative thinking is an important part of psychology that helps people solve problems in new ways. The central idea of creative thinking is to look at problems in different ways. Psychologists often call this “thinking outside the box”. When we face a difficult situation, creative thinking asks us to break away from common solutions. It encourages us to connect ideas that seem unrelated and find surprising answers.
One famous example comes from a psychologist named Karl Duncker. In the 1930s, he designed an experiment called “The Candle Problem”. He gave people a candle, some matches, and a box of pins (图钉). The task was to fix the candle on the wall so that wax (蜡) would not drip on the floor. Many people tried to pin the candle directly to the wall, but this didn’t work. The creative solution was to empty the box, pin the box to the wall, and then put the candle inside it. This experiment shows that functional fixedness—seeing things only in their usual way—can block our creativity.
Psychologists have found several ways to improve creative thinking. Brainstorming is one popular method in which people share many ideas without judging them immediately. Taking walks in nature and getting enough sleep can also help our brains make new connections. Although creative thinking sounds difficult, it is a skill that anyone can develop with practice.
