Ieoh Ming Pei is a Chinese-American architect (建筑师) known as the master of modern architecture. He won many important awards in architecture. Pei designed some of the world’s most special buildings and famous landmarks. He created a balance between both eastern and western ideas in his designs. He was born in Guangzhou, China in 1917. During the Ming Dynasty, his family moved to Suzhou — then the centre of economy and culture in China. They became rich through the sale of medical herbs. Pei spent his holidays there visiting many gardens and family shrines (宗祠). He loved the interesting rocks, stone bridges and waterfalls.
Pei moved with his family to Shanghai at the age of ten. The city’s international architectural styles had a lasting influence on him, from the Bund (外滩) to the Park Hotel. His interest in architecture was developing.
Pei enjoyed watching American films and it was through this that he decided to move to the United States to study architecture. In 1942, he got married. Under his wife’s influence, he changed from another university to Harvard to study architecture. There he was given the chance to study modern architecture. Later, he set up his own company called I. M. Pei & Associates.
Pei spent a long lifetime creating amazing buildings. He said, “What I valued most in architecture was that the buildings could stand the test of time.” He didn’t just want to solve problems but also to produce “an architecture of ideas”.

①Modern technology has made it easier for common people to rent things or services to others. With the click of an app, we can find almost anything. It could be a new dress to wear on the weekend, or someone to clean your house. This is the sharing economy, and it is now a money-making $20 billion-a-year business. But some people are now asking: Just how good is it for society in general?
②Not long ago, when people went on vacation, they usually stayed in a hotel. Today they have the choice of staying in someone’s private house. They pay less, but what influence does this have on the hotel industry and the wider economy? Hotels receive fewer guests, but they still have to pay salaries (工资) to their workers and money to the government. Many people who rent out private rooms do not. So the government gets less money and some hotels might even close down.
③Then there are car-sharing sites. Instead of using your own car for a long trip, you can get a ride with someone for a small fee. Some people argue this is better for the environment, since fewer cars on the roads means less pollution. But how many people choose to use these sites rather than taking the bus or the train? Public transportation is, after all, much kinder to the environment than cars.
④Many sites offer cooking services. Instead of going to a restaurant, you can use an app to order dishes from people in your neighborhood.
⑤There is even a site where you can buy leftover food that people haven’t eaten! This is sure to save your time and money. But is it risky? Can you trust the people cooking your food? Restaurants have to follow strict regulations to make sure their food is safe to eat.
⑥There is no doubt that the sharing economy is growing. Some economists think it will be worth $335 billion by 2025. As new technology makes sharing food, places to stay, and transportation easier all the time, the question of “Is it fair?” will remain.
12. Which example about sharing economy is introduced in Paragraph 2?
A. Getting a ride with someone for a small fee.
B. Buying a new dress on Taobao to pay less.
C. Staying in someone’s private house for less pay.
D. Ordering dishes from neighbors to save money.
13. What does the underlined word “regulations” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Notes. B. Plans. C. Suggestions. D. Rules.
14. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 6 refer to?
A. A private house. B. The sharing economy.
C. A food-selling site. D. Public transportation.
15. How is the text organized?
A. B. C. D.

A. B. C. D.

“leave the countryside to... for work in cities”表示离开农村去城市找工作,固定搭配search for work意为“找工作”,符合文意。
Between用于两者之间,Through和During语意不符。
根据“show great...in the changes”可知,此处是固定搭配show interest in,表示“对……
take up“占据”,put up “张贴”,look up“查阅”,均不符合语境。
“cannot...stay the same”表示“不能总是一成不变”,用“always”符合逻辑。
后文提到“under that big tree”,所以此处说的是树,应选tree。
