第三部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Dear Monitor,
I’m writing to offer some practical suggestions to improve our class book corner.
Recently, I’ve noticed that books are piled messily. Worse still, some borrowed books are not returned in time, making it hard for us to find the books we need. To solve these problems, we can classify books by different subjects and stick clear labels on each shelf. Besides, we’d better set simple borrowing rules and assign several students to take turns managing the book corner every week.
I hope my suggestions will help make the corner better organized and more useful.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Hearing the news, Bethany froze for a moment. Her face paled, and her sketchbook dropped. Then she forced a smile and whispered, “I knew you would leave.” I explained that I had been afraid to tell her earlier, for I treasured the time we spent together. She nodded, tears in her eyes, and held my hand. “Let me draw you a memory,” she said, picking up her sketchbook and opening it. She promised to finish a drawing of our rose garden talks and give it to me on my leaving day. Her warmth touched me deeply.
The day I left, Bethany handed me the drawing she had promised in the art room. It was a lovely drawing of us laughing in the rose garden, with a small bird on my shoulder. I was moved and held it tight. She said, “This is not goodbye; it’s a new start.” I replied that I would always keep it and remember our afternoons. She walked me to the car and added that we would write often. As the car moved, I looked back and saw her waving. I felt that distance could never erase our bond, for true friendship lives in the heart.

第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Did you know that Feeding America is the biggest food rescue organization in the country? Every day, the Feeding America network of food banks and local volunteers works to rescue safe, healthy food and distribute it to neighbors facing hunger, so they have the food needed for a normal life. Through the Food Rescue Challenge, we’re aiming to transform an additional 1 billion pounds of rescued food into meals and turn surplus (剩余) into access. In the United States, 92 billion pounds of surplus food is produced each year. That’s more than enough food for everyone. However, that perfectly safe, high-quality food is wasted and doesn’t actually reach anyone. But the Feeding America network is changing that.
More than 47 million people in America experience food insecurity. But Feeding America is working to change that by rescuing safe, good-to-eat food and making sure it gets to neighbors. That’s the reason why we’ve set an ambitious goal to rescue an additional 1 billion pounds of food annually. We rescue surplus food like home-grown produce, protein and dairy (乳制品) products from grocery stores, food producers and farms. These include foods such as bananas or carrots to fuel young minds at school, and milk and eggs that help everyone stay strong and live well.
Once that food is rescued, it gets redistributed through 200 food banks and 60,000 agency partners nationwide. Last year, we rescued more than 4 billion pounds of food. We have an incredible opportunity to rescue more food and bring safe, high-quality produce, protein and dairy to neighbors facing hunger. Donate now to the Food Rescue Challenge. Help us turn surplus into access so everyone has the opportunity to get by.
1. What is one of the reasons behind the creation of Feeding America?
A. Families refuse charitable food. B. Few farms grow quality produce.
C. Local food banks lack volunteers. D. Much safe food goes to waste.
2. What can be learnt about the food rescue effort?
A. It focuses mainly on dairy products. B. It creates more surplus than it rescues.
C. It improves students’ school meals. D. It still has considerable room to improve.
3. What does the author appeal to readers to do?
A. Build more local food banks. B. Track wasted food in daily life.
C. Offer money for the organization. D. Learn more about food rescue.

“Growing up in the Bay Area, I always heard that the recipe for happiness was to work hard, do well, and make sure people like you,” reflects Samir Wagle, MBA’95. After college he joined Deloitte, a consulting firm, and then worked in the restaurant and retail industries, eventually holding leadership positions at Protein Bar & Kitchen, Boudin Bakery, Chipotle, and McDonald’s. But nearly two decades in, Wagle realized that external success hadn’t brought him personal satisfaction.
“I’d checked all the boxes I thought I was supposed to check,” he says, “but I still wasn’t happy.”
Once, a workshop facilitator asked questions that led to soul-searching. “She said, ‘What if being happy required you to have the conversations you’ve been avoiding, and to stop habits that don’t serve you?’ I realized my recipe — ‘I need more stuff to be happy’ — wasn’t working.”
After leadership coaching, Wagle resigned from his job. His parents were concerned, convinced he was throwing his life away. “But I needed to consciously break the patterns my life had been following.”
He took professional development courses and went on silent retreats (静修), struggling to gain happiness from internal rather than external sources.
Wagle crafted a personal mission: to help people work at the intersection of their abilities and enthusiasm. “When a leader finds that connection, performance is higher and stress is lower.” That led him to found 11:11 Partners, a leadership development and coaching firm. “We give teams a language and framework to communicate and solve problems faster, and help them find managers who fit their culture.”
A key moment came when his son made him realize he hadn’t been truly present as a father. “I wanted every dimension of my life to match who I wanted to be.” Despite the long and at times painful path to self-realization, Wagle says the journey has been worth the effort. “Fast-forward a decade, and where am I today?” he asks. “I have a great relationship with my son. And I’ve created a business that really reflects who I am — and changes people’s lives.”
