However, the show is just a window. Outside the window lies the real Sanjiangyuan. It is not only the source region of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers but also the home of the brave. Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (高原), Hoh Xil is a mysterious part of the Sanjiangyuan area. With an altitude (海拔) of over 4,600 meters, Hoh Xil has thin air, and the wind cuts like a knife. Many years ago, the beautiful land faced a dark time. Thousands of Tibetan antelopes (藏羚羊) were hunted for their wool. The land, once peaceful, was covered with blood. The antelopes almost disappeared from the Earth. To stop the killing, a group of heroes stood up. One of them was Jetsun Sonam Dargye. In the 1990s, with old tools and little food, he and his team fought against cruel hunters in the freezing wild. In a final battle, he was shot but refused to fall. He froze into a statue (雕像) in the snow, holding his gun to protect the land. ▲ In 1997, Hoh Xil was upgraded (升级) to a national nature reserve. Thanks to these efforts, the Tibetan antelopes are running free again. In the main area of Hoh Xil, their number has grown from less than 20,000 to over 70,000. The guardians used their lives to teach us a lesson: Protecting nature, indeed, is protecting ourselves. 11. What really caused the “dark time”? A. The cold weather on the high plateau. B. The cruel hunting for wool. C. The dangerous wolves in the wild. D. Little food in the winter. 12. Which of the following can we put back into the blank “ ▲ ”? A. His death woke up the whole nation. B. The hunters were praised for their courage. C. His team gave up the fight at once. D. The TV drama became a big success. 13. How is the passage organized? A. It compares two places, then lists some facts, and finally gives some advice. B. It tells a story, then explains its causes, and finally draws some conclusions. C. It introduces a TV drama, then presents real events, and finally shares a lesson. D. It describes a problem, then offers solutions, and finally predicts the future. 14. How does the writer’s feeling change? A. Angry →Calm→Happy. B. Calm→ Sad→Proud. C. Worried→Sad→Hopeful. D. Happy →Sad →Angry. 15. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To introduce a popular TV drama to people around the whole world. B. To explain why Tibetan antelopes were hunted for wool in Hoh Xil. C. To describe the beautiful natural scenery of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. D. To tell how guardians saved antelopes and call for nature protection. B Have you ever imagined controlling a machine just by thinking? This is the idea behind brain-computer interface (接口)(BCI) technology. A Shanghai hospital recently performed the world’s first surgery to put a BCI system in a patient. The system, NEO, designed for people who cannot move their hands, reads their brain signals to help them. The first patient had a serious spinal cord injury (脊髓损伤) from a car accident. His hands were so weak that he could not finish simple tasks like eating or picking things up. Usual treatments did not help much. After a careful check, doctors chose him to try the new technology. The NEO system reads brain signals. When the patient wants to move his hand, it catches the signal and sends it to a device outside the body. In this way, the brain and the machine work together to help the patient to move. Tests showed the technology works well after the surgery. Before this, BCI was only used in labs, not in real hospitals, and doctors could test it on only a small number of people. Now it has become a real treatment. This is a huge step for millions of people worldwide who have lost the use of their hands or arms. For them, moving even a little can make a big difference. Scientists say BCI will keep moving forward. In the future, it may help with other health problems, too. Although there is still much work to do, the first step has been taken. This case shows that when science and medicine work together, they can bring hope to people who need it most. 16. What is NEO mainly designed for? A. Testing brain signals in a few small labs. B. Teaching patients to do simple daily exercise. C. Helping patients who cannot move their hands. D. Helping doctors perform difficult operations. 17. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. the hand B. the patient C. the signal D. the system 18. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The working principle and future development of BCI. B. The early limitations and recent improvement of BCI. C. The patient’s condition and the doctors’ careful efforts. D. The work in the labs and the scientists’ different opinions. 19. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Scientists have lost interest in BCI research. B. The first BCI surgery was a complete failure. C. More work is needed before BCI is widely used. D. BCI will solve every health problem soon. 20. What is the best title for the passage? A. How to Recover from a Serious Spinal Cord Injury B. Why Scientists and Doctors Should Work Together C. The Development of American Medical Technology D. A New Way to Control Machines with Thoughts C In July 2026, Wang Hong became the first Chinese citizen—and only the third woman in history—to win the Fields Medal, often called the “Nobel Prize of mathematics.” Wang grew up in Guangxi. At four, boiling water badly hurt her arm. Because her skin would be easily hurt by strong light, she spent much time indoors. Yet, this did not close her world. It taught her to be alone, read by herself and shut out noise. In primary school, she skipped two grades. Her greatest achievement came in 2025. She and Joshua Zahl proved the three-dimensional (三维) Kakeya conjecture (猜想), a problem that had puzzled mathematicians for over a hundred years. It asks: how small a space can a needle sweep through if it must turn in every direction? Their 127-page paper solved it, and a top mathematician called the result “extraordinary.” But Wang’s road was far from straight. At Peking University, she first studied a different subject before she turned to maths. Later, in France, she felt so doubtful that she took a detour—she left her main path of maths research and spent half a year studying architecture (建筑). She even worked at an architecture company. Most people thought she would change careers. But the detour made her see something clearly. Architecture, she found, required pleasing others. Maths, however, was a world she could build freely. “I can build anything without asking anyone for permission,” she said. So she returned. And she never looked back. In the end, her long journey brought her the greatest honour in mathematics. Her advice to young students is simple: speed does not matter. What matters is whether you keep coming back to the question that matters to you. 21. What is special about Wang Hong’s Fields Medal? A. She is the youngest winner in its history. B. She is the first Asian woman to receive it. C. She is the first Chinese citizen to win it. D. She won it for work done in her country. 22. What does the underlined word “detour” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. A short cut that leads to success. B. A fixed plan made by other people. C. A prize given for very difficult work. D. A path away from the main road. 23. Why does the writer mention Wang Hong’s time spent in studying architecture? A. To explain why she briefly left maths and returned. B. To show that architecture was harder than maths. C. To prove that she was not a talented student. D. To describe her daily life in France in detail. 24. What is the correct order of the following events? a. Wang spent half a year studying architecture in France. b. Wang won the Fields Medal. c. Wang proved the Kakeya conjecture with Joshua Zahl. d. Wang transferred into maths at Peking University. A. d-c-a-b B. a-d-c-b C. d-a-c-b D. c-d-a-b 25. In which part of a newspaper may we read the passage? A. Nature. B. Maths. C. Science. D. People. 第二节 短文填空(共5小题;每小题2分) 阅读下面的短文,并从下列的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。 The world is full of screens. They are on TVs, computers and smartphones.