4. What can we say about Wagle’s early career?
A. It became a complete career failure. B. It marked the peak of his happiness.
C. It offered him cross-role experience. D. It set a perfect model for employees.
5. What caused Wagle’s resignation?
A. His awareness of inner emptiness. B. His pressure from leadership roles.
C. His parents’ strong discouragement. D. His firm’s unsatisfactory performance.
6. Why did Wagle found 11:11 Partners?
A. To gain more external recognition. B. To avoid habits that don’t serve him.
C. To satisfy his facilitator’s expectations. D. To match skills with people’s passions.
7. What lesson does Wagle’s story convey?
A. True happiness lies in self-realization. B. Career success ensures family bonds.
C. Past habits should never be adjusted. D. Independence creates one’s self-identity.
C
Friendships are so important developmentally, so it’s heartbreaking when young people can’t make them. And the reasons are sometimes obvious. Some parents are masterful and keep disturbing their children’s lives. Some young people have been bullied and have had their confidence taken away from them. Some — through no fault of their own — struggle to understand others’ feelings, unable to read the signals or understand the jokes, unable to collaborate or share.
Yet one more point cannot be ignored. Many of those who struggle to make friends pretend to be more than they are, to be bigger, better, cleverer, cooler than they are, to be more confident than they feel. They maintain what Helene Deutsch calls an “as if” personality, or what Winnicott calls a “false self”. It’s as if somewhere along the line they’ve developed a pretend-self to deal with life and haven’t yet had time to integrate it with the other, less anxious, less defended, more relaxed parts of themselves.
This pretend-self may have developed for good reasons. At the time, it may have seemed like the only way to survive a frightening or stressful situation. It may have been a behavior shaped by other people. The problem is that now the “pretend” young person doesn’t seem to fit together. And other young people sense this. It makes them uneasy, unsure how to interact with someone who may not be all that he seems. After all, we need our friends to be reliable and honest; we need to know where we stand with them, and inconsistent people make us uneasy. We don’t know if we can trust them because we don’t really know who they are.
In particular, “pretend” young people struggling to make friends often seem to be struggling with anger: with their own and with other people’s. They act sad and passive when they’re clearly full of anger, or they act angry when they’re obviously sad and frightened. They draw back from the anger of other young people or they try desperately to control it.
8. How does the author view young people’s difficulty in making friends?
A. Workable. B. Understandable. C. Predictable. D. Adaptable.
9. What does paragraph 2 imply about young people’s making friends?
A. Being themselves is essential. B. Improving skills matters most.
C. Showing confidence is vital. D. Being cool guarantees gains.
10. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. One’s broken-up friendship. B. A poorly integrated self.
C. Others’ uneasy interaction. D. Stress from the outside world.
11. What might the text continue discussing concerning young people’s anger?
A. Why it harms their health. B. Whether it improves their friendships.
C. How they handle it appropriately. D. When they sense deep-seated anger.
D
Monarch butterflies are native to North America, and can be found in more than 90 countries. They only exist where there is milkweed, which is the only thing that their young feed on. The migratory monarch butterfly was listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List in 2022.
In an effort to eventually track how these butterflies use their overwintering habitat and flowers close by, scientists tagged (标记) monarchs in three locations across sunlit San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties in November 2025. This is part of a study testing technology that can monitor monarch movement and migration. Attached to each tag is a thin straight part that sticks out from its small box, and staff used eyelash glue to stick the tags to the back of the butterflies. The tagging system employs solar-powered radio tag technology, which continuously sends location-related data through radio waves.
“Weather data is also being collected at the overwintering sites and will be used together with the movement data to further understand monarch habitat needs,” the research team wrote in a statement. “The goal of this project is to increase our understanding of monarch butterfly use of overwintering groves (树林) in coastal California. The results will be used to better inform restoration and management of monarch overwintering groves.” The team made good use of the butterflies’ need for sunlight to warm their bodies to fly. The team caught them on cool early mornings below 55 °F and kept them in a cooler. For each butterfly, they recorded its sex, weight and size to ensure it was fit for carrying a tag.
The project also provides the opportunity for the participation of citizen scientists. “The public is welcome to participate in data collection for this effort using the Project Monarch App which can be downloaded on a smartphone,” the statement continued. “The App has a map of all tagged monarchs and a feature allowing data entry.”
12. Which best describes monarch butterflies’ survival status?
A. Plant diversity helps their reproduction. B. Wide distribution ensures their safety.
C. Population decline calls for migration. D. Single diet weakens their adaptability.
13. Why do researchers choose solar-powered tags?
A. They suit those small boxes better. B. They offer long-term data collection.
C. They are lighter than battery-powered ones. D. They get activated easily by researchers.
14. What is the hidden value of the multi-data research?
A. It guides practical habitat protection. B. It improves local weather monitoring.
C. It highlights universal citizen science. D. It catches butterflies at low temperatures.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Public Involvement in Butterfly Research B. The Living Habits of Monarch Butterflies
C. New Tracking Tech for Monarch Conservation D. Monarchs’ Migration and Overwintering Sites

In Britain, when it comes to smoking, public health concerns have generally won the argument against personal freedom supporters. Tobacco is heavily taxed. 20 cigarettes will cost you nearly £10 in the UK now. Advertising is banned. There are big health warnings on cigarette packets. Shops are not allowed to display tobacco products. 16
What excites me is that this year, we’re going to see the next step in the campaign in Britain to stop people smoking. New rules will take effect across the whole nation. Cigarettes will be sold in plain packaging. 17 The name of the brand will appear in a neutral typeface (字体). No colors, no logos (标识), nothing to distinguish one brand from another apart from the name.
18 I was reading an article about Australia where life has been made even more difficult for smokers. They’ve had plain packaging now for five years. All cigarettes come in dark brown packets — it’s supposed to be the ugliest color — with no logos, only graphic health warnings. 19 No smoking indoors, and only in specially designated areas outdoors. There are also advertising campaigns and other measures to help people give up. And perhaps most effective of all, the Australian government is systematically raising the price of cigarettes through taxation. A packet of cigarettes in Australia costs AUD $40.00.
So what effect have these measures had on smoking in Australia? 20 And now they are at about 13%, compared to a global average of about 20%. There’s also been a decrease of almost 23% in the rate of hospital admissions caused by smoking.
A. The packets will mainly show health warnings.
B. The UK is not the first country to introduce this.
C. Smoking costs society a lot in terms of health care.
D. Smoking rates for adults have almost halved since 1980.
E. There are massive restrictions on where you’re allowed to smoke.
F. There are other tobacco-control measures I won’t list one by one here.
G. I don’t think that anybody can argue against the harmful effects of smoking.

阅读下面短文。在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
“China Cool” appeals to international tourists
“I’ve come to nature’s air conditioner.” That was the reaction of a Spanish tourist 36 (visit) southwest China’s Yunnan Province this summer. Before arriving, he had suffered from temperatures of around 40℃. But when his flight landed in Kunming and he stepped out into the gentle wind, the relief was immediate. His trip for cooler weather proved well worth 37 .
This summer, as heat waves swept across many parts of the world, a growing number of foreign tourists headed to China 38 (escape) the heat. In places such as Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province, where mountain scenery naturally created a cooling effect, cool weather became part of the travel experience.
But 39 “cool” in “China Cool” goes beyond weather. It lies in the 40 (various) of experiences available to visitors. Listening to ancient temple bells, learning traditional crafts or ordering late-night food through smartphones, visitors can feel a nation in 41 tradition, convenience and modern life coexist.
That sense of “cool” is 42 (striking) shown in technology. Trying real-time-translation AI glasses and interacting with robots, foreign visitors catch sight of China’s high-tech future, which adds an 43 (attract) dimension to its image beyond well-known landmarks.
As more visitors experience the country firsthand, the way China 44 (talk) about overseas is changing. Phrases such as “China Travel”, “Becoming Chinese” and “Chinamaxxing” 45 (draw) wide notice on overseas social media in the last few years, while “China Cool” offers a fresh way to show such broad appeal, reflecting rising foreign interest in China’s culture, technology and daily life.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The first snow fell when my father announced another move from Vancouver to Calgary. I was tired of being the new kid, always the outsider. I thought this move would be no different. At Westbrook High, I ate lunch alone, and always hid behind a book. I felt invisible and longed for a new friend.
Then, one day, in the classroom, I noticed a girl with purple hair, sketching (速写) intensely. Her name was Bethany, known as the “strange artist”. Her drawings seemed full of emotion. I wondered if she also felt lonely inside.
A week later, our English teacher paired us for a project on Canadian poetry. Bethany was unwilling, saying she worked better alone, but I convinced her to meet at the library. During our first session, she accidentally knocked over a pile of books, and a small journal fell out. I picked it up and saw a page of impressive drawings: a lonely child reaching for a bird flying away. I felt a deep connection. She grabbed it back, embarrassed, but that moment broke the ice between us. We started talking about our shared loneliness. It felt like finding a mirror.
We began meeting at the school rose garden, sharing our stories. Her mother was a travelling nurse, leaving her often alone; I told her about my constant moves and my fear of leaving. We spent many afternoons there, exchanging drawings and poems. She taught me to see beauty in small things, and I helped her with poetry analysis. We grew close, and our project earned top marks.
However, a month later, my father told me we were moving to Toronto soon. The news hit me like a wave. I was afraid to tell Bethany, worried about her disappointment. The next day, in the art room, I tried several times to tell Bethany the news, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. As I was about to leave the art room, I finally gathered my courage and broke the news to her.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Hearing the news, Bethany froze for a moment.
The day I left, Bethany handed me the drawing she had promised in the art room.
